In this episode of Coach to Scale, we sit down with Tony Burnside, SVP of APJ at Netskope, to dismantle the outdated playbook on sales leadership. Tony challenges the myth that effective managers need to lead through pressure, fear, or control. Instead, he shares his approach to building high-performing, culturally aligned teams, starting with hiring good humans, creating space for accountability, and making coaching a non-negotiable part of the manager's role. With over 200 reps across 15 countries under his leadership, Tony's insights are battle-tested and globally relevant. We dig into what it takes to scale culture across borders, what most leaders miss in their 1:1s, and why every resignation is, as Tony puts it, “a performance review for leadership.” Whether you're a CRO trying to stabilize performance or a frontline leader drowning in deals and check-the-box coaching, this episode delivers practical frameworks and hard-earned lessons for leveling up your org without burning out your team.Key Takeaways:1. Culture drives performance, not charisma or controlBurnside argues that strong sales cultures don't emerge from aggressive personalities but from clarity, consistency, and mutual respect across the organization.2. Good human first" is a hiring filter, not a luxuryHe prioritizes character over credentials, explaining that people who want to win as a team outperform lone wolves in the long run.3. Every resignation is a leadership review.Attrition isn't just HR's concern; Tony reframes it as direct feedback on your leadership brand and your managers' effectiveness.4. Yes, you can be friends with your reps if you're still willing to hold them accountableBurnside pushes back on the false tradeoff between camaraderie and performance, noting that trust and accountability aren't mutually exclusive.5. Global coaching cultures require local empathy.Leading in APJ taught him that you can't copy-paste U.S. management styles into Japan or India; success comes from adjusting expectations and coaching cadence to cultural norms.6. Managers need a litmus test for connection and respectHe shares a personal test: if you wouldn't grab a drink with a rep while traveling, they may not be the right cultural fit for your team.7. Most managers don't know how to coach because they were never taughtTony calls out the common pattern of promoting star reps without equipping them to lead, which leads to tactical, deal-centric 1:1s instead of skill development.8. He invests personally in his own growth and expects others to do the sameFrom Dale Carnegie to Sandler, Tony's career changed after he paid out of pocket for training; he sees self-investment as a signal of leadership potential.10. Coaching must be operationalized, not left to chance or personalityInformal, unstructured coaching creates inconsistency and lost opportunities; managers need frameworks and tools to coach effectively at scale.Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Yb1wPzUxyrfR0Dx35ym1A Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-build-a-coaching-culture/id1699901434 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NvYWNoMnNjYWxlLWhvdy1tb2Rlcm4tbGVhZGVycy1idWlsZC1hLWNvYWNoaW5nLWN1bHR1cmU Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/fd188af6-7c17-4b2e-a0b2-196ecd6fdf77 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-5419703 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Coach2Scale CoachEm™ is the first Coaching Execution Platform that integrates deep learning technology to proactively analyze patterns, highlight the "why" behind the data with root causes, and identify the actions that will ultimately improve business results going forward. The future of autonomous driving and robotics. We cover simulating physical environments, helping car makers leapfrog Tesla, real world AI models, the economics of self driving cars, autonomous mines, and the future of autonomy. Vlad Voroninski is CEO and co-founder of Helm.ai. An early pioneer in training AI for autonomous cars, robotics, and aviation, Vlad has been instrumental in shifting the industry toward advanced simulation and synthetic data—a radical alternative to the traditional reliance on large-scale, manually labeled training sets. Helm.ai has raised over $100M from top investors, including Freeman Group and Goodyear Ventures, and its AI software powers major automakers like Honda and Volkswagen, helping them build next-generation self-driving systems. Vlad Voroninski, Helm’s co-founder and CEO is a UC Berkeley PhD, former MIT instructor, and author of 20+ research papers on machine learning. He has been at the forefront of unsupervised learning—an approach he believes will define the future of AI. Before founding Helm, Vlad was Chief Scientist at Sift Security, a machine learning cybersecurity startup that was later acquired by Netskope in 2018. After that, he set out to build Helm.ai, rethinking how AI can be trained for autonomous systems. A new artificial intelligence bot, built by Chinese company DeepSeek, caused waves recently when it debuted – and caused the shares of major AI companies to plummet overnight. DeepSeek seems to work nearly as well as the American-built ChatGPT that you may already be using – but it was cheaper and easier to build, which is why some people wondered whether it also proved that America's AI experts were on the wrong path. Whether that's true or not, be