Today we welcome a good friend of mine into the podcast! John, from a beef and sheep farm in Darvel, Ayrshire always enjoyed working with livestock but didn't see farming at home in his future. Veterinary was always the goal and work was required for that! John mentioned that he was clever but by no means didn't have to try, highers required effort and his firs year of vet school came as a bit of a shock! Getting through the first year he got into the swing of things in the second and 4 years later was qualified! A few vet practises followed before settling at his current practise, alongside his partner Chloe at ark vets in Lockerbie! He tells stories about getting into veterinary, his travels to SE Asia and NZ where he both worked and holidayed! Always enjoy chatting to someone in or as you ALWAYS learn something about them! Enjoy!

Jim Goodwin survives the disaster at Darvel and will be in the dugout on Saturday. Glen is joined by Jonny Main to discuss the statement on Goodwin's future & friend of the show Michael Monan is back to help preview the game on Saturday as the Dons head to Easter Road.
The team react to the shock result in the Scottish Cup where West of Scotland League side, Darvel dump Premiership team, Aberdeen out in the fourth round. On the night when we get the news that Frank Lampard is leaving Everton after less than a year in charge at Goodison Park it's looking like Aberdeen's manager, Jim Goodwin is clinging on to his job. And Bucks Quiz has his crystal ball out - and things arent't looking good for Bournemouth, Everton and Southampton.
Gordon Duncan is joined in the studio by Gordon Dalziel, Andy Halliday and Darvel manager Mick Kennedy as we look back on one of the greatest ever wins in Scottish Cup history as Darvel knocked out Premiership side Aberdeen...
We live in a hyperbole-rich age, but even so I think it's fair to describe Monday night in Darvel as our single worst ever result. Lewis Walker joins us to break down the match and its inevitable, although weirdly delayed, implications.

West Ham's senior producer Laura Brannan is joined on the show by Sky Sports duo Andrew Dickson and Anthony Joseph in the closing stages of the winter transfer window. But before that, they focus on the only story in town…Darvel rocked the Scottish Cup history books, sinking struggling Aberdeen in the fourth round of the competition, making them the biggest giant killers of all time.Does this spell the end for Jim Goodwin? The Dons boss has been under pressure for a while now following a spell of bad results, time will tell if he will be the first Premiership managerial casualty of 2023. Josip Juranovic has departed Celtic following his third-place finish with Croatia in the World Cup, but they're closing in on the signing of Hyeon-Gyu Oh.Across the city, Rangers have also been active in the transfer market, welcoming Todd Cantwell on a long-term deal. On this week's show, we cast our minds back on the season just gone and dish out our very special Auchterarder Chippy end of season awards - probably the first and last time that Darvel will be compared to Borussia Dortmund. John, Jeff and Vinny are on as we round up what has been going on in Scottish football with some of the playoffs being decided in the last week. So far, it's pleasing to see that the playoffs have seen teams progress and be promoted so congratulations to Bonnyrigg, Edinburgh City and Queen's Park. Can Inverness complete the set and defeat St Johnstone? Further down in tier 6 things have still to be decided with Darvel, Tranent and St Cuthberts set to take part in a round robin tournament to see who gains a place in the Lowland League. Once again we discuss the Lowland League and the way they have stifled progression with lack of promotion spots available. In a bizarre tangent, we end up talking half time entertainment in Scottish football and the bizarre and wonderful things we've seen take place. It provides some light relief to the show. More congratulations are in order, this time in the Women's game as Glasgow Girls and Women were promoted from SWPL2. We discuss progress for the Women's game in Scotland with more needed to be done to increase crowds and improve facilities. The podcast concludes with a brief conversation on Rangers ahead of their Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt. Regulars John, Jeff, Kyle and Scott are on as they review the last week in Scottish football. We kick off by discussing the events at the SWFA awards ceremony which unfortunately was ruined by some shocking comments from one of the guest speakers. Following on from this we discuss the need for more respect to be shown in Scottish football overall. Rangers qualified for the Europa League final which takes place next week. The team discuss the achievement but don't call it a fairytale or Jeff will turn in to the Incredible Hulk. The relegation spot in Premiership looks pretty nailed on with playoff spot being similar. Can Arbroath or Inverness win the playoffs and get promoted? Congratulations are in order to Darvel for winning the inaugural WOSFL in a long season. We discuss the prospect of them playing in the Lowland League and hint at possible reconstruction