Disney's Coronado Springs Resort opened at Walt Disney World in 1997 across from Disney's Blizzard Beach water park. Closely situated near Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park, EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios, Coronado Springs includes 10 dining locations (Toledo, Maya Grill, Three Bridges, Rix Sports Bar, Barcelona Lounge, Dahlia Lounge and more) and an array of amenities, pools and recreation, and even the largest conference center at Walt Disney World. With outer buildings (casitas, ranchos, and cabanas) as well as the 2019 addition of Gran Destino Tower, Disney's Coronado Springs Resort is perhaps the most versatile hotel on property with options ranging from standard moderate rooms to club-level presidential suites. In this podcast episode, we discuss the history and details of Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, along with the many reasons you should consider staying here on your next Walt Disney World vacation. Disney World Hotel Tour: Coronado Springs This week, we invite you to join us on a captivating tour of Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, a remarkable Moderate level resort located within the enchanting Walt Disney World Resort. We'll be showcasing all the compelling reasons why this resort should be your top choice for your next magical stay.Check out our video tour of the resort hosted by travel host extraordinaire Cam Matthews here . First and foremost, let's explore the captivating theme and aesthetic of Disney's Coronado Springs. This original resort draws inspiration from the alluring ambiance of Spanish colonial Mexico and the American Southwest. As we venture further, you'll discover that the guest rooms are situated in three distinct areas known as Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas. The Casitas offer luxurious suites, making Coronado and Gran Destino Tower the only moderate resorts at Walt Disney World with such accommodations. Throughout the common areas and guest rooms, the vibrant presence of the beloved characters from "The Three Caballeros" is skillfully woven into the decor, adding an extra touch of whimsy and charm. Next, we'll delve into the magnificent Gran Destino Tower, which opened its doors in 2019. This stunning 15-story tower takes inspiration from the themes and visual aesthetics of the renowned Disney animation short film, "Destino." Originally a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali, the film remained unfinished until 2003. The Gran Destino Tower pays homage to this artistic masterpiece, offering guests a truly immersive experience filled with elegance and sophistication. As we satisfy our appetites, we'll explore the delightful dining options available at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. The main dining venue, Coronado Springs, boasts a variety of culinary experiences, including Rix Sports Bar & Grill, Maya Grill, El Mercado de Coronado, and Cafe Rix. If you're looking for a unique dining experience, we recommend checking out Three Bridges Bar & Grill, Siestas Cantina (a charming poolside bar), and Laguna Bar, a picturesque outdoor lakeside bar. Additionally, the Gran Destino area offers Toledo, an exquisite dining destination specializing in tapas, steak, and seafood. For a more relaxed atmosphere, you can unwind at Dahlia Lounge or indulge in specialty gin drinks and Spanish-inspired appetizers at Barcelona Lounge, which also serves as an espresso bar and quick-service breakfast spot in the mornings. Of course, no trip to Disney's Coronado Springs Resort would be complete without exploring its remarkable recreational facilities. The Dig Site pool complex steals the spotlight, featuring the captivating Lost City of Cibola pool with a thrilling 123-foot waterslide—the longest on Walt Disney World property. Additionally, you'll find the largest hot tub on the property, capable of accommodating up to 22 adults, a kiddie pool, Siestas pool bar, sand volleyball court, the exciting Iguana Arcade, and the fun-filled Dig Site playground. For those seeking a more tranquil experience, the resort offers three serene quiet pools, each located in the distinct "settlement" areas of Coronado Springs. Throughout your stay, immerse yourself in the vibrant Colors of Coronado and admire the intricate Spanish Mosaic Art experiences that add an extra layer of cultural beauty to the resort. Both sections of the resort feature fitness centers to help you maintain your active lifestyle. You'll still find an array of engaging recreational activities to enjoy, including a daily campfire, nightly movies under the stars on the Gran Destino Lawn, invigorating pool parties, thrilling games, and a refreshing jogging trail for those seeking a scenic workout. For years, I had no interest in visiting Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was because of it being a convention resort. Maybe something about the theming just didn't land with me the way other resorts did. Whatever the reason, all of that changed in 2019. On a rainy summer evening in July of that year, I joined a friend for a visit to Gran Destino Tower, the brand new addition to this resort. I fell in love with the Tower -- its restaurants and lounges, its public spaces, and, yes, its ambient music. Over time, I returned to this resort again and again, mostly for the Tower. But eventually I ventured out to explore the rest of the Coronado Springs property. And...it was wonderful! Still is! Winding paths, courtyards, fountains, parks...every corner I turned provided new discoveries -- visually and audibly. To discover something delightfully new in Walt Disney World is, well, maybe you know the feeling. It's amazing and refreshing and, well, this time it was also a little embarrassing. After all, I had put off visiting this resort for so long. And I was wrong to do that. I allowed preconceived notions to influence me. I know better than that. At least I do now. It's with this in mind that I hope you give a listen to this resort's amazing soundscape. Let the sounds and the tunes transport you to the desert southwest, and beyond. Listen as the modulating calls of cicadas, remind us that it's summer. Don't be surprised to find your toe tapping or hips swaying in your chair as you are drawn in by the rhythms of the Spanish guitar.