careful about using DeepSeek at work. Security experts are still working through its architecture to find out whether it is safe to use – and warning that, among other things, it stores the data you enter into it on servers in China. Your company may have policies about the use of ChatGPT and other AI engines, so be careful before you even try DeepSeek – and that includes loading it onto any phone that also contains work-related data. One recent Netskope study suggested that DeepSeek is already being tested in 48% of companies – but until you can get more clarity, it's still best to approach it with caution. Check with your IT department to see if they have evaluated the technology yet – and if you're weighing up whether or not to install DeepSeek on your devices, err on the side of caution until it is better understood. Cybercriminals are becoming increasingly adept at phishing, with a significant rise in successful attacks targeting employees. Last year, 8.4 out of every 1,000 users clicked on a phishing link—nearly triple the rate from the previous year. This isn't just about suspicious emails; malicious links are prevalent across the internet, and attackers are leveraging generative AI to create increasingly convincing imitations of legitimate business communications and websites. While you've likely been warned about fake package delivery notices and bank alerts, it's crucial to understand that the most successful phishing attacks often impersonate cloud or other technology vendors—the very tools you rely on every day at work. These tech-related phishing links were clicked 27% of the time last year, according to Netskope's latest Cloud and Threat Report, significantly higher than fake bank or social media links. Don't be fooled by sophisticated-looking emails or websites, especially those related to technology services. Always consider the context: Are you expecting this communication? Does it align with your current work projects? And when in doubt, contact your IT or technical support team directly to verify the legitimacy of any suspicious communication. In this third episode in our customer series, Avi Freedman, Jezzibell Gilmore, and Joe DePalo from Netskope join host Philip Gervasi to explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence in IT operations. From NetOps and security operations to executive-level strategies, the group talks real-world AI use cases, potential risks, and best practices for safe and effective implementation.
In this second episode in our customer series, Avi Freedman, Jezzibell Gilmore, and Joe DePalo from Netskope return to share insights on how IT professionals can take control of their networks in 2025. From visibility and cost management to reducing reliance on third-party vendors, discover strategies to optimize your infrastructure and drive better business outcomes.
There have been huge increases in phishing globally over the past 12 months - and that phishing itself is undergoing a significant transformation. Both of these risk leaving people and businesses exposed going into 2025. Growing risks of phishing links in 2025 Netskope's Threat Labs researchers have found that: Phishing is surging globally, representing a major growing cybersecurity threat going into 2025: The number of users clicking on phishing links tripled in 2024, up to 8.4 out of every 1,000 users. This is a massive increase and represents a significantly bigger threat posed by phishing to people and organisations. The main factors leading to this increase are cognitive fatigue (with users constantly being bombarded with phishing attempts) and the creativity and adaptability of the attackers in delivering harder-to-detect baits. Phishing is fundamentally transforming, leaving many people and organisations with an outdated understanding of the threat. Unusually, the growth in phishing was driven by links shared through cloud applications, which were clicked on ten percentage points more than banking applications (27% of total clicks vs 17%). Microsoft 365 was the top target; other major targets included Adobe, DocuSign and Yahoo (see attached examples of what these phishing attacks look like in practice). This represents an evolution of phishing from primarily targeting money (e.g. via access to personal banking) to targeting data - reflective of the expansion of our digital lives and a shift in strategy from those carrying out phishing attacks in light of the growing value of data and its ubiquity in people's everyday lives. People are still the first line of cybersecurity defence, but these findings point to the fact that we have not improved understanding and education at the pace of technological change. With so much effort to educate the workforce to identify email threats, we need a similar campaign to re-frame what phishing looks like today Commenting on the findings, Ray Canzanese, head of the Netskope Threat Labs, said: "Social engineering will continue to be the top method attackers use to get an initial foothold in their target organizations in 2025, and phishing will be one of the most common techniques. "Despite years of efforts to educate people on how to spot a phishing link, the number of people clicking on phishing has tripled year over year. It is increasing because people are being bombarded with phishing links from all directions: email, social media, ads in search engine results, and