Think and Grow Rich Full Book SummaryMore Content On Bookey Book Summary Website. Think and Grow Rich teaches us that for millions of people, desire can be the driver of success. Anyone interested in following this path to success must take a few straightforward steps. To start, of course, we must have a strong desire. With this yearning, we can affect the subconscious mind through autosuggestion . The subconscious mind reinforces our faith and confidence. It plants a seed. In time, it germinates, and a plan arises. What follows is action without a doubt. The method fully exploits the subconscious mind. It becomes a "middleman" that transforms desires into tangible effects. Through this process, you will realize that just thinking in the right way can make you rich. Overview | Chapter 1Hi, welcome to Bookey. Today we will unlock the book Think and Grow Rich. One day, in the early years of the 20th century, in Orange, New Jersey, United States, a visitor came into Thomas A. Edison's office. The guest looked a bit like a homeless person being worn out after a long and arduous journey. He introduced himself as Edwin C. Barnes. He expressed his long-standing wish to be Edison's business partner. Edison later recalled that something on Barnes' face conveyed determination. He was someone who would not give up until he achieved his goal. From his previous experience of dealing with people, Edison had learned that when someone's desire was so forceful that they would stake their entire future on their success—they were bound to succeed. Edison allowed Barnes to stay, but only as a peon and not as a business partner. Nevertheless, Barnes didn't reckon that his work was unskilled; instead, he held himself to lofty standards. And a few years later, he finally got his wish. He became Edison's true business partner and found himself working in the same room he had blundered into when he first met Edison. This is the story at the start of Think and Grow Rich. The anecdote tells us that a person's success is a function of their desire. The more intense their desire, the surer their success. How strong was Barnes' passion for success? When he was determined to become Edison's business partner, he didn't know this famous scientist, nor did he have the money to travel to the city where he was working. Facing these two difficulties, most people might have already given up their plans. But not Barnes. His desire was so strong that he climbed on a freight train to reach the destination and finally stood before Edison. When you build up determination, you can overcome any seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Think and Grow Rich is a book about effective thinking. It could be described as a book about the passion for success. In the title, the word "rich" has multiple connotations. Beyond wealth and financial success, these riches also include spiritual, mental, and bodily estates. Since it was first published in 1937, the book has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide and has influenced the paths of countless lives. The book's author, Napoleon Hill, was a pioneering motivational expert seeking to identify the principles of success. As the work's first edition has now become dated, it was edited and revised in 2004 by Arthur R. Pell, who has a Ph.D. in Philosophy. He replaced some outdated stories and anecdotes with more contemporary examples. The book, in its updated version, is now widely available and remains enduringly popular. Desire Into RichesDefiniteness of purposeWhen one is truly definite on his purpose, he may burn all the bridges behind to ensure there is no way back. Also, you have to make the decision to stick your entire life in order to make one step closer to your purpose. When one is definite, one puts his dreams across and never minds what others say when encountering temporary defeat. In the case of Mr. Edwin C Barnes, he always considered himself partner of Mr. Edison. From the very moment he started working for him even if his job wasn't directly related to Edison's.But this is not easy. Burning one's bridges is not always enough. In many cases, the turning point of those who succeeded came at some personal crisis where they were introduced to their other selves. The truth is accumulation of riches is not left to chance, good fortune, or luck. It is the result of a long quest. As an example, Edison failed many times before he discovered the genius sleeping within his mind. This state of mind can only be obtained through persistence and a burning desire. 6 Steps: Method for transmuting desire into richesThink and Grow Rich Chapter 2 Six Steps are very well known by Napoleon Hill followers. They are a recipe by Andrew Carnegie which also holds Edison's stamp of approval as essential for the attainment of any definite goal. However, those who have not been schooled in the working principles of mind will find these instructions impractical and therefore will be doomed to failure.Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire; as accurate as possible.Determine exactly what you intend to give in return, as there is no such thing as something for nothing.Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.Create a plan and begin at once, whether you are ready or not.Write points 1 to 4 as clear and concise as possible.Read point 5 twice daily. In the morning after rising and before retiring at night. With the application of these principles, you will convince yourself as you become definitely determined. In fact, money consciousness is a state of mind so saturated with desire you see yourself already in possession of it.Mary Kay techniques for self-confidenceMary Kay is the perfect example Think and Grow Rich is also for women. She has proposed a few steps to increase self-confidence, in line with Carnegie's principles.Visualize yourself successful. Visualize yourself in this new environment, capable and self-confident.Reflect on your past success. Recall it to remember your potential.Set definite goals and be aware when you deviate to undertake corrective action.Respond positively to life. e.g., delete the word impossible and many others.Chapter 2 analysis and ReviewTo burn one's bridges or to burn your boats means to do something which makes it impossible to go back to the previous state. This idiomatic expression means that you reach a point of no return. It comes from an aggressive military strategy so soldiers cannot to consider retreat. When conquering new places, soldiers know there is no way back and therefore will do their best in their campaign and survive. In Chapter 2 we learn the success story of Mr. Edwin C Barnes and Thomas Edison. Barnes admired Edison's inventions and dreamed about being partner with Edison. He left it all to go meet Edison and managed to obtain a low position within his company. With the passing of time, his faith in Edison's products and his hard work in the company resulted in Edison giving him an exclusive contract to distribute and market a particular device all over the nation. How much actual cash that original desire of Barnes was worth to him, I have no way of knowing. Perhaps it brough him two or three million dollars. Whatever the amount, it becomes insignificant when compared to the greater asset he acquired, the definite knowledge that an intangible impulse of thought can be transmuted into its physical counterpart by the application of known principles. It is very important you follow the six steps to the letter. They may seem obvious, but they are not. They force you to have a clear target in your life and to think about what you are willing to do in order to attain your goals.Chapter 2 is about a practical materialization of the American old saying There ain't no such thing as a free lunch, which in Think and Grow Rich it is expressed as there is no such thing as something for nothing. Welcome back to PART 2 of Making 2022 You Best Year Ever with EPISODE #191 on “The Importance of Thinking Differently and Choosing Faith over Fear” as we continue our deep dive into Napoleon Hill's Classic book, Think and Grow Rich, that has sold over 15 million