Kristina credits their support network, both professionally and personally, as a major factor in the success of the model. A major turning point for Kristina's team was realising that merely adding more staff was not enough to improve operations. Facing operational chaos and the growing complexity of prescriptions, Kristina introduced a "digital basket" system to balance digital, paper, and vaccination requests. This idea prompted a shift from reactive problem-solving to a more visionary approach. Kristina sought the expertise of industry professionals to identify the right technology partners, and while initially facing resistance from developers, achieving even partial success was seen as a significant victory. Kristina advocates for starting rather than waiting for a perfect plan. They believe that large corporations often become paralysed by decision-making, whereas their Pharmacy embraced an iterative approach, launching a version one and refining it based on real-world feedback. Kristina also discusses how this approach applied to the development of the Complete Care Pharmacy model, emphasising the importance of risk-taking, continuous improvement, and teamwork in driving innovation within Pharmacy practice. Effective communication is another key theme Kristina explores in leadership. By engaging all team members in the process of change, from delivery drivers to senior partners, they facilitated a smoother transition to the new Pharmacy model. Activities such as fun team events, open discussions, and regular check-ins helped ensure ongoing feedback and fostered team morale. Kristina's approach to communication included structured input from staff, such as "Shark Tank"-style pitch sessions, which allowed for innovation-driven decisions within the team. Kristina's passion for reshaping community Pharmacy extends to their vision for a patient-centred approach that moves away from a volume-driven model. They believe that providing accessible, affordable healthcare and fostering happier Pharmacists are integral to improving patient outcomes. With the rise of automation and AI in Pharmacy practice, Kristina highlights the importance of emotional intelligence and effective communication in maintaining strong relationships within Pharmacy teams and with patients. Thomas McDowell is a 4th generation Community Pharmacist and owner of McDowell's Pharmacy in Scotland Neck, NC and Rocky Mount Medical Park Pharmacy in Rocky Mount, NC.  McDowell's Pharmacy has been owned and operated by the McDowell family for over 100 years. Thomas purchased Rocky Mount Medical Park Pharmacy in 2021 to bring his passion for empathetic patient care and personalized service to the Nash County area.   Over the years, Thomas has seen an increased need for in-home care, especially for his pharmacy patients, which is why he has branched into the home care service industry.  Their patients trust them for the highest level of customer care and Thomas will continue to provide this superior service in the home care setting. So many families today do not know where to turn when it comes to senior care.  There are many incredible facilities in the community but often the loved one desires to stay in their home.  Loved ones may need help with medication management, doctor's appointments,  taking care of their homes, or daily chores.  Thomas has seen this need and is committed to helping families and their loved ones maintain their independence for as long as possible.  Happier at Home – Eastern North Carolina will allow them to provide in-home care for seniors and the disabled, as well as comprehensive geriatric care management. Thomas currently volunteers with numerous groups including CPESN-NC, Area L AHEC, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Eastern Advisory Committee, and Scotland Neck Rising, a non-profit dedicated to economic revitalization and historic preservation.  He is happily married to his wife, Blaine, and has two beautiful children, Press and Mary Hayes.

Users of long term prescription medication say they feel like their lives are being messed with amid the current medicine shortages. There are currently 216 medicines running low or out of stock in Ireland. They include common over-the-counter remedies like dry cough syrups, sore throats sprays and lozenges. On today's episode I am thrilled to feature Shilpa Patel on the podcast. Shilpa has spent most of her career in as a Community Pharmacist. After well over a decade of endless hours of hard work and feeling under valued and frustrated within her role, she walked out of the pharmacy on her lunch break and never looked back! She wanted to take a break from pharmacy and decided to travel to India for a few months to think about her next steps and enjoy a much needed break. Before she left for her travels, she applied for a GP Practice Role alongside 400 other candidates. There were only 4 positions available and she was doubtful that she'd be offered the position. In her mind, she thought that hospital pharmacists would be more likely to get offered the position as their clinical knowledge was far superior to a community pharmacist. Boy was she wrong! She was offered the job and later realised that community pharmacists are extremely valuable assets to a GP Practice and their skillset, knowledge and experience are perfect for these roles. She now has over 6 years of experience as a GP Practice Pharmacist and has hired multiple pharmacists to join her team. She has utilised a variety of transferrable skills from her community pharmacy experience and has also learnt and utilised several new skills along the way. She has achieved an incredible amount in a short space of time and her attitude and enthusiasm to developing pharmacists in this relatively new area of practice is inspriring. She is now the Lead GP Prescribing Pharmacist Partner at WellBN. She is also a DPP & Mentor, Covid vaccination service lead, Digital Marketing lead, Practice Merger Lead, and Benzodiazepine Detox Specialist. It was an honour to have a conversation with her. Trying to strike the perfect balance between his personal and professional lives, Brad works as a full-time community Pharmacist four days a week and private practice with Men's Health Downunder for the fifth day: all the while enjoying being a family man. After having talked about how he started in the Pharmaceutical industry and his work with Life Pharmacy Group, Brad goes on to talk about Men's Health Downunder which was founded in 2015 owing to a lack of reliable and cost-effective endorsed medical grade treatments for men. The company website offers patients a complete solution at a competitive price from a highly regarded profession. Brad finds technology to be critical in the Pharmaceutical industry and so the company uses technology geared towards two things: Positive Business Outcomes (PBOs) and Positive Patient Outcomes (PPOs). The three primary technologies used in the business are: 1. Dragon (an AI tool used for dictation that eases taking of patient notes, writing of letters, and managing of emails) 2. Clinico (a CRM platform that allows you to have a patient database) 3. Clinicom (Support service) Brad concludes by saying that there are primarily two things that a Pharmacist needs to focus on: 1. Connecting with the patient 2. Making them feel that they are cared for

