It's the profound arts that are usually the most delicate...On this episode as we wade into the deep end of Emmy consideration season, we take a look at a very specific episode from a series that created a very specific tone for the rest of the show going forward. It's time for 'Love Story: John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette'This show explores the undeniable chemistry, whirlwind courtship and high-profile marriage of one of the most iconic couples of the 20th century, John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.Without giving too much away, we looked in on Episode 5 of this series where John and Carolyn have a very public confrontation which sets both their stories down a very different path. We talked with editor Franzis Muller about the work she did on this episode because while it's about John and Carolyn having a fight, it's one we see through the eyes of the paparazzi who are following them from a pretty considerable distance. It was on Franzis to craft a sense of distance yet intimacy that unfolded at the same time.Franzis gives us some insights on the art of editing and so very much more. 'Love Story: John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette' is available on Hulu and Disney+ now.

In this episode, Heather and Dr. Carol Lynn catch up after a brief hiatus to discuss what they've been watching during their downtime. From the high-society drama of The Madison to the cigarette-smoke-filled rooms of 1960s Mad Men, the BFFs dive deep into the nostalgia of the past and the "glitz and glam" they're craving today. They also swap "boy mom" stories about the unique challenges of middle school hygiene and share a few book-to-movie recommendations. In This Episode, We Discuss: Current TV Obsessions: * The Madison: Heather and Carol Lynn discuss the beautiful setting and the "ageless" Michelle Pfeiffer. Mad Men: Deep dive into the 1960s—the furniture, the fashion, and the shocking (by today's standards) cultural norms like littering and drinking at the office. The Love Story: The uncanny resemblance of the actor playing JFK Jr. and the fascination with Martha's Vineyard real estate prices from 1979. A Man on the Inside: Dr. Carol Lynn's recommendation featuring Ted Danson as a spy in a retirement community. The Nostalgia Factor: Why watching shows set in the 60s and 70s feels like a trip back to childhood, and Heather's attempt to introduce her kids to classics like Gilligan's Island and I Dream of Jeannie (with hilarious results). Life with Teenage Boys: The "Do Not Care Club" of middle school hygiene. From the struggle to get them to bathe to the overpowering scent of AXE body spray, the struggle is real! Book Talk: Heather shares her love for The Housemaid series by Freida McFadden and compares the reading experience to the film adaptation. Moxie Style: Why the older we get, the more we need sparkles, fringe, and feathers. Dr. Lynn reveals her latest "Megan from Mad Men" inspired purchase. Mentioned in This Episode: TV Shows: The Madison (Apple TV+), Mad Men, The Love Story (JFK Jr. & Carolyn Bessette), A Man on the Inside (Netflix), Gilligan's Island, Family Affair. Inside George Magazine: Lisa DePaulo on JFK Jr., Journalism, and Getting the Story RightThat second call brought the Dunmore, Pennsylvania, native into one of the most influential media spaces of the 1990s.DePaulo shares what it was like to work with JFK Jr. as an editor, how he shaped her approach to reporting, and what he understood about the balance between access and restraint. She reflects on the culture inside George, where politics and celebrity met, and where strong journalism still drove the work. The conversation also turns to the FX series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. DePaulo offers a measured perspective on what the show captures well and where it misses, especially when it comes to the emotional truth behind public figures. This episode is about judgment.Protecting sources.Standing by your work. And it is about the moment that stayed with her.The call she planned to make. The news that followed instead.Clear, thoughtful and grounded, this conversation reflects what journalism looks like at its best.