copies worldwide. Be sure to click here to access the images in the show notes. For those new, or returning guests, welcome back to Season 7 of our Podcast I'm Andrea Samadi, author, and educator from Toronto, Canada, now in Arizona, and like many of you who tune in, have been fascinated with learning, understanding, and applying the most current brain research to improve productivity in our schools, our sports, and workplace environments. This month, I decided to share my notes with you on a book that I have been studying every year, with Paul Martinelli, who has studied this book for most of his career. On our first episode[i] and PART 1 of this book study, where we cover the Author's Introduction and Desire chapter, we opened with a quote from Undercover Billionaire Grant Cardone, who said, “In order to get to the next level of whatever you're doing, you must think and act in a wildly different way than you previously have been” and this is where I wanted to begin this episode, with reviewing Chapter 1 “Thoughts Are Things” with the idea that we must “think” in a wildly different way than we previously have to obtain NEW results in 2022. On this episode, you will learn ✔︎ How to go from fear to hope, using faith, in pursuit of your goals. ✔︎ How to “think” wildly different than you did last year. ✔︎ Examples of people who “thought” their way to their goals, making their ability to “think” the best investment of their lifetime. ✔︎ The 6 STEPS you must take every day, that will put your goal on autosuggestion. ✔︎ Common mistakes made when goal-setting/achieving. ✔︎ 4 steps to overcome your fears, helping you to break through to new levels in 2022. ✔︎ How to becoming unwavering with our faith, helping us when obstacles appear. How Do We “Think in a Wildly Different Way” to Get New Results? The answer is--by expanding our awareness. I'm sure you see now why studying Think and Grow Rich by reading and thinking about every word we are reading is so very important. We could spend a whole year studying this book, which is why I think we should all keep reading it, gaining more awareness long after January and this book study ends. Look at it this way. Remember the last lesson where we looked at how ideas are formed, and how it's up to us to act on our ideas and bring them to fruition. IMAGE: Levels of Frequencies of Thought Look at the image in the show notes of the levels of frequency and think of this as an example of where you are now, or the thoughts, feelings, and actions you are currently living with, giving you a certain result. Then imagine all the lines above where you are now, leading to where you want to go. Think of these frequencies like radio stations. To tune into the radio station you want, you need to turn the dial to that frequency. This is exactly the same idea to think about when we want to tune into the frequency that our goals exist on. And it won't be with the level of thinking you have at your current level. That's the whole point of Marshall Goldsmith's book What Got You Here, Won't Get You There: How Successful People Become Even More Successful.[ii] To ATTAIN your goal, or a new result, you will need to “think and act in a wildly different way that you previously have been” like Grant Cardone, reminded us. That's because the goal is on a different frequency than where you are now. To hit this NEW target, you will need to think NEW thoughts, take NEW actions, that will create NEW results, and none of them will be what you are currently doing. When I first saw this image, I remember wondering “well how on the earth do I magically get on the same level of vibration as the thing that I really want?” and the first time I did this exercise, I wrote down that I wanted to live in the United States (when I lived in Toronto at the time) and had no idea how I would ever make that happen. In the beginning, we don't need to know all the details on “how” we will do what we want to do. How Do You Move to a New Frequency? Over the years, and once I had achieved a few goals this way, it became obvious how this works. Think back 5 years ago to the person you were then. You have probably grown and changed since then and may be nothing like the person you once were. You had new experiences that took you to a new frequency. It can happen with a new job, where you must think in an entirely different way than you had to with a previous job, or maybe you moved to a new location, like I did, and had new experiences that have changed you. Now you can see the importance of why Napoleon Hill called this book “Think and Grow Rich” because it is crucial that we change our thinking to obtain the new results we are looking for. When we change our thinking, we will have new experiences, that will change our conditions, circumstances and environment, changing our vibration or frequency level and put us exactly where we need to be for the attainment of our goal. Only then, will we be able to look back and explain how we did it to others. Yesterday, I ran into my good friend Jeff Gould on the hiking trails, otherwise known as South Mountain Cowboy, who has been horseback riding on these mountains for the past 40 years and he looks younger than most of us who run up and down the hills daily. While chatting with Jeff this morning, who is a huge supporter of this podcast, he shared what he's learning from the episodes, and that he's always challenging himself to “think differently” by tuning into these episodes, which is probably what keeps him looking and feeling so young! I agreed with him that happiness comes naturally when we do what we love, continually challenge ourselves to grow, and live life doing whatever it is that makes us happy. It's a simple formula really--we radiate energy when we are doing what we love and enjoy the most, aligning ourselves with more and more experiences, as we continually expand and grow in pursuit of our vision. Can you see how 2022 can be your best year ever? It just takes your vision, and your will to achieve it, and I love seeing people like Jeff, living their dream on a daily basis. Jeff Gould, Southmountain Cowboy, on Telegraph Pass Mountain, AZ. Edwin C. Barnes In Chapter 1 “The Power of Thought” Hill talks about Edwin C. Barnes who also had a vision that he wanted to achieve when he “thought” his way into a partnership with Thomas Edison. Hill shares how Barnes had this burning desire to work with Thomas Edison. This was his goal, and was way out there for him, because he didn't even know Edison, and was short on money to pay for his rail fare to get him to New Jersey to meet him. Barnes overcame all the obstacles he faced, and Edison described meeting the man he would eventually partner with by recalling the day he arrived. He said, “he stood there before me looking like an ordinary tramp, but there was something in the expression of his face which conveyed the impression that he was determined to get what he had come after.” (Page 2, TAGR). Edison recognized the look in his eyes and it's what allowed him to eventually go into partnership with Barnes, who had no money, or influence to bring to the table, but he did have “initiative, faith and the will to win” (CH 1, page 4, TAGR) which was all Edison needed to see. Barnes thought wildly differently to obtain what he wanted, and Edison picked up the energy or vibration that came from him, and it was easy for him to trust this was going to be a lucrative partnership. There are more important examples in this chapter, that I hope you will read, to see why we should never quit when we experience defeat, and why persistence is a power that often gets a person what they want, but only when one persists long after most people would usually give up. Have you even seen this principle in action? I saw an example of this recently while researching Dr. David Sinclair, who we covered on EPISODE #189[iii] when I uncovered that he had to self-fund his trip from Australia to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to interview to work in their lab, which he did. He didn't let his lack of funds stop him from finding his way to MIT and had many obstacles to