Today, I get to speak to Dr. Mary Ngo who was one of the GoodRx Above and Beyond Pharmacy Award Winners. She won the Breakout Pharmacist which honors pharmacists who propel the profession forward through their early tenure work, community, or advocacy efforts.Dr. Mary Ngo is a new practitioner pharmacist who attended Chapman for both undergraduate and pharmacy graduate programs and completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2019. Currently, she works as a clinical staff pharmacist at South Coast Mission Pharmacy, an outpatient pharmacy at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach, serving many patients within LA/Orange County communities and those in mental rehabilitation facilities and specializing in treatments for substance abuse and psychiatric disorders. She is also a consultant pharmacist with Imperial Health Plan of California, providing aid to senior patients in medication therapy management and transitions of care services.Throughout her involvements, she has assisted in several events and programs related to student-new practitioner mentorship, supporting students and other providers during health fairs and professional events. Given her passion for breaking the mental health stigma in Asian American culture, she has been working alongside various providers, students, and young advocates in creating various media projects. These projects provide a public space for sharing stories of how advocates and providers have overcome mental health issues and sharing words of empowerment/health information to promote self-care and advocate public health. Mary also just matched at the  VA San Diego for PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency! The NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service launched in October 2019 as an advanced service. Since 1st November 2020, general practices have been able to refer patients for a minor illness consultation via CPCS, once a local referral pathway has been agreed. This episode of the Pharmacy View Podcast, host Scott Carpenter, EVBC is joined by Jess Ly and Eric Moschietto-Fransa and they talk about PharmX, the most extensive network of community Pharmacies and suppliers throughout Australia and New Zealand. Jess was a full-time Community Pharmacist before she found joy in the digital health field. Still a Community Pharmacist, she is the Customer and Marketing lead at PharmX. Likewise, Eric has worked in Australia for the last 22 years with many organizations, suppliers and market leaders. He finds that technological improvements have made the Pharmaceutical industry exciting when it comes to work. Delving more into PharmX, Eric talks about how it was created in 2005 in order to solve a particular problem that existed in the industry. Fragmented trade is a nature of Pharmacy industry in Australia, he adds, where there are 5000 Pharmacies with myriad POS solutions and there are also wholesalers and direct suppliers with their own solutions. The problem, he highlights, is the lack of a connectivity partner that can help all those parties connect with each other. PharmX was created on the premise of solving that problem.

More broadly in his capacity as a Professor of Pharmacy Practice, he has been involved in research and teaching on a wide range of issues related to the profession of Pharmacy. On today's episode I am beyond delighted to introduce you to my dear friend and fellow pharmacist, Erin Tew (formerly Erin Lowther). I have been nagging her to record an episode for nearly a year now and the timing was absolutely perfect and the conversation was exactly what I was craving! Erin and I started our pharmacy journey together as resident pharmacists at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and we lived together for some time during this job. This episode was extremely reflective and gave a true insight to what life is really like for passionate healthcare professionals who strive to be the BEST version of themselves. Erin is one of the most energetic, positive, and hard working humans that I have met in my professional journey so far. Nothing is ever too hard for her and she has a natural ability to see the good in every scenario she is faced with. I got to see a different side of Erin during this conversation. The vulnerable and emotional side of her that we don't see too often as she is such a strong character. It was a pleasure catching up with her after many months and it was also lovely to have a conversation about becoming more aware of who we are, how we feel, and what we need in life to progress in this professional journey.
