Michael Heny spent close to 20 years in winemaking at Horton Cellars before taking the position as winemaker at Michael Shaps Wineworks in 2019. As a result of his many years working with Dennis Horton, who was the person responsible for re-introducing Norton back to Virginia, he has a great deal of knowledge regarding the challenges that Norton can pose both in the vineyard and the cellar.Michael addresses those and brings a different perspective to the dialogue about Norton wines. He also spent the early part of his wine career working with Archie Smith at Meredyth Vineyards. Archie was an early pioneer in Virginia wine growing starting in 1975 and become a well-known legend today. Michael also spent time working for one of the top retail wine merchants in Washington D.C. before taking the position at Horton. This gave him an appreciation for wine from the consumer side of the equation.I always learn something new when I speak with Michael. Ada seorang pemuda bercerita kepada teman-temannya di gereja, bagaimana dirinya mempertahankan imannya di tempat ia bekerja. Ia seorang yang taat dan sungguh-sungguh beriman, namun teman-temannya yang tidak seiman tidak menampilkan diri sebagai orang-orang beriman. Banyak yang suka menghujat Allah. Ada yang berperilaku tidak pantas seperti menyebarkan fitnah, bertindak kasar dalam kata-kata dan tindakan, curang dan tidak adil. Pemuda ini berprinsip bahwa Tuhan yang ia imani dan yang menyertai dia setiap saat, memberinya rasa aman, kuat, dan percaya diri. Ia tidak takut apa pun, meski di sekelilingnya penuh dengan gaya hidup yang berlawanan dengan Tuhan. Baginya, tidak ada ketakutan berada dan bersama dengan Tuhan. Sesama karyawan di kantor yang berlaku kasar, berkata bohong, menyebarkan gosip atau penghinaan, dan yang berbuat curang, adalah rekan-rekan yang ia temui setiap hari. Ia tidak merasa asing bahkan terancam oleh mereka. Tidak sedikit pun kesempatan baginya untuk terpengaruh oleh mereka. Ia menggunakan kekuatan Tuhan, sehingga ia mampu mempertahankan imannya dan mampu juga berelasi dengan mereka secara normal. Pengalaman seperti ini dialami juga oleh banyak orang di sekitar kita. Ini semua adalah pengalaman di dalam dunia nyata. Di dalam dunia tidak nyata yang di luar jangkauan indra kita, sering menjadi gangguan tersendiri. Dunia hantu dan gaib sering menakuti kita. Banyak di antara kita yang atas nama Tuhan yang menyertai, sama sekali tidak takut dengan setan, hantu, dan kekuatan gaib. Mereka sungguh percaya bahwa Tuhan Allah lebih kuat daripada semua kekuatan itu. Hanya dengan nama Tuhan yang maha kudus, mereka terlindungi, dikuatkan dan diselamatkan. Selain itu, ada juga ancaman-ancaman yang mematikan, seperti kekerasan fisik, perang, penyakit, dan bencana alam. Bagi orang-orang yang mengutamakan kekuatan Tuhan dalam penyelenggaraan seluruh hidupnya, mereka sama sekali tidak gentar dan goyah hidupnya. Tuhanlah yang menentukan nasib hidup mereka. Jadi warta gembira bagi kita hari ini adalah seperti yang disampaikan oleh kedua bacaan hari ini. Santo Paulus di dalam suratnya kepada jemaat di Efesus menegaskan bahwa kita bertahan dan dapat melawan musuh di dunia ini, cukup dengan mengenakan senjata Tuhan Allah yang kita kenakan sebagai pakaian kita. Tidak ada satu pun kekuatan lain selain Tuhan yang dapat memisahkan dan menghancurkan kita. Demikian juga Injil, Yesus melangkah pasti ke Yerusalem, tempat tujuan-Nya yang sudah ditentukan Tuhan. Ancaman dari Herodes tidak pernah membuatnya takut satu titik pun atau mundur satu langkah pun. