*You can take Keith Washington out of Detroit – although not for long – but you can’t take Detroit out of Keith Washington, ever. And for true grit R&B-soul fans, the latter is a good thing. After all, the Motor City is where Washington was born, raised, and musically influenced by many of the world’s best singers, songwriters, recording artists, and performers, some of whom were family members. On Sunday, April 11 at 9:00 p.m. (EST), TV One’s “Unsung” spotlights Keith Washington. The critically acclaimed docu-series chronicles the recording artist and performer’s journey to becoming one of the greatest R&B crooners of the era. As expected, his “Unsung” episode rhythmically begins in Detroit. “I’m so proud to be from Detroit, where I learned so much about singing, harmonizing, and overall what music was about,” Washington told EURweb.com in an exclusive interview. “As we all know, the city is recognized for its musical talent, which included Motown and so many more great singers and musicians, some of which I was fortunate enough to perform with.” Washington said those who tune into “Unsung” will travel with him through the rollercoaster rides of his life, which produced many good times, professionally and personally. Yet, the rollercoaster, at times, appeared it would derail, leaving his life in difficult times. However, Washington always managed to find solid footing every time he stood on shaky ground. He said “Unsung” masterfully captures the essence of his highs and lows, where viewers will get a better perspective of how he persevered in the field of entertainment. Viewers will see how he navigated through controversy over a leaked recorded private phone conversation he had with good friend Aretha Franklin, getting through his mother’s death, going through times of depression, and more. “In everything that you do in life, there’s going to be some good and bad,” Washington coolly said. “In my career, it started pretty well, but there were plenty of trials and tribulations. I learned, however, you have to recognize what it means to stay humble despite what adversity comes into your life.” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lta-media/message

Shannon talks to Tanya Tatum, moderator and producer of The Tatum Talks. The Tatum Talks began as a series of informal discussions on Facebook and later grew into an open forum for discussing topics affecting the African-American community. Prior to producing TTT, she was the co-Host and Producer for “Live in the Vocal Booth” on BKS1Radio, a show that focused on national headlines. Tanya serves as a regular op/ed contributor to EURweb.com and has been featured on The Ricky Smiley Morning Show, Essence Magazine and UniteWomen.org. Tanya earned B.B.A. in Marketing from James Madison University. Tanya has a specific passion for the progression of African-Americans in this country, and tonight we will discuss issues about race that are often misunderstood. We hope to open some eyes, educate some minds and open a dialogue that we hope will continue past this show. The only way to understand the experience of another person is to hear it in their own words. Tonight, the topic will be race relations and the differences in several women's issues between African Americans and Caucasians. The Authentic Woman with Shannon Fisher explores personal, political, and societal perspectives of the female experience in America. The show delves deeply into the worlds of women writers, artists, celebrities, and community leaders and offers listeners food for thought on ways to better themselves and the world around them. Over the years, Ivory has written for many major publications, including Billboard, Vibe, Essence, the Los Angeles Times, and the Source. EURweb’s Lee Bailey caught up with Dr. Yamma Brown  James Brown's daughter on the red carpet at the Essence Festival in New Orleans. She talks about the film,  “Get On Up” the new James Brown bio-pic the family’s reaction to it, her father’s legacy. ------. Portside Article: James Brown belongs to us, the black masses, and for us to be excluded from the creative team that made this movie is an obscenity. I'm aware that Spike Lee was involved briefly. James Brown was a civil rights icon. Put James in the pantheon of the most impactful black men of the 20th century, and he would not be out of place. How can I make such an assertion? One song: "I'm Black and I'm Proud." Before that song, if you wanted to start a fight with a man of color, all one had to do was call him black. Up until the mid-sixties, we were trying define ourselves: not colored anymore, now Negro. But black was not something we called ourselves. And along comes this little man and proudly states, "I'm black and I'm proud!" He took the thing that the oppressor used to bludgeon us and made it a weapon of pride for us.
