Alex Kalinauckas, Stuart Codling and Ben Hunt join forces at Silverstone over two days as McLaren and Williams launch their cars to start the 2025 F1 season. Alex and Ben kick off proceeds for McLaren's launch, the pair discuss why team principal Andrea Stella is confident McLaren can retain their place at the top of sport via their “innovative” MCL39, and why there's still plenty left for development in the final year of the current regulations. There's also a reaction to Oscar Piastri's confident claim that he can win the 2025 Drivers Championship. Stuart picks up the slack for Day 2 at Williams, as they launch their 2025 car, the FW47. He and Alex discuss Williams' new title sponsor in Atlassian, Alex Albon and how he sees the arrival of new teammate Carlos Sainz as an “opportunity” rather than a “challenge”. There's also a chat about the similarities in what both drivers want from their new car, Sainz on the FIA's push to fine drivers for swearing in press conferences, and how the Spaniard will handle fighting for points in 2025, rather than challenging for victories. Almost as quickly have humans created automobiles they were racing them against each other. Eventually this racing, centralized initially in Europe, evolved from is pre WW2 roots to become the creme del la creme, the pinnacle of motorsport....Formula One. Almost as much fighter plane as car, costing millions of dollars each and reaching speeds on the track of more the 215 mph, Formula One cars are the peak of modern engineering. Driven by peak athletes who have been training for it since childhood. So what did it take to bring this sport from its humble beginning on small European tracks to rocketing through Monte Carlo, or down the Las Vegas Strip for the first time this week. Who are the teams? How come there are only 10? How do you Why are some teams more dominant than other? Tune in and find out.
Max Verstappen wins his 16th race of the 2023 F1 season, and Lando Norris finds himself on a podium yet again. And Ferrari? Their top driver didn't even make it to the start of the race. Madness in South America as the Brazil GP does anything but disapoint.
Time On Track looks to Japan this week for round 17 of the Formula 1 season at the famous Suzuka Circuit. Verstappen returned to form this week, taking a dominant victory and bagging the World Constructor Championship for the team in the process, despite Sergio Perez's most forgettable race of the season. Some strange team orders were the subject of plenty of discussion, including one call that saw a last lap swap between the Alpine drivers, and another that played out between the Mercedes cars looking to keep a Ferrari at bay. Sergio's strange race also has us wondering if Lewis Hamilton might find himself within striking distance of P2 in the Drivers Championship before the season is out.
Welcome to the latest episode of Track Limits Podcast, where Henny, Feven, and Mikey share their thoughts on the recently concluded Japanese Grand Prix.Following a disappointing race in Singapore, the Red Bull team was determined to reclaim their status as the dominant force on the grid. Max Verstappen took it upon himself to send a clear message to everyone in the paddock and the spectators that Red Bull should not be underestimated. On the other hand, Checo Perez endured what we believe was one of the worst races in his career, plagued by damage, unnecessary penalties, and rookie overtaking errors.Nevertheless, Max Verstappen single-handedly propelled Red Bull to the Constructors Championship with his P1 finish and has a chance to secure the Drivers Championship during the upcoming Sprint Race in Qatar. This performance underscores the gap between Max and Checo, raising questions about whether Red Bull will retain this duo in the upcoming season.Oscar Piastri entered the weekend with a clear goal – to secure a podium finish. With the aid of new upgrades, he qualified in P2 and ultimately finished the race in P3. What initially appeared to be a challenging season for McLaren is evolving into one of the most remarkable improvements on the grid. With several races on the horizon, the McLaren car seems well-suited to narrow the gap to Aston Martin and secure P4 in the Constructors' standings.Mercedes took center stage with a captivating battle between their drivers, a situation that could have ended disastrously for the team. Meanwhile, Ferrari had a more low-key weekend but managed to achieve a respectable P4 and P6 finish. All eyes are now fixed on the intense rivalry between Mercedes and Ferrari as they vie for the coveted P2 position in the Constructors' standings. As the Qatar Grand Prix approaches, McLaren aims to maintain their strong performance and secure another podium finish, while Ferrari and Mercedes will be diligently searching for improvements to enhance their performance and compete for that crucial P2 spot.Thank you to Wall Wings for sending us a custom Track Limits front wing. Welcome to this episode of Pit Lane Parley, where we will be discussing the opening round of the 2023 season. From dominant Red Bull, to struggling Ferrari, and the resurgence of Aston Martin, there's plenty to talk about in this exciting start to the new season. First up, let's talk about Red Bull. The team was in dominant form in the opening race, with their drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez taking a 1-2 finish. They seemed to have the pace advantage over their rivals throughout the weekend, and their strategy calls were spot on. It's early days, but it looks like Red Bull could be the team to beat this season. On the other hand, Ferrari had a bad day as per usual. Despite showing some promising pace in practice, the team failed to deliver when it mattered in the race with a DNF for Charles LeClerc But it wasn't all bad news for the midfield teams. Aston Martin showed signs of resurgence in the opening race with Fernando Alonso rounding out the podium. And finally, McLaren had a bad day at the office. This is the case of JB meeting JB!While our paths have occasionally crossed, mainly at social events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed or back in the day at the bar at the BRDC dinner and dance, I have always thought Jenson Button and I would be great friends. He just never knew it!Anyway, now we both live in Los Angeles I have hoped for a while that we could sit down for Life with Legends. The trouble is that Jenson is busier now than ever, so last week, before the madness of racing seasons kick off, we met at the Petersen Museum and guess what; we were like old friends! When you are an active racing driver working your way through your career you tend to not to get that involved or aware of other peoples racing backgrounds. For me that was the case with Jenson, but once I read up on his early days in karting and how successful he was, it all dropped into place on why and how he set himself up for such an amazing F1 career! He literally won nearly everything possible in Karting against some of the other (now) biggest names in racing; 3 x British Open Kart Champion, Winner of the European Super A Championship and many, many more. His incredibly smooth and precise driving style led to a long stint in Formula One winning 15 races and the Drivers Championship in 2009, and was definitely a fan favorite known for his easy going nature and relatability. While his post-Formula One career is pretty far reaching, but his appetite to still race is huge, and so some very exciting news ahead for him - stay tuned! Thanks to everyone at the Petersen for giving us space to record this episode and a highlight for sure was seeing a couple of his old F1 cars in the vault! Very cool!Anyway, we had a great time and covered a lot of ground in two hours and I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did having it.JB
