The Second Deployment of the Band Of Brothers Podcast starts here. Your hosts Elton McManus and Andy Poulastides start the mini series with Part One – Currahee Easy Company goes through training under the leadership of a captain who relentlessly pushes them to their limits but may be limited as a leader in the field....
Assemble the squad! This week, Cocktails & Classics embarks on a new journey with our first TV Series, HBO's Band of Brothers. Watch along and join us as we delve into the gripping first episode, "Currahee," introducing Easy Company and the grueling training they endure under the demanding Captain Sobel. We'll discuss the show's ensemble cast and introduction to Easy Company, our expectations for the series going forward & whether or not we are hooked yet, and the interesting story structure of this first episode. Brothers in the Making: Analyze the episode's focus on Easy Company's training and the bonds formed through shared experiences. Leadership & Conflict: Discuss the complex relationship between Captain Sobel and his recruits, exploring themes of leadership styles and motivation. Ensemble Cast & Character Introductions: Analyze the show's large cast and how the first episode introduces the core characters of Easy Company. Cliffhanger & Serialized Storytelling: Discuss the episode's cliffhanger ending and its effectiveness in drawing viewers into the series. Don't miss this episode for a powerful introduction to Band of Brothers, fueled by classic cocktails and engaging discussions. TIMESTAMPS: 00:00:00.000 - 00:05:14.591 - Episode Introduction, Dylan has never seen any of the show but remembers his Dad watching it when he was growing up, Ben tried to watch it with his wife who dropped out after the first episode, and we complain when people recommend a show and say “you just have to make it past the first season, then it gets really good.” 00:05:14.592 - 00:12:30.749 - Details on Band of Brothers (Awards, IMDb rating, Cast & Crew), We discuss the amazing ensemble cast, how a lot of major characters can get a bit confusing, and the (lack of?) introduction of each of the main characters. 00:12:30.750 - 00:18:04.750 - We deep dive into Sobel as an interesting and complex ‘villain' of the first episode, how Easy Company rallies around Winters, and how Sobel was basically sent to M.A.S.H. 00:18:04.751 - 00:25:53.723 - Dylan is intrigued by the story structure, this isn't a pilot episode but its a huge building into a BIG episode 2, Ben loves the cinematography and Dylan praises how well the VFX holds up. 00:25:53.724 - 00:34:58.772 - Are you hooked/sold on the series from episode 1? Dylan is excited to see the character development and camaraderie over the series, Ben used all of his Will Power to not continue watching, and we discuss how this series' cliffhangers are perfect for streaming. 00:34:58.773 - 00:42:58.368 - How was the casting? David Schwimmer was an interesting choice for a military officer but plays the role so well, we're interested to see how Nixon and Winters will develop over time, and how the new officer will play into the Company's dynamic. 00:42:58.369 - 00:46:10.818 - Its going be interesting to go back and watch this series week by week, how we used to have to watch TV before streaming. 00:46:10.819 - We decide to wait to finish the series to rate the whole thing, watch along with us if you haven't seen the series or want to rewatch, and outros. Coming up on the Men at the Movies podcast, we use the series Band of Brothers to reveal the path of our masculine initiation. Maturation and whole heartedness are not optional to survive the world we live in. The process begins with consent, volunteering to receive the training we need to fight the battles we will face. The process will be painful, costly, and beautiful. But it is a path that leads to greater life, and freedom-for ourselves, and those entrusted to our care. Hi ho silver, and let's discover God's truth in this story. Questions Who is your favorite character in Band of Brothers? Why? Who do you dislike the most? What do you dislike about him? What is your favorite episode of the series? What draws you to that episode? How does the approach of being initiated change your perspective on your life and what you have faced? What does it mean to consent to the process of becoming wholehearted? How do you open the door and let Jesus in each day? Where is that difficult? What crowns are you striving for that don't last? How does Sobel's tactics mirror the life you've experienced? Check out our YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@menatthemovies) for bonus content. In this episode Sean and James introduce the award-winning Band of