Stacey Norman and J Sbu had an intense relationship question to ask KZN. Do opposites attract? To help answer this question, they called resident Spark Tester Trav Lloyd who believes that opposites don't actually attract. Studies have consistently shown that people are more likely to be attracted to those who share similar qualities, attitudes, and values. Similarity is a strong predictor of attraction, research has also explored the role of sociodemographic dimensions, such as education, ethnicity, and age. Studies have shown that online daters are more likely to contact and respond to individuals who share similar backgrounds, highlighting the importance of similarity in relationship formation.

Over the next week or so, I wanted to reshare the top several episodes of 2024! These are essentially "voted on" by you, the listeners, based on the episodes that had the most downloads over the course of the past calendar year. For longtime listeners of the podcast, I think this will be a welcomed revisit of the compelling, invigorating conversations had with these guests; for newer listeners of The Red Light Report, you are undoubtedly in for a treat. Sit back, relax and enjoy learning from some of the best minds and thought leaders in the wellness and longevity spaces!- The more and more I learn about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture, the more I am intrigued and it just makes intuitive sense. It also helps when you learn this deep and complex knowledge from someone as intelligent and articulate as (now) three-time guest, Dr. Chris Motley. Long-time listeners of the show are familiar with Dr. Motley and his amazing command and intuition when it comes to TCM and other holistic modalities; new listeners.... you are in for a treat! He is by far one of my favorite humans to talk with, on and off the mic. Dr. Motley not only speaks from his depth of learning the information, but even more so from hands-on experience from his full day's of treating patients. During our conversation today, he details some fascinating discoveries he's made via experimenting with red light therapy and acupuncture points; he has observed some profound results particularly with viruses!  We also take a deep dive into the importance of our fascial system and why it is a crucial (and, unfortunately, a highly underrated and overlooked organ system) facet of our overall wellbeing. Most commonly known for playing a major role in our mobility and flexibility, the fascia plays a much deeper role in our vitality. Dr. Motley and I also discuss the invaluable role that cupping plays in optimizing fascial health, which leads to innumerable benefits that we detail during our talk. We also delve into some intriguing topics that are of special interest to Dr. Motley currently, including psychological aspect of physiological growth, the connection between psychological stress and organ growth patterns and the exploration of devices that detect static charges on the skin for diagnostic purposesI hope you enjoy the conversation today with Dr. Motely. What did you think? Text us! We are unable to reply on this app, so include phone # or email address. In this episode, host, David Nakhla is joined by deacon John Stahl (Immanuel OPC, Wilmington, DE), deacon John Voss (Covenant OPC, Orland Park, IL) and pastor Adrian Crum (Harvest OPC, Wyoming, MI) to discuss our fist set of listener questions, from Caleb in Phoenix, Arizona, all related to I Timothy 5:3-16. This is an insightful, yet complex passage regarding widows and how they are to be regarded and provided for by the church. Caleb's questions:1. How should deacons interact with people asking for help when they have not yet asked their family for it? Verse four basically implies it's first the family's job then the church's job right? And is it the deacons job to go to the family asking for money on behalf of the person, or just telling them to ask and then come back if they refuse? Just overall I wonder what that interaction should look like. Have you ever had to enact church discipline on family members unwilling to provide for a widow (since they