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa ... Pirate radio, dubstep and documentary filmmaking—the many faces of Heny G. Malcolm Christopher Gustave, AKA Heny G, is a name synonymous with pirate radio and dubstep. Through his own shows and station, he championed a melodic style of the syncopated, sub-bass sound that's since influenced several of the genre's stalwarts. Speaking with Resident Advisor contributor Marcus Barnes, Gustave explains how his love for radio pushed him to champion diverse artists in dance music. Tracing the trajectory of his time in the industry, Gustave describes how he started in pirate radio at the age of 13. Developing an obsession with jungle, garage and house music, he went onto work at Rinse FM during the 2000s when it was still an unlicensed platform. Around that tinme, he also launching his own station, React FM. While DJing and presenting, Gustave fine-tuned his signature style of emotive dubstep. Nine years since the release of his debut album Child Hood, his soulful productions continue to resonate with old and new heads alike, as Barnes points out. Over the past year, Gustave has been working on a documentary called The Last Weekend. Chatting to Barnes about the creative process, he outlines his entry into filmmaking and how the art form has added another layer to his ever-evolving career. Perayaan ini berpusat pada Yesus Kristus dengan penekanannya pada tindakan-tindakan Yesus yang menunjukkan kemuliaan, suka cita, kekuasaan dan pesta. Di dalam perayaan ini ada seremoni Yesus membasuh kaki para rasul-Nya. Tindakan Yesus ini mengajarkan kita untuk saling melayani dengan rendah hati. Ini merupakan suatu suka cita besar. Suasana suka cita dan kejayaan cinta kasih di antara kita dapat terungkap melalui saling melayani. Maka Yesus bersabda bahwa kita harus saling mengasihi seperti Ia sendiri telah mengasihi kita. Suasana Getsemani menggambarkan cobaan dan kesulitan yang membuat hidup ini terasa tidak nyaman dan aman. Tetapi seperti Tuhan sendiri, kita mesti melewatinya dengan berani. Antara Gestemani dan Golgota adalah saat-saat krusial di ambang penderitaan. Biasanya godaan selalu datang untuk membawa kita lari dari kenyataan pahit. Yesus sendiri berkata: Ya Bapa, biarlah cawan ini berlalu dari pada-Ku. Namun kita mesti mengikuti Guru kita Yesus Kristus untuk dapat mengalahkan godaan itu, dan menyanggupi meminum cawan penderitaan. Ini adalah sebuah suka cita. Meskipun kita semua merayakan Kamis Putih dengan masih dalam bayangan ancaman virus Covid-19, kita semua sebagai satu jemaat hendaknya masih tetap menikmati suka cita Ekaristi dan Imamat Tuhan Yesus Kristus di dalam diri kita masing-masing sebagai orang-orang beriman. Michael Heny graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Comparative Literature from University of Virginia in 1990.  Hardly, the typical training or studies that would lead to a successful career.  He was in need of a job just out of college when he answered and ad for a position as a cellar worker at Montdomaine Cellars where Shep Rouse was the winemaker.  He remembers Shep tasting wine one afternoon outside the cellar when Shep asked him to join him.  It was the first time he even was exposed to the Tasting of wine.  He  became enthralled with the process there but would end up traveling to Europe only to come back and work the harvest at Meredyth Vineyards under Archie Smith.  He then would move on to a position at Horton Vineyards working under the guidance of two more of the early pioneers in Virginia winegrowing, Alan Kinne and Dennis Horton.  Ultimately, he ended back at the Montdomaine Cellars facility in 2019 but, working as the winemaker at Michael Shaps Wineworks who had purchased the facility in 2007 when it became the home for Michael Shaps wine program.  There are some more twists and turns you will learn about when you listen to the interview.  HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EPISODE: a). describes being a young boy when he became so curious with a bottle of German wine his parents were given as a souvenir of a trip to Europe his Grand-parents made.  