we'd like to see in future. The podcast concludes with the news that Scott Brown has retired from playing and some of his achievements. TONY McINALLY was the manager in waiting as a player who's won most things he can in the dugout. Now he's trying to take Cumnock back to where they belong. A win at Darvel last weekend showed just what he's building at Townhead Park. Tony joins us on the show this week and in the first of two parts we look back at his stellar career as a gaffer. He tells us why he was once accused of being a coal thief – and we look back at his successful spell at Shotts Bon Accord which ended with a year-long ban for a first offence. He explains why he thinks the league setup is better now than it was back then despite his dislike for this season's relegation scenario. There's also his near five-year reign at Pollok, the benefits of cutting his teeth in management away from the spotlight and his little book of players to keep an eye on. There's Tayport head of communications Pete McEleny's roundup of the scores from across the country. Plus there's yet another new feature as former Vale of Clyde manager Mark MacKay gives us his standout performance in The Best of the West. It's all here as we go Down The Divisions. WE'RE reaching the business end of the season – and the Lowland League have already secured cash for their clubs for next term. Rangers and Celtic have agreed to stump up to allow their colt teams to enter the setup. The Lowland League say it's just for one season but it's a decision which has sparked plenty of debate. Darvel boss Mick Kennedy tells us why he thinks it's the wrong move for the good of the game. And, after we've heard from the manager of Darvel, we'll hear from one of his new coaches. Kieran McAnespie spoke to us before he'd joined up with Mick – and the second part of his interview is a really frank listen. Kieran tells us why he never fulfilled his potential after leaving St Johnstone for Fulham AND why he's got a better attitude at 41 then he did at 21. We cover his spell when he fell out of love with the game and had a stint working at Babestation. At the end of a season to remember for St Johnstone, we hear his memories of their current boss Callum Davidson nearly chucking football for university. It's all here as we go Down The Divisions. JOHN GALL is the man who had people saying aye to a Killie pie. But now the managing director of Brownings the Bakers is ploughing his dough into Darvel. Crowned World Scotch Pie champion in 2017, John is now targeting silverware at Recreation Park in the coming seasons. The likes of Ian MacShane, Jordan Kirkpatrick and Ross Perry have signed for the team bossed by Mick Kennedy. Last week they turned on their brand new floodlights, built as part of the requirements they'll need if they're to continue rising up the leagues. But the lights then went out on their promotion hopes just a few days ago after the West of Scotland League campaign was declared null and void. We'll hear John's thoughts on being left in the dark – and whether he feels this season has now been a waste of money. Newly confirmed West of Scotland League fixture Kennie Young also makes an appearance just hours after the announcement was made. He reveals plans for an earlier start date next term, tells us what clubs applying to join the league next season will require - and why the 67 original members will be protected. After that we'll ask John about claims he's buying success – and find out about the secret American-based boyhood Darvel fan who's also invested in the club. John tells us about plans for Friday night football and his grandad's mystery £100 donation to Hurlford in 1965. We'll also look back at his previous involvement in football at Kilmarnock - and try to find out just what the secret is to that baking success, which dates back to 1945. That, plus Des Roach's roundup. We'd also like to give a quick mention to our sponsors FortyFour Creative. LEAGUE ONE and Two clubs are set to restart their campaigns a week on Saturday. But what about the sides below that? As the days and weeks go on, just how are seasons going to be finished in time. We'll discuss that – and hear some inside information from Paul. One of the League Two sides who'll be back in action is Stranraer – and later we'll hear the second part of our interview with club legend Allan Jenkins. First we'll hear about his move to ambitious Gretna. He'll tell us what it was like being cup-tied for the Scottish Cup final –why James Grady's dramatic injury-time goal was the worst thing to happen – and what it was like playing in the top flight after being told he wasn't wanted. But Allan is idolised in Ireland too. He went on to play even more games for Ballymena than he did for Stranraer. He'll look back on six years at the Showgrounds under the best manager he's played under – and the only one who'd kiss him before kick-off. There's scoring the goal that helped lift the League Cup after discovering his mum had been diagnosed with cancer. And there's his move into the juniors, first with Hurlford - when Auchinleck Talbot snatched away the Scottish Cup – and then with Darvel. We chat about Micks career in full.
