Birju Dattani is a Canadian human rights lawyer who worked in the Yukon and his home province of Alberta before being catapulted into the highest-profile human rights job in the country a few weeks ago. In mid-June, Canada's justice minster announced Dattani's appointment for a five-year term as chief commissioner at the federal human rights watchdog. But the ink was hardly dry on the Order-in-Council before disturbing allegations began surfacing about some anti-Israel social media posts and lectures he made a decade ago while a university student in England. Jewish groups and other researchers discovered he'd shared a panel with a virulent Islamic terrorist, protested outside the Israeli embassy and once shared an article that compared Israelis to Nazis. Now the federal justice Minister Arif Virani has launched an investigation—although he isn't rescinding the job offer, despite calls to do so from CIJA, B'nai Brith, Canadian Friends of Simon Wiesenthal and the federal Conservatives. Dattani denies he is antisemitic, saying he didn't do the things he is accused of, has apologized if the revelations caused harm to the Jewish community, and is confident he will be vindicated. But as we'll hear on today's episode of The CJN Daily, at least one prominent Jewish outfit has a hard message for Dattani: “Apology not accepted.” Shimon Koffler Fogel, the CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, joins from Ottawa to explain his position. What we talked about: Hear Michael Geist discuss his concerns about the new Online Harms law and the changes to the Canadian Human Rights Act and the powers it will give to the CHRC, on The CJN Daily. Read Birju Dattani's official statement on his LinkedIn page distancing himself from the allegations, denying them, and expressing confidence he will be vindicated. Learn more about the changes to the Canadian Human Rights Act as part of Bill C-63, introduced in the spring of 2024, in The CJN. Jewish groups are livid about a radical anti-Israel NDP motion that was passed in the House of Commons on Monday. Plus, the Nova Scotia Legislature unanimously passed a motion that opposed the April 1st carbon tax. An often overlooked governmental body at the state Capitol drew much attention Wednesday. The Minnesota State Board of Investment — which includes Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison and other top officials — had to meet in a larger room than usual, and one that made entry and exit for state officials more accessible. That's because pro-Palestinian and Jewish groups gathered there to weigh in on the state's foreign investments. The board manages public pension accounts and other investments. Those benefiting Israel make up $116.3 million dollars, or 0.14 percent of the state's portfolio, according to the governor's office.“As a nurse, this latest bombing campaign — unprecedented in the century by every measure of death and destruction — was unimaginable,” retired nurse Sarah Martin said during the meeting's public comment period. “Hospitals were at the center of Israel's attacks. My pension, which I get because I took care of sick and injured people in a state-of-the-art hospital just down the street, was used to destroy the hospitals of Gaza.”Human Rights Watch on Sunday said its investigation into an Oct. 17 strike on Gaza's Al-Ahli hospital suggests a Hamas misfire caused that blast. But Israeli bombardments have caused massive death and destruction, including at hospitals. Israel's military says Hamas uses the facilities as shields for an underground network of tunnels. The retired nurse, Martin, along with five other speakers, asked the state to divest from Israel and weapons manufacturers. The activists said the board moved on its own to divest from South Africa in the 1980s in response to apartheid, pointing to it as a precedent for the actions they want the board to take now. It's part of a global movement known as Boycott, Divest, Sanctions or BDS. Supporters want institutions and governments to withdraw investments in Israel. Some in the Jewish community say the movement is anti-Semitic.“Divestment as part of the Boycott, Divest, Sanction movement would be a profound mistake. You don't divest from the victim of an attack,” State Sen. Ron Latz, DFL-St. Louis Park, said at a press conference before the meeting. The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas organized the press conference, where Latz and other Jewish community leaders spoke about the anguish that the Israeli people and some of their friends and relatives in Minnesota are feeling in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks. And they said pulling state money from businesses there would only make things worse.Meanwhile, about seven miles west of events at the Capitol, dozens of University of Minnesota students and faculty donned Palestinian keffiyeh scarves and walked out of classes to raise awareness and support for Palestinians.“Some professors are worried about canceling class and missing important content for their students. What I have to say to that is, this right here is the content,” said anthropology and global studies professor Serra Hakyemez.Students for a Democratic Society organized the walkout. As for the investment board, it did not indicate whether Wednesday's actions would change its investment practices. Its members thanked people for their comments and ended the meeting without engaging further with the crowd. If it does take action — as it did in 2022 with Russia and Belarus and in 2009 with Iran — it will not be swift. The state typically will gradually withdraw its investments to avoid hurting pensions. For example, six months after the 2022 law went into effect, the state still had about $1 million invested in businesses tied to Russia or Belarus, with about 30 percent of those targeted for divestment. Both laws also have language exempting humanitarian relief, education and journalism organizations.