overcome when he would eventually begin his work, when he experienced criticism for the direction he wanted to take, when other researchers questioned whether “aging was even a thing”[iv] to study. He had a clear vision of what he wanted and didn't let any obstacles get in his way, even though he faced many that began in his early days and was just something he had to push through. Chapter 2: DESIRE Which brings us to Chapter 2: DESIRE and why we must know what we want, with a crystal-clear vision, and hold an unwavering belief that we can have it, and expect that we will have it, remembering this is where it all begins. That “all achievement, begins with an idea.” (Napoleon Hill). Barnes had a “burning desire” (CH2, page 19 TAGR) that “was not a hope. It was not a wish. It was a pulsating desire, which transcended everything else. It was definite.” (CH2, page 19, TAGR). Barnes wanted to work with Edison, even though there was no evidence of these two meeting. It wasn't like Edison and Barnes had been talking about this idea for a while, it was Barnes's idea, and when he started to move this idea into form, I'm sure he thought it was crazy and something he wouldn't be shouting out from the rooftops. Going from where we are now, to where we want to go, is a process. You are never ready when you start something, but you will never be 100% ready. You just need to start and do the thing that you want to do. When I moved from Canada to the US in early 2001, I remember following this process, and not sure of “how” exactly I was going to do it. Proctor would always remind us that we don't need to know “how” we will do what we want, but just get it started and the way will be shown. That was true. The way will always be shown, along with a billion obstacles that will show up as well, to try to deter you from moving forward. You just need to know WHAT you want and WHY, and this will drive your behavior. You can only explain HOW you did it after the fact, looking back, once you arrive there. Do you know what you want? Do you have that burning desire that Edison saw in Barnes's eyes? Remember, it's difficult to see our own potential, but others can surely see it in us. That burning desire of what you want radiates from you, and others can pick up this energy, and like Edison did with Barnes, help move you to where you need to go. That's why you can't be shy about what you are working on. You will need all the help you can get, from as many different sources as possible. And there's something else to consider. “Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat.” (CH 2, page 21, TAGR). Barnes did this when he found his way to New Jersey to meet with Edison, and Dr. David Sinclair did it when he left Australia for MIT. I remember doing this when I left Toronto. There was no going back saying “oh it didn't work out” because I had burned all ships and had no other options. You must be committed with your decision (which is another chapter) but you will see how all of these chapters tie into each other. The Latin root word for the word decision literally means “to cut” so when you make a decision, you must never go back. You've burned your ships and cut all sources of retreat. Which brings us to the important 6 Steps to Achieve Your Goal in chapter 2. You will notice that these steps are written with the idea of drawing finances to you, but these 6 steps can be used to bring ANY goal your way. These are the 6 steps I have written on my wall, that I read every day, and Grant Cardone, Uncover Billionaire says he does this as well, all 6 steps, every day, twice a day. I've watched him do it using a legal pad of paper in less than 3 minutes. Either way, the 6 steps to put any goal into our non-conscious mind, so that it eventually happens on autopilot, without much effort, is as follows: Write out a clear description of what you want. You must be prepared to give something of value up in return for what you want. There no such thing as “something for nothing.” When you begin working on your action steps, it will become clear what you are giving up. Set a date when you intend to have this goal that you desire. Create your action plan, to carry out what you want, whether you are ready for it or not. Write this out in detail! Read what you wrote twice a day! “As you read, see and feel and believe yourself already in the possession” (CH 2, page 23, TAGR) of what you want. It's this simple, but not really, because most people won't follow these steps. I was surprised when I watched Grant Cardone demonstrating how he WRITES and READS his goals twice a day, mostly because I know where this idea originated from, and most people miss that reading out loud part. Cardone didn't. He knows these six steps and didn't miss one of them. It's easy to read this book, and grab some ideas to implement, and make some mistakes, and not do exactly what the book suggests. That's why it's called “Think and Grow Rich.” Common Mistakes That Are Made When Setting Goals-That Will Guarantee That None of this Will Work? People set goals on what they know they can do, or what they've done in the past. You will be sure to fail this way, because there is no inspiration in going after what we already know we can do. You need to really stretch yourself, and think of what you want, that takes you beyond where you have ever been before in this process. You'll be sure to fail if you don't change your plans when they aren't working. If your Plan A fails, do you have a Plan B? Remember—you don't need to know exactly how you will attain your goal. Just begin, do the work, and eventually you will achieve it, and only then will you be able to explain this process to others. Chapter 2 has some examples of well-known, highly successful people who have put these ideas into action and ends with Hill summarizing the process for us when he says “I want to convey the thought that all achievement, no matter what it's nature or purpose, must begin with an intense, burning desire for something definite. Through some strange and powerful principle of mental chemistry, nature wraps up in the impulse of strong desire that something which recognizes no such word as impossible and accepts no such reality as failure. We must remember that there's a difference between “wishing for” something and being ready to receive it. Remember that look that Edison saw in Barnes's eyes? Do you have that look with whatever it is you want? If I was standing in front of you, and asked you “what do you really want” would you answer this question clearly and confidently, with that look in your eye, and be able to show me how you would use the 6 steps, with your action plan, or would this question catch you off guard, like when Proctor first asked me, and I wasn't prepared to answer it? This brings new meaning to the quote— “Luck is when preparation and opportunity meet.” How? Over time, we become better at what we do. Every day that we write and repeat our vision out loud, it etches deeper into our being. Our vision becomes who we are, and we never let it rest, until we perfect our craft and achieve our goals. Keep going and remember “if a person is not prepared when the opportunity arises, it will only make them look foolish.” (Earl Nightingale). How Do I Overcome my Fears? What happens when you begin moving towards your big, outrageous idea, and FEAR, or DOUBT starts to set in, ruining your vision, and making you want to give up? This will happen. It will happen more times than you'd like. Dr. Sinclair mentioned it happened to him when he finally got to MIT to work on his vision of creating anti-aging strategies and people he worked with challenged his ideas, urging him to reconsider his vision, and that “anti-aging” wasn't a thing to do study. He talked about this on Joe Rogan's podcast that he called home and was worried that he had made a mistake with his vision. It's easy to see HOW this happens, when it's not you who is experiencing the fear. Look at the image in the show notes where you see your INSPIRED IDEA that you are working on with focused thought. I write about this in my first book, The Secret for Teens Revealed[v], and