This month, we keep our waffle sharing a little closer to home and have a chat with Claire about her recent and first solo trip to Walt Disney World. It's the first time she has been back to the USA since August 2019 and this was a short trip of only 5 nights at the Gran Destino Tower. We are excited to have Jason Canapp of Here With The Magic, and Soundscapes by Here With the Magic join us for this chat. Claire and Jason managed to catch up for the first time in person during her trip and they recount tales of wet seat cushions, petrol stations, exploring EPCOT with lots of friends and family along with some truly fabulous food and drink stories. Claire talks about what it was like to travel alone, all the things she enjoyed and what's still left on the list for next trip - there is quite a lot! Thanks to Jason for joining the conversation, and we look forward to next time he joins the team.

Featuring sweeping views of Walt Disney World Resort, this charming, surrealistic location invites guests to dine indoors under a pair of large olive trees nestled beneath an intricate vaulted ceiling with shimmering stained-glass accents. https://youtu.be/f_d6g_Rd7BA
In the Disney animated film “Destino,” from which the tower takes its name, the immortal Chronos is in love with the mortal Dahlia. This passion shines through in the Dahlia Lounge, a convivial room that shares the tower's rooftop with Tolédo – Tapas, Steaks & Seafood. The heroine inspires the lounge's visual aesthetics – from dandelion chandeliers and metal bell accents to ceiling coffers with swirling patterns reminiscent of her flowing hair. Cocktails are crafted by expert mixologists, while wines from California and Spain include high-end canvas handpicked by the master sommelier. Visitors to the lounge – indoors or outdoors – can also choose from tapas or small-plate specialties. https://youtu.be/FAzm-mLzssU
The grand opening of the Gran Destino Tower at Disney Coronado Springs was the finishing touch on the re-imagined resort, including updates in all of the rooms. Get the inside scoop on what changes inside the rooms. https://youtu.be/vLYSICmo1qw
We usually don't wait a couple of years to check out a new resort at Walt Disney World, but Covid admittedly threw us a little off our game. Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs resort opened in 2019, and Sandy and her husband were finally able to check it out in January, and Lindsay met … Continue reading Episode 384: Gran Destino Tower at WDW →

If a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali seems surreal, that's because it is, literally. Hosts Courtney and Emily welcome back Dr. Douglas Kern to the podcast to visit a 2015 Walt Disney Family Museum exhibit through its commemorative book titled, Disney and Dali: Architects of the Imagination, to discuss the friendship between the two artists and, at the time, their unrealized animated short, Destino. The project's completion in 2003 and the opening of Walt Disney World Resort's Gran Destino Tower in 2019 enlightened many fans, including your hosts, to Disney and Dali's friendship and their mutual admiration for surrealism, animation, and cinema. To most, Disney and Dali would seem an unlikely pairing, but as the Oscar nominated animated short, Destino, and artifacts from the Walt Disney Family Museum and The Salvador Dalí Museum proved, the two artists were destined to work together.
