However, when it comes to quantitative studies, some remain uncertain about its role in interpreting the data. On the 37th episode of Enterprise Software Innovators, hosts Evan Reiser (Abnormal Security) and Saam Motamedi (Greylock Partners) talk with Saket Srivastava, CIO of Asana. Asana is a leader in project management platforms, allowing teams to stay organized, communicate effectively, and achieve their project goals efficiently. Asana has more than 130,000 customers in over 200 countries across the globe. In this conversation, Saket reflects on the dynamic role of AI in business, strategic considerations informing technology adoption, and how enterprises can best embrace the digital frontier.Quick hits from Saket:On the hype vs. reality of AI: “Gen AI might be overhyped in the shorter term, but in the longer term, it might actually be underhyped. The possibilities with Gen AI are something we are just beginning to understand. We're still scratching the surface, I think this is still the preview that we're seeing.”On the current role of CIOs: “As CIOs, our work is more about being a business leader, being that business strategist, being that business architect who's able to connect the dots across the company. And it's important that we're able to sort of drive conversations and drive strategy for the company.”On identifying meaningful AI use cases: “One was this notion again around a copilot for our go to market teams, who need to do research around our prospects and customers. There's a ton of that research and Gen AI is perfect to kind of do that on their behalf. So, Gen AI could create a cheat sheet for them."Recent Book Recommendation: The Ideal Team Player by Patrick Lencioni--Like what you hear? Who cleans up and rebuilds our communities after floods, fires, and hurricanes? COVID redefined America's definition of “essential workers,” but many who help communities recover from climate disasters remain underpaid and overlooked. In 2006, labor organizer Saket Soni got an anonymous call from an Indian migrant worker in Mississippi who had scraped together $20,000 to apply for the “opportunity” to rebuild oil rigs after Hurricane Katrina. The caller was only one of hundreds lured into Gulf Coast labor camps, surrounded by barbed wire, and watched by armed guards. Since then, the frequency and intensity of climate-related disasters has only increased – and disaster recovery has become big business. What are the reasons, the first principles against which you are making a decision on how you want to operate? Everything that follows after that has to support that vision.“Technology can only take you so far. There's a whole lot of innovation that cropped up even before the pandemic, and obviously through the pandemic. But that human connection is just so important. If you've been in a place where you've kept most of your workforce remote, it's still very important to find opportunities to get people together.”“As a CIO, what's important to me and my organization is how we create experiences for people where they can do their deep work when they need to do the deep work. And then provide them with tools and platforms to engage with teams and with people in the most productive way.”“The way I think of security? Security is everyone's problem. In 2006, just after Hurrincan Katrina, hundreds of Indian workers were lured to the United States with false promises of a green card and forced to work under grueling working conditions at a shipyard in Mississippi. It would become one of the largest human trafficking schemes in U.S. history. When one of those workers called labor organizer Saket Soni for help, it set off an epic chain of events that led him to engineering their escape from the work camp and set them off on a path to citizenship. We sit with Saket Soni, author of 'The Great Escape: A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams in America' as he recounts their heroic journey for justice. Join Saket Soni and Naomi Klein for a launch event for The Great Escape: A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams in America. ———————————————————————————————————————————————— Saket Soni, a Delhi-born labor organizer, was in his late 20s and working in New Orleans when he began to receive mysterious calls from inside a heavily guarded Mississippi work camp. He knew immediately that the callers were in crisis. But he could not have imagined they were caught up in one of the largest human trafficking schemes in modern US history. In his new book, THE GREAT ESCAPE: A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams in America, Soni tells the stunning story of five hundred Indian workers who were held in those camps, their escape, and the years-long campaign for justice that followed—a fight Saket Soni engineered. Bringing to light the invisible migrant workforce that rebuilds after climate disasters, The Great Escape reveals the government and corporate corruption fueling a hidden struggle at the intersection of climate change, racial justice, and immigration. For this launch event, Soni will be joined by internationally renowned author and activist Naomi Klein, to discuss migration policy in the U.S., the reality of twenty-first century trafficking, and the true