I hope you all had a blessed Easter weekend, celebrating with family and friends. I have 2 special guests on today's show that give us expert insight into the economy, global trade, tariffs and U.S. manufacturing. First I talk to Kevin Hassett, the Director of the National Economic Council, to walk us through recent developments within the Trump administration. As country after country lined-up to make a deal with President Trump, the president put a pause on all tariffs except China. President Trump has now raised the tariffs to 145% in relation to China. Essentially isolating China with the most extreme tariffs set the stage for other countries to decide how they wanted to respond. Hassett says 15 countries or more will come away with a good deal in the coming days and weeks. Hassett walks us down Main St. for American consumers and small business owner as to what they can expect to pay for goods. With 2 outstanding jobs reports and a reduction in inflation, the only question yet to be answered is will China come to the table? After that, Mick Mulvaney, the former Director of the Office of Management and Budget as well as the former White House Chief of Staff gives us his insight into global trade and the budget. Are the tariffs more effective as a negotiating tool or a real source of income for the United States? Can domestic industries that have been squandered be brought back to life? The Senate only cut $4 Billion in spending, showing they aren't interested in saving money as the GOP is making a push to make the 2017 tax cuts permanent. Stick around to the end for a tour of the White House press briefing room! What if a simple molecule could revolutionize health and longevity?n this Salad with a Side of Fries episode, Jenn Trepeck welcomes Greg the Hydrogen Man, a molecular hydrogen therapy specialist, researcher, and the voice behind the popular YouTube channel Uprising 144k. Greg shares his journey of overcoming severe health challenges through molecular hydrogen and how this powerful antioxidant can optimize cellular health, reduce oxidative stress, and support overall well-being. From uncovering groundbreaking research in Japan to witnessing his father's recovery from arthritis, Greg dives deep into the science and potential of hydrogen therapy. He also sheds light on common misconceptions, warning about low-quality hydrogen products that may do more harm than good. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, discussing wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. IN THIS EPISODE: (05:13) Greg shares his healing journey using molecular hydrogen (14:10) How Japan has integrated hydrogen therapy into medical practice(18:55) Greg shares his father's story of recovery from arthritis(27:00) Greg talks about the continuing research of molecular hydrogen (34:57) How does hydrogen create these positive results in cellular health(42:52) Quality is keyKEY TAKEAWAYS: Greg shares his journey of overcoming severe health challenges by incorporating molecular hydrogen into his routine. He warns about misleading hydrogen products, particularly hydrogen tablets, which may contain harmful compounds and alter water's pH in undesirable ways.Despite promising results and increasing research, molecular hydrogen therapy remains relatively unknown in mainstream healthcare. Greg noted that Japan has integrated hydrogen therapy into medical practice, while in the U.S., financial interests and misinformation may be slowing its adoption. Hydrogen is significantly smaller than other antioxidants, allowing it to reach deep into the mitochondria and every part of the body where other antioxidants cannot. This makes it particularly effective in combating oxidative stress linked to inflammation and various diseases.QUOTES:(11:08) “It's important to use hydrogen properly because it needs to be safe, but you want it to be effective. So we want it to work.” Greg the Hydrogen Man(21:41) “We don't realize the value of our health until it's jeopardized. Right? And then we realize how little these other things matter.” Jenn Trepeck(36:27) “They put hydrogen there because they had already seen that it was having a positive effect on all these medical conditions.” Greg the Hydrogen Man(37:26) “Inflammation is essentially the source of all sickness, illness, disease. It is oxidative stress, like the rusting of our insides.” Jenn Trepeck(40:04) “Hydrogen is the most abundant element.” Jenn Trepeck(48:51) “When we can increase the nutrient density and the way nutrients reach the different body parts, there's so much possibility.” Jenn TrepeckRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramBiostack Over BiohackBecome a Member to Receive 10% Discount off H2 TabsNutrition Nugget: AntioxidantsWhat's Your Biological AgeGUEST RESOURCES:Uprising144K Hydrogen Man - PodcastGreg Hman - InstagramHoly Hydrogen Machine - WebsiteMy Pure Water - Carbon Distiller - WebsiteGUEST BIOGRAPHY: Greg the Hydrogen Man is a molecular hydrogen therapy specialist, researcher, and host of the popular YouTube channel Uprising144K. She has a background in pediatrics and genetics from training in Hungary and the U.S., and currently leads the genetics and genomics department at Mount