Annual song competition held among member countries of the European Broadcasting Union
POPULARITY
Britain lost Eurovision again, which now happens with such regularity it practically counts as a national tradition. In this episode of Mark and Pete, we ask the increasingly uncomfortable question: should the UK still bother entering the Eurovision Song Contest at all? From political voting blocs and changing European culture to glitter cannons, novelty acts, and the strange annual ritual of British viewers pretending not to care while caring enormously, this episode explores why Eurovision still fascinates millions despite constant complaints about it.Mark and Pete discuss Britain's complicated relationship with Europe, whether Eurovision is still genuinely about music, and why modern entertainment increasingly feels less like artistry and more like a giant televised identity performance. There's also discussion of ABBA, Sam Ryder, “nul points,” Eurovision's gigantic viewing figures, and whether the contest reveals something deeper about post-Christian Western culture and the desperate modern need to be seen, validated, and applauded by strangers in sequins.A funny, thoughtful, and quietly sardonic Christian take on Eurovision, modern celebrity culture, Britain's cultural identity crisis, and why every year we somehow convince ourselves that this time might be different.

Ich habe sehr gerne die litauische Trollband LT United, die 2006 „We are the winners of Eurovison“ sangen.
Jahrhunderts. Eurovision betrat mein Leben mit einem Skandal.

Joining us today is a singer and songwriter who's gone from living paycheck to paycheck while posting cover videos online to Eurovison success and playing Wembley alongside bona fide rock legends. It's the joyous Sam Ryder!Ahead of the release of his sophomore album and headline show at Wembley Arena, he talks about how he survived on “crumbs of comfort” from his early days in the music scene while struggling through difficult jobs. Consistently doing things for the right reasons was eventually rewarded as he graduated from doing weddings - something he still loves - to playing stadiums, his Glastonbury debut and celebrated performances around the world. Despite the success, Sam remains the same humble, joyous soul he was before the deserved accolades that have come his way in recent years.Fill out Stak's listener survey here to have a chance at winning a PS5! On this Episode of WSEG, we delve into the unfolding events in Malmo, Sweden, where protests in favor of Palestine are taking place. This is in response to the decision by Eurovision to permit Israel's participation. Furthermore, we will discuss the notable endorsement of these pro-Palestine demonstrations by the esteemed musician, Roger Waters.

U2 sem sendi í vikunni frá sér fyrsta lagið af 40 af plötunni Songs of Surrender sem kemur út í mars og hefur að geyma 40 gömul U2 lög í nýjum búningi. Fyrsta lagið er komið, Pride in the name of love, og sitt sýnist hverjum.
U2 sem sendi í vikunni frá sér fyrsta lagið af 40 af plötunni Songs of Surrender sem kemur út í mars og hefur að geyma 40 gömul U2 lög í nýjum búningi. Fyrsta lagið er komið, Pride in the name of love, og sitt sýnist hverjum.

It's that time of the year again, where acts from all over the continent - and elsewhere in some cases - compete in Eurovison. The competition always gets political but this time around there's a clear favourite that everyone can get on board with, Ukraine. Now, the UK hasn't got the best track record in the competition. Despite last year's entry James Newman's best efforts, we finished dead last and with no points. But, could this year be different? The man hoping to change our luck is none other than TikTok star Sam Ryder with ‘Space Man'.We speak to the Evening Standard's Jochan Embley about Eurovision politics, the competition's rise in popularity and whether or not the UK can avoid ‘nul points' this time around.