Youtube interview: https://youtu.be/K1KmT1O6BMI For years in America, Hollywood celebrities vowed to move to Canada if a Republican won the Presidential elections. Why Canada? Because Canada is our neighbor where everyone is polite, respectful, and nice to one another. Today's show, with special guest Marvin Rotrand from the Canadian Bnai Brith is here to tell another side of Canada. One that is rife with rampant and very dangerous antisemitism, especially on college campuses. On the University of Toronto Campus, The Student Union of Toronto at Scarborough passed a resolution in support of BDS, calling on the University to sever all ties with ANY organization they deem supports the state of Israel. This included ending Kosher catering for the University's Jewish students. In May of 2021, Jewish students at the U of T Medical school filed a complaint alleging defamatory and libelous comments directed at them from fellow medical students and faculty. Adding insult to injury, the school's “anti-discrimination” czar, Ritika Goel is a BDS supporter who has called support for Israel a “barbaric cultural practice.” Lest you think this antisemitism is limited to college “free-thing” activism, earlier this December, a Toronto District School Board Trustee who raised the alarms over antisemitic material distributed by another trustee was the target of a Censure for calling out the antisemitism. This year, first prize for photographic storytelling at the prestigious World Press Photo awards went to an Italian photojournalist named Antonio Faccilongo. Faccilongo's winning photo essay, titled "Habibi"—which means "my love" in Arabic"—documents the families of jailed Palestinians prisoners serving sentences in Israel. Over the years, many of these men have smuggled their semen out via test tubes or ballpoint pens hidden in chocolate bars, and their wives use this sperm to artificially inseminate themselves to bear more children. Faccilongo's images portray these women and the children born under these circumstances, but avoid referencing the crimes for which the men have been imprisoned—which include terrorism and murder. "Habibi" is part of a larger travelling photo show put on by the World Press Photo Foundation. This year, from July 22 to Aug. 15, the exhibit set up at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, a crown corporation funded in part by government money. Upon discovering this exhibit had come to Canada, some Jewish organizations launched protests. One such group was Honest Reporting Canada. Their executive director, Mike Fegelman, joins today to discuss his group's reaction to the images and why the Jewish community should be outraged. Friday is the deadline for public submissions on the hate speech reforms. But a Muslim advocacy group says the government's approach has been seriously dysfunctional. The Federation of Islamic Associations says it did not have enough time to make a meaningful submission. The federation is among a group of voluntary organisations who've told RNZ they're struggling with massive workloads, and their advocacy is suffering as a result. According to the 2016 census, Canada's Jewish population dropped by half. This year, Jewish groups want to fix the problem by making sure Jewish Canadians know how to correctly fill out the long-form census. Questions 23 and 30 are at the centre of that campaign: one asks what religion you are; the other, your ethnicity. On today's episode of The CJN Daily, Morton Weinfeld, a professor at McGill University, joins to explain what was wrong with the last census—and how this new one is supposed to be better. After that, Simon Granat, a senior manager of policy and communitations with CIJA, talks about the impact the census has on Jews across the country. This episode aired June 2020 and remains relevant today as the rioting in US cities continues. We examine the unholy alliance between Jewish groups who excuse anti-Semitism coming from their leftist allies because these same actors support legal unrestricted abortion, which many Jews use to terminate their own children. Jewish abortion happens to be the most common form of Jew hatred turned on oneself and helps accomplish the Final Solution to the Jewish problem that preoccupies the minds of radical leftists. We pray that Jewish organizations will stop demonizing Jews and Jewish organizations who speak out against anti-Semitism coming from the left, and please God, stop committing atrocities on Jewish unborn children. We share a story from the Jewish Telegraph Agency about the Zionist Organization of America(ZOA) taking the exceptional stand of criticizing the synagogue defacement in Los Angeles by BLM, and as a result being asked to leave a Jewish networking group. Then we turn to our Power Point to provide real evidence that Judaism is indeed the Original Pro-Life Religion, looking at slide #5 Sanctity of Human Life In Judaism. slide #8 What Does HaShem Say?, slide # 9 Prohibitions Against Child Sacrifice, slide #19 What Do The. Prophets Say?, and slide #97 Abortion Haunts Women. This last slide emphasizes that Judaism is a faith deeply grounded in mercy and forgiveness so that any Jew who advocates for and uses child killing can be redeemed should they realize their mistake and seek spiritual healing. For more than two weeks the U.S. has been roiling in daily often violent versus peaceful protests over allegations of black racism and white privilege triggered by videos of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody arrested for passing a $20 counterfeit bill. The nightly protests were set against the background of lurid flames and looting of minority owned businesses and fashionable stores from Manhattan to Santa Monica. In a Jewish Press opinion article entitled “God Is Dead,” Dan Greenfield illustrated how allies of the Black Lives Matter movement were torching African American and other churches including the President’s Church, St. John’s Episcopal on the periphery of Lafayette Park within steps of the White House. That episode figured in a dramatic assault with tear gas and rubber bullets clearing the protests. Greenfield cited further evidence of a pogrom in broken windows at the 225 year Reform Temple in Richmond, Virginia and the Pro -Palestinian vandalism on the facade of an Orthodox Synagogue in the Fairfax section of Los Angeles; the latter indicative of “anti-Israelism the new antisemitism.” Back in 2016, Tablet Magazine headlined a news report, “From Left to Right, Jewish Groups condemn ‘Repellent ‘Black Lives Matter Claim of Israeli ‘Genocide.’” What the media is not reporting is there are ominous signs that behind the “balagan” – chaos in slangy Hebrew- may be a disturbing anti-American Intifada. Clarion's own Shireen Qudosi speaks from the heart about why Muslim reformers work with Jewish groups in this gripping podcast. She talks of the threats and anger reformers receive from their own Muslim community as a backlash to their cooperation with Jewish individuals and organizations. Subjects covered: No one is complaining about hate imams teaming up with Jewish groups Backlash Muslims receive for teaming up with Jews It's intuitive to work with Jews Jews have already adapted their religion. We could learn from that. "Jews control everything" vs "Muslims control nothing." Jewish organizations respect freedom of movement in a way Muslims don't.