Sinai.Note: Podcast episodes are fully available to paid subscribers on the M&M Substack and to everyone on YouTube. Partial versions are available elsewhere.Episode Summary: Dr. Eva Morava discusses the critical role of glycosylation in biology, where sugars are not just used for energy but in modifying proteins to perform their functions. She explains how defects in this process lead to CDGs, a group of rare genetic disorders. The conversation covers the mechanics of glycosylation, clinical presentations of CDGs, current research on treatments including dietary interventions and gene therapy, and the broader implications of glycosylation in health, such as in liver disease and cancer.Key Takeaways:Glycosylation Basics: Sugars are attached to proteins (glycosylation) to modify their structure and function, influencing everything from clotting to immune response.CDGs: These disorders are caused by genetic defects in the glycosylation process, leading to a wide array of symptoms because many proteins require glycosylation to function correctly.Clinical Variability: CDGs can range from severe, multi-systemic presentations to relatively mild cases, affecting life expectancy and quality of life variably.Therapeutic Approaches: Current research includes drug repurposing for enzyme activity enhancement, dietary interventions with special sugars like mannose, and gene therapy, with some trials underway.Liver Connection: A significant portion of glycosylation occurs in the liver; thus, liver diseases like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can impact glycosylation.*Not medical advice.Support the showAll episodes (audio & video), show notes, transcripts, and more at the M&M Substack Affiliates: MASA Chips—delicious tortilla chips made from organic corn and grass-fed beef tallow. The largest solar farm on the ocean is now running off the coast of China as the country continues to invest in ways to support its sustainable energy needs.  In the "How to Protect the Ocean" podcast, host Andrew Lewin discusses China's deployment of the world's largest open sea offshore solar panel farm. The project, developed by CHN Energy, spans 1,223 hectares (3,023 acres) and is located 8 kilometers off the coast of China. It aims to generate one gigawatt of renewable energy and is notable for its innovative use of offshore solar technology. Pros of the Offshore Solar Project Efficient Land Use: Utilizing water bodies for solar energy reduces the need for land clearing and habitat destruction typically associated with land-based solar farms. Reduced Evaporation: The solar panels cover the water surface, which can help conserve water by reducing evaporation rates in reservoirs and agricultural areas. Improved Solar Efficiency: The cooling effect of water can enhance the efficiency of solar panels compared to those installed on land. Dual Use Potential: Floating solar farms can coexist with hydroelectric facilities, optimizing energy production and utilizing existing infrastructure. Algal Bloom Reduction: The solar panels can help suppress harmful algal blooms in aquatic systems by limiting sunlight penetration. Clean Energy Generation: The project contributes to renewable energy production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. Cons of the Offshore Solar Project Impact on Aquatic Systems: The shade from solar panels may alter water temperature and light penetration, potentially disrupting habitats for aquatic plants and animals. Habitat Disruption: The solar farm installation could affect fish spawning areas and migratory patterns, similar to concerns raised about wind farms. Material Degradation: Using plastics and metals in solar structures could lead to microplastic contamination and chemical pollution over time. Recreational Disruption: Floating solar farms may hinder recreational activities, fishing, and navigation in the area. Installation Risks: The anchoring and cabling required for the solar systems could disturb sediments and harm local aquatic habitats. Vulnerability to Weather Events: The structures may be susceptible to damage from storms, hurricanes, and flooding, potentially releasing debris or pollutants into the water. The episode emphasizes the need for careful planning and mitigation strategies to address the potential environmental concerns associated with floating solar farms. While the project presents a promising opportunity for renewable energy generation, it also raises important questions about the ecological impacts on marine environments. The host encourages listeners to engage in the conversation about the balance between renewable energy development and ocean conservation. This shift echoes historical patterns of societal organization and reflects humanity's inherent need for smaller, more cohesive groups to navigate cultural and generational changes. The Intersection of Technology, Faith, and Society: Ben shares a unique perspective on integrating faith with technology and investment. He posits that both fields share a common goal of enabling human flourishing, arguing that spiritual and technological frameworks can work together to solve pressing global challenges while fostering a sense of purpose and connection.

