China on Monday refrained from commenting on US President Joe Biden's decision to exit the presidential race.7月22日,外交部在例行记者会上就美国现任总统拜登宣布退出2024年美国总统竞选一事回应:不作评论。"The US election is an internal affair of the US", said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning."No comment," Mao replied when asked about China's reaction to Biden's exit. After nearly a month of mounting pressure from his own party, Biden dropped his reelection bid on Sunday and endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris to head the Democratic ticket in November. It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president," he wrote in a letter posted to social media. "And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus entirely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term." Biden's endorsement for Harris came in a subsequent post on X.拜登随后又发文表示将全力支持哈里斯为民主党总统候选人。"Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year," Biden said in a post to X on Sunday. "Democrats — it's time to come together and beat Trump."7月21日,拜登在社交媒体X上发文称:“今天,我想全力支持和认可卡玛拉成为民主党总统候选人。民主党——是时候团结起来打败特朗普了。”"I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and our nation — to defeat Donald Trump," said Harris, adding that she was honored to have Biden's endorsement and wrote on X that "my intention is to earn and win this nomination".“我很荣幸能够得到总统的支持,我的目的是赢得这项提名。” The Democratic candidate, who will be nominated at the Democratic National Convention, which starts on Aug 19 in Chicago, will face Trump, 78, the Republican nominee and former president. Biden, 81, whose term ends on Jan 20, 2025, said he will address the nation about his decision later this week. He is the first sitting US president to not seek reelection since Lyndon B. Johnson in March 1968.81岁的拜登将于2025年1月20日结束美国总统任期,他表示将在本周就他的决定向全美国发表讲话。 (Lyndon B. The North Carolina and South Carolina delegates pledged their support to her on Sunday evening as did a growing list of Democratic governors and members of Congress.7月21日,哈里斯立即开始为总统候选人提名进行准备工作,以获更多支持。 While Biden did endorse Harris, her nomination is not guaranteed, and there could be a rare open convention, also referred to as a "floor fight". There also had been talk of Democrats selecting a nominee virtually before the convention. But Representative Nanette Barragán of California, the chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, who said she spoke with Harris on Sunday, said the vice-president wants to forego a virtual roll call for the nomination process and instead hold a process that adheres to regular order. Harris needs the backing of 1,969 of the 3,936 Democratic delegates to secure her nomination, Reuters reported. Biden does not control his delegates: He cannot tell them whom to vote for next month. I still remember exactly where I was on Saturday, July 17, 1999, when the news bulletin flashed across the screen that the small plane carrying John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn, and her sister Lauren was missing. The three had flown out of New Jersey's Essex County Airport the night before, Friday, July 16, in John's Piper Saratoga plane, headed for Martha's Vineyard, where they were to drop off Lauren and then go on to Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, where John and Carolyn were due to attend the wedding of cousin Rory Kennedy the next day. But they never made it there, and their plane crashed into the dark waters of the Atlantic Ocean, killing all three passengers instantly. John was 38 years old, Lauren was 35, and Carolyn, just 33 years old.   For our third series on I'd Rather Be Reading, we are focusing on John, Carolyn, and Lauren ahead of the 25-year anniversary of their tragic deaths on July 16. To kickstart our series we have the brilliant biographer Christopher Andersen, who has written 35 books, many of them bestsellers, and two of them about JFK Jr. specifically. Christopher is our guest today to provide context to the landscape of John's life in 1999; we will later talk to many people who knew John and Carolyn, but to lay the groundwork for those conversations, I thought Christopher would be the perfect person. He has worked at Time and later as a senior editor at People; he has also written for The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Life, and The New York Daily News. He has appeared on nearly every media outlet you can think of discussing culture, and has written many, many books on the Kennedys, the royal family, Katharine Hepburn, Madonna, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, the Clintons, the Bushes, the Obamas, Barbra Streisand, and so many more. Today, we're focusing on two of his books: The Day John Died, released in 2000, and The Good Son: JFK. Jr. and the Mother He Loved, which came out in 2014. Both are fantastic, and I'm excited to kick our series off today and for you to hear from Christopher. On July 19th, 1969, Joan's world changed again. This time, it was the final nail in the coffin she'd already been living in… “There's been an accident.” Ted's voice said from the other end— he sounded strained and quivery… like he was crying. “Oh no, Ted… What now?” What came next, What now?, was a bomb dropped straight into her bedroom—the truth that exploded all over her life. What came next… was the death of everything. “A girl drowned, Joansie. And there was nothing I could do. There's a significant connection between a lavish resort hotel in southern Indiana and an Irish immigrant who became the mayor of Indianapolis as well as a powerful political boss in the early 1900s. There's also a connection to a major amphitheater that was dedicated at Riverside Park in the summer of 2021 in honor of the colorful former mayor, who was known as the "father of the Indianapolis park system". The French Lick Springs Hotel wasn't always lavish. In the 1840s, a modest hotel was built on the property in Orange County that's long been touted for its mineral springs that are said to have healing qualities. It took colorful Thomas Taggart (1856-1929), who bought the French Lick hotel after his three terms as Indianapolis mayor, to make it a showplace known for its spas, gambling, gardens, gourmet dining and distinguished guests. By then, Taggart, a Democrat, was a nationally known political boss. He eventually bought a summer home for his family on Cape Cod at Hyannis Port, where their next-door neighbors were the famous Kennedy family.

