From the moment he was born, Grady Stiles entertained audiences around the United States as the sideshow performer “Lobster Boy.” But behind the scenes, Stiles' life was one of turmoil, alcoholism, and even murder. That all came to an end one night in the fall of 1992, when a killer entered Stiles' Florida home and shot him to death. In the days that followed Grady Stiles murder, investigators quickly unraveled a conspiracy plot to kill Stiles, which had been set in motion by his wife, Mary Theresa, and his stepson, who'd hired a teenage carnival worker to commit the murder. After a lifetime in the spotlight because of his physical deformity, it was Grady Stiles' death that brought him the ultimate fame, but what had he done to earn such a brutal end?Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAllen, William. 1978. Bust out the pancakes, ready for their stolen syrup worth $6 million, as Presley and Andrew discuss this black comedy about a syrup heist. All our Links: https://linktr.ee/seasononepodSeason Spoiler Synopsis: The Sticky is a 2024 Amazon Prime black comedy series based in Quebec, Canada. We follow Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale), a maple syrup farmer who finds her farm under threat as she works tirelessly to keep it going after her husband Martin fell into a coma. The leader of the Quebec Maple Association Leonard Gauthier threatened to close down the farm because technically she is running it, and it's in her husbands name. Remy Bouchard, the QMA's sole security guard, advocates for a bigger security team at the QMA but is rudely shot down by Leonard and his son Leo. Little do they know, Remy and his friend Orval have been stealing one barrel per month and making money on the side in the black market. Mike Byrne is a wannabe mobster who found himself on assignment to house sit for Charlie, his boss, after making a mistake during a heist. Remy has an idea--steal one million dollars worth of syrup from the QMA's stores before they close down the facility after harvest. While out at his birthday dinner, Remy overhears Mike on the phone discussing work when he mentioned a crime family's last name. Remy then approaches Mike with an opportunity: a maple syrup heist. Mike murders Orval to keep the heist contained to people he can trust. In a moment of frustration with Remy's uncertainty about their heist after Orval's murder, Mike puts Remy's blood soaked mittens back in their house to frame Remy. Mike approaches Ruth with an opportunity to join the heist and get some cash to save her farm. A big city cop is called in to investigate the murder of Remy's friend, leading Ruth, Remy, and Mike to race the police to a storage unit where the stolen barrels were being hidden. The group is able to narrowly get the barrels out of the storage unit and save their hides for a little while longer, until Leo introduces Remy to the new head of security at the QMA. Mike plans to kill Gary to resolve their personnel problem, while both Remy and Ruth urge him to be less violent. They agree that Remy will draw Gary out and Mike will just break one of his legs, putting him out of commission long enough to pull of their heist which must take place within a few days. Remy and Gary are checking Gary's traps when they have a heart to heart and Gary decides he'll quit because Remy was slighted by being sidestepped on a promotion. Mike goes off book and tries to shoot Gary dead to solve their problem, which results in Gary beating up Mike and Mike ultimately slipping away. Mike's actions and the unrest in the town attract a member of Mike's crime organization Bo to investigate. Bo interrogates Mike, Ruth, and Remy to uncover what they've been up to and takes over her supposed heist. Bo outs Mike as a screw-up and tells the story of his nickname, Lollipop. While Bo is upstairs chatting with Charlie, Mike, Ruth, and Remy argue loudly. Bo slams her cane into the ground to get them to shut up which snaps it and she flips over the balcony railing, falling to her supposed death. Mike hides Bo's body in a chest freezer in the garage and the next day is questioned by the police, who see some blood on the freezer. They check the freezer to find it empty much to both Mike's relief and dismay. Ruth, Remy, and Mike change their heist plan to steal the syrup via tanker in the middle of the harvest festival instead of doing it overnight. While the QMA festival is taking place and the farmers become aggressive, the crew is stealing syrup. Hearing the chants of the farmers, the crew realizes that they are on their way to the Association to take back their syrup. Ruth acts quickly to syphon some gas and throw a molotov cocktail at the foundation of a building the Association was building, creating a distraction. The crew finishes up and barely makes away with almost two full tanks of syrup while Remy's father is arrested for the murder of Orval and Bo is seen bloodied and bruised approaching Martin's hospital bed.

The Trappist brewery at Orval makes only one beer. A wholly unique creation that is a cross between a saison and an English pale, made even more complex by the addition of Brettanomyces yeast in the secondary. On this episode we drink a 5 year old version, a 6 month old version, and a 2 year old homebrewed approximation of Orval to explore the ways in which the beer evolves as it ages.