are "worse than an unbeliever")? Also, do you think this also applies to people with only unbelieving family?2. How do deacons (or how SHOULD they) deal with the command to "refuse to enroll younger widows" (v. 11) and basically refuse to help people that could change their own circumstance (get remarried?) Is Paul referring to this group of "widows" widely and generally. Some of these concepts probably have to carry over to widowers as well so how do you decide what is specific to that time period and what is prescribed for today's church?3. Similarity to #2, how should deacons focus on the godliness of those asking for help? Verses 9-10 seem to say that they must have shown exceptional godliness to be enrolled. (is there something special about this term "enrollment" compared to general financial help?) How do deacons differentiate between a request of a very godly member of the church compared to a spiritually lukewarm member (or an outside unbeliever asking for help)?Although our panel doesn't pretend to have all the answers, we hope you will find the discussion to be insightful, helpful and scripturally based. If you have questions you'd like more insight on, please be sure to email us: mail@thereformeddeacon.org.Referenced in this episode: Hebrews 3:131 Timothy 5:4The Deacon: The Biblical Roots and the Ministry of Mercy Today1 Corinthians 7:37Hebrews 13:17You can find all of our episodes at thereformeddeacon.org. Things Discussed: Pre-show Tiger Talk: The trick is blowing out arms and managing your pitching staff. Tigers lost 4/5 starters from their expected rotation so they had to do the Bill James thing and do away with them. The way: counter the top of the order with a reliever, have your "starter" pitch 1.5 times through the lineup, go to your bullpen when you get back to the top of the order so the best hitters are never seeing the same pitcher twice. What a year: Tigers, Lions, and Michigan won playoff games in 2024 and the Wings and Pistons did not. Washington slip-ups: What can you fix, what can you not? Time to replace Evan Link—Persi is fine. Gonna go with Tuttle; that won't be a panacea but apparently they were preparing for him all along. Get Jyaire Hill some cleats. Defensively what's the problem? On standard downs they're elite, on passing downs they get too creative, and they're creating busts. Zeke Berry is not Mike Sainristil. You don't play Jyaire Hill like he's Aamir Hall: have him roll up and play some man. Makari Paige: he's a senior but he's not a Peppers who can line up at the LB level and run with Giles Jackson. Mitigating factors: Minter and Mac had long ramp-ups not Texas, USC and @Washington in their first three games. Wink came in thinking he gets to run an NFL defense and he's not used to playing with guys who have major holes in their games. Similarity to early Mac defenses: It wasn't until Week 8 that they could adjust to tempo (and even then they got caught in late changes). Macdonald came in running weird stuff and then learned to trust his best players. Evan Link: Brian still has him grading out terribly, Craig thought he's been better. Sam thinks Persi deserves a shot to start at RT. The "HOT coverage"—coach Twitter can come up with some reason it makes sense, but if you're running something you can't run that's on the coaches. Also it was tempo and Guy didn't know what was happening. Wink dialed it back for Arkansas State and Minnesota, but when he's under pressure he reverts to his weird stuff. Gotta know you don't have to be the answer; you can let your guys be the answer. Last offseason was a failure. This offseason is going to make or break this staff. Tuttle is not going to fix everything. He had a two-man route and a "you gotta throw that" to Amorion Walker in single coverage and didn't pull the trigger, then fumbled. His interception was way behind his target. Washington was slipping too. But when they fell over it's just because they suck at this. Did they not water the turf? Was it on purpose to give UW an edge? Let's create a pellets conspiracy! THAT WAS A JOKE; READERS I SWEAR TO G-D DO NOT CREATE A WET PELLETS CONSPIRACY.

