HI Guysss!! Welcome back:)Today, I sat down with Jesslyn Rollins, the CEO of the company that created the first of its kind, IV in a bottle, BIOLYTE. Her father (an anesthesiologist) and sister started this company when Rollins' mother was diagnosed with breast cancer after witnessing a gap in the hydration market. They created this medical grade hydration drink to supplement nutrients you would get in an IV. BIOLYTE has grown to a be a multimillion dollar company and Jesslyn (& BIOLYTE) have been featured in The Business Journals, Entreprenista, Inc and this one too!, Voyage ATL, and many more!
Embark on a deep-dive into the fundamentals of hydration with hosts Dr. H and Kris Rhea in this episode of the Sports Pharmacy Podcast. We lead off with a discussion about BIOLYTE, a remarkable product developed to counter dehydration effectively. As we explore the importance of hydration for health and recovery, BIOLYTE stands out in its formulation and effectiveness, much-needed qualities in today's high-performance world. In the second part of our discussion, we examine how hydration impacts overall health. The human body is essentially a water-engine, with every organ, cell, and tissue requiring water to function correctly. While this fact isn't overlooked, oftentimes, it's not adequately addressed, leading to health issues ranging from minor ailments like headaches, fatigue, to severe health conditions including heatstroke. Pharmacies and healthcare professionals, hence, play a pivotal role in disseminating knowledge about hydration's importance, especially in high-temperature environments. Imagine being a recent college graduate starting out in your career, when your father tells you about this great product he invented, and asks for your help in building a company around it. BIOLYTE was invented by Jesslyn's father as an "IV in a bottle" to provide much needed rehydration for her mother who was battling breast cancer at the time. With no business background, not only did Jesslyn step in to help bring the product to the public, she has been able to build a multi-million brand with a solid company structure. Jesslyn tells us about her grassroots effort going directly to sports teams to get feedback on the product, experience working with a distributor, a costly mistake she made in promoting her brand online, and how her background in theater helps her to crush it on sales calls! Jesslyn's charismatic personality and engaging story telling made this one of my most favorite interviews so far... listen to see why :-)

Biolyte was created by Dr. Rollins, an Anesthesiologist and Pain Specialist in Atlanta, GA. In 2005, Dr. Rollins' wife, Jeannine, was diagnosed with breast cancer. During her treatment, he began to realize that IV hydration therapy, while extremely effective, is often inaccessible and too expensive to those who need it most – and more accessible options like sports drinks are not as effective for severe dehydration. Dr. Rollins set out to create a product that would “bring the IV bag home”. It was from this need that Biolyte was born. Today we sit down with Jesslyn Rollins, CEO of Biolyte, to hear how their company has grown and is helping everyone from athletes to flu patients to new mothers. For more information about the product or to find local retailers that carry Biolyte head to drinkbiolyte.com.

Colton Marcum, PharmD, took over ownership of Marcum's Pharmacy, from his father, about 10 years ago. Marcum's is a high-volume pharmacy and has a proud tradition of service to the residents of Kingsport, TN, since 1962. Still, as Marcum tells us on this episode of PharmacyCrossRoads the pharmacy's work environment was hectic and constant reductions in reimbursement and DIR fees were taking a big chunk out of his profits. Joining Marcum on this podcast is Kris Rhea, now a representative of BIOLYTE, but formally Marcum's wholesaler representative. The two of them go into some detail on how Marcum saw a need for improved workflow and how, by working with Rhea they made some remarkable changes. Marcum tells how implementing a medication synchronization program improved workflow, reduced inventory and improved relationships with prescribers in the community. To help with a total transformation of the pharmacy Rhea prepared a 12-step plan they used to turn the pharmacy around. First on the list, recognize that pharmacy is changing and the old way of doing things no longer works. One other big thing Marcum and Rhea did was schedule time to visit other successful pharmacies in the area and arrange an onsite visit. A list of the 12 Steps to Revamp and Re-energize Your Pharmacy, is available by emailing Bruce Kneeland at; BFKneeland@gmail.com Marcum says that in addition to improving work flow, pharmacies should also find ways to provide services and sell products that genuinely help people, are unique to them and generate an attractive profit margin. He has had success with nutritional and says one product that has performed well for him is Biolyte. This episode is sponsored by: BIOLYTE, a nutritional drink, sub titled IV in a bottle.
