Improve access and delivery of language services by advancing the Language Access Expansion Act. Provide greater support to families and children through the passage of the Working Families Tax Credit Act. In part two of our report, speakers focus on the need for legal representation for immigrants facing deportation, especially with Donald Trump as President. We hear from Assembly Member Catalina Cruz; Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal; Senator John Liu; Silvia from the Community Resource Center; and Assemblymember Tony Simone.

The Rare Disease Advisory Council, (RDAC) has passed in at least 25 states so far.  This is a bi-partisan effort to give voice to people and their families who are living with a rare disease.  We're talking about 7 thousand plus rare diseases, which include cystic fibrosis. The RDAC would be housed in Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The Bonnell Foundation, along with MichBio, National Organization of Rare Disorders, RDII and a coalition of rare disease advocates (in Michigan)  have been working to get the RDAC passed for years.  A broad overview: In 2020 the RDAC began as Bill 5465, and didn't make it very far.  Then in 2021 the coalition, The Bonnell Foundation, RDII, NORD and Dr. Rapundalo of MichBio our bill sponsor, Representative Cara Clemente, attempted to get Bill 4654 passed, but it didn't make it through the Senate Health Policy Committee due in part to some misunderstanding about the RDAC.  Our thanks to Rep. Clemente for getting us started. The bipartisan bill, 4167, got new life when Rep. Jason Morgan became the bill's sponsor. A first time Representative, Jason Morgan has come with enthusiasm, knowledge, and his personal story of life with Becker's Muscular Dystrophy. We're very hopeful this bill will pass the Senate Health Policy committee in the Fall, continue to the entire Senate, and get to the Governor's desk to be signed. The appropriation for this bill is $200,000.RDAC will simply give us a voice. In this episode, Alex discusses the contradictions that are present in this current economy. A recent report shows that more jobs were added in November than expected and wages rose by close that 5.1%. However, this is not the full story because other issues such as inflation and rising employment costs have made some worry that a recession is coming. Next, Alex talks about how Elon Musk has eroded Twitter's legitimacy and has opened the floodgates to extremism. He discusses how keeping Nick Fuentes and Kanye West off the platform is good; however, more mainstream nutjobs like Paul Gosar and Marjorie Taylor Greene remain popular. Alex argues that the GOP has an extremism problem of its own making and Musk only made it worse by buying Twitter and bringing racism and hate back to the platform. Finally, Alex discusses fears in Israel over a new coalition that the Likud party, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, has formed with far-right groups. These groups are homophobic, and nationalist, and do not align with the majority of Israelis' views. This coalition also has individuals that consider expanding settlements in the West Bank a necessity and will prevent investigations into Netanyahu's illegal activities. The mayor of Tel Aviv has expressed concerns that the country could fall into a far-right theocracy. 

Jackie Bouvier, one of the leaders of the Hispanic Coalition for Heidi Ganahl explains why Latinos are shifting political allegiances to the right. A reporter on MSNBC laughably says there is no proof that Hunter Biden was trading on his family name by earning millions from foreign countries like China and Ukraine.

Premier Daniel Andrews has refused to say how much he believes the first two stages of the Suburban Rail Loop will cost, handballing the issue to his deputy. The police union has drawn up a raft of sweeping reforms it wants both political parties to sign up to ahead of the November state election. By secretly assuming control of multiple portfolios Scott Morrison breached the Coaltion agreement and may now face an investigation for contempt of parliament. Labor is blaming the Coalition for a surge in the cost of energy, which could see some households and small businesses pay up to 18.3% more for power next year. The cost of wholesale power has risen more than 140% in the last 12 months, prompting the Australian Energy Regulator to increase tariffs by between 8% and 18% NSW, QLD and SA.

Louisville officials closed another homeless camp last week, continuing a string of camp shutdowns as the city struggles to find solutions for its homeless population. There were more people experiencing homelessness in Louisville last year according to a count by the nonprofit Coaltion for the Homeless. That count reported 6986 homeless people between October 2017 and September 2018 — a 4 percent increase from what they counted the year before. The city has worked to find solutions, commissioning a five-month study to find proposals and putting more than $500,000 towards low-barrier shelters and item storage. We talk with advocates and officials about homelessness and what challenges they face in addressing it.
