When you think of industry4.0 technologies, maybe you are thinking of them as increasing operational efficiencies. Or reducing waste. But did you know that industry4.0 technologies can drive customer experience and sales? And we are not talking about the companies that might be selling industry4.0 components to system integrators or OEMs. These are upsell and crosssell opportunities by simply gathering data from devices and overlaying that with your CRM data.In today's episode our guest, Rob Rastovich, shares his insights into how industry4.0 technologies can drive customer experience. He also provided his insights into the industry4.0 company that he ended up selling to Amazon. Finally, we discussed the differences between machine-to-machine IOT, pub-sub model and where MQTT would be a fit in the architecture, and what is required to replicate industry4.0 workloads on cloud farms. For more information on growth strategies for SMBs using ERP and digital transformation, visit our community at wbs.rocks or elevatiq.com. Industry4.0 could mean a lot of things to different people. While the idea of Industry4.0 is compelling, it requires a lot of moving pieces from identifying appropriate processes for data collection and then having monitoring and alerting infrastructure in place so that the maintenance can take action before it's too late and expensive. Condition monitoring is one area that plays a very important role with processes, especially if you have several manual interventions in the process that is likely to change the overall profile of equipment and machinery, which might result in product quality issues and rework. In today's episode, our guest, Dave Roth, shares his insights into the importance of condition monitoring for your critical equipment why that is important for industry4.0 initiatives. He also analyzes the root cause of several stories where the manual processes resulted in process variations and product quality issues. Finally, he touches on how condition monitoring can help detect the issues earlier and avoid any expensive downstream implications. For more information on growth strategies for SMBs using ERP and digital transformation, visit our community at wbs.rocks or elevatiq.com. Private Wireless - 2020, the year everything changed

Nokia Private Wireless Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 8, 2021 24:51

2020 was a pivotal year in the evolution of the #privatewirelessnetwork sector. In this podcast, we discuss how the environment around private #wireless took some significant steps forward. For one thing, traditional #CSPs realised it was important for them to create a strategy and an offering in the private wireless space. Nokia has partnered with AT&T and Verizon, large CSPs in the US, and others in Europe. Many companies that rely on a CSP for nationwide #connectivity would prefer to source a private wireless #network through their trusted CSP. #Industry4.0 projects tend to be substantial in scale and, for them to be executed well, an enterprise's IT and OT teams need to come together. We are seeing increasing evidence that the IT/OT divide is being bridged.  Previously, the OT needs of asset-heavy industry were driven by the OT team. But following the transformation from analogue to #digital that came with the end of Industry 3.0, the involvement of IT became essential.  2020 was the first year in which we saw this happening. Increasing numbers of company-wide Industry 4.0 #projects are now taking place where the OT and IT teams come to the table together to define a project and work towards a common goal.    This is a very important trend that will help to accelerate the adoption of private wireless in today's market.    However, it would not be accurate to say that private wireless has become a mass market yet. This is despite the fact that Nokia estimates that the potential market could benefit up to 15 million #commercial venues, and that increasing numbers of enterprises are making new private #LTE and #5G deployments. It is clear that private wireless is a concept that people in our industry now understand. It is also clear that many stakeholders are starting to pay close attention to the potential that mobile technology has for transforming the industry – in the same way that #mobile phones have transformed consumers' lives in the last 30 years.  But it will take many years before this is a mass market, even though there are obvious signs of acceleration in #adoption. Between 2015 and the end of 2019, Nokia secured about 120 customers in this space. In 2020 alone, that number almost doubled. Now tune into our podcast to hear more.

We discuss how the US excels at manuf. tech innovation but has work to do in adopting and scaling those technologies domestically, why it's critical to both bring new talent into and build a more inclusive manufacturing workforce, why McKinsey and the World Economic Forum created the ‘Global Lighthouse Network' to highlight the best digital manuf. efforts in the world, and having looked across over 10M factories, which innovation trends are making an impact (spoiler: it's not about a specific technology, it's about systems change). These solutions in turn provide job seekers with life changing opportunities to enter the mining industry.  Denise's Highlights0:26 Demand and Outlook for Operators 1:00 New to Industry Operator projects 2:00 The Process of New to Industry 2:40 Mining Operators & Trades Ideal for New to Industry Projects3:00 Benefits of New to Industry4:40 Upskilling Programs6:00 Success Stories around the Candidates Demand and Outlook for Operators There is a lot of demand for operators in the mining market and not a lot of experience in the market.New to Industry Operator projects With a high demand for experienced candidates her team have developed and delivered an alternative ‘New to Industry' programs to a handful of clients across multiple sites since 2017.We have coordinated assessment centres where we invite people to come in and do group activities. During these sessions we are able to assess how people work in teams and as individuals including safety exercises. We have also set up recruitment days where people can see if they are the right match to transfer from other industries and fit the site's culture. The Process of New to Industry During the first couple of weeks they undergo predominantly classroom based courses including an introductory to mining; during this time they can be a passenger in a truck or a assimilator. After 4-6 weeks they are able to drive the truck themselves with another person and shortly after that they are able to drive the truck solo. Mining Operators & Trades Ideal for New to Industry ProjectsSimilar initiatives are also offered on the mining trades side including auto electricians, diesel fitters, high voltage electrician from industrial, lite vehicle, heavy transport, army, marine, and agri sectors.Benefits of New to IndustryNew to Industry programs offer others in their current workforce to upskill that in turn allows more room for truck operators to start; it boosts staff morale with new people and a different set of eyes on things. There are also great cultural upsides and most new to industry candidates are excited to start their career in mining who have longer retention periods.Businesses who have participated have also been able to add diversity to their sites, focusing particularly on females and Aboriginal & Torres strait islanders.Upskilling ProgramsWe have also had interest in upskilling other workers from alternative industries e.g. construction operators and transferring those skills to mine sized machinery. It is a lot quicker compared to New to Industry because they understand the basics of operation; it is more about the upskilling in spacial awareness and getting to know the bigger gear. Success Stories around the Job SeekersThere have been great Job Seeker successes where it has had a major impact including spending more time with family, buying houses and starting families earlier, transferring to civilian life and new employment opportunities are needed to name a few. With the market as tight as what it is and border restrictions etc still in play, upskilling programs can enable businesses to continue to grow as well as be life changing for the candidates.

