Florida State continued its spring camp journey on Thursday, hitting the field for the second of 15 practices aimed at laying the foundation for this year's edition of FSU football. It was another helmets-only day for the Seminoles as acclimation to on-field action continued, offering an opportunity for the squad to refine the finer details ahead of the first padded practice of the spring on Saturday. “[It was a] great opportunity to clean up on some of the finer details of what we put in yesterday. You had a little bit of new installation, but really with a lot of new faces, also some new terminology, new alignments, different things that we're looking at on both sides of the ball,” head coach Mike Norvell said Thursday evening. “Day one, it's about: ‘Can you get communication? Can you get aligned?' You go back and watch the film, the communication was good, but we're off on some of the alignments. You want to see guys be able to take the coaching, be able to apply it, and be better today, and I thought that was the case.” Defensive linemen Darrell Jackson Jr. and James Williams, who also spoke with the media following practice, earned praise from Norvell for the way they've carried themselves through the early days of spring. “You feel their ownership. ... Those are two guys that you challenge in the room because they both do have experience and high ceilings. [Jackson Jr.] made the choice to come back and I told him, ‘You better not even think about coming back unless you plan on being a top 10 pick,' that's the expectation now.” Norvell also complimented receivers Jalen Brown and Hykeem Williams, saying they have risen to the occasion after being challenged this offseason. “[They're] two guys that made the choice that they want to fight for it. And I'm grateful for that and I'm trying to push them on a play-to-play basis for them to continue to elevate to what I believe that they can be. I've seen both of them in the first two days make plays that get me excited.” Defensively, Norvell discussed what he's seen early from Earl Little, Ashlynd Barker, Max Redmond and the unit as a whole, saying, “Obviously not a whole lot of contact ... but you felt the burst, you felt the guys taking better angles to the ball. Excited about Saturday being the first padded day to start to showcase some of the physicality that these guys have been working to develop.” Learn more about your ad choices. Usually, Florida State football takes center stage in Tallahassee. Not today. As the football team started doing their outside work, the baseball team began batting practice. At the same time, Lottie Woad started doing an interview about her accomplishments at Augusta National this past weekend. Of course, Mike Norvell does not care about the outside noise, and he guided his team to one of their cleanest practices of the spring. Both sides of the ball focused on fundamentals in the early portion of practice, such as blocking and tackling. The offense and defense battled competitively throughout the day, each taking turns and winning consistent reps. The day started with the defense dominating, as they only allowed one positive play during 11-on-11 in the first portion of practice. However, the offense responded, and their receivers later led the charge. Momentum swung when Lawayne McCoy caught a pass over the middle, and instantly, AZ Thomas drilled him into the ground. He held on, and it sparked the group. A few plays later, Hykeem Williams found himself wide open as his corner route busted the defense's zone, drawing praise from Mike Norvell. One of the keys to the resurgence came from the offensive line. Today felt like one of their most consistent days, as they picked up blitzes nicely and gave the quarterbacks a clean pocket to throw in. Of course, the defensive line did what they do during run-blocking drills, but Alex Atkins seems pleased with the group's progress. With positives all around, it felt like the scrimmage on Saturday could be a catalyst for the rest of the spring. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

(Due to a technical error, this episode was supposed to post last week but it's coming out a week late.) Mycah Pittman will be sidelined for the Seminoles for at least the next 4 to 6 months after having hip surgery. The Florida State football team has already seen someone take the lead as a possible replacement in the slot and at punt returner. Winston Wright Jr. has been taking a lot of reps in the slot according to our sources at Spring Camp and we are encouraged that FSU's depth may allow them to not miss a beat. Mike Norvell and Jordan Travis' offense shouldn't really see any drop off through the Spring and Fall. Hopefully Pittman can return through the season and contribute to a special year that the Noles should have in 2023. We are hearing very positive things about Darrel Jackson and Joshua Farmer. They've been described as UNBLOCKABLE for the Noles. Tatum Bethune and Hykeem Williams have also made some great plays and we've got some insight on how a backup QB has looked during Spring as well. A FIVE Star Recruit has everyone surprised after he revealed something SURPRISING at Florida State University this weekend. After meeting with National Championship winning QB, Jameis Winston, he told the media something nobody expected. We also shared some insight on when we might expect a commitment from 5 Star Defensive Back Charles Lester III. 5 Star Running back Target Kam Davis sounds like he could be shutting down his recruitment soon as well. The Seminole commit is currently the highest rated player in FSU's recruiting class. Mike Norvell and FSU are building something special in this class and we're going to continue to cover all FSU Football news related to recruiting, spring practice and more. Insight on another possible injury over on our discord. Sign up for access here: https://patreon.com/dfns Support our friends over at https://thegramco.com! TJ25 for 25% off! Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles! Drake and Dave continue the way-too-early talk with the start of position previews - beginning with the wide receivers! It's tough to pick a position group on the team for “most improved” and not immediately think of the wide receivers. With a handful of transfers coming in at the position entering 2022, hopes were high for a long-awaited turnaround at the position; and that's exactly what we got. With a breakout season from Johnny Wilson making tough catch after tough catch, to Mycah Pittman proving himself equal parts reliable and hard-nosed, the position finally saw competency and production, allowing Jordan Travis and the offense as a whole to flourish. Entering 2023, the ‘Noles bring back the vast majority of key contributors at the WR position, with Johnny Wilson and Mycah Pittman sure to start; Kentron Portier and Darrion Williamson showing flashes that warrant meaningful playing time; 2022 transfer Winston Wright returning from injury to try to reclaim the all-conference production he generated at West Virginia; uber-talented freshman Hykeem Williams and Vandrevius Jacobs entering the shuffle; and players like Ja'Khi Douglas and Josh Burrell still waiting for a chance to prove themselves. Indeed, the Seminoles return so much talent and production that a productive contributor like Malik McClain departed via the transfer portal. Drake and Dave are here to explain why production at wide receiver should only take another step forward in 2023, offering you their top-5 at the position and a surprise/sleeper candidate to keep an eye on. Are we being too hard on Tyler Van Dyke? Keeping in mind the change of offensive philosophy and the injuries and losses at wide receiver, should we be putting more of the blame elsewhere? Would benching him for Jake Garcia make sense right now or does Tyler deserve another chance to bounce back? Can the Miami Hurricanes benefit from making a drastic mid-season change in offensive philosophy. Would taking play-calling away from Josh Gattis and giving it to Frank Ponce make any sense?Host Alex Donno takes your questions on this mailbag episode! Donno also discusses how Miami's tough loss to Middle Tennessee may have affected recruiting. The Canes summer momentum has cooled way down in the fall. Do the Canes have a solid “plan B” at wide receiver? After missing out on Hykeem Williams, who picked FSU, the Canes are getting a visit from 4-star receiver Malachi Nelson out of Nebraska. He's 6-4 and runs the 100 meter in 10.46 seconds. Donno takes a look at the ACC betting odds this weekend courtesy of BetOnline. He finds a handful of spreads that look way too drastic in favor of home teams. Should UNC really be a 9-point favorite against Virginia Tech? What about Clemson giving a full touchdown to NC State?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!LinkedInLinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster.
