DTRH Ep.13: The Origin of Sales Enablement - Feat. Roderick Jefferson Ever heard of the term "Sales Enablement"? Well, you're about to learn not only what it is but what it means and uncover the origin of the term from the man who coined it himself—Roderick Jefferson. The man, the myth, the legend. Oh yeah, baby, you gonna learn today! Episode Summary In today’s episode of Down The Rabbit Hole, your host, Rob Turley, Co-Founder & Co-CEO at White Rabbit Intel, delves deep into the mind of Roderick Jefferson to unearth the truth about sales enablement and sales team strategies by aligning with The Buyer's Journey. The Buyer's Journey is the most critical piece to a successful sales strategy while enabling sales because people buy from people! That's the truth. There is nothing fictitious about a business's success that drives selling via customer engagement and relationship building. The key is to think on your feet to put oneself into the buyer's shoes as best as possible, and to do that, you need to understand not only them but their industry as well. How would you want to buy the product or service you're selling? Do you want to be treated as a "cha-ching" or a number? Nope! You want to be treated like a valuable asset. Like you matter. Like you are the most important person in the room. It's all about getting helped and being shown, not told and sold. Simple as that. If your sales strategy does not drive this simple concept, then you're not going to get very far, and you're not going to last. That's when the relationship starts, not when it's concluded. Your job as a sales professional is not done until the relationship has concluded to its entirety, and even still, staying in touch and on good terms is vital to success. “If a sales professional believes that the sale is over after the close, they're dead wrong. It has only just begun.” – Rob Turley About Roderick Roderick Jefferson is the CEO of Roderick Jefferson & Associates. He has 20+ years of sales leadership and is an acknowledged thought leader and keynote speaker in the sales enablement space. Scaling BI and Beyond: Native Visual Analytics & Apps for Big Data The future of scalable enterprise software and applications is tightly bound with Hadoop and other massively parallel, distributed systems. The big data movement has required scale-out data storage and platforms, but analytics systems have not kept up, with the exception of data-engineering-led organizations who can wrangle and build data applications and analytics with data science, math, and code. Therefore, in order for the modern enterprise to keep up with the scale of big data, visual analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems must re-architect to a similar distributed, scale-out approach, which is core to the next phase of the big data movement and digital transformation. Arcadia Data was founded to bridge the gap between business analysts and big data systems, founded by innovators from Teradata (Aster Data), 3Par, and IBM.
Phill Gilbert from the 3PAR product management team joins me to discuss 3PAR Adaptive Data Reduction, announced with the 3PAR OS 3.3.1. Adaptive Data Reduction includes Zero Detect, Deduplication, new Compression, and new Data Packing.

Biggest Cloud Hits Manchester - eCloud brings giant-rivalling cloud infrastructure to the UK. Manchester takes a giant leap forward in the technology race today as UKFast announces the launch of the UK's largest private cloud. The £12m eCloud infrastructure is predicted to be the UK's first elastic cloud to rival US giants Amazon and Rackspace. With petabytes of high availability storage from best-of-breed vendors such as 3Par and SGI, the eCloud is built upon the latest Cisco UCS Blade technology. Lawrence Jones, UKFast CEO, said: "We have been leading the field with dedicated servers for more than a decade -- we grew from nowhere by automating everything and making what once took 10 days, possible in two hours. "Now the market has changed and we didn't want to just create a run-of-the-mill, self-serve product like other cloud offerings. Building cloud environments is nothing new to UKFast, we've been managing data centres and been responsible for hundreds of thousands of websites since 1999. "With eCloud we wanted to create something really special. By combining the very best hardware with the highest level o customer service on an extraordinarily fast network, spread across multiple sites, it finally gives British businesses what they need and has brought a level of technology to Manchester that has never been seen before." With a pay-per-minute or contract model, eCloud brings elastic cloud to the North West and makes an enterprise-level cloud solution available to every level of business without any capital investment. Jones continued: "My love for Manchester is no secret but there's more to it than that. Manchester succeeded with the first mills, factories and canals because it is in the heart of the UK. Its central location is one of the most important factors in choosing Manchester to invest in and build our data centres. "It was the home of the industrial revolution, now we are helping it become the home of the industrious revolution." UKFast's eCloud launch comes as the firm continues its mission to boost connectivity in the North West. The firm has begun development on its fifth data centre in Manchester, acquiring No1 Archway at the start of the year to house the facility and become the new UKFast HQ.

More than four million Californians will be traveling this Labor Day weekend, an increase of 11 percent from a year ago. Also, a new report sheds more light on why Hewlett-Packard wants to pay more than $2 billion for data storage maker 3PAR.
Hewlett-Packard has won a three week bidding war for data storage provider 3Par. HP's final bid of $33 a share knocked Dell out of the running. Also, hundreds of transit and community advocates rallied at the Oakland Career Center today to call for increased funding for buses and other forms of mass transit.
It has been a battle of the balance sheets as rivals Dell and Hewlett-Packard continue to wrangle over who will win the right to acquire 3PAR a little known data storage company. While the 3PAR bidding war which HP is expected to win is part of Dell's ongoing ambition to get a bigger foothold in high-margin enterprise technology services the $53 billion company has also been chasing consumers with lackluster products. As one expert asks: ”Dell sees the need for diversification but does it see the need for transformation?” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
