Keisha Wright is a professional life coach from the Sunshine State of Florida, who like many others, spent her early years doing what she was “supposed” to do. She went to school, became a teacher, wife, and mother, and her life was seemingly normal, until it wasn’t. She went from working in the school system to raising a family and then, all of a sudden, she was faced with tragedy she didn’t know how to deal with. She then found herself in counseling and was told it was going to take 3-5 years to fully recover from her trauma. That’s when something within her changed. She thought to herself, “I can’t hang on that long, there must be a better way”. And in that moment of desperation, she remembers telling God “if you can get me out of this, I will dedicate the rest of my life to teaching others how to do the same.” That’s when she was blessed with meeting a woman who offered to help her overcome her trauma. Throughout her healing journey this friend/coach taught Keisha the way forward and as she began doing the work, she ended up developing the foundations of the Emotional Recovery Clinic. Once healed, Keisha spent the next 12 years volunteering her time to help others recover, as well as establish her own practice, Women’s Recovery Clinic. She spent her time traveling across the country teaching both women and men how to heal their trauma. Now, Keisha continues to uphold that same vision and mission as she jumps into life with others when their going gets tough and everything seems to be falling apart. Like her friend/coach did for her, she walks this journey of recovery with people until it becomes their new normal. Her purpose is clear: to teach you the way out, as none of us are born knowing how to put our lives back together. No runner wants to get injured. But the worst part of an injury is often the mental side of it, not the physical! Sure, you can go to the PT or self-treat your injury. That will help you physically heal. But what about your loss of identity when you can't run? What about the loss of a future goal? How will you respond to feeling like you lost your community? Perhaps more importantly, your mental outlook will affect how you treat your injury and the level of success of that treatment. We have to get this right! Joining me is mental skills coach and psychologist Carrie Jackson. She is the author of On Top of Your Game: Mental Skills to Maximize Your Athletic Performance and coauthor of Rebound: Train Your Mind to Bounce Back Stronger from Sports Injuries. She's worked with elite and pro runners around the world and her work has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Runner's World, and most other major media. You can hear even more of Carrie on her podcast, The Injured Athlete's Club. We discuss: How to practice acceptance Fear management strategies How to adjust goals Why "recovery is training" As a formerly injury-prone runner, this conversation really impacted me. I remember how each injury made me feel. And there's almost no worse feeling for a runner! It's one of the major reasons why my coaching practice and training programs all revolve around consistency and staying healthy so you can focus on your running. If you want to learn even more about how to prevent injuries, go to strengthrunning.com/prevention. Thank you LMNT! A big thanks to LMNT for their support of this episode! The Lies We've Been Told About Grief Episode Description: In this eye-opening episode of Healing Starts with the Heart, grief specialist Sharon Brubaker confronts the damaging lies we've all been told about grief. From childhood, we are handed false beliefs like: • “Don't feel bad” • “Be strong” • “Time will heal” • “You should get over it” Sharon dives deep into how these messages have distorted our understanding of grief and often cause us to suppress or deny the pain we're carrying. She shares her own personal experience with the grief that no one warned her about, and how unlearning these toxic myths led her on a path of true healing. If you've ever felt like your grief didn't fit into the tidy boxes society sets for it, this episode is a must-listen. Sharon invites you to release the shame and guilt tied to these lies, offering a new, empowering perspective on what it truly means to grieve and heal. Key Points Discussed: The Lies We've Been Taught About Grief Why pretending to be “strong” and “moving on” can actually hold us back from healing. How Grief Should Really Be Handled Understanding grief as a personal journey that requires space, time, and the willingness to feel deeply. The Cost of Suppressing Grief How ignoring your grief can lead to long-term emotional pain, and why it's crucial to face it head-on. Grief as a Journey, Not a Destination Grief doesn't follow a timeline, and healing doesn't mean you “get over it.” It means you learn to live with it. Journal Questions for Reflection: What lies about grief have you been told or have believed? How do you feel when others tell you to “move on” or “be strong”? What would it look like if you gave yourself permission to grieve openly and without judgment? Join the Journey: Grief doesn't follow a simple, linear path, but Sharon is here to help you navigate it with compassion. Visit The Grief School for more resources, and join our Study Hall sessions every Tuesday and Thursday. You can also connect with Sharon during her live sessions on TikTok and Facebook.