it's something I learned from my early days of working with Proctor. The Terror Barrier or The Change Mechanism To break through to a new level, you will need to break through what Proctor called the Terror Barrier, and I re-named it The Change Mechanism in my first book. It's what happens when you have a major shift in your life, and you begin to feel scared deep inside that maybe you have made a mistake. Your entire Central Nervous System starts to go off as you begin to think of this new thought. I remember feeling this when I quit my teaching job, broke my contact with TDSB and went to work for Proctor for $10 an hour. It didn't help that my Dad screamed at me that I would regret this decision for the rest of my life, but I really did believe that there was more I needed to learn. You will go through these 4 stages with your new idea. Stage 1: Help I'm Stuck (Bondage). When you are here, you are living in your comfort zone. Life is easy, because you are not stretching outside your comfort zone. There is no discomfort or fear. But, if you were to be honest, this type of life is playing it safe. You might know you are capable of so much more, but are afraid to take the necessary steps needed for this change. You are stuck here, in your old paradigm. If you look at the image in the show notes, I show a person who is thinking x thoughts in their conscious mind, with x thoughts in their non-conscious mind, getting x results. They are not doing anything new, and their results will stay the same. We have all been here, stuck, not sure of how to make a change. Stage 2: I'm Frustrated If we live life stuck for too long, you will become frustrated, because it's natural that we want to BE, DO, and HAVE more with our life. We are either creating (expanding) and growing, or we are going the other way, disintegrating, not growing, and frustrated. The feeling of frustration can be motivating, and push you to make a change, and try something different. Stage 3: I'm Making Changes, But Feeling So Uncomfortable At this stage, you have taken a new idea (I label it a Y idea in my diagram) in your conscious mind, but your non-conscious mind still has the old X idea (or whatever you are currently doing) so there is cognitive dissonance at the brain level. The new idea might be a new job, moving somewhere else, or maybe an entire career change, and suddenly, in the middle of the decision-making process, your entire central nervous system goes out of control, and you are overcome with fear. It's because your non-conscious mind is still operating with your old idea, or whatever you are currently doing, and you will think that you have made a mistake and question your decision. At this point, we must understand that the opposite of FEAR is FAITH, leading us to Chapter 3 of the book. We feel fear because we lack understanding, FAITH is based on understanding, and when we have it, we can move forward, and never look back at our old life. We will only advance forward to new opportunity with understanding, and the use of FAITH. It's here that we BREAK FREE from our past, and experience the final stage, Stage 4: Freedom Freedom is achieved when we step outside of our comfort zone, feeling uncomfortable, but doing it anyway, and keep moving towards growth. You'll see in my diagram the Y (or new idea) in the conscious mind, over time will create a Y idea in your non-conscious mind, and with time, you will notice that you made the switch, broke free from your past where you were stuck, into a more fulfilling life, creating new results. You did this using faith that Hill says “is the head chemist of the mind.” (CH 3, page 45, TAGR). How Do We Develop Faith? “Faith is a state of mind that may be induced, or created by affirmations or repeated instructions..through the principle of auto-suggestion” (CH 3, page 46, TAGR). We develop Faith by following the 6 Steps, writing and reading our goal out loud every day, twice a day, until it moves into our non-conscious mind on autosuggestion. It's a process. If you have never read your goal out loud before, I will tell you that it feels weird in the beginning. When I first started doing this activity, I would close my window, thinking my neighbors will think I'm crazy, especially when I did this process trying to win grant funding for some of the projects I worked on. The first time you do this, you will feel weird, until with time, your words flow quickly, confidently, and easily. You will read your goals out loud “as if you were already in possession of them” (CH 3, page 48, TAGR). I found it helps to say something like “I'm so happy and grateful now that….” and whatever it is that you want “now that I'm awarded a $50,000 grant to work with students in our schools” or whatever it is that you might be working on. This is the part where we may all have different beliefs with this process, but if you are like me, and believe that there is something bigger than you, you can call it whatever you want (God, Spirit, Infinite Intelligence) whatever you call it, you will feel it in this process. Hill wrote that “FAITH is the element, the chemical which when mixed with prayer, gives one direct communication with Infinite Intelligence.” (CH 3, page 49, TAGR). We must have FAITH in our DREAMS, not in our DOUBTS. This is a process, that comes from following the 6 steps of reading/writing our goals every day and doesn't need to take a lot of time, Grant Cardone did it in less than 3 minutes. Faith is a state of mind that will develop as you become more self-aware, self-confident and with experience. Remember—to Become Unwavering with our Faith You must go through the Terror Barrier and match up your conscious mind, with your non-conscious mind. You will continue to build faith through autosuggestion when you write and repeat your goals. Pick one idea that you are working on, and as you move towards it, with new actions, you will develop more self-confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem. This will lead to BELIEF….one day you will be working and think back to the early days when you didn't have the level of confidence, faith and belief that you have today, and you will be grateful that you stepped outside of your comfort zone, through the fear, with faith at your side, into a new life that had more opportunity than you ever realized. Whatever it is that you are working on, remember with that understanding you can move past the fears, doubts, and uncertainties to hope, and this changes your entire mindset, giving you faith, fueling you to keep moving forward. I hope you are enjoying studying this book with me as I'm diving deeper into my notes more thoroughly than I've ever done in the past. Some of the wisest people in the world have studied these principles, and it doesn't matter what your background or level of education is. The playing field is equal for all of us. This book is the essence of success that can be used in anyone's life. I'll see you in the next few days as we move onto Specialized Knowledge, Imagination and Organized planning next episode, with an interview coming with Nick Jonsson, from Singapore, the author of the important and timely book, Executive Loneliness: The 5 Pathways to Overcome Isolation, Stress, Anxiety and Depression in the Modern Business World. Napoleon Hill’s famous book THINK AND GROW RICH. It’s the “business bible” of hedge fund managers and other high earning entrepreneurs. This episode takes a look at its teachings. And offers a fresh perspective on how to make its advice more believable in the modern age. Welcome to How to Make More Money, a podcast that helps you get seriously good at the game of making serious money. I'm your host Kelly Hollingsworth, and I'm thrilled you're here today. Today I thought we would dive right in and discuss Napoleon Hill's famous book, THINK AND GROW RICH and specifically how we can take its teachings and dial them up a notch to create a contemporary approach to making money that meets the demands of this century. If you haven't read THINK AND GROW RICH in a while, or if you haven't read it at all, I don't suggest that you rush right out