He couldn't resist and opened it and tasted. b). he always wanted to be a Poet, so how he ended up being a noted winemaker for over 30 years in Virginia is an intriguing story.c). He was fortunate to work with several of the early pioneers of Virginia winegrowing and had some truly good mentors.d). Deuteronomy 6: 4-13; Rs psalm 18: 2-4.47.51ab; Matthew 17: 14-20 FAITH AS BIG AS A MUSTARD SEED Our meditation today has the theme: Faith as Big as a Mustard Seed. There was a fact that after a long time following the Master, Jesus Christ, the apostles proved to be unable to solve a problem they were facing. The sick person who was possessed by the evil spirits could not be healed and freed from the evil spirits. They obviously realized that something was wrong with their faith, but they didn't know exactly what was the matter. Jesus Christ discovered that what the disciples really lacked was the strength, quality and essence of that faith even though they had been living with Him all the time. Faith is likened to the size of a mustard seed, that is, although it is small, it contains quality, strength, and is full of God's power. Such great potential will be able to do the impossible. The faithful person can command the mountain to move to another place. Concretely speaking, what does it mean by faith of the size of a mustard seed? The real meaning here is that in a believer, God is the One doing and moving. This follows what Saint Paul said, that his life was not from himself, but from Jesus Christ who lived in him. For example, you are asked by a friend to help relieving a certain pain, as you believe that God will do everything. Prayers, faith, energy, thoughts, initiatives, work, materials that may be in great use to help, but God must be the number one given His space and opportunity to act on that sick person. It often happens that our human abilities are too much given the priority to act on our problems, and so we soon or later face the consequences obviously seen like we are easily tired, bored, angry and giving up. This so happens because God is not given His space and opportunity to act. Finally we will complain like the apostles, namely why can't we heal or solve the problems ourselves? From His hidden place, God may whisper in this way: “Your faith is not strong. You don't ask Me to intervene.” Another point that signifies faith as big as a mustard seed is the awareness and love to maintain the faith that is growing within us. Although small as a mustard seed, the temptation to underestimate it, to forget it and to neglect to care for it must be as strong as possible to be overcome. From long ago Moses had reminded of a loyalty, obedience and endurance to defend this faith. We are encouraged to never forget and abandon this small size of faith just because there is something new that comes and attracts our attention. We indeed have basic teachings, holy scriptures, sacred traditions, spirituality that all of these must be well preserved, maintained and useful all the moments of our life. Only then can our faith endure to the end. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord Jesus Christ, Your Mother and also our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary is an example for a firm and genuine faith, just like a very useful mustard seed. Dans un film, ce commandant de  bord, raconte le sauvetage d’une adolescente disparue à la sortie d’un village dans une tempête de neige. Température extérieure de moins 5O degrés. Seul un avion pouvait inspecter les lieux. En voyant ce héros, issu de sa propre communauté s’offrir un tel avenir, la jeune Mélissa ne réfléchira pas, homme ou femme qu’importe ! Elle aussi pilotera des appareils. Comment cette adolescente admirative, mais surtout déterminée, aurait-elle pu savoir qu’elle rencontrerait son mentor, aujourd’hui toujours en fonction. Comment aurait-elle pu savoir qu’à son tour, elle connaitrait le même genre d’aventure, le pire souvenir de sa jeune carrière, lorsqu’en pleine bourrasque, elle a dû poser son avion avec 40 personnes à bord dans le champ justement… d’un des voyageurs. Depuis l’avion, il avait téléphoné à ses proches qui étaient venus allumer