Today we interview Lori Dear, a registered nurse and transplant coordinator in the adult Blood & Marrow Transplant Program at Corewell Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Lori shares her deep insights into the CAR T-cell therapy process, a groundbreaking treatment for certain cancers, focusing on the patient experience and the critical role of caregivers.Lori explains that CAR T-cell therapy is highly personalized, with no "cookie-cutter" approach. A diverse interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and various specialists, collaborates to guide patients through the process, from eligibility testing to treatment and recovery. She stresses the importance of preparing for the CAR T process by researching the therapy and arranging for a trustworthy caregiver, who will play a crucial role in managing care for up to 12 weeks after infusion. Lori points out that caregivers often include spouses or close friends, but emphasizes that anyone chosen should be reliable and available 24/7 for an extended period.Eligibility for CAR T therapy involves various health screenings, including heart, lung, and kidney function tests, to ensure a patient's fitness for the treatment. The goal is to minimize risks and optimize outcomes. Lori also discusses the importance of being near the treatment center, typically within one to two hours, particularly during the critical post-infusion period.Side effects like Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS) and ICANS (neurotoxicity) are potential complications, and caregivers play a vital role in recognizing early symptoms, such as fever or cognitive changes. Lori advises patients and caregivers to stay vigilant and report even subtle signs of illness to the medical team. She reassures that the healthcare team is ready to act quickly in the event of complications, underscoring the importance of a collaborative relationship between caregivers, patients, and staff.Lori also addresses secondary concerns, such as financial toxicity, explaining that financial coordinators work with patients to navigate insurance coverage and secure additional assistance if needed. She mentions the psychological strain patients may experience, emphasizing the normality of feeling overwhelmed and the value of a strong support network. As the episode wraps up, Lori shares a heartwarming story of a patient who, after multiple treatments, including a transplant, faced discouraging PET scan results. With the center and Lori's support and encouragement to explore CAR T therapy, the patient proceeded with the treatment and, despite some complications, has celebrated three more Christmases with his grandchildren. This story encapsulates the hope and life-changing potential of CAR T- cell therapy. This season is made possible thanks to our sponsors:Kite, a Gilead company: http://www.kitepharma.com/and Bristol Myers Squibb's CAR T support services program:https://www.celltherapy360.com/ Follow the nbmtLINK on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/nbmtlink/Or visit our website at https://www.nbmtlink.org/

If you have been dealing with a narcissist, you might be feeling extraordinarily confused. You might be starting to doubt yourself, what you heard, perceived, felt, or experienced. It's incredibly challenging to trust your sixth sense of intuition when your reality is being tossed and spun by emotionally arrested and immature grown adults who lack self-awareness, self-accountability, self-inquiry, and empathy neurons that allow for one to develop the conscience that prevents them from wanting to abuse someone mentally, emotionally or otherwise. Healthy people check in with themselves. Their brains have healthy empathy mirror neurons that prevent them from delighting in scrambling the emotions and minds of others. When it comes to those with high narcissistic traits, you are dealing with someone who is far less compassionate and for more able to cross lines others with healthier mindsets won't. In this episode, Lisa A. Romano will share insightful awarenesses that will help you sift through the cognitive dissonance, so that you can regain your sense of trust again regarding what you feel, perceive, believe, need and desire. Introduction Obesity Medicine expert, Ali Novitsky, MD, is super pumped about today's episode and the next three episodes, which will dive into the fascinating world of nutrition. Recently, she launched the Muscles & Mindset program, a comprehensive year-long strength training program that caters to participants at three different levels. It's an incredible initiative designed to improve overall health and wellness. But optimizing body composition and muscle mass also involves a significant nutritional component, which is why Dr. Ali is dedicating these episodes to exploring various aspects of nutrition. Intuitive Eating In this episode, Dr. Ali delves into the concept of intuitive eating, a method where you listen to your body's natural signals to determine what and when to eat. She shares a heartfelt personal story about her mom's intuitive eating habits, providing a real-world example of how this approach can shape a