Chris Holman welcomes Mike McFall, Co-Founder/Co-CEO, Biggby Coffee, East Lansing, MI There were several things Chris wanted to find our during their conversation: Mike welcome, remind the Michigan business community about Biggby Coffee's history? Big news right now is BIGGBY COFFEE celebrating 30 years of growth, customer loyalty, and specialty coffee innovation, tell us about that? What have been some of the highlights over those 3 decades? BIGGBY COFFEE has been known for fostering enduring relationships with vendors, speak to that for business success? Your roasters are now processing 100 times as much from your early days, speak to the consistency? How is the company planning for its future, at 30 years it's also evolved into a multi-generational business, speak to that? The high-energy coffee franchise is celebrating three decades of growth with a nationwide party and looking forward to its continued impact as it supports people in building lives they love. EAST LANSING, MI, March 2025 -- BIGGBY® COFFEE, the 430+ unit high-energy coffee franchise committed to helping people build lives they love while centering ethical and sustainable practices, is marking its 30th birthday with a nationwide celebration on March 26. From a single coffee shop in East Lansing, Michigan to a flourishing franchise operation across 13 states, BIGGBY® COFFEE's journey exemplifies the power of putting people first and strengthening the communities they serve. "Most businesses don't make it past five years," said Co-Founder and Co-CEO Bob Fish. "We've navigated three different economic cycles, a financial crisis and COVID. We've been nimble, perseverant and maintained our durability." The company's success has been a collective achievement "Our company thrives because of the people who power it — our team members, franchise owners, customers and vendor partners," said Co-Founder and Co-CEO Mike McFall. "We are dedicated to unlocking human potential, encouraging every individual to pursue their passions and be themselves, while ensuring our culture remains deeply rooted in care, connection, inclusion and belonging." The company's success stems from its unwavering commitment to its core values. BIGGBY® COFFEE has fostered enduring relationships with vendors, including their roaster who grew from processing 20,000 pounds of coffee in their first year to 2.6 million pounds today. The franchise system has evolved into a multi-generational business, with second-generation owners taking the reins and expanding their family networks. About The BIGGBY® COFFEE Franchise BIGGBY® COFFEE, based in East Lansing, Mich., was started with a single store on March 15, 1995. One year later, and on the cusp of opening a second location, Bob Fish and Michael McFall, on a handshake and $4,000, decided to franchise the concept. The brand's cultural values of Make Friends, Have Fun, B Yourself and Share Great Coffee help coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike benefit from a less pretentious and fun approach to the standard gourmet cafe paradigm. Besides connoisseur-worthy drinks with names like Teddy Bear® and Caramel Marvel®, BIGGBY® COFFEE baristas provide a unique experience focused on brightening their customers' day and supporting them in building a life they love. The "Big 'B'" on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY® COFFEE has 430+ cafes across many states, including Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Idaho, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida. » MBN website: www.michiganbusinessnetwork.com/

