In recent years, he devoted countless hours to obtaining the Institute for Functional Medicine Certification.  This certification places him within a small group of regional practitioners who have completed the entire program.  At Sanctuary you will find the best of the conventional medical field combined with the best of Functional Medicine.Beyond the science, Dr. Potter has personally experienced healthcare crises from both sides of care–as a physician and as a family member to patients. Working within our broken healthcare system and taking his family members through that same system inspired him to look for new ways to deliver the quality of healthcare he envisioned.  Stepping out of the insurance-based model of medicine allows him to provide whole person care in longer visits.  Providing wholesale pricing on lab tests and supplements removes the profit motive for these services, allowing patients to trust his recommendations.  Practicing Functional Medicine allows him to treat root causes rather than superficial symptoms. He endeavors to be the patient's trusted advocate with the goal of restoring a healthier more abundant life.Connect with Dr. Eric Potterhttps://sanctuaryfunctionalmedicine.com/about-us/meet-our-team/

CVASPS Podcast, Strength and Conditioning Info From The Worlds Top Sport Performance and Physical Preparation Practitioners

“Us as performance professionals, strength and conditioning coaches, we need to take our ego out of it and be an ally and resource for our athletes and allow them to be the driver a bit.” What’s up everybody and welcome the 93rd episode of Outside The Rack brought to you by Kinetic Performance the makers of Gymaware. In this show we are going to try to dive a little deeper into the minds of the top practitioners in the world of sport performance to learn a bit more about who they actually are and how they got to where they are at today. Today we are joined by the Associate Director for Sports Performance at Old Dominion University, Eric Potter. Eric, thanks for being with us today. Before we start, who is Eric Potter? A person who got into training to improve as a baseball player. With that I’m a father and a husband who’s trying to make a positive impact on people’s health. 1) Describe a learning situation that brought about an epiphany in your career? Seeing Bartolo Colon in spring training and seeing how skill trumps all taught me to be more of an ally and a resource. 2) If you could ask one question and you know you would get the answer what would that be and why? If you viewed yourself as a business, would other people invest in it? 3) What’s your escape? Spending time with my wife and daughter, cooking/training, and learning about new things outside of just training. Enjoy the content? Then you should check out The Strength Coach Network! BEHIND THE LENS #297: Featuring Stephen Janis, Deanne Foley and Latonia Hartery

Behind The Lens

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 15, 2021 71:01

It's a full house this week on #BTLRadioShow thanks to our special guests, filmmakers STEPHEN JANIS, DEANNE FOLEY, and LATONIA HARTERY. Plus, some quick review bytes on two new films streaming everywhere right now – ME YOU MADNESS and PARADISE COVE. One of my fave films of the year already is ME YOU MADNESS, written and directed by LOUISE LINTON and starring Linton and Ed Westwick. Irreverant, politically incorrect, high octane, glamorous, breaking the fourth, rapier wit-filled darkly comedic action movie love story, ME YOU MADNESS is delicious dark decadent fun from start to finish. Linton shows good command as not only a wordsmith, but as a storyteller (much of which I believe we can credit to her trial advocacy skills as a lawyer) is well constructed and structured. Visually, Linton knocks it out of the park with polish and color thanks to cinematographers Reinhart Reschke and Boa Simon, whose lighting and lensing only serve to elevate the already sumptuous production design of Allura Johnson and Travis Zariwny, while editor Samuel Means maintains high octane energy, most notably in some over-the-top musical montages set to touchstone needle drops of the past few decades. (I want the soundtrack.) And then there's PARADISE COVE. Written by Sherry Klein and directed by Martin Guigi, PARADISE COVE stars veteran actors Todd Grinnell, Mena Suvari, and Kristin Bauer van Straten in this psychological thriller genre blend based on a true story. Van Straten stars as Bree, a once-wealthy Malibu matriarch and actress who has lost her home but refuses to leave the Paradise Cove colony, now living on the beach underneath her once home. Grinnell and Suvari are Knox and Tracey, a young married couple looking to get rich quick by flipping the Malibu beach home of Knox's recently deceased mother. Of course, that home was once Bree's and under which Knox and Tracey find her. Performances are solid with van Straten soaring as Bree. And while the script itself is unremarkable and easily fills the bill as a Lifetime TV movie versus a "theatrical" release film, elevating the film as a whole is Guigi's direction and his collaboration with DP Massimo Zeri, production designer Alessandro Marvelli (who uses color and texture to define and distinguish the character traits of our principals) and editor Eric Potter, the latter who delivers some truly shocking moments thanks to abrupt emotional cuts. Co-directors DEANNE FOLEY and LATONIA HARTERY join us live in the first half of the show talking about their charming and sweet anthology narrative about love and romance, HOPELESS ROMANTIC. Six women, six stories about love, all told within the setting of a wedding complete with the good, the bad, and the ugly cry. You laugh, you cry, you nod your head in sympathy, and by film's end you may even find yourself more of a "hopeful" romantic than not. Deanne directs one of the "segments" as well as the umbilical throughline while Latonia is not only one of the directors but a producer of the film which meant she was on hand for virtually all of the filming. Listen as Deanne and Latonia talk about the genesis of this anthology, collaboration amongst all six female directors, crafting characters and casting, diversity of characters, finding cohesive yet individually distinctive tone, using one cinematographer and one editor for the entire film and each segment, scoring, and let's not forget, the wealth of talent in the Nova Scotia area who we see on screen and behind the lens. Joining us at the midpoint of the show for a fascinating conversation about his documentary, THE FRIENDLIEST TOWN, is STEPHEN JANIS. An award-winning investigative journalist, author, musician, and now writer/co-director/editor of the documentary, Steph. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

