Happy Holidays everyone. We have a special Christmas Bonus episode of the NCS Podcast! A few years ago Mark interviewed Chamberlain (aka Split Lip) for his other podcast the HMNI Fanzine Podcast. We decided to republish it on the NCS Podcast since we are now interviewing people who aren't necessarily from Buffalo. Chamberlain is one of Marks favorite bands and they were definitely a staple of the 90's hardcore/emo scene. Enjoy this interview that Mark conducted from 2022 with Curtis and David which looks back at their career. This was done ahead of the reunions that they played in April of 2022. Enjoy. In this special Christmas Bonus episode of our podcast we are loosely tying into our Black Christmas operations by way of talking about an action movie set at Christmas, but most importantly, we are tying into one of the foremost movie Christmas traditions out there. We are talking about Die Hard! Over the course of our amazing chat you will hear us recount the oral history of how this movie was made, how Die Hard changed the action movie narrative and reinvented the canonical action hero to make him fit for the 90s. We also talk about Bruce Willis as a funny everyman, the many instances of levity Die Hard is peppered with, the iconic lines and unforgettable scenes and we also discuss just how soulful and tightly knit this movie is. Step back in time this Friday with Vintage Classic Radio's holiday edition of "Friday Night Noir," featuring two captivating tales of suspense and mystery perfect for the festive season. Our night begins with "The Whistler" in the chilling episode "Christmas Bonus," originally aired on December 21, 1952. In this gripping story, an unexpected holiday bonus becomes the catalyst for a dark plot of deceit and danger, leaving listeners on the edge of their seats. The episode stars Bill Forman as the ominous Whistler, with supporting performances by Marvin Miller, Betty Lou Gerson, and William Conrad, who bring this thrilling narrative to life. Following "The Whistler," we delve into the eerie world of "Lights Out" with the episode "Uninhabited," also known as "Christmas Story 1918," which first aired on December 22, 1937. This haunting tale set during the bleak backdrop of World War I, explores the supernatural occurrences faced by two soldiers stranded in a deserted house on Christmas Eve. The chilling atmosphere is masterfully crafted by Arch Oboler's storytelling, with performances by Frank Martin as the narrator and Bill Johnstone and Charles Seel playing the beleaguered soldiers, delivering a spine-tingling experience that embodies the spirit of holiday ghost stories. Join us for these classic radio dramas that promise to add a touch of noir to your holiday cheer. Tune in to Vintage Classic Radio this Friday night and immerse yourself in the suspenseful, shadowy corners of "Friday Night Noir."
Support Breaking Walls at https://www.patreon.com/thewallbreakers At 9PM on Monday, December 25th, 1944, The Whistler, broadcast from KNX, went on the air over CBS' regional West Coast Network. The Whistler's narration acted as a modern version of the Greek chorus, omnisciently taunting the characters. The narrator proved so popular that it was adapted into eight film noirs by Columbia Pictures between 1944 and 1948. Whistler radio dramas were usually told through the perspective of the guilty person. His or her guilt is never in doubt, and there's always a strange twist at the end. Since it was Christmas Night, this episode “Christmas Bonus,” instead has a positive twist at the end for the main character.

Each episode of The Whistler began with the sound of footsteps and a person whistling.[1] (The Saint radio series with Vincent Price used a similar opening.) The haunting signature theme tune was composed by Wilbur Hatch and featured Dorothy Roberts whistling with an orchestra.[2] A character known only as the Whistler was the host and narrator of the tales, which focused on crime and fate. He often commented directly upon the action in the manner of a Greek chorus, taunting the characters, guilty or innocent, from an omniscient perspective. The stories followed a formula in which a person's criminal acts were typically revealed either by an overlooked but important detail or by the criminal's own stupidity. An ironic ending, often grim, was a key feature of each episode. But on rare occasions, such as "Christmas Bonus" broadcast on Christmas Day 1944, the plot's twist of fate caused the story to end happily for the protagonist.
In this episode, our hosts welcome Dr. Rhonda Cotton and Chaka Balamani. Dr. Cotton, a multi-talented CEO and mentor, shares her faith journey and discusses her media and film production work, including her upcoming Great and Grand Foundation. Chaka Balamani, a filmmaker passionate about youth advocacy, talks about his impactful films addressing teen issues and his recent project, "A Christmas Bonus." The conversation emphasizes the significance of spiritual growth, finding purpose, and supporting disadvantaged youth through advocacy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

STEVE HATCHER & ANDREW-MARK THOMPSON join me to chat about DOCTOR WHO's SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. A VISION ON SOUND CHRISTMAS BONUS EXTRA EPISODE Here's a bit of a Christmas Bonus for you… After the DOCTOR WHO SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY SPECIALS (THE STAR BEAST, WILD BLUE YONDER, and THE GIGGLE) were shown on television for the first time, that pair of regular contributors to VISION ON SOUND, STEVE HATCHER and ANDREW-MARK THOMPSON from the DERBYSHIRE WHOOVERS, suggested we get together to talk about those, and the sixtieth anniversary as a whole, so that's what we did. Unfortunately, however, there wasn't a free slot in the schedule between our recording dates and the release of the brand new DOCTOR WHO episode launching the NCUTI GATWA era on CHRISTMAS DAY, so we agreed to pop this one out as a bonus edition and what I hope is a little extra festive treat. Though please don't forget to listen to the regular Sunday Evening edition that was broadcast on Christmas Eve. Happy Christmas.