to buy this book. In my mind, there are better books on the subject of making serious money, but I came up in the hedge fund industry and THINK AND GROW RICH is the Bible in that business. So let's not dismiss this book entirely out of hand. Many of the highest earning business owners on the planet love this book for good reasons. So today I'd like to recap it's major lesson and why it's so valuable. And then I'd like to add a few thoughts of my own to help all of us make this idea that you can THINK AND GROW RICH a little more believable and more applicable to a modern business environment. So the book opens with its famous introduction, "Truly, thoughts are things," that's a quote. "Truly, thoughts are things." What Hill means by this is the basic gist of the book that men really do THINK AND GROW RICH. He mentions women too here and there in the book. So women are of course not excluded. If you have a human brain, women included, you can use it to make money. The idea that money is created twice, first in your mind, and then in reality, isn't new, nor is it controversial. We convey this concept in many different ways. Napoleon Hill says, "Thoughts are things, men really do think and grow rich." In the modern parlance of Jack Canfield and others we say, "What you think about you bring about." Brooke Castillo would say that, "Thoughts create results." Ed Seykota says that, "Everyone gets what they want." All of this is super powerful and super helpful, but if you're struggling to make money, believing that money comes from your mind can feel like a tall order. Can you really just think and grow rich? So here, my background is a lawyer is going to come in very handy because the answer is yes, and no. And now I'll explain why. The premise of THINK AND GROW RICH, that thoughts are things and that men truly can think and grow rich is illustrated in the books retelling of the story of Edwin C Barnes. Barnes had a burning desire to become a business associate of the great inventor Thomas Edison. Barnes didn't know Edison and didn't have any money to travel to East Orange, New Jersey where Edison lived, but his desire was definite. So he hopped a freight train, presented himself at Mr. Edison's laboratory and announced he had come to go into business with the inventor. And everyone laughed. And Edison gave him a job sweeping floors for nominal compensation, but Barnes' desire was so great that he kept showing up to the lab and doing the menial work until an opportunity to partner with Edison presented itself. Edison’s salesmen weren't enthusiastic about a new invention called the Edison dictating machine later known as the Ediphone, which is I understand thinks was an early version of the tape recorder. In any case, Barnes was excited about the Ediphone and he stepped in with a plan to distribute this invention. Distribution went well according to THINK AND GROW RICH and Barnes became wealthy as a result of his partnership with Edison. That's the basic story. From it, Hill gleans 13 principles that sum up to the idea that you can use your mind to make serious money. And I first encountered this idea as a 20 something hayseed from Idaho who landed her first real job in the hedge fund industry. Initially, I was a fraud examiner. I flew around the country examining both legit and illegitimate hedge funds, looking for improprieties. And that's where I first began meeting these guys who managed hedge funds and who believed that you can think and grow rich and who worship at the throne of Napoleon Hill. And yes, when I say they were guys, I mean, they were all guys. I'm the only woman I know who has managed her own hedge fund. But in any case, as I said earlier, all these guys think that their Bible is THINK AND GROW RICH. That's the Bible of that business. And at the time when they were sharing this idea with me, I hadn't read the book and it made perfect sense to me that this idea you can think and grow rich would work for hedge fund managers because what do hedge fund managers do? They think about what to do in the market, and if they think that in the right direction, i.e. to buy when the market's going up, or sell when it's going down, then they do make money. They do get rich. It wasn't until later, this made sense to me initially, it wasn't until later when I actually sat down to read the book that I realized that the idea of think and grow rich was intended by the book to apply not just to hedge fund managers, the book was intended to apply to everyone no matter what business you're in. And that was a head scratcher for me. And here's why. If all you're doing is trading financial instruments, it's just you versus the market's direction, what's in your mind is all that matters. However you play it, buy low and sell high or sell high and buy low, trading is a one person game. Yes, of course, there's someone on the other side of the trade who's selling the financial instrument that you're buying or buying what you're selling. But as long as there's liquidity in the market and a stock or a futures exchange between the two of you, you don't have to know them and they don't have to know you for a transaction to occur. They don't even have to agree with you. And they don't agree with you. They're taking the other side of the trade. So it's necessarily the case that they don't agree with you. So if you're a trader and not an entrepreneur, you could live in a cave, never come into contact with another human soul and do just fine making money with your own thinking and a working internet connection. But business is different. When we're talking, not about trading financial instruments, but about selling goods or services in the marketplace, then what happens? We see that business is a two person game. It takes a customer to make money in commerce. So what's in your mind isn't all that matters when you're an entrepreneur. When it takes two to tango, you don't just need to worry about your own thoughts, you need to worry about the other person's thoughts. What your customer is thinking. Does he or she agree to buy from you or not? Do your prospects need or desire what you sell or not? When we think about business as a two person game, as the two person game that it is, this is where it becomes readily apparent that the power of one mind, your own in entrepreneurship, isn't going to be enough to get you there. In commerce, money doesn't come from your mind all by itself, but rather from a meeting of the minds between buyer and seller. Which brings me to a joke I have loved since I saw it in a standup comedians act years, or maybe even decades ago. I don't remember when it was, I don't remember his name, but I'll never forget what he said. He talked about going away to college for his freshman year and when he came home after the first semester, he told his dad, "I've decided to major in philosophy." And he said that "This is of course every parent's dream." His dad thought about this for a minute and then said to his son, "Hmm, why don't you get a double major in communications? Because then you'll be able to think out loud." Why did the dad in the joke recognize the need for his son to be able to think out loud? Because he doesn't want his son living in the basement. The moment the kid says philosophy with no other skills attached to it, the dad gets a vision of the kid living in the basement, perhaps forever. It's instantly and abundantly clear to this father with all his common sense, that mindset isn't enough. If his kid is going to make any money, he can't just think, he has to be able to think out loud and do it well enough for others to want to buy whatever it is that he's selling. This is the missing piece that has always bothered me about the story of Edwin C. Barnes and his partnership with Edison in the book, THINK AND GROW RICH. To be fair, Hill addresses the need for a meeting of the minds in the first few pages of the book. He doesn't use those words, but there's an excerpt in the book in which Hill describes what Edison had to say years after his first encounter with Barnes. Here's a quote. Edison is being quoted here. "He stood there