“We don’t have to guard the weight room the whole day, you should spend time working yourself.” “If we want a certain thing, we have to set ourselves up for success. So, if you want a certain guy to jump higher he needs to jump more. If you want a certain guy to shoot better he needs to shoot more. And trying to make it more complex than it actually needs to be is just setting everyone up for failure.” This episode of The Podcast is brought to you by Exxentric, the makers of the kBox and kPulley. In this week’s episode of The Podcast I get the opportunity to talk about taking care of ourselves off the court and using those lessons to connect with athletes, with ODU’s Eric Potter. After a quick run-down of how Eric got down to Norfolk we get into what financial literacy is to him, why it’s important, and how we both got into looking into this subject. This leads us into the discussion of being more time efficient and looking at doing better with the time we have and scheduling for what we really do, not just guarding the weight room. We finish off talking about how important it is to keep things simple and moving towards the specific goals of the moment both in training and in life. Enjoy the content? Ryan sweats at anything hotter than ketchup, and Michelle won’t even eat restaurant salsa. Most of the dads like spicy food.Warmup act: Executive Producer Michael Mauro sent some Japanese chocolates, they’re all different types and flavors.Teeg has been catching flack for wearing the quick-dry zip off cargo pants. Truly the ultimate dad pant.Ryan insinuates that Cargo Pants went out of style.Michelle supports the cargo pant but thinks the cargo convertible is the worst of both worlds.Turns out the Japanese Chocolates were really good. They were surprisingly American. No weird flavors, plenty of sugar, bunch of tasty little flavors. For spicy food antidotes, we have an assortment of milk, fudgesicles, water, lemon juice, and beer. It’s Teeg’s 20th wedding anniversary. He shaves his head and his great idea was to do the Circle Beard to celebrate Amy … the secret to a long lived marriage is supposed to be if you can keep her laughing.* Stop what you are doing and Google “Circle Beard” *Teeg should have gotten her a trophy for our 20th anniversary. We got these from our friend Rick Riley and his friend Vijay who said they were like eating an electric fence soaked in kerosene.Ryan’s assessment … looks like a Dorito, smells like a Dorito … then you start to cough.Michelle & Shannon … Michelle’s eyebrows go up right away, Shannon is ready to eat them all up.Michelle switches to the fudgesicle after her first chip, “I’m crying uncle.”Shannon’s reco: these would be good in guac.Ryan: I now think we can do the One Chip Challenge. He’s a little hot and sweaty but it’s not that big of a deal. He’s been training all week. “I can feel it in my mouth and my throat and my tummy, so there is a heat factor there, but I might have a couple more.”Michelle, “I think my tongue has blisters.”Ryan thinks it’s not fair that the Dad Deck gets to warm up with with the Chile Limon chip. The dads all think it adds up, it’s cumulative. We’re building up our baseline.Chile Limon – not very spicy. Pleasantly spicy, but like a Spicy Cheeto, Spicy Dorito. They’re good. Any of us would eat that any day of the week.Michelle, who can’t tolerate anything, says that after the fudgecilce, the milk and half a beer, is still heat rising.Checking back in with Ryan, he gets to chip 6 and it’s getting discomfort, hot … Shannon is just grazing away. It builds up, but it’s not now, it’s later in the private room.Herve: My pores are open. My lips are burning.Ryan: Don’t touch your eye! He’s crying …His assessment: I won’t have these again, it’s a novelty.Michelle: Same – but Shannon is making her way through the whole bag.Herve says they’re a lot less scary than he expected.Miskell says the Taki Fuego is hotter, but it’s good.Elliott – Happy I tried it, Teeg built it up all wrong – this wasn’t as awful as any of us expected.Eric – good flavor, I’d eat this again with guac. I’m still scared of the chip in the coffin.Ken – I was expecting more, I feel let down.Teeg – I thought this would be funny because we’d all be in pain. But it turns out it’s no big deal.Ratings:Ryan thought the Japanese candy was standard candy. The chips win because they burned his eye and that made it fun.Michelle: Japanese Candy was middle of the road but ahead of the chips because they didn’t disappoint.Miskell: I was impressed with the Japanese Candy. As for the chips, a definite let-down. Big build-up, over-promised and under-delivered.Herve: I was a little nervous but now I’m a little disappointed. Give it to the Japanese candy. I’d try the One Chip Challenge.Elliott: Well, you brought a puke bucket and that didn’t get used, so …Eric: I would pick the chip – I was surprised that it had good flavor. It’s a let-down that it wasn’t hotter, but this chip has good flavor.Ken: This has nothing on the Buffalo Wild Wings Wall of Blazing. The chips were good. I had the lemon chocolate, it was very very good, and I’d put it way higher than the chips.Teeg: On the basis of expectation, the candy exceeded my expectation and Paqui didn’t.Next show: J.Roach – Mr. Hilarious Hope, he’s tried out for America’s Got Talent – inspires and changes the life of young people …
