What? Read that title again. Yes this is Lacero. A fanfic that became canon. Why did it become canon? Listen to a few minutes of the podcast and it all becomes crystal clear. Hey are you ready for a fun trip into 80s nostalgia! Well you've come to the right place... in like 121 pages or so. Yeah we'll throw you a bone here and there. You remember Marty McFly's alarm clock?!? Yeah... I hope that reference will sustain you. Because we're not going to spend a whole lot of time in the Oasis doing Ready Player One stuff. Sure we'll go steal the script to Princess Bride but all that action and plot progression and "stuff that's actually happening" is going to have to come in part 2 of the book.I'm not joking. If you've read this book (and you obviously have because everyone reads along with us) you know that the pacing of this book is awful, the author really didn't care about this book, and he phones in the majority of it. That's so apparent here in part 1 where we're going to lay the ground work. The same way Ernest does: telling it to you directly. Then we're going to lay some groundwork, put some work on the ground, build up to some future stuff, establish the ground that we will be standing on, pouring the foundation for the book... do you get the point yet? This book sucks but Nate had to read it so you have to listen to this episode. As a famous, jewel-headed robot once said, what is grief if not love persevering? In this chapter, Cline ponders the very same question in the aftermath of the tragic circumstances which led to Mark Rylance crashing a plane into Art3mis. And his answer is not what you'd expect!Important Links
If you grew up watching John Hughes movies, perhaps Planet Shermer would be the first world in the OASIS you visit. Or, maybe not? Your favorite Gunters are visiting Planet Shermer to follow Parzival, Art3mis, Aech, and Shoto, as they track down the next shard. Does Planet Shermer make you wish the OASIS existed? Where would you go first? Take a day off, grab the key's to the Ferrari, and let's Get To The Good Part!
Next stop, Shermer, Illinois! Our Gunter team has arrived, and Art3mis lays out the ground rules: Don't talk to anyone, don't touch anything, don't do anything, don't interact with anyone, and try not to look at anything. Simple, right? Watch out for needle drops and NPCs, and let's Get To The Good Part!
The laborious play-by-play of Sega Ninja is over--finally--only to watch the awkwardness that is teenage romance. After Wade "experiences" the moment Kira and Ogden meet (and the moment James Halliday learns all about being the third wheel), we snag the Second Shard, and figure out where we are going next. We might need some help, so let's give Art3mis a call, and Get To The Good Part!

Konnichiwa all you Otakus out there. I hope you're ready for the final installment of the epic sci-fi hit: Ready Player One! Join Ben and Nate for the dramatic conclusion we were all waiting for, in theory. At last Wade has a plan he executed 3 weeks ago that will come in at a crucial moment to turn the tide of this battle. But will it be enough? Will Wade win the 400 billion dollars, or will he realize that the true prize was the friends we got along the way? Both. It's both. He gets the girl and the money. What do we get? We get to watch our lives crumble away as we're bankrupted by the very rich twenty-something we helped put into power. If there's a metaphor in here, you can bet Ernest Cline drove right past it in his DeLorean! "You don't live in the real world, Z. From what you've told me, I don't think you ever have. You're like me. You live inside this illusion." — Art3mis in Ready Player One by Ernest Cline A classic sci-fi novel featuring the VR and AR of the future, in Ready Player One, Cline draws you into the OASIS, a VR video game that looks, feels, and acts like reality. It’s astounding tech and a story that has helped define sci-fi as a genre, but, today, how much of it is really fiction? How soon will we be able to join the proverbial OASIS? Anjney Midha is the co-founder and CEO of Ubiquity6, a startup using computer vision to create multiplayer experiences for virtual and augmented reality. Prior to founding Ubiquity6, Anjney went to Stanford University where he got bit by the entrepreneurial bug and founded his first company during his sophomore year. After college, Anjney began his career in venture capital as Founding Partner of KPCB Edge, a Kleiner Perkins fund formed to support founders in AR, VR and computer vision. Ubiquity6 has a mission to bring people together in physical spaces by building a platform to enable persistent, massively shared augmented reality experiences. Anjney discusses the "three pillars." "The three pillars: The way we bring folks together is to give anybody the ability to turn any real-world location into a shared space for a shared activity across the AR and VR," says Anjney. “Secondly, is a really fast and easy way to author in those spaces. Lastly, it is a way to launch and distribute those experiences with a URL without having to keep building these large, stand-alone mobile experiences that people don't want to download anymore." On this episode of Mission Daily, Ian and Anjney sit down and discuss how his experience in VC led to the creation of Ubiquity6, the future of AR and VR experiences, and the distinction between AR and VR for developers and gamers. — We have a new partnership with b8ta! Book Vs Movie (Replay) “Ready Player One” The Margos Put on Their Game-Faces in This Hyper 80s Ep The Margos are feeling stoked about this 1980s-centric soaked episode talking about a much-requested book/movie Ready Player One from first time author Ernest Cline. This pop-culture stuffed tale features more gamer references than anything we have remotely covered in the past so we are a bit nervous about how accurate we will be, (Be kind if you are a first-time listener!) Both book and movie have the same basic plot--set in the miserable 2040s, Wade Watts is a teenage orphan who wishes for a life outside the stacked trailer parks. In fact, most people are unhappy with the real world and choose to escape to the virtual world known as OASIS. Created by shy genius James Halliday, the OASIS survives after his recent death but he left several clues (“easter eggs”) for one person to discover and inherit his entire fortune and corporation. Wade (who goes by the moniker Parzival in OASIS) along with his crush Art3mis, best friend Aech and pals Daito and Sho is determined to find every easter egg in the hunt and his vast knowledge of both popular and obscure pop culture trivia sends him on an amazing journey. Cline sold the book and movie within days of each other in 2010 and serves as the co-screenwriter of the Steven Spielberg adaptation. (We seem to cover a ton of Spielberg on this show!) Are you ready to rock? It’s time to fly your favorite ship to the nearest Stargate towards Sector 10, and get your asses to Chthonia. Before all hell breaks loose, we thought it was the right time to judge the robots that Parzival, Art3mis, Aech and Shoto chose. That’s right, it’s time to dig deep into the powers of each robot, and discuss the age old question: does size matter? Try not to hit the shield around Castle Anorak and get vaporized, because we need to Get To The Good Part!
