1984 - Windham, New Hampshire 1975 - Plantation, Florida When 25-year-old Chris Bird didn't return home after a camping trip in New Hampshire with a friend in July of 1984, alarm bells began to ring. Days later, his car was found abandoned at a nearby mall with a flat tire-Chris was nowhere to be found. Nearly a decade earlier, on New Year's Day in 1975, the Broward County Sheriff's Department in southern Florida received a call from New Hampshire authorities: someone had confessed to a murder in their area. When police arrived at the home, they found 28-year-old George P. Long dead on the floor. Two cases, seemingly unrelated. Different states. Years apart. But when a newspaper article exposed a troubling past, the connections became impossible to ignore—leading investigators to focus on the one person both cases had in common. How did Nickolas Cruz get away with the Parkland Massacre? Cruz was no criminal genius but instead slipped through the cracks. He was able to do this for several reasons. The Chancellor of the Broward County School System was on Obama's pad getting federal grants in return for handling numerous misdemeanors internally rather than having the student arrested. One of those crimes were threats. If the Deputy assigned to the school felt that they did not rise to level of a felony, a purely subjective judgment, they did not have to be reported to the police. The Deputy in this case was Scott Peterson, and the Security Specialist Kelvin Greenleaf determined they did not. This book exposes the fact that a Campus Monitor, whose name or names are revealed for the first time in this book saw Cruz head for the the building in which he carried out his crime, recognized him, noticed he had a backpack and duffel bag but failed to tackle him. It is like that Ad on TV where what appears to be a dentist says You have some of the worst cavities I have ever seen. When asked to fill them he responds "Oh I am just a Dental Monitor. Some have argued the Monitors were not first responders but when this man saw the Miscreant enter Stoneman Dougas through the back door he should have done some thing other than use his walkie-talkie. It exposes the fact that the counselor from Henderson Behavioral Health Jared Bienenfeld, prevented the Miscreant from being Baker Acted, sent for involuntary observation at a mental hospital, because he was a wimpy camp counselor type who put on programs for well behaved Jewish kids. Brittany Jacobs was another one of the Miscreants counselors from Henderson, she was an liberal who had worked for group connected to Obama. She was more interested in LGBT rights. Of course the book goes into the FBI's role in failing to fully investigate lead after lead and the Broward County Sheriff's Office for also ignoring numerous reports that Cruz was going to shoot up Stoneman Douglas High. It examines the role of James Snead who gave the Miscreant a key to the gun safe where his AR-15 was stored. James spoke with the Roxanne Deschamps when he picked up the Miscreant's belongings from her and he spoke with the School Counselor when he tried to get the Miscreant back in Stoneman after he was expelled. Did both these people fail to warn him about how crazy Cruz was. Deschamps threw him out for stashing a shotgun and threatening her son's life. But where this book starts to get interesting is when it comes to Jameson Snead, who convinced his father to take him in. Jameson was on Cruz Instagram page and knew he was psychopathic but didn't tell his father or the police about it. Then there was the do-gooder adoptive mother Lynda Cruz, who knew the Miscreant's bio mother was a junkie and thief but due to her desire to have kids adopted the Miscreant when she was still able to control him. When Miscreant's adoptive father died, the only one in the room was Nikolas, who didn't run and get helped but watched him croak and announced to his mommy "Daddy's dead." On February 14, 2018, an active killer attacked the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida killing 17 people and wounding another 17 people.  The shooter then managed to flee the scene by slipping in with other students.  The shooter was apprehended without incident over an hour later.  In the months and years that followed this incident there was a firestorm of media coverage and legal actions directed at responding law enforcement agencies not only criticizing their response to the incident but also their failure to intervene with the shooter despite numerous red flags that preexisted the incident.  Additionally, a Broward County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer was charged, but acquitted, of child neglect and culpable negligence. There were also more than 50 civil suits filed resulting in millions of dollars in settlements as well as reassignments and resignations in the responding agencies.My guest today is Chief Clyde Parry.  On the day of this incident Clyde was the interim Chief for the neighboring City of Coral Springs Florida and was responsible for setting up the initial incident command post and assuming incident command for the event. Clyde began his law enforcement career with the Derry Borough Police Department near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1986. In May of 1987 he relocated to Florida and began his career with the Coral Springs Police Department where he worked his way up through the ranks from Patrol Officer to Chief of Police. Man, age 29, was taken into custody and accused with vandalizing a monument for victims of a school massacre by placing dead animals on the site. The Broward County Sheriff's Office reports that a crossing guard discovered a dead duck with its chest cavity sliced open on a bench in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Memorial Garden on July 20. According to reports, a dead raccoon was discovered on a school bench the day after, on July 21, and a deputy found a dead opossum on July 31. The Sheriff's Office claims that on July 30 at around 11 p.m., they used security footage to see a white Nissan with black rims drive up toward the memorial. A male driver was spotted getting out of the car and strolling up to the passenger side. It is said that he visited the memorial before leaving in his car. According to the Sheriff's Office, a deputy observed the identical Nissan on July 31 and conducted a traffic stop. Robert Mondragon, the driver, allegedly informed the deputy that he liked "the metal and blood scent that come from the dead animal" when asked why he had feathers and blood on the front passenger side floorboard of his vehicle. The Sheriff's Office claimed they learned that Mondragon had a "disturbing fixation with mass school shootings" after investigating the incident and discovering that he had purposely placed the dead animals on the memorial for the Parkland school shooting. Reportedly, authorities recovered his phone and discovered images of Mondragon holding the dead duck with its breast cavity cut open and an image of a dead raccoon on the floorboard of his vehicle. Police say that "Mondragon's facial tattoos match those of Tate Langdon, the character from 'American Horror Story' based on the Columbine High School shooting." Authorities searching Mondragon reportedly discovered writings and internet searches related to school shootings, methods for breaching steel doors, mass shootings, pipe bombs, and "slang words for killing officers." Mondragon allegedly followed the identical route that the MSD school shooter did on February 14, 2018—from Marjory Stoneman Douglas School to Walmart—two weeks before the end of the 2021-2022 school year. According to the Sheriff's Office, Mondragon was detained and charged with removing or disfiguring a tomb or monument, violating probation for battery and indecent exposure, and violating a risk protection order. Sergeant Glenn Topping served 25 years on the Broward County Sheriff's Department.  He served as a hostage negotiator, bodyguard, organized crime detective and field supervisor.  He was even featured in the inaugural season of COPS!  All of this AFTER serving an MP in the Army and working security in a well known southern Florida nightclub. Sergeant Topping is a very interesting man with lots of stories to share.  We just scratched the surface.  He tells his story of a family of shoplifters and funny chase that ensued.  We discuss a very unique method of transporting an extremely large person. Sergeant Topping also has a few books available.  Two of them are based on his time working as security at the south Florida nightclub and a murder that took place there that affected so many lives.  The list of bands that went through this club back in the day is amazing.  Even Johnny Depp spent many nights performing there in the early days. On December 29, 1960, 8 year old Wendy Stevenson and 9 year old Peggy Rahn became fast friends during a day trip to the beach in Pompano Beach, FL. Around 1 pm, the girls walked down the shoreline, a quarter each in hand, toward a beachfront ice cream stand. Neither girl would ever be seen again.