Maintenant qu'on m'a retiré mon plâtre j'irai où bon me semble ! NIMBYism and BANANAism hampering US energy production (12-15-2022--Hour2)

Edward Luce at the Financial Times says the political left in America has a "NIMBY problem." This pinpoints two problems with America's left. The first is an instinct for moral gesture over practical action. Many philosophers judge the goodness of an action by its outcome — in this case, sharply cutting carbon emissions. Others say an action's morality should be judged by its intention – in this case, refusing to compromise on your reputational virtue. If you want to know why New York still lacks a congestion pricing system, or California's high-speed rail system is a white elephant, you must confront the left's moral preferences. In neither of those stymied projects are Republicans the main problem. The left's second failing is hypocrisy. The “not in my backyard” instinct is hidden everywhere in plain sight. It explains why ultraliberal San Francisco's housing is unaffordable: rich people do not want their property values marred by construction or their neighbourhoods filled with the wrong people. It explains why residents of the wealthy holiday island of Nantucket are blocking an offshore wind farm on the flimsy claim that it would disturb the local whales. The reality is they do not want their view spoiled. This could have been America's first major offshore wind farm. The previous attempt in nearby Cape Cod was partly killed by the late Ted Kennedy, the local senator and scion of the family's Hyannis Port compound. Nimbyism captures both of the left's worst traits: it is often those who most loudly profess their principles who are quickest to veto any disruption to their own lives. The economist Tyler Cowen labels the problem “banana” – build absolutely nothing anywhere near anything. The left and Republicans are strewing banana skins in the way of America's clean energy transition.    Get exclusive content here!: https://thepetekalinershow.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Good Moron to you…yes, this is a lengthy episode, HOWEVER in this episode we finish our conversation with Cheryl Hines!  And we cover a lot of ground.  Among other things we talk about: The Kennedy rights-of-passage that she had to undergo before marrying into the Kennedy family which may or may not have included secret passageways underneath Martha’s Vinyard and Hyannis Port.   Whether Cheryl had to take a closed door blood oath before the actual marriage vows were exchanged before being indoctrinated into the Kennedy family.  Spoiler alert: I just made that up. She didn’t.   She talks a bit about the Kennedy family and how they’re a lot like most families… large families that is, and they’re a lot more laid back than we project in our minds about them.  She mentions the matriarch of the family Ethel who is RFK’s widow and 92 years old. They had eleven children together. Eleven… So, yeah… big family.   We talk about our first jobs in Los Angeles when were struggling actors.  Cheryl went on to become a star and I’m certainly no longer a struggling actor… I’m just struggling.  Thank you very much. (rimshot) And a crazy story of Cheryl having to go to a State Hospital which is the equivalent of a Stanley Kubrik film version of The Shining which happened just as the very first Curb Your Enthusiasm HBO special was airing so she was literally on the verge of having a real career and there she is in a state hospital slash looney bin. We’re Shootin’ the Sh*t with Cheryl, which is a live streaming show of hers that YOU can be a part of and I’ll tell you about at the end on the Modern Moron CLOSE So there you have it, The Modern Moron is now the official platform when Cheryl Hines wants to … um, have a platform.   Actually if you’re a superfan of Cheryl’s you can go to https://www.officialcherylhines.com/ that’s all one word, she has an online show right now Called “Shootin’ the Shit with Cheryl” and you can get some face-time with Cheryl and her guest.  It’s a weekly live streaming event. Jackie is a speculative historical drama that seeks to give us a peek into the hypothetical goings on of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy in the week following the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963. The First Lady has taken up temporary residence at the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, MA, where she is visited and interviewed by a journalist working for Life Magazine for an exclusive expose.