all over the web. Furthermore, genAI is making it easier for attackers to craft convincing phishes. "All of this underscores the fact that educating users on detecting a phishing page is insufficient and that education must be coupled with technological solutions to the phishing problem." The finding comes in Netskope's 2025 Cloud and Threats report summarising the global cyber threats in 2024 - please find a copy here. Please also see below further findings which may be of interest. Personal app risk - Personal app use is rampant in the enterprise, with more than one out of every four users (26%) uploading, posting, or otherwise sending data to personal apps every month, with personal use of cloud storage, webmail, and genAI apps posing the most significant risks to organizations worldwide. Remote work blurs the lines of personal and business life, workers are also blurring the lines with personal and business data. There are also issues between using approved and preferred applications - particularly when it comes to GenAI apps which leads to the increase in shadow AI tools There has been a significant increase in the number of apps blocked by the top 25% of organizations, where the number of blocked apps more than doubled from 6.3 to 14.6 over the past year Adversarial risk - Adversary activity in 2024 mirrored the broader geopolitical landscape, with Russian groups TA577 and UAC-0050 and the Chinese group Salt Typh...
Continuing its global expansion plan, Integrity360 has acquired Nclose, a well-established and highly regarded cyber security services company operating out of both Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition comes on the back of the previously announced acquisition of Cape Town headquartered Grove Group in August 2024. Together with Nclose, Integrity360 resources in South Africa now total over 180 employees and will operate as a significant regional hub and global SOC (Security Operations Centre) location for the group serving both local and international customers. With the addition of Integrity360's new SOC in Madrid, which is coming on line during Q1 2025, the group will operate across six SOC locations, enabling the group to provide an ever-expanding multi lingual 24/7 capability for its comprehensive suite of managed services, including EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response), XDR (Extended Detection and Response), and MDR (Managed Detection and Response) solutions. Founded in 2006, Nclose has developed a reputation for service excellence amongst its customer base, which includes multiple leading South African and international businesses. Nclose provides a range of cyber security solutions, including consulting, a full suite of managed services for cyber infrastructure, MDR services and a select range of technology solutions from leading international cyber security vendors including CrowdStrike, Netskope, Tenable, McAfee, KnowBe4, Forcepoint and Sentinel One - all of which build on and are complementary to the group's existing relationships. Nclose adds approx. 150 customers, circa €18m to group revenues and approx. 125 employees, bringing the group on a 2024 pro forma basis to global revenues exceeding €150m, operating with a team of approx. 675 dedicated cyber security professionals. Continued innovation and demand for its services across EMEA will expand group revenues in 2025 across all territories. Significantly, Nclose also brings to the group "Cyberfire", an internally developed, innovative and complementary MDR platform which is ideally positioned for SME and mid-market organisations. Cyberfire will complement Integrity360's existing Gartner-recognised MDR service, which allows integration from multiple SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) platforms, network and end-point technologies. Cyberfire focuses on identifying "the real alerts that matter" and doesn't require a third-party SIEM as the platform contains over 1,300 AI-enhanced individual detections to identify malicious activity. These detections are continuously expanded month on month, by an in-house detection engineering team, and which add to and are complementary to the group's existing capability. Cyberfire is also priced based on the number of end points and not data consumed, making it more attractive than many other solutions where costs can depend on volumes of data, something that is not always predictable and can present budgeting issues for organisations. Integrity360 will invest further in the CyberFire platform and make it available to its wider set of international customers across all territories over the coming months. Nclose customers will benefit from access to Integrity360's extensive and complementary cyber services portfolio encapsulating cyber risk and assurance, cyber security testing, incident response, infrastructure, PCI compliance, and a highly comprehensive range of cyber security managed services, including innovative XDR/MDR solutions. Integrity360's innovative range of services have been recognised four times in a Gartner market guide most recently as a Representative Vendor for the second year running in the Gartner guide for Managed Detection and Response services. Ian Brown, Executive Chairman at Integrity360 commented: "We are very excited to be welcoming the Nclose team to Integrity360. The journey they have been on since their formation in ...

