The recently concluded trial of Amber Heard v Johnny Depp, hit close to my heart as I am a man who has been in a former victim of IPV (Intimate Partner Violence), and someone who was falsely accused intention. I felt it was important tie tie trial to the story of Naofumi Iwatani, the MC of Rising of the Shield Hero, as he was also intentionally falsely accused by the main antagonist of the series Malty S Melromarc. Hyushi-sama, Jordan, and myself recount or experiences of either being taken advantage of or abuse, and tie these experiences to those of Johnny Depp, and Naofumi. As we feel there needs to be greater awareness to men who have either been falsely mistreated during the heights of the #MeToo movement, and men who have been victims of abuse in heteronormative relationships. This was my most important episode thus far, as I delve into many of my experiences with women, including family members, over the course of my life. In a 165-page report by New York's Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo was accused of a pattern of sexual harassment involving eleven women. The governor denied it, but has now announced his intention to resign from office. Seriously? Were I a New Yorker, I would feel betrayed, especially if I had voted for the man. He owes more to the people of the Empire State that this ignominious retreat from confronting charges he denies. We've become a republic of pusillanimous wimps. The claims against Cuomo are that he kissed, hugged, and groped women with whom he worked, and that he sometimes talked about sex with them.  He was single. He hugs and kisses men, too. What next, a parade of men who he's hugged or kissed under the banner #HimToo? I was hopeful that the #MeToo movement had run its course during the pandemic, the hysteria spent and now flowing in other directions. My hopes are dashed. Flirtation is a crime and victimhood the new national pastime. Cuomo's decision to cut and run is a major disappointment. I thought he was a fighter. He's not. He's a pussy. "How can the church respond? Engage with The Text Within religious circles there is a reluctance to talk about sexual violence and abuse. Perhaps due to lack of understanding or a heightened awareness that at times the church has played the role of facilitating or shielding offenders. Perhaps the starting point for the church would be wrestling with the Bible examining sexual violence in biblical passages would be a helpful starting point. Teaching If preaching has the power to speak into individual lives and address topical themes then it follows that pastorally there are no ‘no go' areas. The #MeToo Movement and sexual abuse cannot remain ‘no go' areas for the church. Training There are many men and women worshipping in churches, affected by sexual abuse. This provides a challenge for those engaged in preparing men and women for Christian ministry. Ministry involves dealing with the world its shortcomings, brokenness and misery as well as with its joys and blessings. Perhaps the curriculum needs to include some input on sexual abuse and violence, as is already the case with grief counselling and mental health. Find a voice In October 2017, Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, New York, placed a sign outside the building making a deep theological connection which was shared widely on social media. The sign read ‘Jesus said, as you have done it to them you have done it to me #MeToo'. The sign paraphrased Matthew 25:40. While we can only guess at what the sign's author intended, it is possible to suggest that the sign was suggesting that Christ stands in solidarity with, and shares the experiences of those, who say #MeToo. The question should not be if the church should respond but rather, how and when."