We’re back for Chapter 32! Yes Gunters, we have materialized at the top of the stairs of Aech’s Basement. But hold on, there’s no time for a quick game of Joust or to flip through your favorite issue of Starlog, because Parzival is here to recap his Hero’s Journey while simultaneously getting the stink eye from Art3mis. Will the (surviving) members of the High Five have FAITH in Parzival and his plan? Will Art3mis forgive Parzival for violating her privacy, or is it beyond HOPE? Of course, we’re still wondering about those 10 zettabytes and just how much data that really is. Get your scrap paper and pencils, and let’s Get To The Good Part! And while you’re at it, show a little CHARITY and rate this podcast on your favorite podcast platform!

Show notes: https://bit.ly/2Hsf6gq Three Week Catch-Up: Robert signs up for library cards at the Cincinnati Public Library and Mason Public Library Nerdy News: Netflix Wants to Buy Its Own Theaters Jenny: "Horrible idea. I would never pay additional money for a movie I could just watch for less at home." Robert: "I think there's potential and promise here. Some TV series nowadays, like Game of Thrones, are such pure spectacles these days with mega-blockbuster Hollywood budgets that they're on par with whatever's released in theaters." Jermaine: "I hate the movie, Mother! It's a total waste of time. I don't even wish I had those two hours back. I just wish those two hours were deleted from my life. Worst movie I've ever seen." Trailer Talk: Incredibles 2 Jenny: "With this trailer it's hitting the mark. It's not pretending to be something it's not. I'm excited! I don't see dads being offended by it. But if they made a movie about a woman going to work and a whole bunch of things going wrong, it'd be a total faux-pas. Five stars." Robert: "This movie feels very Scandinavian to me. I like how the traditional gender roles are reversed-- where the dad needs to stay at home with the kids and the woman is out being the bread-winner. But why am I so okay with the man being made the fool? 4.5 stars." Jermaine: "I think it's because men are in a position of power. That's why it's okay to make fun of them. That's such a good point though. I'm gonna put on my hater-pants and give it four stars." Review: Ready Player One Jenny: "I went in with low expectations but I loved it! There are some plot holes though-- they didn't focus on the outside world. Who grows the food? I liked the CGI. I really like it. One of the best movies I've seen this year. Recommend." Jermaine: "I've seen this movie twice. I'm still unsure where I am. The book was a total homage to the 80s but the movie only has a sprinkling of it. I hated I-R0k in the movie. And the love story between Art3mis and Percival is way cut down in the movie. I felt this movie was a whole bunch of lost opportunities. Still, recommend." Robert: "I've never seen The Shining and was totally lost during that sequence. I totally sympathize with the challenges of adapting a 300-page book into a 2.5-hour movie. I thought it was surprisingly faithful adaption though. Mark Rylance is a total revelation in this. I think his portrayal as an anti-social nerdy nerd is perfect. Recommend." Recommendations: Jermaine loves playing the new God of War-- "It is fantastic. The story and voice-acting is phenomenal. Stop and turn off the podcast, go downstairs to your Playstation, and download God of War. You're welcome." Robert enjoys reading Head On by John Scalzi-- "A lot like the Bruce Willis movie, Surrogates, from a while back. Good world-building, characters, and dialogue." Jenny watches Saiki K--"Just love it. Can't say enough good things about it. It's dubbed and has great character development. It's about a teenage boy in high school who has psychic powers!" Credits: “People who live in glass houses should shut the f--- up.”
Fue The Rolling Stones covereando “Like a Rolling Stone” de Bob Dylan.
Fue The Rolling Stones covereando “Like a Rolling Stone” de Bob Dylan.
