Jennifer DeLuca, owner of BodyTonic Pilates Gymnasium in Brooklyn, NY. Jennifer began her Pilates life in 1985 at the esteemed High School for the Performing Arts in New York City. Part of the curriculum was a semester of the Pilates Mat under the tutelage of Nancy Butler. Not exactly wowed by Pilates, Jennifer couldn't have anticipated how her love of dance and movement would intersect with the Pilates method. Joe Pilates said, "A healthy body is your birthright,” but his quote would be tested when Jennifer discovered a lump in her breast and was diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 2020. Learning she had the BRCA gene, Jennifer made the hard decision to have a double mastectomy. So began her journey of isolation, surgeries and chemotherapy. She credits the support of her staff, clients and her own Pilates practice for helping her return to health.Today, Jennifer has no known cancer and she and her business, BodyTonic are thriving. For those who are dealing with any kind of health issue, you may find this interview very inspiring. For our latest Local Selection, we welcome a stalwart of the Irish house and techno scene, Eddie Reynolds, aka Tr One, as the prolific DJ and producer records a jam packed mix full or techno rarities from the golden era. Being no stranger to the Irish scene, Eddie Reynolds aka Tr One is a DJ and producer based in Carlow. A much-respected figure within Ireland's fertile electronic music scene, Reynolds cites the likes of Dublin's D1 Recordings, Kraftwerk and J Dilla as early influences. Equally inspired by vintage sounds of Chicago and Detroit, he started dabbling in production in the early 00s alongside fellow Irish producer, Dean Feeney. Fast-forward over a decade and although the project may now consist of Reynolds only, his dedication to all things house, techno and electro remain unwavering. A prolific producer, Reynolds' sounds has led him to some of his country's most-renowned labels, including Lunar Disko, Apartment, Bodytonic and Pogo. You can find Tr One currently hosting a regular night called 'Rotation', which takes place at the Bernard Shaw in Dublin. In 2021 TR-One has been consistently putting music on Bandcamp and will have a release on a Mexican label shortly. The Dublin producer is also hosting a regular night called rotation in the Bernard Shaw. The Dublin favourite is mixing deeper techno sounds with vintage funky and tribal techno cuts. It's fair to say we share mixes and tunes from music fanatics weekly, but every now and then we come across a DJ whose knowledge and collection of tunes is somewhat unrivalled. Philip Ryan is one of those gems of a selector and DJ. There are tons of music fanatics who don't stomp the social media grounds, but instead have their heads constantly stuck into the music, and for this very reason, it's our absolute pleasure to share some of the gems they unearth and create. Having been mixing and writing about techno for over 30 years, we're humbled to share a Local Selection Mix from Philip Ryan and hear his take on all things tunes. "I've been buying records and writing about techno for almost 30 years; over that time I've played in clubs and events like the Electric Picnic, D1's Model One clubnight, D-Fuse, Genius, Electric City, DEAF festival, Creation beach parties and Bodytonic's Pogo. I only use vinyl to DJ, and like a pretty kinetic mixing style – I also produce, where I'm more focused on my parallel love for ambient and electronica." We highly recommend you follow his SoundCloud where he has a ton of mixes and productions that make for hours upon hours of listening. In the meantime, stick this techno mix on and crank up the volume.
