I thankfully stumbled upon Bob Burg and John David Mann's powerful book "The Go-Giver" after doing the right thing for a home seller but told by a manager I'd never be successful in real estate if I didn't put the broker's policies ahead of the consumer. I was crushed. Thankfully, the "The Go-Giver" confirms that providing value and authenticity in service to others is the foundation of a powerful business philosophy. And it provided the encouragement I needed to leave the the brokerage, and within 18-months exceeded my 6-figure goal. Join me as my gracious guest Bob Burg explains the book's 5 Laws for Stratospheric Success as we discuss: Making service--not money--the foundation of any business How Realtors can harness the power of The Go-Giver philosophy The danger of a Scarcity mindset The difference between operating on a "competitive plane" vs a "creative plane." How the number of lives you impact by providing significant value will lead to higher compensation Making your win about those you serve "Go-Giver" examples mentioned in this episode: Bruce Waller, Joanna Wiesinger, Jake Jordan, Steve Lester, Laura Agasian, Jake Melton Hope you enjoy this episode--certainly one of my favorite interviews of 2020. And check out his free Go-Giver selling course at www.Burg.com.

Bruce Waller is VP of Corporate Relocation for Armstrong Relocation and Companies. He is the author of the books, Find Your Lane and Milemarkers, and he is a good friend of mine. He recently reached out to me to get coaching advice about how to choose speaking topics and ideas for creating great presentations and slide decks. I asked him if he'd be willing to allow me to record our conversation to share on this podcast. He graciously agreed. The most frequently asked question that I get is, “How do I become a speaker?” While I've written blog posts on the subject, been interviewed on other peoples’ podcasts and shared about the beginnings of my own journey as a professional speaker in this podcast, there's always more to learn. Everyone is at a different place in their speaking career. And no matter where you are in your career, questions are bound to come up. Such was the case for Bruce. My hope is that by listening to our coaching session, you will garner some takeaways of your own. We explore ideas like developing speaking topics to share on a stage in front of an audience, or simply communicating your ideas at work and in life. When does wholesaling bridge on becoming unlicensed activities and when does it become predatory. Should realtors be engaging? Real estate wholesaling occurs when a party (the "wholeseller") contracts with a home seller, markets the home to potential buyers, and then assigns the contract to one of them. The wholesaler makes a profit, which is the difference between the contracted price with the seller and the amount paid by the buyer. The goal in real estate wholesaling is to sell the home before the contract with the original homeowner closes .Joseph C. You may find yourself afraid to spend money or spending most of your money the minute it hits your checking account. While there are certainly emotional components associated with this, most important of all is the mindset you maintain around how you make and spend money. With a scarcity mindset, you'll find yourself always focusing on never having enough. How then do we shift from scarcity to abundance? First, let's discuss what an abundance mindset looks like. As you may have guessed, an abundance mindset is very much the opposite of a scarcity mindset. An abundance mindset keeps in mind every possible favorable outcome for your financial situation while allowing you to be open to each one. Joseph C. About Seth:Seth McColley is all about relationships - building them, cultivating them and sharing them. He understands that we are not defined by the titles we hold or where we land on the org chart, but rather our relationships and how we can serve others. Seth is a firm believer that people are a company's greatest asset. They want to be led, not managed, and that our networks need to be cultivated, not manipulated. We are the sum of all of our experiences. The connections we make and the relationships we build make us the incredible people we are today and that we will become tomorrow. If our network is the lifeblood of our careers, the professional connections that we make will significantly affect the impact of our careers. Seth will be launching his first podcast show, 6 Degrees or Less, on February 4th. The show is focused on the art and power of networking, or "relationshiping" as he calls it. It's connected to the idea, Six Degrees of Separation, that every single one of us is no more than six steps away from being connected to one another.

Raoul Martinez gives a talk for Mansfield College. Writer, artist and award-winning documentarian whose paintings have been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery; author of Creating Freedom: Power, Control and the Fight For Our Future (2016), which explores freedom through the lens of economics, philosophy, political theory and neuroscience and is a call for a better politics. Bruce Waller, a leading voice in the area of freedom and responsibility described Martinez' book, Creating Freedom (2016) as: 'A superb book; it is not only beautifully written, vigorously argued and remarkably researched, it is a unique contribution to a subject - discussed for more than two millennia - where unique contributions are rare indeed. There is nothing in the literature that places the issues of freedom and responsibility in such a broad and enlightening context, enriching familiar debates surrounding punishment and the justice system but also going far beyond. Indeed, the discussion of markets, the media, political and corporate power, and global degradation - in close connection with the undermining of freedom and the damaging effects of belief in moral responsibility - is a singular contribution to these vitally important issues. No one has examined the issues of freedom and moral responsibility in such an extensive and fascinating context, or done more to show that these issues are not ivory tower debates but absolutely life and death issues for individuals and quite possibly for our species.'