un feu pour faire signe, ils avaient aussi fait des provisions pour nourrir tout le monde. Guy Bois dirige le service Espace Autochtones à Radio Canada et pour lui, l’accession de Mélissa Haney au poste de commandant va servir les jeunes générations. Au Canada, explique-t-il, nous avons un gros problème de représentation des autochtones. Les Inuits représentent 65 à 70 000 personnes sur la banquise du Grand Nord canadien. Le transport dans ces régions froides est primordial. L’avion là-bas remplace le train ou le bus. Les villages inuits, ajoute cet expert des communautés, sont séparés par centaines de kilomètres, il y a le transfert des habitants, mais aussi des marchandises (les motoneiges, les 4X4, les produits de supermarchés qui comptent beaucoup). Et puis surtout les liaisons d’hôpitaux parce que sur la banquise, il n’y a pas d’hôpitaux, il faut aller se faire soigner au sud, c’est-à-dire à Montréal ou sa région. Chez les Canadiens, il y a encore beaucoup de préjugés, les Inuits sont des gens qui profiteraient des aides sociales et qui vivraient au crochet de la société. Mais la vie des Inuits et surtout des jeunes femmes n’est pas facile. Imaginez, elles débarquent dans les villes en raison de problèmes de violence conjugale ou pour chercher un travail, elles deviennent vulnérables, des proies pour la prostitution ou la drogue. Alors l’exemple de Mélissa Haney, devenue pilote, est un espoir pour toutes les filles inuit qui se disent qu’elles peuvent y arriver elles-aussi.     Des journées de 14 heures avec des préfabriqués pour les escales d’équipage sur les pistes    Quand vous appelez Mélissa Haney, à l’improviste pour une interview sur RFI, elle vous répond que oui, bien entendu, elle est d’accord pour répondre aux questions, mais qu’avant elle doit préparer le petit déjeuner pour ses deux enfants, puis rédiger le texte de son intervention dans une école pour dire aux garçons, mais surtout aux filles que tout est possible. Bouger, agir et sauver voilà le crédo de Mélissa Haney parce qu’être pilote chez Air Inuit c’est remplacer le train ou le bus en assurant le transport entre villages dispersés sur la banquise relier les inuits aux hôpitaux au  Canada et tout cela en évitant la contamination au Coronavius. « Dans nos avions chez Air Inuit, normalement il y a quarante-cinq places. Avec les mesures de précaution contre le coronavirus, nous n’en avons plus que vingt, ça diminue beaucoup la capacité... Hormis les Inuits qui font les transferts vers le Sud, nous embarquons les travailleurs canadiens qui viennent travailler sur les territoires, des infirmières, des travailleurs sociaux, des avocats, des mécaniciens. Mon métier est passionnant et je veux dire que tout est possible quand on croit à sa vocation. Ma mère inuite m’a toujours soutenue, elle m’a dit que j’avais droit à un métier en tant que femme et autochtone. Elle est encore là aujourd’hui près de moi, avec son énergie, dès que j’ai besoin pour garder mes enfants. » Mélissa Haney est passionnée de ski l’hiver, de kayak l’été. Le fils de Mélissa rêve lui d’être astronaute. Sa mère l’encourage en lui offrant toutes les vidéos et les livres sur le cosmos ; la fille de Mélissa veut devenir pilote comme sa mère, qui fêtera ses 40 ans l’an prochain avec dans la tête deux rêves : piloter à grande vitesse, un jet et si possible un jet de la compagnie Air inuit, et puis l’autre, venir découvrir Paris.

