Subluxation and Shoulder Pain “And my problem with taping generally is, it's kind of band-aidy because as soon as you take it off the arm could fall right back out. However, if you could get that to reduce pain and then have them do stuff, which then activates the SITS muscles and the deltoid and it brings that humerus back into where it needs to go, in the meantime because they are doing stuff...they're driving cortical change, which reduces spasticity, which may indicate more movement and now we get this upward spiral of recovery that could be quite helpful. So taping may be a temporary thing but it might be a good temporary thing.” EPISODE SUMMARY: This episode of NOGGINS & NEURONS: Stroke and TBI Recovery Simplified covers subluxation and pain. In this episode we learn: That moving the hand engages the shoulder and the muscles that reduce subluxation The proximal to distal arm recovery notion is a myth That approximately 80% of stroke survivors experience shoulder subluxation The importance of proper arm positioning to prevent shoulder subluxation and soft tissue damage Pete's and Deb's opinions of overhead pulley use by stroke survivors - again Ways to measure subluxation About treatment strategies for supporting the shoulder, improving subluxation and reducing pain Join Pete and Deb as we talk about subluxation statistics, how to prevent shoulder subluxation and/or soft tissue damage and the importance of safely moving a hemi-paretic shoulder. We discuss several braces that are commonly used to support the shoulder as well as common challenges experienced when donning and doffing them. We also cover e-stim, NMES, functional e-stim, TENS, stretching, and taping as effective methods for addressing subluxation. We learned that brain controlled interfacing (BCI) with e-stim (which incorporates action observation and motor imagery) results in greater improvements in reducing subluxation and pain, than when functional e-stim is used alone. Highlighting this young brother has been an absolute honor for us at The Conscious Man! Campbell proves over and over again that we are not products of our environments as long as we garner a growth mindset and have willing to ask for help! Ain't nobody doing shit by themselves! After prison, Campbell reached out for mentorship and was met! this man exhibited true strength (vulnerability) pay attention men! contrary to what we've been told, Vulnerability is our superpower!!! Listen all the way through for your action step. I'm going to own that this audio is raw and there are a few instances that might trigger some listeners.I cough before the intro at another point there is some barking from Campbells dog. So just a heads up for those of you who might be sensitive. links/Resources Clillard@thephoenix.org Mentor: Logan Gelbrich Book- Going RightGoing Right: A Logical Justification for Pursuing Your Dreams is a world-view shattering model of decision-making. In this book, we are offered liberation from our socialized, detached, and unsustainable methods of making life's most meaningful choices. This is a fresh invitation to integrate our emotional passions, using our rational brain, while remaining grounded in real-world experiences. Gelbrich builds on leading academic theories and exceptional practical illustrations to support his proposed decision-making model. Surprisingly, most adults today, who are privileged enough not to worry about their basic survival needs, operate as if pursuing the loftiest version of themselves poses a threat to their safety and an offense to the social norms of their lives. Many point to the risks of losing their own happiness, the possibility to not providing for themselves and dependents, and the social consequences of chasing down their ideal self-expression to fuel their logic against reaching for something higher. But basing the most meaningful of our choices, our dreams, on assumptions, and predicting the effects of our decisions on our most important obligations is robbing us and our communities of the happiness, our ability to provide for self and others, and social benefits that we find ourselves instinctively protecting in the first place. Going Right explores the essentially grand, utilitarian advantages of an alternative logic and unlocks universal modern truths of pursuing our peak expression. The enduring stoic path of significance presented here leads us to hold greater commitments, practice deep work, remain resilient to adversity, experience moments of creative flow, and curate transferable skills. Whether in the context of relationships, work, or lifestyle, Going Right presents a solid case that braving your evolutionary resistances to continually pursue your dreams is truly the most logical choice you can make. https://thephoenix.org/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/scott-pagliaccio/support

In today’s episode of The Freestyle Way Podcast Carl Paoli sits down with his friend and fellow Coach Logan Gelbrich - Founder and Owner of Deuce Gym. Logan is no ordinary founder or former athlete. Logan is a thought leader who is obsessed with the idea of pursuing one’s peak expression even knowing that the chances of achieving said expression are slim to none. It is in knowing that the outcome of our efforts is out of our control where Logan thrives and zeros his focus in on becoming process oriented, exercising extreme vulnerability, and taking full ownership of one’s performance. Logan believes that in order to be able to pursue said standard of living, one must be willing to live in a constant state self development and hold oneself accountable to it by creating a structures and safe environments to do so. In this conversation Carl and Logan do a deep dive into the principles behind his book Going Right, a term Gelbrich has coined as A LOGICAL JUSTIFICATION FOR PURSUING YOUR DREAMS and to show people how they may be choosing a disadvantaged position for growth and how one can change that. Logan’s principle of focusing on what one can control has led him and his team to develop a trusting and willing mindset open to change and evolve through operating at the edges of their abilities while constantly receiving feedback that whether negative or positive helps the individual and group course correct as needed. Logan’s ability to cut through the hype is what has allowed him in his former goal of playing Major League Baseball to learn and create qualities in his character that has made him fit to do whatever he chooses in life. He knows in his heart that he has the ability to take on anything he sets his mind to and has proven this with the ongoing success of his organization Deuce and the individuals who belong to it. After you listen to this conversation you will learn how holding the standard on relentlessly pursuing one’s peak expression and Going Right will inevitably result in not only a meaningful and deep body of work but also in a joyful experience. www.holdthestandard.com www.deucegym.com --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carlpaoli/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/carlpaoli/support

This week’s guest is Dr. Lindsey Mathews of BIRTHFIT and Deuce Gym and every coach, CrossFit, Strength Training, or otherwise needs to hear this conversation and learn more from Lindsey. We cover a number of topics starting with our primal movement patters and how they relate to our social development. We then explore the training approach, a functional progression, during the different phases of the motherhood transition for preconception, during, and postpartum including importance of embracing load, planes of motion and energy systems. Additionally, touch on the value of mindset, how to view obstacles in a different manner, with closing on how BIRTHFIT is providing the proper support and coaching for a grossly underserved population for both women and their partners experiencing the motherhood transition.
Our guest on episode 78 of Uncharted Performance is Logan Gelbrich of Deuce Gym. He is a former pro baseball player, CrossFit Seminar staff member, coach, entrepreneur, writer, student, coach, teacher, philosopher, but to label him as these would not be fair because of the given the combination of all these he’s much more. Our conversation is a organic free flowing exploration of the ripe environment for development and it is not specific to coaching or training What does that environment look like? What are the key contributing factors and variables? We probe how we can push our development, through exposing ourselves to opposing view points, departing from our beliefs, and the manner in which one can accomplish that. The coaches prep course developed by Logan and staff is a spring board for much of our discussion that also leads into creating problems, providing solutions, insuring against mediocrity, and breaking from dogma to allow ourselves to both evolve and devolve. What is great coaching? Tune in to find out and start playing up.