Lucy is freshly back from Manchester and talks to Ben about her time there visiting a bunch of different bars and breweries. She’s also played some Geometry Survivor and a little more Modern Warfare 3. Ben breaks out a big boy and drinks Puttty from Verdant whilst Lucy remembered it was Orval day. Another day, another reason why O'Brien's managed to take the top spot in USA Today's Best Beer Bar in America! Today we get into the respect and reverence this San Diego institution has had for Belgian Style beers.
We made it out to Metro in Malmö. They have an interesting tap list but where they excel is their bottle list. They have a wide selection of bottles and cans to choose from. We started with an Orval. This Belgian pale ale is a true classic and just hits right every time you have it. It always makes you wonder why you don't drink it more often. Then we found a real diamond, a 3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek 2016. It's not everyday you see a 7 year-old lambic on a list that isn't crazy expensive. This has aged beautifully. Tart, sweet with notes of cinnamon and cherry. We couldn't have been happier. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #lambic #kriek #belgianpaleale #orval #3fonteinen
Alice woke up in Room 431, where a mysterious creature known as Serpant tells her that the only way to the outside world is to journey through a series on increasingly creepy rooms with surrealist narrative elements before devolving into the dreamscape. Mitchell Orval went viral at a time when the term influencer hadn't even been coined. At 18-years-old he became an internet sensation when he started sharing hilarious pranks he pulled on his dad. A relationship with one of Australia's most popular YouTubers, Chloe Szep, catapulted him into influencer fame. The social media couple were loved for keeping it real and being transparent about their relationship's ups and downs. It was Mitch's most vulnerable confession that earned him the most respect online. In 2020, he revealed he had been battling a secret cocaine habit. Mitch was arguably the most popular Australian male influencer, but what goes up, must come down. The attention seeking posts, come as the couple reveal only 50% of their upcoming retreat has been sold. And this week, UK superstar Harry Styles did a shoey live on stage during his first leg of his Australian tour in Perth. The stunts has sparked warnings that shoeys could give you gastro. Having taken the longest break in the history of the show, Warwick & Tony both travelled the world separately in search of enlightenment and a possible back door to the simulation. Neither was achieved but our heroes didn't let that stop them from returning home and hosting the single most important podcast episode in human history.Joining the boys is a man who has never uttered a word that all of human civilization didn't consider the equivalent of scripture, the legend himself Sam Newman and a man who never loses his temper under any circumstances ever and is known globally as the most rational and calming influence that may have ever existed, the lovable Mark Orval also known ironically as Angry Dad.Indulge yourself in discussion that is far to complex for most of your tiny brains to process while every problem discussed throughout the show miraculously disappears, trust me,look around you, everything is better now.So lubricate your inlets as you are about to have episode 11 of the T-Wiz Podcast inserted, you're welcome.
Orval “Baggie” Hardimon is a legend of the Kokomo music scene. This week, Kyle Long shares rare records released by Hardimon in the 1940s, as well as an unreleased recording from Hardimon's Kokomo home in 1961 featuring the iconic jazz organist, Jimmy Smith. This episode also celebrates the 50th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's “What's Going On” — an album featuring three songs co-written by Indianapolis-born James Nyx, Jr.
Today's guest is the legendary Angry Dad (aka Mark Orval). He got this nickname from a series of viral prank videos that his kids have uploaded online. Mark's reactions to these cheeky pranks are often…well...angry!Mark's story is super interesting. He was an up and coming Aussie rules football star who played 7 games for Collingwood until an extremely unfortunate injury ended his career abruptly and when his sporting dreams were shattered, it catapulted him into 25+ years of depression. By the end of this podcast you're going to be able to appreciate that Mark is not only a stand up bloke with a great sense of humour but he also has a massive heart and life experience that we can all learn from. I love his explanation on the difference between disappointment and regret. Two weeks prior to recording this, Mark had undergone surgery to remove an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He told me that he had been crying every day trying to come to terms with it all and it was very apparent to me that as soon as Mark got into my car, although he's a big strong bloke, everything had happened so quickly and he was still very much processing it all. He had a lot to get off his chest. I felt honoured that Mark was comfortable opening up to me while I took him to and from one of his first checkups after surgery. Special Thank-Q to Angry Dad for being a part of this! If you'd like to see more of him, check out Mark's instagram:https://www.instagram.com/itsangrydadIf you enjoyed today's podCARst or have any feedback for me, please let me know!https://www.instagram.com/darrenlevyofficial
