With today's twenty-four hour news cycle, coupled with the rise of social media, we often feel as though we are constantly being bombarded with headlines, most of them negative. It can be hard to keep any kind of positive attitude at all as we are perpetually reminded of all the things that are wrong in the world. Before long, we find ourselves feeling stuck and hopeless. Vet tech and behavior specialist Tabitha Kucera knows those feelings of depression and hopelessness, but she also knows the immense power of having a PMA--positive mental attitude--especially when things are hard. That doesn't mean falling into toxic positivity, but instead finding the good where it is, recognizing what is in your power to do, and learning to be kind to yourself. Tune in as we discuss the value of finding and providing mentorship, learning to understand yourself, and the importance of knowing your own worth. Reclassing can be a controversial topic, with some players benefiting from an extra year of development while others may struggle to find appropriate competition.Playing against quality competition is crucial for player development, and if a program cannot provide that, players should consider alternative options such as post-grad programs. The recruiting process can be complex, and players and parents should be cautious of promises made by college advisors and do their own research.Mental performance and mindset training are becoming increasingly important in baseball, and programs should prioritize incorporating these aspects into their training. There is a development gap between Canada and the US, with field time and exposure to high-level competition being key areas of difference. The recent MLB draft showcased the talent in Canada, but there are still challenges and limitations in the Canadian baseball landscape, such as the Canada Cup tournament.TitlesBalancing Coaching and Personal LifeThe Importance of Player Development in Baseball The Development Gap Between Canada and the USThe Rise of Mental Performance and Mindset Training in BaseballSound Bites"I hit record and I didn't record it. Join the Amys and their cat-tastic guest, Tabitha Kucera, RVT, KPA-CPT, CCBC, VTS (behavior), and owner of Chirrups and Chatter Behavior Consulting and Training in Cleveland, Ohio, as they pounce, feet first (am I righting?), into the dynamics of cat behavior and intercat aggression. Misconceptions, myths, and generalizations about cat behavior have resulted in misleading and harmful labels that leave kitties in the dark when it comes to standards for behavioral wellness, quality of life, and cooperative care. And, when the dynamics of a multicat environment echo a blockbuster battle - a fight to the death until there is only one survivor - cat guardians are led astray and left to contemplate solutions that aren't typically supported by modern science. The time is meow to set the record straight and get down to the WTF? (it doesn't mean what you think it means) of cat behavior and aggression. Are cats actually aloof creatures that merely tolerate our presence, and manipulate our minds? Or, has society contributed to our perception of cats and their behavior? Does the language we use to describe cat behavior in professional settings impact perceptions, expectations, and outcomes of treatment? How does pain, choice, motivation, and enrichment factor into behavioral wellness? If Maryland has a superpower, it might be the insights and energy of entrepreneurs across the state, identifying something customers want, and would be willing to pay for, if there were only a company making and selling it. You do not have to look far to find start-ups trying to make their businesses work. We speak with local entrepreneurs involved in two ventures at Towson University and Community College of Baltimore County. The CCBC's Center for Business Innovation is hosting “B'More Bold Business Conference for Entrepreneurs and Innovators" today. Several hundred people are gathering this morning near BWI at the Maritime Conference Conference Center to brainstorm solutions for start-ups and growing businesses. Across town at the Armory in Towson, another set of entrepreneurs were rolling up their sleeves and getting to work. Towson University's StarTUp welcomed its fifth cohort of founders of new ventures, mostly women, minorities or veterans, who have ideas for businesses in medicine, finance, human resources, food and more. Dennis Sullivan, Executive Director and Associate Professor at CCBC's Center for Business Innovation, and Tasha Lee, owner of Tasha Flowers, join us to talk about cultivating growing business ideas. Later in the show we are joined by Patrick McQuown, who had two decades as an entrepreneur, mentor and educator when he joined Towson University in early 2020 as director of entrepreneurship. Kobby Osei-Kusi took part in last summer's cohort at StarTUp. He founded a company called Pirl Technology, working to develop more effective chargers, for cellphones and for electric vehicles and other devices. “I should do this, I should do that…” Our lives are full of “shoulds,” of tasks and errands that we feel obligated to do, and that gnaw away at us when we don't. Many of us go through our days carrying the guilt and anxiety that results from not having done or accomplished everything we “should.” Needless to say, this is hardly a recipe for a healthy or flourishing emotional life. What if it didn't have to be this way, though? What if we could free ourselves from the guilt of “should” and instead embrace a mentality where even necessary tasks become a conscious choice we make, instead of an obligation? Cat behavior consultant Misty Hampton joined me today to talk about the freeing power of getting rid of the “should”s in her life.

It's time again for another visit with Midday theater critic J. Wynn Rousuck, who joins Tom each week with her reviews of Maryland's regional stage. Today, she spotlights the new production of the hit 1966 Broadway hit musical, Sweet Charity, on stage now at the Cockpit -in-Court Theater, on the Essex campus of Community College of Baltimore County. Directed at CCBC by Eric Potter, using the original choreography of the show's legendary creator, Bob Fosse, Sweet Charity is a romantic comedy centered on a hapless but determined young woman named Charity Hope Valentine, who is seeking love — and her identity — in 1960s New York City. The Tony Award-winning musical (Best Choreography) has a powerful pedigree, with book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by Dorothy Fields. It's based on an original screenplay by visionary Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini, with Tullio Pinelle and Ennio Flaiano. Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre presents Sweet Charity now through August 7. For more information and ticketing, follow the theater link.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show: He said intent shouldn't matter and that Trouba should be suspended. He talked about Geno and Letang needing to walk the fine emotional line tonight. He thinks PPG Paints Arena will be off the chain tonight. He knocks on wood and thinks the Pens win the series.Vogelbach is chubby and he says he's going to hit a triple. The original Bury Graves guy called us up! (Greg) He moved to Jacksonville the day after the game! He dropped out of CCBC and was making a life change! Incredible! Black top grills? Easier to clean? Harder to clean? More Pens/Rangers.