Today, Alex Cabot and Ed Lambert from Birch Run Financial dive into the intersection of politics and financial markets, focusing on the upcoming election. We discuss widespread market myths and offer a data-driven approach to navigating political cycles as an investor.Alex begins by addressing common misconceptions about election years and market volatility. Despite popular belief, election years do not inherently cause heightened volatility. Examining the past nine presidential elections, Alex highlights that only three were more volatile than average—2000, 2008, and 2020—events driven not by elections, but by major economic crises such as the tech bubble burst, the financial crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic.Another misconception Alex tackles is the belief that markets perform better under Republican administrations due to their perceived pro-business stance. Historical data shows that markets have actually done well under both Democratic and Republican presidencies. Staying invested throughout all political cycles, regardless of the party in power, yields better long-term results, as markets ultimately respond more to economic fundamentals than to political leadership.Ed wraps up the discussion with an optimistic outlook on the U.S. economy. He emphasizes that, no matter the election outcome, the U.S. will continue to be the world's dominant economic power. Key statistics reinforce this point: the U.S. GDP is currently 55% larger than China's, and the country leads in energy production and technological innovation. He also points to the U.S.'s demographic advantages, including high immigration rates, which help sustain economic growth compared to other developed nations with aging populations. The episode underscores the importance of remaining calm and focused on long-term financial goals, no matter the election results. The U.S. economy is resilient, and sound investment strategies should not be swayed by political fearmongering or short-term volatility. For the world to meet its growing need for low-cost clean energy and achieve ambitious decarbonization targets, land-based onshore wind energy must be an increasingly large part of the electricity generation mix—potentially as much as 20-41% by 2050, according to BloombergNEF and the International Energy Agency (IEA). But there is a challenge: the most efficient and cost-effective wind turbines, currently applied only in offshore wind farms, have enormous blades—some longer than a football field. That makes them extremely difficult, if not impossible, to deliver and deploy, as bridges, tunnels, and road curves literally get in the way.To explore how the onshore wind industry can overcome these obstacles and drive further growth for the sector, Gil Jenkins spoke with Mark Lundstrom, Founder and CEO of Radia. Mark is a serial cross-industry entrepreneur and MIT aerospace engineer who has co-founded companies over the course of his career that seek to bring aerospace solutions to new sectors, including biotech, telecommunications, and materials science. With Radia, Mark is focused on applying these technologies to the low-carbon energy transition. Radia is in the process of building the world's largest aircraft, which will enable the deployment of the industry's biggest and best wind turbines to locations they could never reach before—creating more clean power at a lower cost.Links:Radia WebsiteMark Lundstrom on LinkedInRadia on LinkedInPress Release:Radia to Provide Low-Cost Clean Energy with the World's Biggest Wind Turbines Enabled by the World's Largest Aircraft (March 17, 2024)Press Release: Aerospace Leaders Aernnova, Leonardo and AFuzion Will Partner With Radia to Build WindRunner™, World's Largest Aircraft (July 16, 2024)Whitepaper: DeSolve Study: GigaWind has enormous economic and environmental impact (Princeton University researchers Dr. Jesse Jenkins and Dr. Nestor Sepulveda - September 1, 2023)Episode recorded August 22, 2024  Email your feedback to Chad, Gil, and Hilary at climatepositive@hasi.com or tweet them to @ClimatePosiPod.