before me looking like an ordinary tramp, but there was something in the expression of his face which conveyed the impression that he was determined to get what he had come after. I had learned from years of experience with men that when a man really desires a thing so deeply that he is willing to stake his entire future on a single turn of the wheel in order to get it, he is sure to win. I gave him the opportunity he asked for because I saw he had made up his mind to stand by until he succeeded. Subsequent events proved that no mistake was made." That's the end of the quote. That's Edison talking. Of this quote by Edison, Napoleon Hill goes on to say, "Just what young Barnes said to Mr. Edison on that occasion was far less important than what he thought. Edison himself said so. It could not have been the young man's appearance, which got him his start in Edison's office, for that was definitely against him. It was what he thought that counted. If the significance of this statement could be conveyed to every person who reads it, there would be no need for the remainder of this book." I agree that it's a significant statement. What Barnes thought when he met Edison, mattered. So let's repeat this part to make sure it sinks in. "Just what young Barnes said to Mr. Edison on that occasion was far less important than that which he thought. Edison himself said so." With this, I wholeheartedly agree. Belief in your product comes first. Without it what you say isn't going to help you much if at all but let's not forget something really important. Edison's quote that I just read to you about his first encounter with Barnes occurred years after their first meeting and years after their fruitful partnership. With the benefit of hindsight, Edison could recast that story and essentially say something along the lines of "Yes, of course I knew I was going to go into business with Barnes. I took one look at him and I knew he meant business." And this is essentially what he did say. And I quote, "When a man really desires a thing so deeply that he is willing to stake his entire future on a single turn of the wheel in order to get it, he is sure to win. I gave him the opportunity that he asked for." But is that what really happened in the famous first encounter between Barnes and Edison? Did Barnes walk into the lab with that thought, I'm going into partnership with Edison, looking like an ordinary tramp and who knows what he actually said and get what he wanted. Was just the thought enough to get it done? No. In that first encounter, the thought was not enough. Barnes did not get the opportunity he asked for. He wanted a partnership with Edison. And in that first encounter, he received not a partnership, but a broom. Today in many businesses around the world, if this encounter happened just as it's described in THINK AND GROW RICH, Barnes would have gotten not a broom, but the boot. So what can we glean from this? What you think matters. Your belief, a product of your brain matters. But why does it matter? If you don't believe, your buyer won't either. So belief is important because it's a big contributor to creating that all important meeting of the minds that is inherent in every commercial transaction. But here's the thing, it's necessary but insufficient. Mindset is what got Barnes in the door. It got him a job sweeping floors. What got him the partnership with Edison was not mindset, but the message of how he was going to distribute the Ediphone. That's what sealed the deal. So it's not just enough to be able to think. You also have to be able to think out loud and to do so well enough that it creates a meeting of the minds between you and your buyer. What I'd like you to take from this is that if you want to make money and you're not trading your own money using stocks or derivatives or doing something else that you can do all by yourself in the comfort of your cave, if you are instead in business and you want some clients to buy the amazing product or service that you're offering, what's in your mind, isn't all that matters. Mindset plus message equals money. That's the formula because people can't read your mind. What people hear in your message is what causes them to buy, not just what's in your mind. So that's what I have for you today my friends. The foundation of our work in the show is going to be based on the formula, mindset plus message equals money. So stay tuned for more on how to do that and thank you for being here today.

This episode is sponsored by George Wensley Hello and welcome to Film Pro Productivity, the podcast that helps film professionals and other creatives to live a more focused, effective and HAPPY life. My name is Carter Ferguson and this is EPISODE 45 – THE LAW OF SUCCESS IN 16 LESSONS: PART 6 This is the final episode of this special interconnected series within the series focusing on Napoleon Hill’s powerful book THE LAW OF SUCCESS IN 16 LESSONS. In whatever walk of life you are in, WANTING TO BE SUCCESSFUL is a universal theme that I felt vital to explore here on the show and this book based on Napoleon Hills own lecture tour I felt was the key to it’s delivery. Now if you’ve not yet heard the previous shows on this topic then I’d strongly advise you to go back and listen to episodes 40 through 44 before listening to this one. Seriously, go back now and get listening, or you will not get the best out of this series. The content in these shows has been my interpretation or direct quotation of NAPOLEON HILL’s words from the book with here and there a sprinkling of information gleaned from Hill’s later life. The main change I make in all of this is in neutralising the gender every now and again simply because I want to make the lessons as accessible for today’s audience as Hill intended it to be in 1928. As proven by Lesson 15, Hill was all about tolerance, equality and inclusion and he wouldn’t want his words of 1928 to be misinterpreted as something intolerant to the ear of a 21st century audience. Before I proceed to THE GOLDEN RULE let me once again start with this. WHATEVER THE MIND CAN CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE THE MIND CAN ACHIEVE. Now I’ve used this phrase to precede every lesson so far, but every chapter except LESSON 4 actually begins with these words "You Can Do It if You Believe You Can!" - I deliberately changed it to Hill’s later phrasing WHATEVER THE MIND CAN CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE THE MIND CAN ACHIEVE as I believe he would have wished it to be so. Bearing that in mind let me proceed to the 16th and final lesson in Napoleon Hill’s LAWS OF SUCCESS book. That which you do not wish for yourself, DO NOT IMPOSE ON OTHERS. Umar UNQUOTE LESSON 16 - THE GOLDEN RULE: This lesson is the Guiding Star that will enable you to profitably and constructively use the KNOWLEDGE assembled in the preceding lessons. This philosophy of THE GOLDEN RULE is simply this "DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WISH THEM TO DO UNTO YOU." Put another way DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WISH THEM TO DO UNTO YOU IF YOUR POSITIONS WERE REVERSED. Hill wants us to understand one thing very clearly here: That there is more power wrapped up in the previous lessons of this course than most could trust themselves with; therefore, this lesson is what Hill refers to as the - GOVERNOR – or LIMITER - that will enable YOU TO STEER YOURSELF SAFELY DOWN THE PATHWAY OF ALL THOSE WHO COME SUDDENLY INTO POSSESSION OF POWER. The rule is as old as time itself. It’s how we regulate our behaviour in civilised society and it’s the rock on which we build strength of character, as YOUR CHARACTER is but the sum total of your thoughts and deeds! Socrates said it this way DO NOT DO TO OTHERS what angers you IF DONE TO YOU BY OTHERS. Hill asks a question of this which you may have already been thinking and which those of us who just blindly accept such statements would not. He asks it as he has honed the art of accurate thinking within himself… The question he asks is why. WHY? What is the real reason for this kindly consideration of others? His conclusion