How to identify CamGuard in an oil analysis, erratic idles, how to check the oil, and what the wrong prop does to an engine are on tap for the latest episode. Email podcasts@aopa.org for a chance to be on the show. Join the world's largest aviation community at aopa.org/join Full notes below: Tan has a 1968 Piper Arrow 180. He has an erratic idle as the engine warms. Mike and Paul said it sounds like maybe sticky valves. He and his mechanic haven't done the wobble test. It almost can't be a spark plug, Mike said. Colleen said it could be an ignition harness. Paul suggest he could do an in-flight mag check to help verify. Even though it should start with morning sickness, Paul said it's not unlikely that it's a sticky valve. Fuel could also be an issue, as they've cleaned the injectors, which Mike, Paul, and Colleen think they induces more problems than it solves. Dicky is concerned about his last oil analysis report. Some of his wear metals are much higher since he's been using CamGuard, and he's wondering whether that's normal. High calcium and high phosphorus are CamGuard's signatures on an oil analysis, according to Mike. One thing Mike noticed that Dicky didn't ask about was high silica, indicating dirt in the engine. High silica usually brings high wear metals because the dirt acts to scrub the cylinders. Dicky said he had a problem with his air filter box, and had replaced a part. Enock is trying to settle a flight school debate. He checked the oil and the instructor asked if he screwed the dipstick back in when checking it, or if he just tapped the stick to the top of the tube. Everyone he asked at the school had a different answer. Paul said he screws it back in to check. Colleen agrees. Mike said all the readings should be taken with a grain of salt. He recommends running about two-thirds full. Many type certificate data sheets have a minimum level. And the only somewhat accurate reading is the first one of the day when the oil has time to fully drain back into the sump. Rex is doing his best to follow the hosts' leaning guidance. He has an RV-8 with an IO-360 engine with high compression pistons and e-mags and a fixed pitch propeller. He isn't able to lean full throttle, but he can at cruise power. Mike clarifies that the guidance to leave the throttle full forward was for constant-speed propellers. Operating lean of peak slows the combustion event. The flame front takes longer to propagate. Engines don't like lean of peak if the rpm is too high because the faster speed of the engine doesn't like the disparity. Mike said he lowers rpm while keeping the throttle full before he leans. Then Rex makes an off-handed comment about his prop pitch, which the hosts quickly pick up on. They are convinced he has the wrong prop. He's only getting 2400 rpm at full power in cruise. He also had a denotation event, and is trying to determine what the normal timing is supposed to be.

[00:07:01] Ruth explains the key differences between project and event badging. [00:13:21] Enock explains the role of bots in automating parts of the badging process, but notes that event badging involves a more hands-on review by human reviewers to ensure the credibility of the DEI assessment. [00:15:23] Adeyinka discusses the importance of DEI badging for open source maintainers and contributors. [00:17:23] Adeyinka provides a step-by-step guide on how to apply for project and event badges and explains how maintainers need to create a DEI.md file with metrics, and support is available for applicants who need help during the process. Enock & Sue, a former nurse, shared that he and his co-founder Sue developed the platform for their home care agency, drawing from their experiences in the healthcare industry. Both expressed a shared interest in improving home care for an aging population and creating a home environment for those receiving care.     Enock & Sue's Home Care Agency and Software Enock & Sue shared their observations about elderly patients returning to the hospital due to a lack of support at home. He identified the need for in-home care services and founded a home care agency in 2016. Enock & Sue also highlighted the challenges his agency faced with existing software for home care agencies, which could have been more cohesive and efficient. In response, they developed Care Growth AI software to streamline their operations and improve care for their clients. The ultimate goal of this software is to reduce human errors, save time, and provide better care.     Leveraging Technology for Home Care Efficiency Enock, Sue, and Michael discussed the importance of leveraging technology to streamline administrative tasks in in-home care agencies. Michael highlighted the challenges clinicians face, who spend too much time on paperwork and compliance, leaving little time for patient care. Enock & Sue introduced Carego, an AI-powered assistant that automates administrative tasks, freeing up time for caregivers to focus on patients. They agreed that this technology not only improves efficiency but also enhances the quality of patient care.     Preparing for Aging Population and Home-Based Care Michael highlighted the importance of preparing for an aging population and the increasing need for home-based care. He pointed out the importance of technology in allowing providers to focus on caregiving while operations are streamlined. Michael stressed the need to recruit new people continuously to meet increasing demand, advising against "growing up" to maintain a youthful attitude.     Elder Care Platform and Collaboration Michael expressed his appreciation for Enock & Sue's work in elder care, highlighting the importance of their platform. Enock & Sue informed Michael that more information about their work and upcoming training could be found on their website, caregood.ai. Cuida mucho tu sacerdocio».

In this episode, we discuss the impact of climate change on African food production with Enock Chikava, the Interim Director for the Agricultural Development Department at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Global Take Podcast Host, Alexanderia Haidara, spoke with Mr. Chikava on the heels of the 2022 Goalkeepers Summit that took place in New York City on September 20-21, 2022. In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development to achieve a better world by 2030. Started by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Goalkeepers is a catalyst for action toward these goals—bringing together leaders from around the world to make progress toward ending poverty and fighting inequality. Goalkeepers is dedicated to accelerating progress toward the Global Goals: using powerful stories, data, and partnerships to highlight progress achieved, and bring together a diverse range of leaders to address the world's major challenges. Chikava highlighted the importance of building a robust agricultural economy in Africa, the demand for climate resistance seeds for food production, investing in women's agriculture businesses, and intra-Africa trade as the solution for Africa to become a breadbasket for the world. About Enock Chikava Enock Chikava leads the foundation's work to reduce poverty for millions of farming families in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia by promoting inclusive agricultural innovations that drive productivity and income growth for smallholder farmers in a sustainable way. He joined the foundation in April 2015 as a senior program officer focusing on crop innovations. Enock trained in Agricultural Economics and Business Strategy, with 30-years' experience in agriculture. His career spans from farmer organizations, private sector seed industry, agribusiness, food processing, and now philanthropy. Enock Chikava is a board member of the African Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) and former president of the African Seed Trade Association (AFSTA). He was raised on a smallholder farm in Zimbabwe in a family of eleven and has dedicated his life to working towards smallholder farmers' success as they use technology to raise productivity, incomes, nutrition, and economically empower themselves. In this episode we'll be talking to Enock Chitheka – a brother from Malawi who now lives in Gilbert, Arizona and studies at Grand Canyon University. This was such and amazing conversation that we completely lost track of time…so, we are going to divide it into two episodes. In Part 1, we talk about things like the culture shock he experienced after moving to the United States, the differences in the communal culture of Malawi versus the individualistic culture of the US. But the most amazing part of this conversation is hearing Enock talk about his father and his mother, and the indelible, eternal impression they made on his life that defines him to this day.

In this episode Enock tells the story of how his mother, father and sister nearly died in 2020…and the miraculous provisions that saved their lives. There's something unique about this episode…our cameras kept rolling to capture the powerful and encouraging conversation after our “conversation”.