South Africa’s education system is broken. We know this from the graduation statistics that surface year after year. But we also know this from the unemployment rate - and specifically youth unemployment rate of more than 50% at the end of 2018. Not only is our economy in trouble, but our youth also seems unemployable after finishing school with no hope of further tertiary studies. John Chambers, previous CEO of CISKO once famously said: " The two great equalizers in the world are education and the internet." Suhas Patel is a serial entrepreneur. He is originally from India. Suhas is living for 14 years in Germany. He started 18 startups so far. Startuprad.io visited him in a meeting room in a co-working space in Frankfurt to talk about his new venture Tvarit, an Industrial AI company. “I believe this startup has the potential to be a unicorn” Suhas calls himself a “Technology Evangelist” Before founding his startups he was working in R&D departments of Qualcomm and Intel. “With the 18 startups, I helped entrepreneurs to start their business” Suhas is working on a concept of “Business Driven Philanthropy” to build new business verticals on the latest technologies. He had to close 70% of the startups he helped to start. This is great, especially since normally 90% of startups do not survive. Now he decided to stop all his assignments and concentrate 100% on Tvarit, to make the AI startup the first unicorn in Frankfurt. “B2C Ai startups are mainly in China and the US. For B2B there is a great potential for Germany” Tvarit (त्वरित)is a Sanskrit word, almost 3000 years old, it means fast. Tvarit's core values are based on "FASTER customer journey" and "PERSISTENT prediction accuracy". The concept of Industry4.0 is misunderstood as condition monitoring. Tvarit takes a step further by taking the data from the condition monitoring and provide the analytics to give actionable insights. “we have the potential to become the SAP of Artificial Intelligence, since we can get a 360 degree view of the whole manufacturing unit.” For those, who do not understand Joe’s joke: Skynet is the evil computer AI in the Terminator franchise, trying to eliminate mankind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skynet_(Terminator) “Two things are important, execution and focus” Having strong R&D, Tvarit guarantees a patent application during the first 4-months project. “You need to execute wisely and fast” Find all the links and show notes here: https://www.startuprad.io/blog/meet-serial-entrepreneur-sushas-he-wants-to-make-tvarit-the-first-unicorn-in-frankfurt/ © Startuprad.io - All right reserved

“we have the potential to become the SAP of Artificial Intelligence, since we can get a 360 degree view of the whole manufacturing unit.” For those, who do not understand Joe's joke: Skynet is the evil computer AI in the Terminator franchise, trying to eliminate mankind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skynet_(Terminator) “Two things are important, execution and focus” Having strong R&D, Tvarit guarantees a patent application during the first 4-months project. “You need to execute wisely and fast” Find all the links and show notes here: https://www.startuprad.io/blog/meet-serial-entrepreneur-sushas-he-wants-to-make-tvarit-the-first-unicorn-in-frankfurt/  © Startuprad.io - All right reserved --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/deeptechgermany/message This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podder - https://www.podderapp.com/privacy-policy Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy Feedback We are always looking for ways to make the show better. Host Jéan Roux talks to MineRP's in-house SAP expert Ockert van Schalkwyk (ovschalkwyk@minerp.com). They discuss MineRP and SAP's combined view on the mining industry and the value thereof. MineRP and SAP are both platforms for integrated enterprise information. Both carry true information about the same physical entities but seen through different lenses. MineRP provides a full vertically integrated mine plan, whereas SAP carries both financial and logistical elements of the plan with a high-integrity transaction base. By integrating these platforms, it becomes possible to facilitate a fully functional planning system – from life of mine to millisecond if desired. In addition, further integration also allows recording of Mine Development functionality and Ore Management functionality.