after years of study is this – That there is an eternal law which simply says WE REAP THAT WHICH WE SOW, also expressed as: AS YOU SOW, SO SHALL YOU REAP. In more modern speak we may say, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND or in simpler terms once again, THAT YOU MUST EVENTUALLY FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS. Hill states that not only is it advisable to “do unto others as you wish them to do unto you,” but to avail yourself fully of the benefits of this great Universal Law you must also “think of others as you wish them to think of you.” as the law upon which the Golden Rule is based begins affecting you, either for good or evil, the moment you release a thought. As usual here Hill gives many examples of this law in action but he also warns us that a passive attitude toward it will you bring no results; IT IS NOT ENOUGH, he says, merely to believe in this philosophy, while, at the same time, FAILING TO APPLY IT IN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS. If you want results you must take an active attitude toward the Golden Rule. A mere passive attitude, represented by belief in its soundness, will simply do you no good. Richard Branson believes in this principle. He says “Play fair, be prepared for others to play dirty, and don't let them drag you into the mud.” Which is a pretty awesome line in the modern tongue. What Hill is doing in this lesson though is ensuring that our character remains sound. Perhaps you have wondered, he says, why the subject of honesty has not been mentioned in this course, as a prerequisite to success, and, if so, the answer will be found here in this lesson. The Golden Rule philosophy, when rightly understood and applied, makes dishonesty IMPOSSIBLE. It does more than this – it makes impossible all the other destructive qualities such as selfishness, greed, envy, bigotry, hatred and malice. When you apply the Golden Rule, you become, at one and the same time, both the judge and the judged - the accused and the accuser. This places one in a position in which honesty begins in one’s own heart, toward one’s self, and extends to all others with equal effect. He presents in this lesson A CODE OF ETHICS to allow us to more concretely embody the law on which the golden rule is based. In full this reads as follows: 1. I believe in the Golden Rule as the basis of all human conduct; therefore, I will never do to another person that which I would not be willing for that person to do to me if our positions were reversed. 2. I will be honest, even to the slightest detail, in all my transactions with others, not alone because of my desire to be fair with them, but because of my desire to impress the idea of honesty on my own subconscious mind, thereby weaving this essential quality into my own character. 3. I will forgive those who are unjust toward me, with no thought as to whether they deserve it or not, because I understand the law through which forgiveness of others strengthens my own character and wipes out the effects of my own transgressions, in my subconscious mind. 4. I will be just, generous and fair with others always, even though I know that these acts will go unnoticed and unrecorded, in the ordinary terms of reward, because I understand and intend to apply the law through the aid of which one’s own character is but the sum total of one’s own acts and deeds. 5. Whatever time I may have to devote to the discovery and exposure of the weaknesses and faults of others I will devote, more profitably, to the discovery and correction of my own. 6. I will slander no person, no matter how much I may believe another person may deserve it, because I wish to plant no destructive suggestions in my own subconscious mind. 7. I recognize the power of Thought as being an inlet leading into my brain from the universal ocean of life; therefore, I will set no destructive thoughts afloat upon that ocean lest they pollute the minds of others. 8. I will conquer the common human tendency toward hatred, and envy, and selfishness, and jealousy, and malice, and pessimism, and doubt, and fear; for I believe these to be the seed from which the world harvests most of its troubles. 9. When my mind is not occupied with thoughts that tend toward the attainment of my definite chief aim in life, I will voluntarily keep it filled with thoughts of courage, and self-confidence, and goodwill toward others, and faith, and kindness, and loyalty, and love for truth, and justice, for I believe these to be the seed from which the world reaps its harvest of progressive growth. 10. I understand that a mere passive belief in the soundness of the Golden Rule philosophy is of no value whatsoever, either to myself or to others; therefore, I will actively put into operation this universal rule for good in all my transactions with others. 11. I understand the law through the operation of which my own character is developed from my own acts and thoughts; therefore, I will guard with care all that goes into its development. 12. Realizing that enduring happiness comes only through helping others find it; that no act of kindness is without its reward, even though it may never be directly repaid, I will do my best to assist others when and where the opportunity appears. As Hill nears the end of this lesson and the book itself he raises the point that “There are people who believe that the Golden Rule philosophy is nothing more than a theory and that it is in no way connected with an immutable law.” Mike Michalowicz of ENTREPRENEURSHIP MADE SIMPLE, explains that IMMUTABLE LAWS are the rules of our lives. They define you. They define your business. They are a blend of ethics, core values and self-assigned law, all wrapped up into one. They are the rules we have defined for ourselves, almost subconsciously, on what is RIGHT and what is WRONG. Here he touches upon something which I raised just a few weeks ago in my episode DON’T DO ME A FAVOUR - They have arrived at this conclusion, he says, because of personal experience wherein they rendered service to others without enjoying the benefits of direct reciprocation. When I created that episode and DISCUSSED THE LAW OF RECIPROCITY, I didn’t know at the time that Napoleon Hill had ventured into the same territory so I’m going to give it a little time here. Hill says: How many are there who have rendered service to others that were neither reciprocated nor appreciated? I am sure that I have had such an experience, not once, but many times, and I am equally sure that I will have similar experiences in the future. I, however, will not discontinue rendering service to others merely because they neither reciprocate nor appreciate my efforts. This is quite interesting to me as I did at one point discontinue a service to someone to whom I passed work that I couldn’t do myself. I woke up one day though as I had received a complaint about them, following my recommendation, and I realised in that instant that my goodwill had never been reciprocated during that whole time. Whether I stopped my recommendations because it was never reciprocated or whether I stopped it because a complaint came back to me is not something I’ve considered but it was probably a bit of both. Napolean Hill’s reasoning is as follows: When I render service to another, or indulge in an act of kindness, I store away in my sub-conscious mind the effect of my efforts, which may be likened to the “charging” of an electric battery. By and by, if I indulge in a sufficient number of such acts I will have developed a positive, dynamic character that will attract to me people who harmonize with or resemble my own character. Those whom I attract will reciprocate the acts of kindness and the service that I have rendered others, thus the LAW OF COMPENSATION will have balanced the scales of justice for me, bringing back through one source the results of service which I rendered to an entirely different one. The LAW OF COMPENSATION incidentally was proposed by Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his essay, "Compensation," – He wrote that EACH PERSON IS COMPENSATED IN LIKE MANNER FOR THAT WHICH