The New York Yankees have another Roberto Clemente Award winner! This time, it was Captain Aaron Judge's turn to win the honor which was bestowed upon Derek Jeter way back in 2009. In case you don't know about the award: “The Roberto Clemente Award is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field.” Judge spoke to the media in Arizona ahead of Game Three of the World Series and discussed what winning the award means to him, and he talked about how he thought about how he could give back to the community as early as draft day way back in 2013. Stacey and Steve discuss the importance of the award and basically gush about how cool a dude Judge is. Then, they talk about the significance of the 2023-24 offseason. They discuss the reasons why it's so important for the Yankees and, more specifically, the front office and Brian Cashman and wonder what would happen if the offseason is a bad one and the Yankees continue down a bad path in 2024.Audio courtesy of MLB Advanced Media.Join the LOY Insiders Club via subtext! https://joinsubtext.com/lockedonyankeesWhat is the insider's club? https://youtu.be/BItWi-kbIJY?t=1468Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH5857VCyYLAzsWr9vHk4sQFollow Stacey On Twitter: https://twitter.com/StaceGotsSubscribe to Steve's YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@stevegranadoFollow Steve On Twitter: https://twitter.com/SteveGranadoFollow the Show On Twitter: https://twitter.com/LockedOnYankeesSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!FanDuelScore early this NFL season with FanDuel, America's Number One Sportsbook! Jason Yeh and I had a super fun chat about founders, how to help them better tell their stories, and some great examples he's seen. We also talked about the changes in the venture capital landscape in the last year, and what's likely ahead. He's spent a lot of time internationally as well, especially Brazil, so we discussed his experiences there. Jason was early at MLB Advanced Media 15 years ago, was an investor and entrepreneur in residence at Greycroft, he's been a founder multiple times himself and now works with as many others as he can help at Adamant. He puts out great content, too, on social media, his podcast, FundedPod, as well as his weekly newsletter, adamant.beehiiv.com. The New York Baseball teams are wheeling and dealing. The Mets have been buyers and sellers which actually makes sense. Meanwhile, the Yankees seem like they're really going for it this year, at least as much as they can without giving up MAJOR prospects. We'll be talking with Nick Vigliotti of MLB Advanced Media all about his thoughts on the moves of the Yankees. Charles Oakley recently came out saying that he believes NBA players now a day might as well be wearing dresses, that's how soft they are. Are those comments warranted? We'll discuss. Also, NFL training camp has begun and what is the outlook in the Big Apple for Big Blue and Gang Green?
Bob Bowman, Major League Baseball's president of business and media, talks about the changing landscape of the game's audience, the challenge of courting millennials and how the league's experiment with a pay-one-price monthly pass seems to be working. He also talks about baseball's technology arm and why he can't get a decent meal in his office. Bowman is charged with overseeing revenue-generating and media rights activities across MLB's array of assets, including MLB Advanced Media and MLB Network. Bowman created BamTech, a $3.5 billion spinoff one-third owned by The Walt Disney Company. Last year, The Sporting News named Bowman as the 14th most influential person in sports.
Welcome to Barbecast 111. This is the last Barbecast. As you may or may not know by now, we are transitioning to Tha BBQ Part II, aka the part where we work for MLB Advanced Media. You can read all about that by clicking here. But this is our last hurrah, the final victory lap for this audio adventure we've been on for nearly four years. As is only right, this episode features arguably the three most important guests of Barbecast lore, but we began with a large pile of fantastic e-mails from you wonderful listeners, including questions about Kelly vs. Avril, Napoleon Bookbindery, baseballers on rollerskates, and of course, a beautiful final story from OBP himself. Thank you all so much for all the kind words. Our first special guest (at 42:10) is Craig Goldstein, our inaugural guest and one of our favorite people. We talked about Craig stuff. Our second special guest (at 52:40) was the most frequent guest in Barbecast history and we like her even more than we like Craig. It's Lana Berry! Lana recently had a tweet get over 100,000 likes. We talked about that and then said goodbye forever. Our third and final special guest (at 1:05:40) is Kieran Lovegrove, right-handed pitcher in the Cleveland Indians organization and the OFFICIAL minor leaguer of the Cespedes Family BBQ. Kieran is a Lynchburg Hillcat now, so we checked in on how his season is going and how he likes his new logo. We concluded (at 1:18:15) with some details about our new job, and some final hearty thanks for all of your support. For one final time (on here): thanks for listening

"If you are gonna wake up every day and you are gonna go to a job that you truly love and you're truly passionate about and it makes you happy, then it doesn't matter if you're pigeonholed." On this week's episode, Alex joins the podcast to discuss her rise in an extensive and ambitious sports career to the biggest sports brand in the world where she's currently an art director for the Consumer Product division of the NFL. Hello again! The dog days of summer are here, so there's not much to talk about... but that's never stopped us before, right? It's a special episode for us, as we actually got to sit in the same room and do our thing. We talk a little more about the team's efforts in free agency, and spend more time talking about some season-ticket holder events and news, and about a Q&A with Blues owner Tom Stillman. The biggest news of the day was the deal that the NHL signed with MLB Advanced Media. That and some other events and trends leads us to discuss the bigger picture, what we've heard called "Capital H Hockey".
Chris Spatola joined Mike Maniscalco to discuss which NFL franchises are in "great" shape with QB play and which ones are in just "good" shape. Why are the Patriots and the Broncos just in the "good" category? Why can't you put Cam and the Panthers in the "Great" category yet? Ken Fang talked about the NHL joining forces with MLB Advanced Media and why that's a good thing for hockey fans.
This week, the Kansas City Baseball Vault covered a lot of topics, starting with the controversial decision by MLB Advanced Media to pull the plug on multiple fan podcasts on iTunes. The Royals Podcast Network was among the iTunes casualties, and we explained where things stand - long story short, not much is going to change at all, and if you're listening now, you've found other ways to hear our show. Keep checking in on Soundcloud, Stitcher Radio, any other podcast app, or RoyalsPodcast.com for new episodes. Then we covered the crazy weekend, the awful Monday night loss in San Diego, and the small bit of redemption through Wednesday. The Royals seem to be showing some life after a rough start to May that brought back painful memories of last season's awful May.The bulk of our discussion centered around plate approach and the importance of valuing at bats and getting on base. We compared some Dayton Moore quotes to some winning teams' track records with OBP and other stats to find a consistent model for winning and where the Royals are in fitting that mold. Finally we talked about the upcoming series in Seattle and the upcoming homestand. Thanks to Kelly's Westport Inn for helping us bring you Royals discussion every week.
Finally - spring training games are underway, and while there's not a lot of information to go through yet, storylines are starting up. Jeff and Mike talked about some of the hitters, the roster construction, and what Danny Duffy and Yordano Ventura's performances mean (so far). Then we talked about the new play-tracking system that MLB Advanced Media announced. This is a revolutionary system that can track player movements all across the diamond and opens things up to a wide array of new analysis and applications. Links detailing these systems are below. Finally, we wrapped up celebrating the likely end of Friends In Low Places as the Royals home sixth inning song. Sorry Garth.
