O books Presents The Monkey in the Bodhi Tree Crazy-Wisdom & the Way of the Wise-Fool by Jason Brett Serle Release date: March 1st 2025 Categories: Eastern, Mindfulness & meditation, Rituals & Practice CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE BOOK COVER Unleash the radical, transformative power at the heart of the world's great wisdom traditions. Of the many paths up the mountain, that of crazy-wisdom, although one of the lesser travelled, presents a dramatic and formidable climb to those that are so inclined. Now for the first time, the true spiritual landscape of the wise-fool has been laid bare and its features and principal landmarks revealed. Written in two parts, loosely based on the theory and practice of crazy-wisdom, The Monkey in the Bodhi Tree is the first comprehensive look at this universal phenomenon, from its origins and development to the lives of its greatest adepts and luminaries. In addition to the theoretical foundations laid down in Part I, Part II deals with its practice and aims to demonstrate crazy-wisdom in action. To this end, 151 teaching tales from around the world have been meticulously gathered and retold to illustrate the methods of the great masters and adepts - stories that not only give practical insight but also, like Zen koans, can be used as contemplative tools to illuminate and provoke epiphany. From the enigmatic Mahasiddhas of ancient India to the eccentric Taoist poet-monks of China, from the uncompromising insights of the Buddhist Tantrikas to the unconventional wisdom of Sufi heretics and the utter surrender to God displayed by the Fools for Christ, this book will take you to a place where the boundaries of logic and reason dissolve and enlightenment awaits those daring enough to venture forth. VYS0039 | Try Not To Be A Dick Shall Be The Whole Of The Law - Vayse to Face with Duncan Barford - Show Notes After a 3 month break, Vayse returns for an interview with a person who inspired the podcast before it was even a podcast - writer, podcaster and psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counsellor, Duncan Barford. Duncan's book Occult Experiments in the Home was a major influence on Hine and Buckley's views on magick and mysticism but for this interview they zero in on aspects of his career as a therapist, focusing on mental health and how this can affect and be affected by the occult and occult practices: Why do so many prominent figures in magick seem to have mental health issues or addictions? Where do you draw the line between mystical experience and mental health disorder? How do you maintain a magical practice when your mental health isn't good? Is it safe to have a magical practice at all? and most importantly... what kind of deep-seated psychological damage is preventing Hine from remembering the name of Duncan's new book? (Recorded 12 June 2024). Two Colorado funeral home owners are facing trial after allegedly abandoning nearly 200 bodies they were responsible for cremation or burying, storing the remains in a neglected building for extended periods. Judge William Moller ruled that Carie Hallford, co-owner of Return to Nature Funeral Home, can face trial on 260 counts, including corpse abuse, money laundering, forgery, and theft. The investigation into the funeral home's practices began in early October following reports of a foul odor emanating from the building. The Hallfords were subsequently arrested in Oklahoma around a month later. Jon Hallford, also a co-owner, was initially scheduled for a preliminary hearing on January 4. However, his defense counsel requested a continuance, citing the need to review over 7,000 pages of documents. His preliminary hearing has been rescheduled to February 8. Additionally, his bond was reduced from a $2 million cash-only bond to a $100,000 cash property or surety bond. Judge Moller, at the request of Carie Hallford's attorney, significantly reduced her bond from $2 million to $100,000, potentially allowing her release from jail while the trial is pending. He noted that the crimes attributed to the Hallfords were not violent in nature, and Carie Hallford had no prior criminal record. The judge remarked, "The behavior of the Hallfords was designed to prevent the discovery of the bodies." Leading up to the discovery in October, the Hallfords faced financial difficulties, missed tax payments, eviction from one of their properties, and legal action for unpaid bills from a crematory that had ceased doing business with them. While prosecutors have not detailed a motive for the Hallfords' actions, FBI agent Andrew Cohen testified about the horrific conditions at the Penrose, Colorado building where decomposing bodies were found. The bodies were stored at room temperature, stacked on top of each other, and infested with flies and maggots. Text messages between the Hallfords revealed growing financial pressures and fears of being caught for mishandling the bodies. Jon Hallford even suggested disposing of the bodies by burying them with other deceased individuals or treating them with lye or fire, according to the presented texts. Judge Moller observed that the evidence pointed to a "pattern of ongoing behavior" aimed at evading detection. The Hallfords also allegedly provided concrete mix to families instead of ashes. Carie Hallford's lawyer, Michael Stuzynski, argued that, apart from surveillance video from September 9 showing Jon Hallford moving some bodies, there was no evidence of intentional mistreatment of the remains, suggesting "passive neglect." As the case proceeds to trial, the shocking allegations surrounding the mishandling of these bodies have left many questions unanswered and have cast a spotlight on the need for stricter oversight and regulations within the funeral home industry. In our Mysticast conversation with spiritual leader Andrew Cohen, creator of the on-line community https://www.manifest-nirvana.com where he teaches Evolvolunary Enlightenment. On this site Andrew explains -if we look deeply into our own experience, that our own emerging desire for spiritual freedom is not separate from the impulse that is driving the entire process. Listening to Andrew speak I found myself following the rhythm of this voice more than the words he was speaking. I was totally surprised to learn that Andrew had experienced the same phenomenon when attending a lecture given by Krishnamurti. J. Krishnamurti (1895-1986) is widely regarded as one of the greatest thinkers and religious teachers of all time. He spoke throughout the world to large audiences and to individuals, including writers, scientists, philosophers and educators, about the need for a radical change in mankind. The biggest parallel drawn from this exploration was the deep understanding of the oneness of all things and we are all on the evolunary path together. In The Aetherius Society teachings we are told - Today, the path to enlightenment is one of service to others. Being spiritual is not about retreating from the world, but about living in the world, helping others in some practical way. The modern-day spiritual aspirant can live in the hustle and bustle of a city like London or Los Angeles, with all of its problems, but still remain focused on the spiritual path. These “urban buddhas” devote their time to both helping others and going within. My guest today, Igal Harmelin, is an outlier. Unlike all of my other guests so far, he has devoted his whole life to a spiritual search and God. Igal Harmelin grew up in Tel Aviv in the 1950s. Already as a teenager he was, as he calls it “infected by the spiritual bug”. He was introduced to ™, Transcendental Meditation, at that time a very popular movement founded by the Indian teacher Maharishi. Igal trained and taught for over 20 years in that tradition. He then moved on to study with Andrew Cohen, an American spiritual teacher, That community exploded after Cohen was accused by some of his closest students of psychological abuse and not practising what he was preaching. For the last 10 years Igal has been training with Thomas Hübl, who is also my own spiritual teacher. In addition, Igal has been studying NARM , an advanced trauma therapy, and works as a certified Master NARM practitioner. Igal lives in New York with his wife, Rabbi Lisa Goldstein. In our conversation we examine Igals path into spirituality and his strong longing for connection with the divine. We talk about his experiences growing up as the son of Holocaust survivors. Igal shares his relationship to his spiritual teachers, good and bad, as well as his current deep interest in collective trauma. How did his life unfold? What were the drivers behind his search and the specific teachers he studied with? For me, the grandchild of Nazi perpetrators, meeting and listening to Igal always has a special and I would even say sacred dimension. As Igal himself points out: "When a German and a Jew meet, the painful presence of the Holocaust is always in the room, even if we don't address it explicitly." There is an absence, a gulf of overwhelm, shame, anxiety and not-feeling. I am very grateful for this conversation and hope you gain many insights from it too. https://www.igalharmelin.com/ https://narmtraining.com/transformingtrauma/episode-063/ https://thomashuebl.com/school-of-collective-trauma-integration/
After 18 years in Beverly Hills, Dr. Andrew Cohen moved to Encino, California, to have space for his own operating room and give his patients the best experience possible. Wanting more for his patients than just great looking results, he helps them heal better, faster, and as safely as possible so they can live a healthy, flourishing life with their results. To give prospective patients a clear idea of what to expect out of their results based on their body type, Dr. Cohen spends a lot of time taking high quality before and after photos and getting them onto his website with details such as height, weight, age, size of implants used, and amount of fat or skin removed. When he's not in the OR doing breast, body, and facial procedures, Dr. Cohen is telling dad jokes to his staff who almost always laugh, and giving back to the community by stitching up children's wounds at the local pediatric urgent care.To learn more about Dr. Andrew CohenFollow Dr. Cohen on InstagramCheck out the Daily Dad Jokes podcast