We watched the tragic story of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette in the FX series “Love Story.” But while the love story of John’s parents, JFK Sr. and Jackie Kennedy, had major differences, it also had some striking similarities. In this Unfiltered episode of Fixing Healthcare, Drs. Robert Pearl and Jonathan Fisher join cohost Jeremy Corr to explore one of medicine's least discussed forces: how professional culture gradually reshapes physician identity. The conversation begins with relationships using an unlikely touchpoint: FX's Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Using marriage, friendship, doctor-patient dynamics and colleague trust as a launching point, Pearl and Fisher examine how stress, burnout and emotional spillover affect the people clinicians care about both at home and at work. Fisher draws on his retreat work with healthcare professionals to explain why slowing down, reconnecting socially and stepping outside the clinical environment are often prerequisites for restoring empathy and perspective. Midway through, the discussion deepens into the powerful theme introduced through the popular SHOWTIME show Billions: the way workplace environments subtly redefine who people become over time. In medicine, that process can begin as early as the first weeks of training. Small acts of conformity, repeated decisions at the edge of one's values and cultural reinforcement gradually shift how physicians think, behave and ultimately define themselves. The result is a larger question that runs through the entire episode: How do clinicians preserve their humanity, relationships and deepest values inside a system that often rewards speed, hierarchy and productivity over reflection and connection? Finally, Jeremy's closing question on behalf of patients helps to push both physicians to confront a national reality: when specialist access takes months, compassion must be communicated quickly and system design must improve the patient experience itself. We've all fallen for it... the dreamy fairytale that says if you become the perfect woman (quiet, low-maintenance, effortlessly elegant, always putting him first), a quality man will finally choose you and make everything better. In this eye opening episode of Quality Queen Control, Asha Christina dismantles the Carolyn Bessette Illusion that seductive image of the ultimate cool girl who “won” the ultimate man, and the dangerous myth that centering your entire identity, style, decisions, and worth around male approval is the path to happiness. You'll uncover the psychology behind why so many high-value women shrink into this role (fear of being “too much,” self-abandonment disguised as femininity, and the hidden comfort of external validation), and why it actually repels the very kings they want. The real shift? Stop auditioning for his story and become the main character of your own.Reclaim your desires, rebuild your self-concept from the inside, embrace healthy polarity, and magnetize quality men who celebrate the full, unapologetic version of you.No more living someone else's fairytale. This is your invitation to write your own as the queen who chooses herself first.

The latest from the Ryan Murphy television fun house is an unquestionable hit. It's also a '90s nostalgia bomb. People are trying to eat, shop and dress like John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. They're obsessed. But with what, exactly? Because at first, “Love Story” has all the hallmarks of a '90s sitcom — a young working woman in the city, enjoying her freedom till a meet-cute with the one. Only in Murphy's version, that's the moment this turns into another one of his American Horror stories. Subscribe today at nytimes.com/podcasts or on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The Washington Roundtable is off today, and will be back next week. In the meantime, enjoy an episode of The New Yorker's Critics at Large podcast about the FX series “Love Story,” which drops audiences into the lives of one of the most talked-about couples of the nineties: J.F.K., Jr., and the style icon Carolyn Bessette. The hosts Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz, who are staff writers and critics at The New Yorker, discuss how the show re-creates the look and fashion of the era in granular detail while reducing the relationship itself to a generic fairy tale. “Love Story” 's focus on style underscores how much the Kennedy legacy lives in aesthetics, which risks obscuring some of the darker chapters of its history. “It does seem like we have ever more efficiently stripped the Kennedys and their image, and their style, from any notions of political power,” Cunningham says. “The look of something and the sort of moral thrust of something are not always one to one working in parallel.”New episodes of “Critics at Large” drop every Thursday, wherever you get your podcasts. Mom guilt, red strings, Chanel loafers, and a possible Jim Carrey clone — this week covers it all. With both kids under the weather, Stassi and Taylor take some much-needed mom time to vent before getting into their very different shopping styles, Stassi's designer shoe tendencies versus Tay's bang-for-your-buck flair, plus Taylor admitting she still feels a little guilty for selling Stassi her shoes years ago. Stassi wasn't sold on the red string, but after Beau's very good week, she's officially paying attention. They get into the Jim Carrey clone conspiracy and catch up on Love Story and why Carolyn Bessette's style still has the internet talking. Thanks for supporting our sponsors:Revolve: Shop at http://REVOLVE.com/STASSI and use code STASSI for 15% off your first order. #REVOLVEpartnerThrive: Amplify your spring look with Thrive Causemetics. In this re-air of my interview with author Elizabeth Beller, we revisit the life and legacy of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the enigmatic wife of John F. Kennedy Jr., whose story continues to fascinate a generation. With renewed interest sparked by the upcoming FX series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, inspired by Beller's book, this conversation feels more timely than ever. In Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Beller reexamines Carolyn's life beyond the tabloid mythology. She explores Carolyn's early years, her career in fashion, her complicated relationship with fame, and the intense media scrutiny that defined her marriage. The result is an effervescent and deeply researched portrait of a woman often misunderstood — stylish yet private, modern yet steeped in the weight of American legacy.