healthy relationship with food. Dr. Ali discusses the challenges of intuitive eating, particularly when consuming processed foods that can interfere with the body's natural hunger and fullness cues. The episode also explores the Whole30 program, a popular dietary regimen that aims to reset your body's cravings toward healthier options by eliminating certain food groups for 30 days. Dr. Ali explains how Whole30 can be a valuable tool for those looking to recalibrate their eating habits. Healing Your Relationship with Food Dr. Ali emphasizes that intuitive eating is not about achieving specific physical goals like fat loss or muscle gain. Instead, it's about reframing your mental and emotional relationship with food. This compassionate approach encourages individuals to trust their bodies and make food choices based on internal cues rather than external pressures or diet trends. However, Dr. Ali notes that by focusing on eating three servings of protein a day and minimizing processed foods and added sugars, you can likely see secondary physical benefits. This balanced approach helps improve overall well-being without the stress of strict dieting rules. G.O.A.L.S. Principles Dr. Ali introduces her intuitive eating principles using the mnemonic "G.O.A.L.S.": G: Get hungry first. Listen to your body and wait until you feel genuine hunger before eating. O: Observe for fullness. Pay attention to your body's signals and stop eating when you feel satisfied, not overstuffed. A: Allow your feelings. Acknowledge and process your emotions rather than turning to food for comfort. L: Love movement. Incorporate physical activity that you enjoy into your routine, making movement a positive experience. S: Stop perfectionism. Let go of the need for perfect eating habits and embrace a more flexible, forgiving approach to nutrition. These principles, combined with adequate protein intake and limiting added sugars, can help you become an intuitive eater who makes good nutritional decisions. Dr. Ali encourages listeners to adopt these guidelines to foster a healthier relationship with food and their bodies. Conclusion Intuitive eating is a compassionate approach to nutrition that can be particularly useful during vacations, stressful times, or even as a lifestyle. It's a valuable tool to have in your nutritional toolkit, offering a balanced and sustainable way to approach eating without the rigidity of traditional diets. Dr. Ali is excited to continue this nutrition journey with the audience in the upcoming episodes. She teases more insightful discussions and helpful tips on navigating the complex world of nutrition. If you haven't joined the Muscles & Mindset program yet, it's a great place to start. This program not only focuses on strength training but also integrates key nutritional strategies to optimize overall health. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements about her upcoming nutrition program! Emotional manipulators rely on DARVO, which is an acronym for deny, attack, and reverse victim-offender roles. If you have ever been involved with a narcissist, overtime you noticed a pervasive pattern of denying they did anything wrong. Even when you are convinced you are right, somehow, a narcissist is able to play the victim. IF this happens often enough, a target can develop CPTSD, anxiety, crippling self doubt, and depression. Victims of narcissistic abuse can also isolate as they no longer trust their version of reality. Lisa A. Romano is a renowned Life Coach and expert in emotional regulation, codependency recovery, and narcissistic abuse. She develops systematic, re-performable trainings that assist people with regaining their sense of self, identity, and confidence in their decision-making faculties and perception of reality. In this episode, you will learn about DARVO and how to avoid being pulled into this crazymaking behavior. Lisa is the founder of Conscious Healing Academy, a three-part coaching system centered on raising students' consciousness beyond the level of the subconscious and the neurological consequences of emotional trauma, for the opportunity to access the authentic self. Women who love men they can't have are those who attract and are attracted to emotionally unavailable men. Emotionally unavailable men, spouses and boyfriends often mirror the relationships women have had with the male role models in their lives. In some cases, women who have suffered emotional neglect of a mother can also find themselves settling for emotionally unavailable partners. Women who lack a healthy sense of self, and who have been conditioned to feel as if they need to prove themselves worthy of love, generally do not attract high quality men. We are women who settle for breadcrumbs, beg for approval, are often codependent and emotionally dependent. The good news is, Lisa A. Romano has found a way to breakthrough the cognitive distortions, subconscious programs, and habitual thought processes that keep women seeking the love of men they can't have. Ready to take a 90 day deep dive into healing from the patterns and programs that keep so many women seeking the love of those they can't have?