For decades securing a corporate network was as simple as securing your home office. Global workforces, outside partners, and widespread mobile access have changed that challenge into a seemingly endless set of attack surfaces for CIOs to battle. Whether it's a website, SAAS app, or a program running in a corporate data center, 5G is moving that tech and the networks they run on closer to the end user. Companies like Netskope are securing that path. In this episode of The Restless Ones, I had the chance to speak with Mike Anderson, CIO of Netskope, who is balancing the need for always-connected access with a zero-trust approach. Netskope customers depend on the company to be the gatekeeper to their networks, and the value that lies within. Mike's approach to using an agile mindset when applying security is critical in an ever-changing environment where users are looking to access applications anytime from anywhere.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Guest: Steve Riley, Field CTO, Netskope, ex-Gartner Research VP Topics: Analysts (well, like Steve and Anton in the past?) say that “cloud is secure, but clients just aren't using it securely”, what is your reaction to this today? When clients hear “use cloud securely”, what do you think comes to their minds? How would you approach planning for secure use of the cloud or using cloud securely? What is your view of cloud defense in depth (DiD) or layered defenses? How do you suggest clients think about it? What about DiD for SaaS? What are your thoughts on the evolution of zero trust? How has it changed since its introduction back in 2010? Awareness of and interest in SSE and SASE is growing. But at the same time, plenty of folks seem deeply perplexed by these. How would you explain them to someone not deeply immersed in the details? Jim's Bio: JIM EWEL is one of the authors of the Agile Marketing Manifesto and the co-founder of the Agile Marketing Alliance (www.agilemarketingalliance.com ). He is also the author of the essential guide to the implementation of Agile marketing, The Six Disciplines of Agile Marketing. Prior to Netskope, Steve came from Gartner, where for five years he maintained a collection of cloud security research that included the Magic Quadrant for Cloud Access Security Brokers and the Market Guide for Zero Trust Network Access. In this episode, Mike and Steve discuss the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Security Service Edge (SSE), Netskope's positioning, and how the current economic climate will impact the SASE journey.Get your complimentary copy of the 2023 Gartner Critical Capabilities for Security Service Edge report and review the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Security Service Edge-----------------“I would say that there's a lot of power in the singles. The single policy framework, the single console, the single agent. I've talked to a lot of folks who complain about having to log into multiple consoles, multiple single panes of glass, as some people might want to say. And they love the fact that when they come to Netskope, it's one spot. The singles are helping us eliminate all of these acronyms and eliminate all of the ways [of] thinking differently about the different destinations and having that unified policy mindset.” – Steve Riley-----------------Episode Timestamps:*(03:58): Steve's background at Gartner *(07:57): Steve discusses the importance of last year's SSE MQ*(10:49): What's changed about SSE in the last year*(19:51): How Netskope's positioning furthers the SASE journey*(24:43): How the current economic climate will affect SASE*(34:29): The most important outcome of getting SASE right*(37:45): Why SASE is the right bet to make*(40:13): 2030 Goggles*(44:11): Quick Hits*(48:23): Mike's 3 takeaways from his conversation with Steve-----------------Links:Connect with Steve Riley on LinkedInConnect with Mike Anderson LinkedInwww.netskope.com