HE OR SHE HAS CONTRIBUTED. The Law of Compensation is another restatement of the Law of Sowing and Reaping. The Golder Rule. Nothing in the Golden Rule says that others will treat us as we have treated them. It only says that we must treat others in a way that we would want to be treated. Rosa Parks UNQUOTE Hill asks If someone should fail to reciprocate your kindness - what then? He answers that We have profited, nonetheless, because of the effect of our act on our own subconscious mind! This is, of course, an extension of Hill’s belief in the habit of AUTO SUGGESTION and it’s exactly what I was talking about in my episode on favours. DON’T DO A FAVOUR IN EXPECTATION OF RETURN OF THAT FAVOUR. Give it freely and in time your kindness will be repaid. If you need further proof that the GOLDEN RULE is worth your time and effort, consider how your hostile or unkind acts toward others bring back the effects of retaliation which is usually definite and immediate. THE LAW OF RETALIATION is more widely known as "An eye for an eye" This habit is a form of POSITIVE THOUGHT which develops in you a DYNAMIC PERSONALITY and feeds your SELF CONFIDENCE. It will help you to ATTRACT the forces you require to reach your DEFINITE CHIEF AIM. Summing Up It will hardly come as surprise to you that have stayed the course of all 6 episodes in which I delve into Napoleon Hill’s LAW OF SUCCESS that I am now about to recap on all of the lessons that have been presented. I’ll let the words of Mr Hill take you forward into this. You have now arrived at the point at which you should take inventory of yourself for the purpose of ascertaining what qualities you need - to give you a well-balanced and rounded out personality. Fifteen major factors entered into the building of this course. I ask you to ANALYZE YOURSELF CAREFULLY, with the assistance of one or more others if you feel that you need it, for the purpose of ascertaining in which of the fifteen factors of this course you are the weakest, and then CONCENTRATE YOUR EFFORTS UPON THOSE PARTICULAR LESSONS until you HAVE FULLY DEVELOPED THAT WHICH THEY REPRESENT. In the introduction Hill thanks ANDREW CARNEGIE, who suggested the writing of the course, and HENRY FORD, whose astounding achievements form the foundation for practically all of the Sixteen Lessons contained within. Finally he singles out EDWIN C. BARNES, a business associate of THOMAS EDISON, whose close personal friendship over a period of more than fifteen years served to help the author “carry on” in the face of a great variety of adversities and much temporary defeat which he had met with. In summary then, THE LAW OF SUCCESS is as follows. LESSON 1 – The "MASTER MIND": is an invisible stronger third mind, developed through friendly alliance, in a spirit of harmony of purpose, between two or more minds. No two or more minds ever met without creating, out of the contact, another mind. This invisible creation is not always a "Master Mind." Though - That ONLY forms when two or more people work together in harmony of purpose and effort. LESSON 2 – A DEFINITE CHIEF AIM: You must do away forever with aimlessness and fix your heart and hand upon some definite, well-conceived purpose. In your struggle for success, you should keep constantly in mind the necessity of knowing what it is that you want - Know precisely what your definite purpose is - utilise the principle of organized effort in the attainment of that DEFINITE PURPOSE. If you don’t know where you are going, then you’re never going to get there. LESSON 3 - SELF CONFIDENCE: Believe that you are worthy of success and that you can attain it. Without truly understanding this - you will probably get nowhere with most of your goals. If you are not confident, then you cannot sell yourself in life. LESSON 4 - THE HABIT OF SAVING: Formation of the Habit of Saving not only conserves that which you earn, in a systematic manner, but it also places you in the way of greater opportunity and gives you the vision, the self-confidence, the imagination, the enthusiasm, the initiative and leadership to actually increase your earning capacity. Amongst other things if you are trying to develop a HABIT OF SAVING then you must learn to kill the habit of unnecessary spending. LESSON 5: INITIATIVE AND LEADERSHIP – Initiative is DOING THE RIGHT THING WITHOUT BEING TOLD. Leadership is essential for the attainment of Success, but Initiative is the very foundation upon which this necessary quality is built. LESSON 6 - IMAGINATION: You will never have a definite purpose in life, you will never have self-confidence, and you will never have initiative and leadership unless you first create these qualities in your imagination and see yourself in possession of them. LESSON 7 - ENTHUSIASM: A state of mind that inspires and arouses one to put action into the task at hand - it is contagious, and vitally affects not only the enthusiast, but all with whom he comes in contact. LESSON 8 – SELF CONTROL: When you take control over the thoughts you are thinking, then you can take control of your success. SELF-DISCIPLINE IS THE MOST ESSENTIAL FACTOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONAL POWER, because LACK OF IT works hardships on those who become its victims, and THOSE WHO DO NOT EXERCISE IT suffer the loss of a great power which they could use in the achievement of their DEFINITE CHIEF AIM. LESSON 9 – THE HABIT OF DOING MORE THAN PAID FOR: If you are going to whine about your work, then you are not going anywhere. Do the work you have in front of you, then ask what else you may do. By doing this, you make yourself valuable, and you will surely reach a point where you are being paid handsomely. Valuable employees are... valuable. This is also and especially true when you are working for yourself. LESSON 10 - PLEASING PERSONALITY: His advice is have one, and if you don’t have one, cultivate one. Mediocrity does not care if you are pleasant or not. Success DOES. LESSON 11 - ACCURATE THOUGHT: Separate facts from mere information. Then separate facts into two classes; the IMPORTANT and the UNIMPORTANT, or, the RELEVANT and the IRRELEVANT. All facts which will aid you to any extent whatsoever in the attainment of your definite chief aim are important and relevant; All that you cannot use are unimportant and irrelevant. LESSON 12 - CONCENTRATION: "Concentration is the act of focusing the mind upon a given desire until the ways and means for its realization have been worked out and successfully put into operation" LESSON 13 –COOPERATION: The implementation of cooperation between yourself and others who are going to help you get to your goal. Cooperation must also exist between your conscious and subconscious mind so that they may work harmoniously in your favour. LESSON 14 – FAILURE: Yes! Fail, and be happy that it is bringing you one step closer to success. Failure is inevitable, and it is a great step towards the right direction. Replace "failure" with "temporary defeat". LESSON 15 –TOLERANCE: Don't practice prejudice or racism. It is IGNORANCE, and it is a barrier to success. Just see the best in people and situations, and focus only on your goal and the good for all. And finally LESSON 16 – THE GOLDEN RULE: “Do unto others as you wish them to do unto you,” and to avail yourself fully of the benefits of this great Universal Law you must also “think of others as you wish them to think of you.” As the law upon which the Golden Rule is based begins affecting you, either for good or evil, the moment you release a thought. Call To Action Your call to action today is not only CONSIDER THE GOLDEN RULE but to take up this challenge which Hill lays out: Analyze yourself carefully, with the assistance of one or more other persons if you feel that you need it, for the purpose of ascertaining in which of the fifteen factors detailed in this course you are the weakest, and then concentrate your efforts upon those particular lessons until you have fully developed that which they represent. I will make my breakdown of the 16 lessons I just went through available through the official website as a PDF download, so go there as a starting point.