costs of climate catastrophe. What if a call in the middle of the night from a stranger changed your life forever? Author, activist, and founder and director of Resilience Force, Saket Soni, was in New Orleans working as a community organizer, when he got a call from an Indian man who was being held in a labor camp. So what would you do if you agreed to meet this man, but when you arrived it wasn't one man, it was ONE HUNDRED men? Would you turn around, daunted by the idea of helping that many people? Or would stay and eventually lead 500 men to freedom? Today on the show — a special presentation of a live conversation between Saket Soni and Rebecca Solnit on Saket Soni's new book, The Great Escape: A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams in America. The Great Escape is the harrowing story of how 500 disaster relief workers from India were trafficked to the United States under false pretenses and exposed to inhumane conditions while rebuilding New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Rebecca Solnit has described the book as being “paced like a thriller, written like a poem, and full of vivid characters who'd enliven any novel, but it's the true story of one of the largest modern-day trafficking incidents in recent history and how Saket Soni and his crew went after the powerful perpetrators. A story as important as it is riveting to read.” Saket Soni is the co-founder and executive director of Resilience Force, the national voice of the resilience workforce — whose labor helps us prepare for, and repair after, climate disaster. He will be in conversation with renowned author Rebecca Solnit, who wrote, A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster — a book that inspired the creation of this show and which we've talked about many times in past episodes. This conversation is a recording of a live event co-organized with The Green Arcade in San Francisco on March 3rd. The Green Arcade is a bookshop featuring socially conscious nonfiction, plus select literature & kids' titles, located on Market St. Episode credits: Live recording and editing by Robert Raymond Executive production and hosting by Tom Llewellyn Theme Music: “Meet you on the other side” by Cultivate Beats Make sure to follow The Response on Twitter and Instagram for updates, memes, and more. “THE GREAT ESCAPE: A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams in America” tells the story of one of the largest human trafficking schemes in modern American history and how the traffickers were finally held to account. Saket Soni was the co-founder of The New Orleans Workers Center for Racial Justice in the post-Katrina years. Today he's the founder and director of Resilience Force, a project that comes directly out of his experience working with the men in this book. The U.S. is experiencing a labor shortage, and climate catastrophe will increase the need for disaster recovery workers. How can we build the resilient workforce we need, with the rights and equity workers deserve? Join Laura and Saket for this urgent conversation on the future of labor.“The workers in this book, though I didn't know it at the time, were the first of a growing workforce that I call the resilience workforce. Workers who rebuild after hurricanes, floods, fires, and other disasters. As climate change has proceeded . . . this workforce has grown and it's still largely immigrant, largely undocumented and very vulnerable.”"What we are really trying to do at Resilience Force is build this million-strong, massive, skilled workforce. We need to rebuild American cities, but also build a new social fabric in America."Guest:Saket Soni: Author, THE GREAT ESCAPE: A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams in America; Founder & Director, Resilience Force The Show is listener and viewer supported. The language that is used to talk about immigrants in America is something that really bothers Chris. A common and unproductive trope that's heard in media is “a flood of immigrants to the border.” At the same time, there is a growing dependance at the foundational level on the labor of immigrants in the U.S. As natural disasters are happening with increasing frequency and intensity, communities are relying more and more on immigrant laborers. Saket Soni is director of Resilience Force, a national initiative that advocates on behalf of disaster recovery workers. He's also author of the upcoming book, “The Great Escape: A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams In America.” The subject of the story starts when Soni, who was 28 years old at the time, received an anonymous phone call from an Indian migrant who told him about incredibly inhumane worker conditions at a labor camp in Mississippi. The extraordinary journey that follows is told in the fascinating read about how Soni and 500 workers devised a bold plan, after a series of clandestine meetings, to escape and bring attention to their cause in Washington, D.C. He joins WITHpod to discuss writing about one of the largest human trafficking cases in modern American history, his deeply personal story coming to the U.S. from India, the importance of a well-protected skilled resilient workforce, rebuilding social fabrics around this topic and more.

