A repeated leak is a system failure.After the 2024 NEET leak, the Radhakrishnan Committee gave roughly 95 fixes — about 60 short-term and 35 long-term — most of them reported as already implemented. Yet NEET-UG 2026 still had to be scrapped, with the Supreme Court itself observing that the agency had not learnt its lesson. When reform is announced but not delivered, the fault is no longer the question paper. It is accountability.2.    Two failures, one diagnosis: a broken gate at entry and at exit.In a single fortnight we saw a paper leak at the entrance gate — NEET — and a marking fiasco at the exit gate — the CBSE Class-12 On-Screen Marking, where students say the scanned answer-sheets do not even match their own handwriting. Fix the architecture; do not merely change the nameplate or burn an effigy.5.    Turn the outrage into engineering — the grievance is legitimate; the despair is not the answer.Equally, demanding accountability is not ‘anti-national.' Genuine dissent and manufactured despair both exist; conflating them is its own danger.

CBSE OSM security flaw exposed; IIT-M steps in for system audit A young ethical hacker, Nisarga Adhikary, has uncovered a serious vulnerability in CBSE's new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, part of its Digital India push. Developed by Hyderabad-based Coempt EduTeck Pvt Ltd, the platform was so poorly secured that unauthorized users could potentially access and alter scanned Class 12 answer sheets. Adhikary reported the flaw to CERT-In on February 25, 2026, but received only a generic acknowledgement and saw no corrective action for months. He eventually went public with the issue in a May 22 blog post, also highlighting institutional apathy. Amid growing concerns over glitches and weak access controls, a team from IIT Madras is now in Delhi conducting a third-party audit of the system. IIT-M director V. Kamakoti said the review will help identify what went wrong and guide fixes. Quad to mobilise $20 bn to strengthen critical minerals supply chain Countering China's tight grip on global supplies of critical minerals, Quad partners India, the US, Australia, and Japan have signed a framework to mobilise up to $20 billion to strengthen supply chains across mining, processing, and recycling. “The Quad partners intend to support the development of secure critical minerals supply chains, which are essential for advanced technologies, economic growth, and the resilience of our industrial bases,” a statement on the `Quad critical minerals initiative framework' issued by the MEA on Tuesday said. The four countries intend to work together to use economic policy tools and coordinated investment to accelerate the development of diversified and fair critical mineral markets and support the supply of critical minerals that are crucial to our region's economic growth and security, it added. The district has renamed the project the Grice Adair Center for Educational Excellence—a name that never appeared on the ballot—and the original CBSE no longer shows up in the new bond update. The district's website now redirects CBSE searches to a “Website Under Construction” page, with old documents scrubbed away.Why the sudden erasure? After a civil rights complaint last year, the district rushed to strip the project of its name and racial identity. In 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that segregating school children by race was unconstitutional. As a result, districts across America spent the rest of the century integrating schools.In Portland, though, segregation is back in vogue. A group called Albina Vision Trust began promoting the idea of a Center for Black Student Excellence (CBSE) in the summer of 2020 and persuaded the Portland Public School Board (PPS) to set aside $60 million for that concept in its $1 billion construction bond that voters approved a few months later.Five years later, none of the $60 million has been spent because advocates have never been able to explain how one single building would advance Black excellence in a district serving more than 40,000 students spread over 152 square miles. A recent Oregonian editorial asked the same question, asking “how this center will finally help the district advance student achievement.”Nonetheless, the PPS Board has announced a plan to buy a new building in North Portland for the CBSE. No details are available, but the purchase will be discussed by the Board at its next meeting on September 9.In the famous 1954 Supreme Court ruling in Brown v. School Board of Topeka, Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote for a unanimous Court that, “in the field of public education, the doctrine of ‘separate but equal' has no place.” But PPS no longer cares about equality. The new goal is “equity.” Just don't ask them to explain it.