How the next generation of InfoSec leaders can better prepare themselves to navigate the threats of tomorrowIdentifying the quick wins and making the most of the finite time new CISOs have to get their message acrossPractical measures for reducing stress, burnout and frustration within InfoSec teams over the longer termThis episode is hosted by Thom Langfordhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/thomlangford/Paul Watts, Distinguished Analyst, Information Security Forum (ISF)https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulewatts/Dr Andrea Cullen, Co Founder/Co CEO, CAPSLOCKhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-andrea-cullen/
How do you solve the problem of trust? Confidence is a prerequisite for large-scale adoption. With the deluge of speculation about Generative AI, organizations everywhere are establishing regulations and certifications to solve for fidelity, trust, and assurance. We're also seeing substantial debate regarding the viability of such efforts at this stage in the adoption of AI-empowered capabilities. Guest Emre Kazim is the co-Founder and co-CEO of Holistic AI, a hot startup empowering organizations to adopt and scale AI with confidence - which at its core, is solving the problem of trust. Emre shares an overview of the current ecosystems within and across the AI landscape - policy, industry, and society... federal, state, and local levels of activity. The path to AI governance is heating up and challenges us to answer the difficult questions - who will be the ultimate arbiter of trust and what are those entities' self-interests; what trade-offs are made and tolerated within AI-enabled systems of trust; what gaps exist between AI-powered capabilities, regulations, and policy... As you might suspect, the proximity of policy-making to the development of the capabilities they govern is key. Controlling the harm depends upon understanding the specific use case, the context of use, and the underlying layers of operability and interoperability - enabling a more precise assessment of the corresponding risk. Steady experimentation in practical, tangible use cases are the path forward enabling the real shift possible with AI. At the core - trust comes from confidence, and confidence comes from using these systems over time. Good governance will come from the same ecosystem that innovated these capabilities. On September 9th What Bitcoin Did hosted a live show in Sydney. In this first of two podcasts, the guests were the Co-Founder & Co-CEO of Iris Energy Daniel Roberts, Glassnode's Lead On-chain Analyst Checkmate, & the Open Software & Lightning Network developer Rusty Russell. Across these interviews, we discussed various topics related to Bitcoin, including its meaning, its impact on people's thinking, and its potential to reshape the financial system. - - - - What Bitcoin Did's live events are a growing part of our work. We've been incredibly fortunate to host shows across the US and in the UK. Now, we've had the huge honour of hosting a show in Sydney Australia. It is important to extend our reach into new geographies, as the number of talented people working in Bitcoin obviously extends to all corners of the world. But importantly, each geography has invaluable perspectives. This show, as with all the live shows, covered a huge amount of ground. The conversation commenced with Checkmate providing his views on the meaning of Bitcoin. He described money as time and saw Bitcoin as a source of hope and an opportunity to think differently. Further, Checkmate believes that Bitcoin can reshape our understanding of money and its role in society. Rusty Russell, a civil engineer turned Bitcoin advocate, shared his journey from scepticism about finance to working in the field. He explained that as an engineer, he views the world from a problem-solving perspective, which differs from the traditional economic viewpoint. He believes that Bitcoin defies logic for traditional economists because it is too simple and elegant for them to understand. Daniel Roberts and I talked about Iris Energy, a Bitcoin mining company that supports What Bitcoin Did. Daniel explained Bitcoin mining's opportunity in the context of the energy market, and how Bitcoin mining acts as a demand-side battery allowing miners to adjust their energy consumption based on market pricing. We addressed the misconception that Bitcoin miners are exploiting the energy grid, emphasising that they are part of a functioning market and contribute to grid stability. The show also covered many other important topics, including the value of data to trading Bitcoin, patterns of behaviour in the Bitcoin market, the Potential of next-generation computing and AI for Bitcoin mining, the different stages of Bitcoin's development, and the potential risks and uncertainties associated with stablecoins. Watch out for the second show which has the discussion with the equally awesome pairing of Nik Bhatia and Willy Woo. Joining us today is Mike McFall, the Co-Founder/Co-CEO of BIGGBY Coffee. Mike's story is truly fascinating: in 1995, he and his friend decided to make a coffee chain, and their simple agreement has blossomed into one of America's largest coffee chains, a franchise operation with over 350 locations. It's clear that Mike is an “entrepreneur's entrepreneur”, and in this episode, he tells me something I'm truly envious of: that he doesn't suffer from crippling anxiety at 3am and rather has an innate sense that everything will always work out. I'm sure you're just like that. No? Must be nice, right? Well, even though his path has been slow and steady, everything has appeared to work out for this remarkable human, and he's documenting his unique, human-forward approach to business in a series of books. I know I'm about to get schooled in this conversation, and if you and a buddy ever thought about building something cool, you are too. ➡️ https://www.biggby.com/ ➡️ Highlights: https://rosspalmer.com/mike-mcfall ➡️ Follow me on Instagram: @therosspalmer ➡️ Subscribe on YouTube: @therosspalmer

Ryan Duey is the Co-Founder + Co-CEO of plunge.com. Plunge has seen fantastic growth with increases in demand for cold plunge and contrast therapy coming out of the pandemic. Ryan and I go deep into what caused the company's parabolic rise and how he and his co-founder Michael Garrett were able to both help create and capitalize on the current cold plunge boom.We talk about getting free organic exposure from Lebron James. Plunge's origin story during COVID lockdowns. His appearance on SharkTank, goals for the future and his honest advice for young entrepreneurs. A really fascinating insight is Ryan's concept of the entourage effect. I had never heard of the concept before, but I think it is a genius and a big reason why the company and cold plunges in general took off so quickly in the United States. If you like health and wellness or a great founder story that involves taking risks and pivoting during adversity, then I think you will really like this episode.Discussion Topics:(1:17) Icebreaker: study abroad.(3:16) Lebron James, Tony Hawk, Andrew Huberman and more. (14:37) Why did cold plunge go parabolic in December 2022?(21:30) The entourage effect.(24:09) Which celebrity has the coolest house?(30:47) Plunge's origin story - necessity is the mother of invention.(38:12) Sharktank … was it worthwhile?(43:00) Sauna launch.(51:29) Advice for young entrepreneurs.(53:33) Rapid fire.

Today's guest is Aneel Bhusri, the Co-Founder, Co-CEO and Chairman of Workday, an American on‑demand financial management and human capital management software vendor. When Aneel started Workday with David Duffield, they defined a handful of core values for their company. Now this is pretty common practice for business leaders, but here's the problem. A lot of leaders write down the company values and never think about them again. They even laminate them, put them up on the wall, but I've got to tell you, all they do is collect dust. But that wasn't the case with Aneel and his Co-Founder Dave Duffield, they decided that investing in their people was going to be the number one value at their company. So how did they live out that value? Well, believe it or not, they personally interviewed the first 500 team members they hired. Now that's something that says they value people over anything else. The key lesson here is that they aligned their schedules and their priorities with the company's number one value. You see, the great leaders I know walk the talk of their core values. They just don't write them down and forget them. They actually use their core values to dictate how they spend their time, and how they focus their energy.