Prior to Netskope, Parag was the CEO and co-founder of Infiot, which was acquired by Netskope in May 2022, and served as the Vice President of Products and founding member of Velocloud Networks. In this episode, Mike sits down with Parag to discuss the convergence of networking and security teams, how SD-WAN helps the hybrid workforce, and simplifying the end user journey.-----------------“I would say, encourage security buyers and security people to also start thinking about performance characteristics and optimization, and whether that infrastructure can deliver that for them or not. And they don't need to be experts. It's a very simple question in terms of, ‘Can I get this high performance connectivity from this cloud security that I'm purchasing or that security vendor that I'm looking for?' I think ease of operations and that high performance connectivity is something that security should also look at as a criteria when they look at security platforms.” – Parag Thakore-----------------Episode Timestamps:*(02:12): Parag's background*(07:18): Parag's take on security as a team sport*(12:48): The convergence of networking and security teams*(24:02): How SD-WAN helps the hybrid workforce*(27:01): The consolidation opportunity SD-WAN provides*(29:58): Creating better digital citizens through SD-WAN and converged principles*(31:54): 2030 Goggles*(35:23): Quick Hits*(38:54): Mike's takeaways-----------------Links:Connect with Parag Thakore on LinkedInConnect with Mike Anderson LinkedInwww.netskope.com

Joe is a mentor, author, speaker, and CIO with more than 35 years of experience leading IT organizations to drive business results. He is the founder of CIO Mentor, a consulting company that aims to help IT leaders achieve success in their organizations. In this episode, Mike sits down with Joe to discuss enterprise risk management, fostering relationships with business units, and people-powered frameworks.-----------------“I think having an enterprise risk management program is really huge. Whether it's formal or not, somebody has to be responsible for risk overall. That gets to this whole idea that it is a team sport and everyone has a role to play, especially business unit leaders that are making decisions on cloud platforms on their own. They're playing a huge role on that. [...] The idea around cybersecurity several years ago, it wasn't quite where it is now, but the enterprise risk management team has done a really solid effort of elevating the dialogue and getting everyone more cognitive and aware that cybersecurity is not just an IT thing, it's a company thing and it fits into the whole cybersecurity framework overall.” – Joe Topinka-----------------Episode Timestamps:*(02:53): Joe's journey to becoming a CIO *(11:07): How Joe advises people on translating business management to security *(15:52): Joe's new CIO acronym*(20:25): Mike and Joe discuss the business relationship aspect of security*(29:42): The importance of enterprise risk management programs*(37:35): 2030 Goggles*(41:13): Quick Hits-----------------Links:Connect with Joe on LinkedInConnect with Mike on LinkedInwww.netskope.com

This episode features Mike Anderson leading a roundtable discussion with Ilona Simpson, Chief Information Officer EMEA at Netskope and David Fairman, Chief Information & Chief Security Officer APAC at Netskope. In this episode, Ilona and David share their predictions and resolutions for cybersecurity in 2023. You'll hear predictions about the industrial metaverse, confidential computing, quantified risk reduction plans, and convergence of priorities for security teams.-----------------“If you think about cybersecurity, we are just a subset of a broader operational risk. Operational risk actually has a much better approach or a little bit more maturity in being able to quantify operational risk in the organization. CISOs need to be able to stand toe-to-toe and be able to have a discussion at parity in regards to risk buydown for this subset of operational risk. And that's really where we are. I think as an industry, as a practice, as a profession, we need to get much smarter at figuring out how do we make this a much more quantitative conversation.” – David Fairman-----------------Episode Timestamps:*(02:47) - Prediction & Resolution: The Industrial Metaverse*(12:23) - Prediction & Resolution: Confidential Computing *(17:54) - Prediction & Resolution: Quantified Risk Reduction Plans*(25:27) - Prediction & Resolution: Convergence of Priorities as a Result of Transformation*(30:38) - Mike's Prediction: Vendor Consolidation-----------------Links:Connect with Ilona on LinkedInConnect with David on LinkedInConnect with Mike Anderson LinkedInwww.netskope.com