Brothers series and discuss Episode 1: Currahee. In 1942, Easy Company trains at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, under First Lieutenant Herbert Sobel, a strict disciplinarian who goes out of his way to find fault with his men. The company is shipped to England in September 1943, and as training progresses, Sobel's inadequacy as a leader in the field becomes evident. Now a captain, Sobel initiates a dispute with Lieutenant Richard "Dick" Winters, leading to Winters requesting a trial by court martial. These factors lead all of Easy's non-commissioned officers to resign en masse. Colonel Robert Sink, the regiment's commander, reassigns Sobel to command of a parachuting school for essential non-infantry personnel. With new leadership, Easy Company prepares for Operation Overlord. William Guarnere learns that his older brother Henry, a medic in the 1st Armored Division fighting in Italy, has been killed at Monte Cassino. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4747725/advertisement

Ron Livingston, who plays Capt. Lewis Nixon, joins host Roger Bennett to reflect on Band of Brothers' first episode. Ron reveals his research process to portray the enigmatic S-2 Intelligence Officer, the way he surprised Tom Hanks during his audition, and the total immersion the entire cast underwent during a 10-day actor bootcamp, which saw them train like actual 1940s paratroopers. We go from fact to folklore in this one. Start with stories of Spanish explorers digging for gold in the 1600's, then stories of lost gold and silver mines, ending with the saga of the lost Confederate gold. You'll want to start digging for diamonds in Gainesville, silver on Currahee, and Jefferson Davis' gold in Washington.
An overview of the units that trained at Camp Toccoa, and the eventual transition of the camp after the war.
A short hike around Currahee Mountain, and the history found on the way. Civil War veterans, Moonshiners, and two men hiding out in a cave. A lot happened on this mountain, so this is part one.
Currahee! Joe covers the last few episodes of Band of Brothers along with his final thoughts on the miniseries.
Jim “Pee Wee” Martin in Ohio, one of the “Toccoa Originals” and few surviving paratroopers of WWII sat down with Jason and Rich, along with a handful of GORUCK Cadre, for Episode 044 in Ohio. On June 6, 2014, the 70th anniversary of D-Day, Martin became the last WWII era American paratrooper to jump over Normandy at the age of 93, landing behind Utah Beach just as he had 70 years earlier. A frank storyteller with strong opinions, Mr. Martin sprinkles his recollections with the greater history as well as personal anecdotes, and reminds that he is “just a representative of his unit.” A child of the Depression, Martin entered the military in 1942 and volunteered for the 101st Airborne Division -- what became the Screaming Eagles. He and the original “Toccoa Men” went through intense training at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, where the 506th was formed under Colonel Robert F. Sink. Martin talks about his decision to serve and the culling process at Currahee mountain -- from 6500 to 1650 men over the first 6months -- with blunt honesty. Despite being the smallest in his unit at 103 pounds (hence “Pee Wee” as a nickname) he says the only worry was if he was going to be able to stay. The night before D-Day, June 6, 1944, Martin's company parachuted over Normandy and touched down in enemy-controlled territory behind Utah Beach. They fought for 43 days as part of the Normandy campaign -- including in “Bloody Gulch” -- before moving on to invade Holland; holding the line in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge; and finishing off by taking Berchtesgaden, site of Hitler's “Eagle's Nest” redoubt in the German Alps. Martin celebrated his 100th birthday this year with a mass parachute drop -- including two of his granddaughters -- using vintage aircraft in a tribute to his place in history and his community. He talks about returning to Ohio in a time of continued rationing, marrying Donna (his wife of 72years before she passed two years ago) and building a life for them and their 5 children. He says that while he rarely thinks about his service “except during talks like this” because he and his fellows “had more important things to do” he shares many memories from his unique perspective. We review episode 1 of Band of Brothers - Currahee. The men of Easy Company begin training as paratroopers. In preparation for the invasion of Fortress Europa, they are confronted with the fact that their commanding officer, Captain Harold Sobel, is incompetent. Amidst a mutiny from the company NCO's, a new leader arises.
