James Gunn's new Superman has his big suit reveal and... it's not going very well on social media. While some people like it, most are complaining about it looking cheap and baggy, like a CW Arrowverse costume. They're also wondering why Superman is casually putting on his boots while Metropolis is getting pummeled in the background. And then there are the Snyderverse fans, who are angry it's not Henry Cavill. OOF. The Flash is now the longest-running active show in the superhero genre. Chester P. Runk joined the show as a guest star in Season 6 and then became a series regular in Seasons 7 & 8, played by Brandon McKnight. Recently renewed for Season 9, McKnight joined the podcast to talk about his run on The Flash. In this episode, McKnight explained that he had auditioned for all of the CW Arrowverse shows, but that the Flash was his favorite. When he was hired, he read all of the comics featuring Chester. In the comics, Chester was a heavyset character named Chunk, and McKnight explained how the similarities are in name only. He explained that Chester's character is similar to the comics in name only and that the name is an homage to the source material. He also spoke about the titular star, Grant Gustin, and the idea of the long run of the series. McKnight is also an avid gamer and recently started a Twitch channel. He also discussed his experience with social media. Follow Brandon on Instagram @MrMcKnight, and on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/mcknighttime.
In this episode of the podcast, we welcome returning guest Adrienne Garofalo to talk about all things CW/Arrowverse. We get into why these shows work, what our favorite parts or characters are, and how what they are doing on these shows is not always perfect, but is true comic book storytelling. Warning: We go into spoilers for many of the CW/Arrowverse shows. Additionally, this was recorded before the Time Warner/ Discovery merger was finalized and since this recording, a few of the shows we talk about have been cancelled. 00:00 James introduces the show's topic and guest: The CW/Arrowverse and returning guest Adrienne Garofalo. We kick off with Adrienne telling us why she likes the shows in this universe. We talk about the expectations surrounding any show produced on this network with a big shoutout for how inclusive their productions tend to be and how willing they are to take chances. 6:45 Joe shares his reasons for liking the CW/Arrowverse shows. We talk about Damien Darhk and how it's possible that shorter seasons would have benefited these shows. 12:30 Chris brings up how he questioned whether Arrow was the best place to start a universe but it ends up paying off. Keeping the stakes low in the beginning allowed them to build a bigger universe and raise the stakes over time. 17:30 We have a discussion about the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. 22:00 Chris weighs in with his thoughts on the CW/Arrowverse, leading us to the topic of outgrowing being a completionist. 29:30 Joe jumps in with which shows he is enjoying, but with the caveat that they should tighten their storytelling, 33:10 Chris asks Adrienne what she thinks about the style of the story telling. We get into a discussion about how some of the stuff in the show can hit too close to home and not be the escapist entertainment we are necessarily seeking; when things are hard in the real world, we want our heroes to win. 44:15 Joe brings up Stargirl as a light, fun and heartwarming show that can serve as a break from the more real-world aspects of the other shows. 49:00 Adrienne talks about her love of Legends of Tomorrow, which leads to a larger conversation about the best parts of the CW/Arrowverse, focusing on Superman and Lois. 1:05:00 We close with our recommendations.

Although we generally avoid the CW Arrowverse, we had to dive into Batwoman as it concluded its first season. It embodies both of our core topics: geekiness, and queerness. Whether it successfully addresses queerness is up for debate, but we certainly have some thoughts. Then, we watched Mrs. America, a new FX series about Phyllis Schlafly and the fight over the Equal Rights Amendment. If you think we’re biased against DC Comics and its related media, feel free to tell us in a review on Apple Podcasts! As long as you agree with our bias, that is.

The Starling Tribune Reporters SP, Chris and Michelle review the penultimate Arrow season 8 episode 9 “Green Arrow & The Canaries.” In this episode the reporters discuss if Oliver Queen's Crisis sacrifice was honored appropriately in the timeline, ponder why Oliver chose to keep the Earth 2 Laurel, what Earth Prime timeframe is Laurel from in the episode, the awesomeness of two canaries cries back again, wonder when the Crisis effects are fully settled and who's memories will get restored and who stays oblivious, ask if 2040 Star City is still part of the Arrowverse of 2020, note that cool women don't look at explosives, admire the good stunt action in the episode, smile at the return of the Queen Mansion, their theories of who the main villain is in the episode, search their memories on any other follow on series with a 20 year time jump, their wishes for what a green lit Green Arrow and the Canaries series would look like, and how the reporters are taking the other CW Arrowverse shows post-Crisis. Join the show next week for the final Arrow episode review and final Starling Tribune episode!