1378 - Creating Freedom of Time with Impact Wealth Builders' Saket Jain
Adversity is guaranteed, and it's just a matter of what gifts we receive from going through that adversity and how we train ourselves to be prepared. In this episode, Saket Jain will enlighten listeners to condition their minds for continued and ongoing success and constant and never-ending improvement. Listen as Saket explains how essential it is to shift our mindset. Overcome and immerse ourselves in the gifts—the tremendous gifts and the tremendous opportunities that come from adversity. What will stick with you is when Saket mentions, “It's less about the mechanics, it's more about the mindset.” Don't miss this! Key Points from This Episode: Saket shares how he started in real estate. Shifting mindset from “Why me and why now?” to “Why not me and why not now?” Saket talks about how the world affects his financial trajectory, which impacts his family, himself, and everyone else. Saket shares how shifting mindset is also self-reflective and pauses. How can people integrate into their daily practice or rituals of self-reflection and building muscle memory? Saket talks about the stereotypes about adversity and how to get out of that. These days, the word “adversity'' is harmful in general. Find growth: If we train our minds over time at that moment, we can go back to our training and fall to the level of our training. Adversity challenge as a gift. How setting yourself a timeline can also be a mental check. How do accountability partners and coaches come in on your stressful situations? A meta habit: Bringing the unconscious to the conscious. How do we remember it when things are not going how we want them to be? What is neurolinguistic programming? Saket talks about how messed up his first deal was. Tweetables: “The only thing I would add to that is everything that we do, It's purpose driven” – Saket Jain “The problem, I think, is that most of us don't pause and we don't self-reflect, and we don't have a mechanism or the muscle to go back to the time.” – Saket Jain “Do it when everything is going well.” – Saket Jain “It's the moments of adversity that grew the most. When everything is going well, you're not growing.” –Saket Jain “Even if you have trained your mind, sometimes, it's like we forget that adversity is the greatest opportunity.” —Tyler Chesser “Build a habit of every one hour, regardless of what's happening in your life. To take a two second pause on whatever is happening, and remind yourself that you're thankful to be alive.” - Saket Jain “So if you want a certain action, you gotta change your thoughts.” - Saket Jain Links Mentioned: Impact Wealth Builders Website Impact Wealth Builders Facebook Impact Wealth Builders Instagram Saket Jain LinkedIn Elevate with Tyler Chesser Website CF Capital Website About Saket Jain #1 bestselling author, investor, syndicator, tech enthusiast, and philanthropist Saket Jain is the Founder and CEO of Impact Wealth Builders where he's passionate about achieving financial freedom through real estate. When not investing or working, Saket loves time with his wife of 19 years and two daughters.
After leading a successful upward career in tech, Saket Jain found himself suddenly “downsized” by his employer. After a few months of stumbling through shock, wondering about reasons why and financial terrors, Saket flipped the script of his interior monologue from “Why me?” to—“Why not me?” and “Why not now?” Like many successful people, Saket had been trained to work not for himself, but for someone else. Graduating from IIT, India's best engineering school, and receiving an MBA from Columbia Business School were merely stepping stones for high paying jobs. But not necessarily for a high paying future. Saket had to actually retrain his brain from fear-based to achieve a new sense of positive forward momentum. He realized that his investments were passive income rather than active cash flow. After flipping his script, Saket flipped his investment strategy to successfully build a portfolio of over 2000+ units and financial freedom for himself and his family. Now Saket wants to help others do the same. Saket's mental mindframe, his persistence and willingness to change, and his attitude towards it all have drastically helped him achieve the success that he has today. Today, he shares with his how he did it all and came off such such a huge loss with such a massive victory... If you struggle at all with the battle of your mind when it comes to changing your life forever with real estate, this is absolutely an episode you won't quickly forget!
