Bipolar disorder affects approximately 5.7 million adult Americans, or about 2.6% of the U.S. population age 18 and older every year. Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). Jessyln will not only speak about her experience but share a bit about her new book “Fighting Goliath'” which chronicles her experience dealing with the giant in her life, bipolar disorder.

“That journey of self reflection and really being humbled by the business punching you in the face was not something I anticipated. I knew there were going to be hurdles to climb. But actually challenging yourself with ‘I might need to look at myself in the mirror and take a second to reflect on how I can be a better leader' and then actually doing the things that you're fully aware that you need to do.” In this episode of Entreprenista, we sat down with Jesslyn Rollins, CEO of BIOLYTE, a medical-grade hydration drink with as many electrolytes as an IV bag. Today's guest is BIOLYTE CEO, Jesslyn Rollins. Biolyte was invented by Jesslyn's father as an "IV in a bottle". Thirteen years ago, he realized hydration drinks are not effective for severe dehydration. Jesslyn's mom was battling breast cancer and she couldn't keep up with her chemo treatments without getting IV bags because she was so dehydrated. BIOLYTE was created and now provides the medical benefits of an IV bag to many, helping them feel better no matter what they are facing. Jesslyn is leading the company with over $22 million in revenue and drinks in 20000 locations. From sales to marketing plans, Jesslyn has done it all! Jesslyn from Edmonton, AB shares her three pregnancy and birth stories on this episode of Moony Birth Stories. Her first pregnancy came as a surprise to her and her boyfriend (now husband) but they welcomed it with excitement. Jesslyn was very excited to become a mother and looked forward to having her baby, fearlessly. Under the care of an OBGYN, she delivered her first baby in hospital with an epidural and without complication. It wasn't until 8 years later that Jesslyn and her husband decided to have a second child. By this time, Jesslyn was training to be a full spectrum doula and had a lot more knowledge surrounding birth and her options. This time she went with midwifery care and planned a home water birth which turned out to be just as she'd hoped for. She talks about some bleeding issues immediately after this birth due to some retained placenta and how the midwives were able to manage this at home. A year later, Jesslyn got pregnant with their third child and while this pregnancy was much more difficult, she looked forward to having another homebirth under the care of the same midwife that had supported her with her second. Due to some unpredictable circumstances in the day or two after her due date, Jesslyn ended up deciding to transfer to a hospital birth and required an induction. Things went smoothly and though she experienced a lot of bleeding again, it was managed well and postpartum went well.
Imagine being a recent college graduate starting out in your career, when your father tells you about this great product he invented, and asks for your help in building a company around it. BIOLYTE was invented by Jesslyn's father as an "IV in a bottle" to provide much needed rehydration for her mother who was battling breast cancer at the time. With no business background, not only did Jesslyn step in to help bring the product to the public, she has been able to build a multi-million brand with a solid company structure. Jesslyn tells us about her grassroots effort going directly to sports teams to get feedback on the product, experience working with a distributor, a costly mistake she made in promoting her brand online, and how her background in theater helps her to crush it on sales calls! Jesslyn's charismatic personality and engaging story telling made this one of my most favorite interviews so far... listen to see why :-)

Biolyte was created by Dr. Rollins, an Anesthesiologist and Pain Specialist in Atlanta, GA. In 2005, Dr. Rollins' wife, Jeannine, was diagnosed with breast cancer. During her treatment, he began to realize that IV hydration therapy, while extremely effective, is often inaccessible and too expensive to those who need it most – and more accessible options like sports drinks are not as effective for severe dehydration. Dr. Rollins set out to create a product that would “bring the IV bag home”. It was from this need that Biolyte was born. Today we sit down with Jesslyn Rollins, CEO of Biolyte, to hear how their company has grown and is helping everyone from athletes to flu patients to new mothers. For more information about the product or to find local retailers that carry Biolyte head to drinkbiolyte.com.