HOMMY En 1969, The Who, la famosa banda inglesa de rock conformada por el excéntrico cantante Roger Daltrey, hicieron una obra llamada Tommy. Se trataba de un álbum doble presentado como una ópera rock, Tommy narraba la historia de un niño ciego y sordomudo que acaba convertido en un profeta. Tres años después la London Symphony Orchestra hizo una versión de cámara y Larry Harlow hizo Hommy. Esta es la historia de un disco único en su género, la ópera latina Hommy. Larry Harlow se inspiró en Tommy para hacer Hommy, él mismo lo reconoce. La historia también giraba sobre un niño ciego sordomudo con un sentido para la música hiperdesarrollado. el argumento fue escrito por Heny Álvarez, pero lo interesante también estuvo en la grabación, pues Harlow la hizo en cintas de vídeo y no de audio. Genaro Heny Álvarez Domenech nació en Santurce en 1929. Era cantante, un habitual de las fiestas en el South Bronx y el East Harlem a comienzos de los 60. También bailaba, también componía, también arreglaba y también vendía discos en la Casa Alegre de Al Santiago. Fue fundador de la Típica Novel, estuvo en el Sexteto de Gilberto Cruz, pasó por La Moderna de Ray Barretto, actuó con la charanga de Lou Pérez y cantó para el Sexteto de Joe Cuba. Cuando estalló el boom de la salsa, pasó de grupo en grupo hasta que Larry Harlow lo llamó para escribir Hommy, un trabajo hecho a la medida del talento de Álvarez. Un detalle sobre la obra Hommy. Harlow quería alejarse del planteamiento de Tommy y por eso había pensado en un nombre muy distinto, pero Álvarez encontró que omi significa agua o manantial en ñañigo, por lo que el nombre era perfecto. Los dos dividieron la obra en dos actos y nueve interludios. Se cuenta que Álvarez se inspiró en las tradiciones de Loiza Aldea y que por eso siempre negó la relación con la ópera rock de The Who. Mientras Heny Álvarez terminaba de escribir, Larry Harlow fue convocando a sus amigos para grabar el ambicioso proyecto. La orquesta base, por supuesto, fue la suya con Guagua Rivera en el bajo, Eddie Colón en los timbales, Tony Jiménez en las congas y Pablito Rosario en los bongoes. Larry Spencer y Ralph Castrella en las trompetas, Sam Burtis y Lewis Kahn en los trombones, y como cantantes y actores: Celia Cruz (la gracia divina), Heny Álvarez (el heladero), Justo Betancourt (el papá), Cheo Feliciano (el tío), Pete El Conde Rodríguez (el elemento del bonche), Adalberto Santiago (el médico) y un chico recién llegado de Coamo, Puerto Rico, Junior González. Junior González llegó a la orquesta de Larry Harlow para reemplazar a Ismael Miranda, y dio la casualidad que su debut con la banda fue en Hommy, donde por su juventud se le dio el papel protagonista, el del niño que no ve, no habla ni oye, pero toca los bongoes de manera prodigiosa. Pero mencionábamos a Celia Cruz. Resulta que Celia estaba en México y a Harlow le pareció que era la voz perfecta para encarnar a la gracia divina. Celia dijo que le parecía bien, pero que primero firmaría un contrato con Fania y se fue a Nueva York. Pero más tardó ella en preparar la maleta que Jerry Masucci y Harlow en organizar todo para que grabara antes de firmar. Ella se enojó, pero en el fondo acabaron de amigos, porque esa fue la primera experiencia de Celia Cruz con la salsa y con Fania. Lo que siguió…¡ja!, fue Bemba Colorá. Contra todo pronóstico, las ventas de Hommy fueron muy buenas, por lo que se pensó en presentarlo en directo. Pero era una ópera y no era sencillo. Harlow, que siempre ha tenido excelentes relaciones en Nueva York, habló con las directivas del Carnegie Hall. El Carnegie recibía conciertos de música popular desde 1955, pero sólo desde el 71 se podían grabar. De hecho, estaban de moda entre los grupos de rock y de soul, así que la propuesta fue aceptada y el evento se empezó a preparar. Hommy: A Latin Opera se estrenó el 29 de marzo de 1973 en el Carnegie Hall. A la orquesta de Harlow se le sumaron una sección de cuerdas con 14 violines, una sección sinfónica de vientos (imagínense, los tres flautistas eran Johnny Pacheco, Eddy Zervigon y Bobby Porcelli), y una sección de percusión, además de los coros, un piano adicional y un tres. Larry Harlow dirigió todo en compañía de Marty Sheller, creador de los nueve interludios. El narrador fue Heny Álvarez y los arreglos musicales los hicieron Harlow, Sheller, José Luis Cruz, Papo Lucca y Javier Vázquez. Hommy se presentó posteriormente en el recién inaugurado coliseo Roberto Clemente de San Juan de Puerto Rico.