Welcome to Episode 243 of Lucretius Today. This is a podcast dedicated to the poet Lucretius, who wrote "On The Nature of Things," the most complete presentation of Epicurean philosophy left to us from the ancient world. Each week we walk you through the Epicurean texts, and we discuss how Epicurean philosophy can apply to you today. If you find the Epicurean worldview attractive, we invite you to join us in the study of Epicurus at EpicureanFriends.com, where we have a thread to discuss this and all of our podcast episodes.Today we are continuing to review Cicero's "On the Nature of The Gods," which began with the Epicurean spokesman Velleius defending the Epicurean point of view. This week will continue into Section 26 as Cotta, the Academic Skeptic, responds to Velleius, and we - in turn - will respond to Cotta in particular and the Skeptical argument in general.Today's TextXXVI. It seems an unaccountable thing how one soothsayer can refrain from laughing when he sees another. It is yet a greater wonder that you can refrain from laughing among yourselves. It is no body, but something like body! I could understand this if it were applied to statues made of wax or clay; but in regard to the Deity, I am not able to discover what is meant by a quasi-body or quasi-blood. Nor indeed are you, Velleius, though you will not confess so much. For those precepts are delivered to you as dictates which Epicurus carelessly blundered out; for he boasted, as we see in his writings, that he had no instructor, which I could easily believe without his public declaration of it, for the same reason that I could believe the master of a very bad edifice if he were to boast that he had no architect but himself: for there is nothing of the Academy, nothing of the Lyceum, in his doctrine; nothing but puerilities. He might have been a pupil of Xenocrates. O ye immortal Gods, what a teacher was he! And there are those who believe that he actually was his pupil; but he says otherwise, and I shall give more credit to his word than to another's. He confesses that he was a pupil of a certain disciple of Plato, one Pamphilus, at Samos; for he lived there when he was young, with his father and his brothers. His father, Neocles, was a farmer in those parts; but as the farm, I suppose, was not sufficient to maintain him, he turned school-master; yet Epicurus treats this Platonic philosopher with wonderful contempt, so fearful was he that it should be thought he had ever had any instruction. But it is well known he had been a pupil of Nausiphanes, the follower of Democritus; and since he could not deny it, he loaded him with insults in abundance. If he never heard a lecture on these Democritean principles, what lectures did he ever hear? What is there in Epicurus's physics that is not taken from Democritus? For though he altered some things, as what I mentioned before of the oblique motions of the atoms, yet most of his doctrines are the same; his atoms—his vacuum—his images—infinity of space—innumerable worlds, their rise and decay—and almost every part of natural learning that he treats of.Now, do you understand what is meant by quasi-body and quasi-blood? For I not only acknowledge that you are a better judge of it than I am, but I can bear it without envy. If any sentiments, indeed, are communicated without obscurity, what is there that Velleius can understand and Cotta not? I know what body is, and what blood is; but I cannot possibly find out the meaning of quasi-body and quasi-blood. Not that you intentionally conceal your principles from me, as Pythagoras did his from those who were not his disciples; or that you are intentionally obscure, like Heraclitus. But the truth is (which I may venture to say in this company), you do not understand them yourself.

The Project aims to help support entire communities of Muslim parents, teachers, and children in realizing how to live by and embody the noble Prophetic character through self-observation and correction. The Fons Vitae Ghazali Children's Series provides authentic quality Tarbiyah guidance for children of all ages at a time when their values are being formed. Imam al-Ghazali's systematic approach for developing virtuous character is distilled and simplified and provided in an educational package which includes beautifully produced children's books, and original texts for parents and teachers. These materials offer a creative, enjoyable and spiritual supplement or alternative to standard Islamic Studies curricula with a strong focus on the purification of the heart. The aim of the Ghazali Children's Project is to support children:• in their ability to recognize and maintain their innate human dignity.• in realizing nobility of character through imitation of the Prophetic qualities realized by understanding, loving, and practicing the inner dimensions of all outward acts – to stop simply just “going through the motions”.• in becoming aware of their True Selves and in identifying with this pure aspect of their being rather than with the lower, false, egoic and separative nature which is centered on itself [al-nafs alammara].• in becoming self-observant and self-correcting.• in living life with humility and in service.Chapters:00:00:00 - Introduction to Aisha Gray Henry00:05:06 - The Trust of God and Our Purpose00:10:07 - The Harm of Gossiping and Backbiting00:15:00 - Recognizing Authentic Spirituality and the Similarity between Jesus and Muhammad00:19:35 - The Book of Knowledge for Children00:24:04 - The Polishing of the Heart00:28:30 - The Miracles of Speech and the Heart00:33:16 - Stories within Stories00:38:25 - Sharing Knowledge with Islamic Educators00:42:57 - The Parallel Between Music and CreativitySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blogging-theology/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