that Dr. Cohen uses to spread smiles around his office ABOUT MEET THE DOCTOR The purpose of the Meet the Doctor podcast is simple. Casey and Danielle are over the moon to talk with their lord and savior Andrew Cohen, in front of a live audience, about his new book The Daddy Diaries. They get down to to some of the nittiest of gritties with him as he answers questions like "which housewife is the biggest leaker?" and "Is there something "Tender" going on with him and Anderson?" and "Which Vanderpump cast member he would F, Marry or Kill?" All that, plus some of his VPR reunion thoughts and whether Teresa and/or Melissa are coming back next season...it's a doozy. Dean's Chat host, Dr. Jeffrey Jensen, is joined by Dr. Andrew Cohen, Residency Director of the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency at Central Michigan University. This episode includes interesting discussions on what makes a great student during a clerkship month, and what they look for in residents. Tune in for a discussion on mentors from the Civic/Kern Hospital days, including Dr. Earl Kaplan, Dr. Irv Kanat, Dr. William Todd, Dr. Guy Pupp, Dr. Stuart Bass, Dr. Robert Weinstock, Dr. Gary Kapla, and other leaders that shaped our profession. Dr. Cohen and Dr. Jensen were residents together at Kern Hospital 30 years ago. In this episode of Dean's Chat, Dr. Jeffrey Jensen welcomes Dr. Andrew Cohen to discuss all things podiatric medicine. Dr. Cohen, hailing from Saginaw, Michigan, shares his journey from Boston University to the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, and his experience in podiatric surgical training at Kern Hospital. He currently serves as the director of the podiatric medicine and surgical residency program at Central Michigan University. Tune in to learn more about Dr. Cohen's career and his unique residency program in Saginaw. Dr. Cohen and Dr. Jensen discuss the definition of success and highlight the significance of finding fulfillment and satisfaction in one's work. They suggest that success is not solely measured by external factors such as wealth or status, but rather by the level of enjoyment and fulfillment derived from one's work. Additionally, they mention having someone to share their success with, implying the importance of interpersonal relationships and support systems in achieving success. This perspective on success aligns with the idea that true happiness and fulfillment come from pursuing one's passions and finding meaning in their work. They encourage students to prioritize their interests and cultivate strong relationships and connections. Dr. Cohen suggests that the profession needs to make a better effort to expose potential students to podiatry at an earlier stage, even before college or postgraduate studies. He believes that waiting until college or postgraduate studies is too late. Dr. Cohen points out that many college students may not even know how to get to medical school or podiatry school, what classes they need to take, or what is important for their future careers in podiatry. Dr. Cohen emphasizes that it is not solely the responsibility of organizations like AACPM or APMA to address this issue. He believes that every podiatrist has a responsibility to be an ambassador for the profession and actively engage with students in high school and the early stages of college. He suggests that podiatrists should educate students about the path to medical or podiatry school, the importance of certain classes, and the opportunities available in the field. Dr. Cohen believes that this grassroots effort from podiatrists themselves can help excel in student recruitment. https://www.cmich.edu/academics/colleges/college-of-medicine/education/residency/podiatric-medicine-surgery https://aacpm.org/ Dean's Chat Website Dean's Chat Episodes Dean's Chat Blog Why Podiatric Medicine? Recently, we released a discussion titled, "Things That Integral Has Not Done Well," looking at a number of missteps the integral community and leadership has made, and at some of its most controversial associations with spiritual figures. Among the figures discussed was Andrew Cohen, and he joins us today to respond to that video, to offer some counter critiques, and to discuss possible things both he and the integral community can do going forward to correct for those mistakes and to open possible ways forward for greater transformation and integral flourishing. Andrew Cohen is an American-born, internationally known spiritual teacher and writer, and the founder of Evolutionary Enlightenment. He has been teaching meditation for over three decades, and created the magazine, What is Enlightenment?, one of the most successful publications ever in its genre. His teaching work grapples with the challenges of bringing the revelation of enlightenment to a contemporary Western audience, integrating postmodern cultural and scientific understanding with an original and sophisticated non-dual philosophy. After his organization, EnlightenNext, dissolved in 2013, he went on sabbatical for several years, but now has returned to teaching and is leading an online spiritual community called Manifest Nirvana.
