Exod. 18:13–27 Prov. 11:14; 15:22 Matt. 23:1–4 1 Tim. 3:1–13 Every group on earth has to get organized in order to get anything done. It's the same with the Church. But the difference is that the Church is a heavenly institution that also exists on earth. In this sermon, we learn that Christ's care for and rule over His people is experienced in the order and officers of the Church.
There is a separation between the formal proclamation of the word in authority behind the pulpit and the casual conversations that elders might have with people in their everyday lives. We don’t expect that these conversations, filled with jokes, opinions, observations, to imply anything official. Yet, today, we spy in on just such a conversation between Paul and his faithful child in the faith, Titus. Paul wants Titus to continue to strive to put the churches of Crete in good order. But how is he to do that? Let us consider the good order of the church by considering: 1. The agent of good order 2. The aim of good order 3. The assurance of good order

Send us a textWelcome back to the podcast! In this episode, we're stepping into the closing section of 1 Corinthians 14 to tackle a challenging but essential topic: order in the church. From ancient Corinth to our modern congregations, the same struggles show up — division, misuse of spiritual gifts, and confusion about worship. We'll unpack why God calls His people to worship in a way that builds up the whole body, explore what Paul means about tongues, prophecy, and even that controversial instruction about women in the assembly, and see how it all fits within the bigger picture of unity and love. This isn't about personal preference — it's about submitting to the wisdom of God's Word and pursuing the kind of worship that truly honours Him.
How should the church gathering look? Like a concert or a family meal? Maybe a little bit of both. Today we'll look at Paul's words about how we bring our gifts to the gathering in a way that lovingly builds …

Sunday July 7, 2024 at the Hub City Church The Importance of Order in the Local Church | Church 101: Deacons Sermon by Tadd Anderson | Lead Teaching Pastor Sermon Notes “Too often Christians today have only two gears in their theological bike: essential and unimportant. If something is not essential for salvation, it is treated as unimportant and therefore dismissible. But the Bible presents us with a number of matters that are not essential for salvation but which nonetheless are important, even necessary, for obedience to God's Word. And these commands are not arbitrary. Obeying them bears good fruit. Questions of polity and organization fall into this category. In the life of a local church, they can sometimes become crucially important for the church's health and even survival.” — Mark Dever Titus 1:5 // Colossians 2:5 // 1 Corinthians 14:40 If God has a good DESIGN for ALL THINGS in CREATION, how much MORE for His SINGULAR VEHICLE of REDEMPTION - the CHURCH? We don't talk much about speaking in tongues and it certainly isn't something you see practiced but at the root of all worship practices and works of the spirit is a sense of good order that brings us together and make it clear to everyone what God is doing in our midst.1 Corinthians 14:1-12 (ESV)Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone know what is played? And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning, but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church.Matthew 6:1-4 (ESV)“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

On Sunday, May 14, 2023, Pastor Joe Troutman preached "Knowing the Mystery" from Colossians 2:1-5. "God makes us mature by knitting us together in love and giving us understanding of who Christ is and what he has done." 1. Struggle to Encourage (vs. 1-2a) 1 For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, 2. Assurance of Understanding (vs. 2b-4) to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. 3. Decently and in Good Order (v. 5) 5 For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ. mcopc.org/podcast
COLOSSIANS 2:1-4 The church is the beautifully designated bride of Jesus, the church is the uniquely designated carrier of the Gospel and the Church is the sole, survivor when the end comes. THE NEW TESTAMENT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE UNLESS YOU READ IT THROUGH THE LENS OF A LOCAL CHURCH The bulk of the New Testament is Written to churches (Romans, I/II Cor, Gal, Eph, Phil, Col, I/IIThess, Rev) . Written to leaders in churches (Titus, I/II Tim, I/II Peter, I/II/III John, Jude). Matt/Mark/Luke/John tell us that Jesus is going to build His church and the gates of hell won't prevail. Acts is the planting of churches and the spread of churches. COLOSSIANS 2:5 2 things made Paul rejoice, 1. GOOD ORDER! 2. FIRM FAITH! VISION SUNDAY GATHER, GROW, GO COLOSSIANS 2:5 I rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ. How do we seal all of this? How do we receive power to accomplish all of this? Prayer! Where prayer is present in the church, it's saying something...it teaches the church that we really need the Lord. Where prayer is absent, it reinforces the assumption that we're okay without Him.
Dave Frodsham: Good order builds up the church Dave continues our series on 1 Corinthians, Identity Confirmed through the lens of the Gospel, looking at 1 Corinthians 14:13-40. Dave addresses the thorny issue of speaking in tongues and what Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, had to say on the matter. Dave looks at why we meet as a church, and why it's not what we say but what people hear that is important.
The idea of living a life with less clutter sounds fantastic, doesn't it? A home with less stuff, toys, clothes, etc. Did you know that decluttering also has a mental health aspect to it? Your home environment can affect your mental well-being. By having all the things unorganized, you can feel the chaos and be out of control. In today's chat, I sat down with professional organizer Mary Davis to discuss her journey from packrat to helping others get organized, the importance decluttering has on ourselves and our families, and tips on where to start decluttering your home. Mary is a mom, wife and reformed packrat turned Professional Organizer. After 20 years in the corporate world creating inventory control systems and administrative processes, she realized she could have a more significant impact on helping people get organized. Mary knows first-hand that anyone can benefit from sound organizational systems. She also knows that it's hard to find the time, motivation, or bandwidth. Mary founded In Good Order in 2019 to help her clients by decluttering and creating functional and beautiful systems to bring ease into their lives.Do you know about my coaching services? Work existed before sin entered the world and sin makes work harder than it needs to be. Paul helps by pointing to the reality that the ultimate purpose of our work is not to put food on the table, or to please our boss but to please God. It is God’s will that our work would be done for him and under his authority.
God addresses children in Ephesians 6 because they are integral members of His family. Children need to obey their parents and parents need to use their power and authority to bring them up in the Lord.
Nobody is better at loving than God himself … God calls upon husbands to imitate His love. This is a high calling achieved only through a personal knowledge of God’s love and a willingness to die to oneself just as Christ did.
God made men, women and marriage. He designed marriage to be led and prospered by the servant-hearted, self-sacrificial leadership of the husband in tandem with the supportive, willing submission of the wife to his leadership. In marriage we do not talk about the rights of two individuals but the health of two who have become one.
