Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh!Welcome back to BeQuranic!Alhamdulillah, today is Tuesday, the 12th of Shaaban. Shaaban is a special month, one that Rasulullah ﷺ would fast in more than any other month outside of Ramadan. Why? Because this is the month when our deeds are lifted and presented to Allah annually. We already have our daily presentation of deeds that happens after Fajr and after Asr, which is why Rasulullah ﷺ would dedicate those times for Qur'an recitation and dhikr. Then we have the weekly presentation on Mondays and Thursdays, which is why we are encouraged to fast on those days. Rasulullah ﷺ loved for his deeds to be lifted while he was in the state of worship. And then there's the annual presentation that happens in Shaaban. Saidatuna Aishah رضي الله عنها mentioned that Rasulullah ﷺ fasted the most in Shaaban, apart from Ramadan. And when asked why, he said, “I love for my deeds to be lifted while I am fasting.”Powering Up Our Intentions!Tomorrow is the 13th of Shaaban, which means we are entering the White Days—the 13th, 14th, and 15th of every lunar month, known as Ayyamul Beed (the White Days), because the nights are bright with the full moon. These days are Sunnah to fast in every month except Ramadan, as it is obligatory to fast the whole month. And here's the beautiful thing—you can combine multiple intentions when fasting these days!✅ For Wednesday: Intend to fast for Shaaban and the White Days—you get double the reward.✅ For Thursday: Intend to fast for Shaaban, the White Days, and the Sunnah fast of Thursday—that's triple the reward for one single fast! This is how we multiply our rewards with just one act of worship!Tajweed Tuesday: Let's Get into It!Since today is Tuesday, that means it's Tajweed Tuesday—the day we break down the rules of Qur'anic recitation so we can beautify and perfect our reading.Let's start with the basics of Tajweed before we dive into our practical session with Surah Ar-Rahman.What is Tajweed? The word Tajweed literally means “to beautify”. In the context of Qur'anic recitation, it means:

The Citizen's Advice Bureau says it isn't a surprise that MSD incorrectly processed 1-in-4 benefit entitlements. The Ministry of Social Development's revealed its accuracy has slipped over the past few years, largely due to system and resource challenges. CAB Deputy Chief Executive Andrew Hubbard says the stat stacks up with inconsistencies it's hearing from clients. He told Mike Hosking it creates stress for those who have been overpaid and are facing debt they shouldn't be held responsible for. Hubbard says mostly it's to do with a change in circumstance, like they've been a week late or it's taken MSD time to catch up with the change they've told them about. In Episode Eighteen, DDSWTNP wish our author a happy 88th birthday and talk about the international life he led between the mid-1970s and early 1980s. We follow DeLillo abroad, covering his year in Canada (1975) and his much-discussed time living in Athens (1978-1982), tracing influences of these experiences on portrayals of national identity and language in The Names especially but other works too. Central to understanding this period is the powerful change in method that DeLillo made at his manual typewriter that inspired slower, more “serious” work. For those who already know the biography pretty well we also have in this episode some surprising details garnered from his letters in these years to editor and friend Gordon Lish, the remarkable story of DeLillo's response to a Utah banning of Americana in 1979, and connections between the 1981 Athens earthquakes DeLillo lived through and the 1988 short story “The Ivory Acrobat.” We end by considering the “toxic spill” of the news that greeted DeLillo on his return to America in 1982 and energized the writing of White Noise, and we announce too some upcoming episodes that will close out 2024! As is often true, we get significant help in this episode from interview excerpts and more collected at Don DeLillo's America: http://perival.com/delillo/delillo.html Texts referred to and quoted from in this episode: Ann Arensberg, “Seven Seconds” (1988), in Thomas DePietro, ed., Conversations with Don DeLillo, University of Mississippi Press, 2005, 40-46. In Episode Seventeen, DDSWTNP briefly discuss new Nobel Laureate Han Kang before digging into “A History of the Writer Alone in a Room,” DeLillo's acceptance speech for an award he did win, the 1999 Jerusalem Prize. In this unpublished, hard-to-find text, DeLillo tells the humbling story of the novelist at frustratingly slow work, “shaped by the vast social reality that rumbles all around him,” in a narrative that conjures scenes that resonate with Libra, Mao II, and other of DeLillo's portraits of the artist (while also raising the question of whether DeLillo has a cat). Novelists Thomas Mann, Philip Roth, and William Gaddis make their way into our analysis of this miniature fiction, and we consider as well the meaning of the Jerusalem Prize, the “nonchalant terror” of everyday life, and the young woman writer the essay at its end envisions taking up this legacy of lonely work. Minnesota takes great pride in its lakes. "10,000 Lakes" is even emblazoned on the state's license plates. But at least some people in Wisconsin think their state has more lakes than Minnesota. It's because there's not one standard for what defines a lake. A reader wanted to know more about why the states are measuring their lakes differently. Erica Pearson, who wrote a story on this topic for Curious Minnesota, digs into the details with host Eric Roper. LINKS: Why Wisconsin claims — incorrectly — to have more lakes than the Land of 10,000 Lakes Why does Minnesota have so many lakes?
