We kick off our exploration with ike's fascinating dive into the true stories that inspired its chilling narrative – including the dark past of Denver's Cheesman Park and the unsettling experiences of Russell Hunter. Prepare to be intrigued as we uncover the unsettling real-life events that laid the groundwork for this iconic horror film. We'll then plunge into a detailed analysis of "The Changeling," celebrating its mastery of the haunted house genre and George C. Our critique doesn't shy away from the film's flaws; we discuss everything from the occasionally lackluster special effects to the unrealistic police procedures that sometimes pull you out of the story. Yet, it's the film's clever use of horror tropes and timelessly creepy moments that keep us endlessly fascinated.Wrapping up, we highlight the film's most memorable elements, such as the sinister wheelchair scenes and the suspense-filled seance. We delve into the stellar sound design that amplifies the film's chilling atmosphere and discuss George C. Scott's dedication to his role, offering exclusive insights that even seasoned fans might not know. Whether you're a horror aficionado or a newcomer to this genre gem, our conversation promises fresh perspectives and a deeper appreciation for "The Changeling." This week we are reviewing one of Indy's childhood favourites, the Canadian cult classic horror movie The Changeling! We discuss the structure of haunted house movies, the clever direction, tension building, grief, and what we want done with our corpses. Scott, Trish Van Devere, and Melvyn Douglas. Its plot follows an esteemed New York City composer who relocates to Seattle, Washington, where he moves into a mansion he comes to believe is haunted. The screenplay is based upon events that writer Russell Hunter claimed he experienced while he was living in the Henry Treat Rogers mansion in the Cheesman Park neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, in the late 1960s; Hunter served as a co-writer of the film. Mount Prospect Cemetery was one of Denver's very first cemeteries. They opened it with hopes and dreams that Denver's wealthy and influential would rest here for eternity. Soon though all that are being buried are outlaws, criminals and the poor. It is then converted from a cemetery to a park. Thanks to a corrupted and greedy undertaker Edward McGovern, not everyone is buried elsewhere. When you go to the beautiful park today you are also visiting a cemetery as many bodies remain here to this very day.

Denver has always been home to revolutionary movements — Chicano civil rights, disability justice, and the fight for LGBTQ+ equality have all played out here across decades. For each of those movements, geography plays an important role, like Capitol Hill, where queer people found refuge, support, and community. Ahead of PrideFest this weekend, host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi join comics artist and historian B. Erin Cole on a walking tour of Cap Hill, as seen through a queer historical lens. B. Erin has researched and illustrated a map with markers from the State Capitol to Cheesman Park — but it's the flipped homes, demolished buildings, and long-gone bars in-between that tell the deeper story of the neighborhood's vibrant LGBTQ+ history. B. Erin Cole's illustrated map of queer Capitol Hill can be found as part of History Colorado's Rainbows and Revolutions exhibit, on view now. Find more of B. Erin's work here. The Changeling (1980) The Canadian supernatural horror film from 1980; its plot follows an esteemed New York City composer who relocates to Seattle, where he moves into a mansion he comes to believe is haunted. The screenplay is based upon events that writer Russell Hunter claimed he experienced while he was living in the Henry Treat Rogers mansion in the Cheesman Park neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, in the late 1960s. The film also features Melyvn Douglas also in our book to screen episode Ghost Story. The film won eight inaugural Genie Awards, including Best Motion Picture, and was nominated for two Saturn Awards. It is considered one of the best horror films of all time, and one of the most influential Canadian films of all time. The Fog (1980) The John Carpenter's supernatural horror film would put mother and daughter scream queens in a film together in the form of Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis. It tells the story of a strange, glowing fog that sweeps over a small coastal town in California, bringing with it the vengeful ghosts of mariners who were killed in a shipwreck there 100 years before. A novelization of the movie, written by Dennis Etchison, was published by Bantam Books in January 1980. The novel clarifies the implication in the film that the six who must die were not random but in fact descendants of the six original conspirators. The film has a guest star appearance by John Houseman who also features in our book to screen film this month Ghost Story. Every cemetery is unique. Each has its own unique character based on location. Sometimes it is the landscape that is different. Other times, it is the local culture or customs. But truthfully, it is the personalities buried within that define the true character. We have featured over seventy haunted cemeteries around the world in the past six years. After compiling a list, we realized that there were several states, thirteen to be exact, that have not been included yet and on this episode we will rectify that by including several of those. On this episode, we have China Grove Cemetery in Arkansas, Friendship Cemetery in Mississippi, Mount Moriah Cemetery in Montana, Little Egypt Cemetery in Indiana and Cheesman Park in Colorado. The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Rick Kennett and features the Springthorpe Memorial and This Month in History features the Knights Templar officially recognized. McGovern things started to go terribly wrong. Glenys Heyward disappeared from her home in Mt Gambier, Victoria, in July, 2007. Almost three years later her son, Matthew Reginald Wills Heyward, and and farmhand Jeremy Adam Minter were convicted of her murder.

August 2, 2019 /1:59 pm /39.731833, -104.987887 / Cheesman Park / In 1858 General William Larimer created the Mt. Prospect Cemetery on land that still legally belonged to the Arapaho tribe / In 1861, under the Treaty of Fort Wise, the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes were pressured to cede most of their land, including all of present day Denver, in order to make room for white settlers who were arriving as part of the gold rush / By 1890 the cemetery had fallen into disrepair and the city planned to turn it into a park / Families were given 90 days to move the bodies of their loved ones who had been buried there, but few came / The city hired an undertaker to dig up the bodies and place them into new coffins to be reburied elsewhere / Since he was paid by the coffin, the undertaker quickly realized he could distribute one set of bones out amongst several coffins, along with some extra dirt, and receive two or three times as much money for the work of unearthing each body / The city canceled his contract and began construction of Cheesman Park in 1894 with an estimated 2,000 bodies still buried underneath that still remain today / In the 1910s my great grandmother Katharine Constant lived just a few blocks away from the park in a large house with her family / She wrote letters every day to her fiancee who was finishing his degree in Illinois / In this recording I walk along the east side of the park and read a letter she wrote in September 1914 after walking through the same part of the park //
