From Outlaw to Redemption: Ron Gruber's Journey of Faith, Forgiveness, and Freedom   In this gripping and unfiltered episode of Domestic Dad: Cleaning Up The Mess, host Nick Barnett sits down with Ron Gruber, a man whose story is nothing short of miraculous. From an abusive childhood and the violent world of outlaw motorcycle gangs to decades spent in prison, Ron's past is a haunting testament to the darkness that can consume a life. But his journey doesn't end there—through a divine encounter in the woods, Ron found himself at the feet of God, discovering a path to forgiveness, faith, and a life transformed.   For years, Ron was trapped in a cycle of rage, revenge, and regret, serving time for murder and racketeering in some of the toughest prisons in America. It was there, in a solitary cell, that he began to understand the true cost of his choices and the possibility of redemption through Christ. Today, Ron is a man on a mission—sharing his story of radical change to show that no one is too far gone for God's grace.   This episode delves into powerful themes of forgiveness, surrender, and the battle to overcome shame. Nick and Ron discuss the struggle to reconcile with a violent past, the challenge of self-forgiveness, and the relentless love of God that reaches even into the darkest places. If you've ever wondered if God can truly rewrite your story, Ron's testimony is living proof that He can.   ⸻   Key Topics & Timeline:   00:00 — Introduction and Greetings 01:22 — Ron Gruber's Childhood: Abuse, Trauma, and Survival 05:23 — Life with a Motorcycle Gang: Brotherhood or Bondage? 07:26 — First Imprisonment and Gang Life: The Brutal Reality 16:00 — Turning Point and Finding Faith: A Night in the Woods 23:32 — Struggles and Redemption: The Battle for the Soul 33:42 — Obedience and Faith in Adversity: Staying True to God 35:34 — Reconnecting with Family: Healing Broken Relationships 37:00 — Impact of Testimonies: Changing Lives with the Word 38:01 — Struggles with Sin and Redemption: Fighting the Old Self 40:32 — Living in the Word: The Daily Fight for Faith 41:38 — Cleaning Up Life's Messes: Owning Your Story 47:45 — Advice for the Broken: Hope for Those on the Edge 54:09 — Staying Connected to the Spirit: The Power of Prayer 58:05 — Final Reflections and Encouragement: The Road Ahead   ⸻   Why You Should Listen to This Episode:   ✔️ Unfiltered honesty about violence, guilt, and the power of redemption. ✔️ A firsthand testimony of God's ability to transform even the darkest lives. ✔️ Practical advice for those battling shame, regret, and feelings of unworthiness. ✔️ A reminder that no past is too dark for God's light to break through. ✔️ Inspiring insights on the power of forgiveness, both receiving and giving.   If you're struggling to believe that God has a plan for you, or if you're fighting to forgive yourself for what's been done or what you've done—this episode is for you. Somehow we ended up with another zombie romance around Valentine's Day for the second year in a row. Paris chose Rabid Heart for this season after her partner randomly turned to her one day last year and said, “Hey did you realize Jeremy Wagner from Broken Hope is an author?” This piqued her interest since she fondly remembers being at Broken Hope's comeback show at Maryland Death Fest 13 years ago. It's not usually her type of death metal, but something about that show was extra fun and every now and then when she's feeling ignorant and wants some dumb slammy shit, she may put on Grotesque Blessings. When reading for TBC that's kind of peak “I am feeling dumb and also full of rage”, so she listened to a lot of Broken Hope while reading this. Wagner sure has a theme and he's sticking to it! In addition to our usual barnyard language, today's episode includes gore, guns, kidnapping, sexual assault, general violence, weapons, and - of course - zombies. Have you listened to a brutal slam record recently? It's that. Walls separate. Such walls might be physical or emotional or spiritual. They may serve to protect or isolate or divide. They can be helpful or detrimental. There are times to erect a wall and times to break them down. This week we see how a specific wall, referred to as the dividing wall of hostility, is torn down on account of Christ. In a world enthralled with walls of division, we have the opportunity to hear of walls broken and hope spoken. Hope is Here! There is hope for the broken… The next 3 Sundays we will be part of a nationwide movement known as Back to Church Sunday. The official date for Back to Church Sunday this year is September 19th. We want to invite anyone who has been unable to attend, anyone who is search for truth, anyone who is search for hope and meaning in life, anyone who is in need of forgiveness or restoration to join us. Our lives are fragile. In fact, the harder we try to hold it all together on our own the more the cracks begin to appear. The more we can be overcome by the sense that things are falling apart. It is by the grace and mercy and power of God that He can hold it all together for us, if we allow Him. After all, He is the only one who knows exactly how all the pieces fit together. In John 8 there is a woman whose life is not only falling apart but is near the end. Jesus picks up the pieces and restores her. The same restoration and healing are awaiting you. We cannot thank you enough for listening. The greatest help you could provide is to share this with someone in need. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/escape-urself-podcast/support
