This week on Rom-Com Vom, we're switching things up! Instead of cringing our way through a rom-com relic, we're talking about a brand-new release that's changing the game and pushing the genre forward. Good Bad Things puts a disabled love story front and center—no pity, no clichés, just a rom-com that finally gets it right. Danny Kurtzman, the film's star, co-writer, and producer, and Steve Way, executive producer, join DB to talk about breaking stereotypes, rewriting rom-com history, and what it really means to see yourself on screen. Plus: the deep friendship at the heart of this love story, the worst disability tropes that need to die, and why it matters who gets to tell these stories. GUEST DETAILS Danny Kurtzman is a physically disabled actor, model, entrepreneur, and advocate for the disabled community. Today Danny's passion lies in making this world a more powerful place for all disabled individuals by using his platform to spread his disability pride and tell the world that despite being physically disabled that he says "there's nothing wrong with my body." Danny just wrapped his first feature film, Good Bad Things, where he's the main actor alongside the talented Brett Dier and Jessica Parker Kennedy. Danny also co-wrote and Produced Good Bad Things with his childhood friend and talented director Shane D. Stanger. Steve Way is a substitute teacher by day and stand up comedian by night. He was born with Muscular Dystrophy and is an advocate for disability awareness. Steve performs stand up in the NJ/NY area, motivational speeches around the country, can be seen on the Hulu show Ramy. As we often talk about on Collider Ladies Night, every path in this business is different, and those paths often evolve along the way. That's exactly what happened to The White Lotus' Haley Lu Richardson.Richardson plays Portia on Season 2 of the hit HBO show. This time around, creator, writer and director Mike White takes the luxury, overindulgence, and often awful behavior to a White Lotus resort in Taormina, Sicily. The only main character from Season 1 to bounce from one getaway to the next is Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya McQuoid, and this time around, she's bringing her assistant, Richardson's Portia, along for the ride. With The White Lotus well into its Season 2 run, Richardson joined us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to revisit her early Disney and Nickelodeon ambitions and to discuss how she went on to build a filmography packed with bold genre movies, touching romantic dramas, independent gems, and spicy satire with The White Lotus. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Why are we rereleasing this episode? TO CELEBRATE NEWLY MINTED Ph.D. SHAWNA, our resident sexpert on this episode. On this episode of Make Out Already, we discuss the movie The New Romantic, which you can currently stream on Netflix. It's about a college student who enters into a mutually beneficial relationship so she can document her sugarbaby experiences in hopes of winning a journalism grant. We'll talk about whether the movie fits the criteria for a romance and what the movie says about the genre, and we'll bring in an expert to talk about the movie's exploration of sex work through an academic lens. We'll go off on tangents about time travel, disagree heatedly about Brett Dier, and declare our undying love for the BDE of one Camila Mendes. We would very much like to thank our guest this episode, our resident sexpert @shawna_felkins, PhD candidate in gender and women's studies, sex work researcher, and all-around badass. Make sure to subscribe and follow wherever you listen to your podcasts, and follow us on Instagram @makeoutalreadypod and Twitter @makeout_already. Have a book recommendation for us? Slide into our DMs, or email us at makeoutalready@gmail.com. To make the Hopeless Romantic Float, use Fentimans Traditional Rose Lemonade (Liz got hers from Target) and homemade vanilla ice cream. For the ice cream, she used a 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk, a cup of milk, and a teaspoon of vanilla. Stir the ingredients together, chill for 30 minutes before putting into an ice cream maker for 10 to 20 minutes, then store in the freezer for a few hours. If you don't have an ice cream maker, just put the mixture straight in the freezer. Add two scoops to your prettiest glass, pour the lemonade over the ice cream, and sip while daydreaming about your crush. Spike it if you wanna! This was decadent and so delicious. Need a little excitement but maybeee don't want to go as far as getting drugged by your roommate? Us too. Try these Cupcakes for Two. In this season finale episode instead of leaving you with a kidnapped child, shot husband, he’s-back-from-the-dead cliffhanger… we’re wrapping up loose ends. We’ll be answering your questions, covering all the topics we haven’t yet, and of course, we’re breaking down what it really says about your view on romance if you are Team Michael or if you are Team Rafael. We even reach across the aisle this episode to chat with a Team Rafael Diehard, actor, and comedian Bianca Roses.Thank you to our partners!Just Live! It’s been years, but we’re still a little mad at The CW for putting us through the emotional turmoil we’ll be unpacking this episode. *SPOILERS AHEAD* This week on Talking Ship we’re dropping our phones, falling to our knees, and breaking out the wine to discuss Michael’s death… and Michael’s return. We’ll get into second chances and what it takes for them to work, because while exes usually don’t randomly come back from the dead… they do randomly come back into our lives. Do we owe them another shot when they do?Thank you to our partners!Just Live! and Free Prints! Even if you’ve never felt like Jane Villanueva, juggling two men who not only want to take her to brunch, but want to raise a child with her… we guarantee you’ve been in a love triangle before. This episode we discuss the Michael-Jane-Rafael love triangle, why she falls for each of them, and what we can learn from how they handle it. We’ll talk about being petty, what we *think* is sexy vs what actually is, and how being told “I’m in love with you both” is the cruelest thing you can do to someone. Additionally, we’ll break down some of our favorite Jane and Michael scenes that we still haven’t recovered from, including when they get back together and Michael asks “Does this mean we can be Facebook friends again?” #relatable.