Deutsche Erstausstrahlung: Fr 25.03.2005 RTL II
Incredibly, the company that began in Toccoa, trained on Currahee, jumped into D-Day and Market Garden, and held the Bois Jacques woods in Bastogne, lived to see VE Day in Berchtesgaden—at Hitler's very own mountain retreat, known as the "Eagle's Nest." At D-Day+336, these men who had lost, survived, and fought for so much got to kick their feet up on their enemy's balcony, plunder his champagne, and raise a few toasts to his final defeat. This incredible moment was captured in an iconic photo that is usually found on our walls or computer desktops. It means so much to us because it reminds us of a day coming when we can celebrate the devil's defeat—and yet, we know the war isn't over when the seventh trumpet sounds. Join Jeff, Steph, Anna, Andrew, and Dalton for the final episode in our 'Better Brotherhood' miniseries. "Currahee." This Cherokee word became a hallmark of the 101st Airborne, with particular significance to the Band of Brothers. While other units were told to shout "Geronimo!" as they jumped from planes on D-Day, the men of Easy Company were under orders to scream this into the air instead. What originally meant "We stand alone" was adapted to mean "We stand alone—together." And that's how they made it to the war and successfully completed their mission—each man bearing his own load, in strength and solidarity with his brother standing next to him. What can we learn from this? Our round table grows again this week with Dalton Thomas. Come sit in our living room for our family fireside chat about the impact this story, and the incredible word that is "Currahee," has had on us as people and as a family. DURATION: 42 minutes

The Asheville Brewers Alliance kicked out a member brewery after its new beer - named for an alt-right movement - went viral. Dan Kowal went to Currahee Brewing Company in Franklin for an outdoor jazz concert Saturday night. When he saw the brewery's new line of Boogaloo beers the evening changed. "It just knocked me almost down to see that this was being promoted," says Kowal. In the past, 'boogaloo' , referred to a style of music. Recently it has become a word used by the alt-right as a term for a race war. Kowal, who is the vice-president of the Jackson County NAACP, says he wasn't representing the organization when he posted the image online. He originally posted the image with a caption saying that Currahee owners "needed a throat punch." He says he doesn't believe in violence and apologizes for this language. It went viral that night with comments flying between locals and Currahee. Co-owner of Currahee, Brandon Hintz says he wasn't aware of the racial connotations of the word

Brandon Hintz is owner of Hop Alley Brewpub in Alpharetta, GA and Currahee Brewing in Franklin, NC. Hop Alley was one of the first to break into the now growing Alpharetta craft beer scene back in 2013 and Brandon added Currahee to his arsenal in 2016. Along with head brewer Taylor Yates, he has grown the North Carolina brewery, and is now distributing in Georgia. And if that's not all, Hop Alley was one of the first brewpubs in the Alpharetta area. We talk to Brandon about his homebrewing background, his reasoning behind opening up a brewpub, and why he had to open Currahee in North Carolina instead of Georgia.

Winecast because after soberly recording these on a Saturday afternoon for the last couple of years, I'm recording this after a bottle of wine on a Sunday evening for a change. So don't expect coherence, but it honestly isn't all that bad. Mrs. Toad and I were down looking at the Port O' Leith Motor Boat Club today, wondering if we might buy the place, move in and try and turn it into the kind of recording space and performance space we already try and use our house as. It's a great building, but I am not entirely certain how popular a place in Newhaven might prove to be to Edinburgh people reluctant to go more than a block or two for their musicfunz. Anyhewww, here we have another ten songs of unbelievable brilliance, for which you will no doubt be enormously grateful and umm *cough cough* well, you're more than welcome. 01. Prize Pets - It Takes Time (00.09) 02. Ian Humberstone - House on the Hill (07.34) 03. Waiters - Tomorrowland (15.05) 04. Former Bullies - Golden Chains (20.21.) 05. Talvihorros - Beta (26.39) 06. Palms - Wolf (37.23) 07. Burning Yellows - Chopsticks (42.32) 08. Debutant - Yeah! Currahee! (51.00) 09. The Japanese War Effort - Dreaming of a New Labour (54.49) 10. King Creosote & John Hopkins - Bats in the Attic (Unravelled) (62.52)