ALLAN JENKINS is a legend at Stranraer AND Ballymena. He's played in every senior league in Scotland and scored in an Irish League Cup win while keeping his mum's cancer diagnosis a secret. He came back to Scotland to play in the juniors with Hurlford, Darvel and Dalbeattie Star. And now he's at his local club again, pulling on the boots for Stranraer's reserves - but more importantly overseeing their youth setup. In the first of two parts we'll look at: Life playing boys' football with Kevin Kyle Why he thinks a generation of players could be lost because of the pandemic. Both sides of Billy McLaren - and his fight with a naked player. Neil Watt's jotter of the players he'd sign to make Stranraer successful. Why being a postman helped his career. The day he walked out holding hands with his future Hurlford manager. His rapping to Vanilla Ice. Why Stephen Swift terrorised Peter Crouch The day they wrecked Stuart Millar's pre-match toilet routine. Allan's aspirations as a coach. AND look out for part two in the coming weeks where Alln talks about the massive highs and huge lows of playing at Gretna on the up then leaving on the down. Then how a move across the Irish Sea ended with him being inducted into Ballymena's hall of fame. We'd also like to give a quick mention to our sponsors FortyFour Creative. BELLSHILL ATHLETIC are one of three teams riding high in the West of Scotland League's Conference A. But they needed their 42-year-old assistant boss to grab their last ditch winner to keep them there in their last outing. Manager Derek Wilson reckons right-hand man Davie Menelaws no longer has the legs to play from the start. We'll find out just what Davie thinks of that as he joins us on the show this week. The pair only took charge at Rockburn Park in April. But after bringing in a host of new players they've masterminded an impressive start to the season. We'll speak to Davie about how they've sparked things. A man of many clubs as a player, first in the seniors then the juniors, we'll also look back at those days. We hear about the game that Davie hoped could make him as a player - but ended up with a leg break that left him fearing for his career. Davie tells us why he's convinced the days of the £100,000 player are coming back now the West of Scotland League has been set up. There's the night he headed to watch WWE wrestling at the Hydro - only to learn he and Derek were being axed as the management team at Carluke Rovers. Plus we look at the match-ups in the WOSFL this weekend, which include Premier League leaders Clydebank going to Darvel. It's all here as we go Down The Divisions. WE'VE had matchday two of the West of Scotland League – and it's Darvel and Clydebank flying high at the top of the Premier Division with maximum points. In another season Shots Bon Accord might have been battling it out with them in the top flight too. But instead they're one of 15 clubs now looking on from the outside after choosing to sit out a season without fans. The Bonny had hopes of winning promotion from the West Juniors Championship last season. But the early finish to the campaign because of the pandemic saw them narrowly miss out. Their boss John McKeown joins us on the show this week. We'll get his views on the situation they've found themselves in – and look at how he'll handle things at Hannah Park between now and next season. Plus we'll look back at a lower league playing and managerial career which started out at Ipswich as a kid. We'll hear how hard it was when a hip injury ended his playing days at the age of just 27 and the transition into the dugout at Wishaw. There's his first training session as Cumnock boss, when just seven players turned up, and why he feared the sack after losing 6-0 to Auchinleck just a few days later. Plus John reveals one of the few times he cried as a boss. We'll also discuss the impact of former Lanark chairman and Juniors chief Tam Anderson, who sadly passed away on Saturday. It's all here as we go Down The Divisions. Apologies for the poorer sound quality this week. If you have any comments we'd love to hear from you. John is joined by Scott from The Footy Blog Net who returns after missing last week. There is plenty to discuss and we kick off with the mixed fortunes of Celtic and Rangers in Europe. Celtic continued to toil as they seem stuck between formations while Rangers continue their terrific record in Europe under Gerrard. The game between Standard and Rangers saw the best goal you'll possibly see all season from Roofe. We move on to domestic action and continue to discuss Celtic and their current form. They continued to have major issues defending though looked better in attack. Aberdeen will probably be slightly disappointed that they didn't win after putting in a strong performance. It leads us nicely in to their semi final from last season which takes place on Sunday. We cover the rest of the Premiership action and discuss whether Kevin Nisbet may be in for a Scotland call up. The lower league action is discussed as we give the results of our predictions game and this week it is the turn of Scott to represent the podcast against Ally Graham. The new dawn of the West of Scotland Football League started with Darvel getting off to a good start. We'll hopefully look more in depth at the league next week as we should have a guest on.

After a turbulent few weeks, the boys get together to look ahead to the WoSL Premier Division and this weekend's fixtures. We chat about potential title battle between Darvel and Kilwinning as well as chatting about our new favourite side, Rossvale. Also, what lies ahead for Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch? We look forward to finding out! Remember to head over to @TBLowerLeague on Twitter and search talkingLowerLeague on Instagram to chat to us!
AFTER a glittering spell managing in the amateurs Michael Kennedy is now the man turning Darvel into a growing force. In his first season he had attracted some star-studded names and steered the club to the top of the West Juniors Championship before lockdown halted things. They'll take their place in the new West of Scotland Premiership next season - and after already landing Jordan Kirkpatrick and Ryan Thomson Kennedy he tells us whey he feels they have to target winning it. Michael lifts the lid on a changing room at Recreation Park which has become the talk of football and reflects on those trophy-laden days as a boss with Colville Park AFC. We look at the bombshell news which has hit juniors football in the west this week as an investigation into the awarding of Auchinleck Talbot the title this season begins. Michael also reveals the background to starting up the Black Rooster chicken outlets and outlines his plans for the future of the business. Plus, in our feature Inside The Mind, he tells us about a practical joke he had no idea about which saw a teammate sat at Celtic Park convinced he was going to sign for Brighton. The two John's are joined by current Darvel Juniors manager Mick Kennedy. We're pleased to have him on especially in current situation where we're all desperate for any kind of football chat. Mick talks his through his career from his time playing in amateur football where he became a Scotland player at that level. He then leads on to his transition to management in the amateurs where he had tremendous success in a short space of time. He speaks about why Darvel were the right fit in terms of moving in to management in the Juniors.
