The Atterbury group and Truworths have inked a deal for the creation of a new distribution centre in Cape Town. The clothing retailer's new facility will be built in King Air Industria, which is an Atterbury Property and Old Mutual Properties development. Truworths will lease the new building, which will consolidate all of its various Cape Town facilities under one roof. The development's 53 000 m2 initial phase consists of a 3 000 m2 office and 50 000 m2 warehouse, and includes the option to expand to 70 000 m2. Designed to target an internationally recognised EDGE sustainability certification, the development will break ground this month, with the building scheduled for completion in September, next year. “As a result of business growth we have spent some time looking to build a larger, state-of-the-art distribution centre to accommodate our future requirements,” says Truworths CFO Emanuel Cristaudo. “This positions us well for the future and we are looking forward to the completion of this project.” The value of the development is not disclosed. Atterbury's King Air Industria development manager Arno du Plessis adds that the development roll-out of King Air Industria is making “excellent progress and attracting a high calibre of businesses that want to be near the airport, but also seek quality, efficient premises that support both their business and sustainability goals”. King Air Industria is located between Airport Approach, Borcherds Quarry, Robert Sobukwe and Pallotti roads, and connected to the city and inland region with access to the N2 and R300 freeways. The 72 ha development is already home to The Courier Guy, operating in a 10 112 m2 facility, and Morgan Cargo, operating in a 7 500 m2 provincial head office building that includes a specialised cold storage facility. “We are enjoying great leasing momentum in the Western Cape, not only at King Air Industria, but also at other properties, including Richmond Park, where the demand-driven development roll-out is proceeding at an exciting pace,” says Atterbury leasing manager Mia Kitshoff. Atterbury has signed a deal with online retailer Takealot for a 20 400 m2 second phase of its Richmond Park distribution facility, which will take the total size to 44 000 m2 when it is completed in June next year. The property group has also signed hardware retailer Brights for a 6 000 m2 facility, which will be completed in November next year.

This is a bonus minisode of the Sod's Law podcast, recorded in Kraków, Poland, where I traveled to record Ukrainian refugee and aid-worker stories exactly one month after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Tzvi Sperber of JRoots took me to one of their refugee centres to see what they had set up over the last few weeks. Tzvi and his team were going from room to room checking everyone had everything they needed, and in one room there was a young lady who couldn't have been older than 20, looking much younger. She was lying on a blow-up mattress with a weeks-old baby across her chest, to whom she'd given birth during the war. When asked if we could provide her with anything such as food, clothing or anything else, she said all she needed was a stroller/pram for her baby. The response was an immediate, “We will try and find you one, and if we can't find one, we'll buy one.” Within the hour Tzvi had sourced a bassinet within their distribution centre, and delivered it to the mother and child. -- If you'd like to support Sod's Law you can become a Sod's Law patron at patreon.com/sodspod from as little as £1 /$1 a month - there are different tiers including ad-free episodes, giveaways and more!

Tony Nash CEO of Booktopia started his company on a $10 per day budget in February 2004. He shares his fascinating journey on becoming Australia's biggest online book retailer without ever having set out a “grand plan” of doing so. Realising early on that focusing on his passion for books and “being one thing to one group made it easier to connect with the consumer” Booktopia now sells one product every 8 seconds. From stocking it's first title in 2007 to now stocking 130,000 titles and 700,000 units ready-to-ship. The company operates from its Sydney Headquarters and Distribution Centre with a floor space of 13,000 square metres and ships 20,000 items per day.    Tony brings a refreshing view to Amazon's arrival in Australia and isn't afraid of a little (or even big) competition reminding us that, “There is no point in freaking out. You can still have your spot in the world.” Booktopia plans on maintaining their spot by “keeping an eye on competitors through peripheral vision instead of focusing on them.” Part of Booktopia's successful formula is to help their customers “discover something new” by adding value to the their lives and providing them with books to read that they never knew existed.     In 2015 Booktopia bought Angus & Robertson Bookworld, a 130 year old iconic Australian brand. With revenues exceeding $100 million for the first time in 2017. In 2014 Booktopia won the Telstra Medium Sized Business of the year award for NSW and became the first ever company to make the BRW Fast 100 for seven years from 2009 to 2014 and again in 2016. Tony offers listeners great tips on how to ensure their staying power in this market and how to make the purchase process a smooth transaction. He also divulges why the Romance genre helped his company heat up book sales!    Digital Leadership Podcast interviews by Doyle Buehler - The Digital Entrepreneur http://www.twitter.com/doylebuehler https://au.linkedin.com/in/doylebuehler   For speaking engagements and interview requests for digital strategy, social media and online marketing, please email: doyle@thedigitaldelusion.com                         More details on each digital strategy podcast episode available here: http://www.thedigitaldelusion.com/podcast   Join the discussion of digital strategy, leadership and marketing online on our Facebook Exclusive Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/onlineinnercircle/   Get a copy of the international best seller - The Digital Delusion -www.thedigitaldelusion.com/3 or on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1V819mQ   Take the Digital Leadership Quiz: http://www.leadership.digital   www.thedigitaldelusion.com   (C) 2017 Doyle Buehler
