After the Deluge is a music podcast about songwriting, albums, and whatnot hosted by Justin Cox, a KDRT friend. I replay most of this podcast in this week's Listening Lyrics. Seasons about Bright Eyes, Jackson Browne, and Against Me! are in this feed, plus other interviews. We talk about my failed attempt to interview poets in the “late 1900s,” open mic nights, recording live and not overthinking it, interviewing locals > interviewing pros, KDRT, Rita Hosking, don't be lame just make stuff, biking across Holland, Jackson Browne (ding ding), The Lovin' Spoonful, Bright Eyes' “We are Nowhere and it's Now,” Paul Simon's “Graceland,” Pieter reads a poem, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan's “Tempest,” Herb Alpert, The Avett Brothers, and: what was the best five-year stretch of your life?
Randy Walsh returns to the show today, after his initial appearance last year, when he came on to discuss his book series The Apollo Moon Missions: Hiding A Hoax in Plain Sight. Randy is joined by a long time critic of his work, Justin Cox. Justin is an engineer and amateur astronomer, who doesn't think the case for faked Moon landings adds up. Find Randy's books here Follow Randy's work on YouTube
On day two of Cannes Lions, WARC's Alex Brownsell speaks with e.l.f Beauty CMO Kory Marchisotto and Dr Marcus Collins about why brand isn't dead, Adam Morgan from eatbigfish makes the case against dull and beige ads, and MSQ's Justin Cox shares new research on the power of rituals.
This one's not like the others. It's four pals in a room doing an Against Me! song draft while drinking Rainiers and eating junk. This week on Flightless Bird David Farrier investigates the incredibly American pastime of storm chasing. There are about 1200 tornados in America each year - for some, they are a source of fear and worry, but for others, they are a challenge to be bested. David travels to tornado alley, visiting Oklahoma in search of answers. There he meets storm chasers Stephanie & Justin Cox (@oklahoma_weather_couple) who talk about falling in love while chasing storms and their shared obsession with finding the next big Twister. David reads that the nearby town of Cole has recently been hit by a tornado (two, in fact) so heads off to investigate, meeting the resilient people there who talk about what it's like to be hit by a twister. Along the way Farrier talks to storm chaser Jennifer Brindley (faceofastorm.com), and her veteran storm chasing partner Skip Talbot (www.skip.cc), who timed the birth of his children around his storm chasing sensibilities! Justin Cox is a lifelong skateboarder, dedicated Muay Thai participant, trainer and coach. This week, Justin and I sit down for an in-person conversation about his wild life so far. Justin shares openly about his early days growing up in western Sydney, finding his love for skateboarding in the 80s, searching out backyard pools, Muay Thai fights, losing his way with heroin addiction and participation in criminal activity to support his habit, serving time, getting clean in jail, how skateboarding gave him hope, his deep love and appreciation for the art of Muay Thai, finding fulfilment in teaching and training others, his faith, Sydney skate scene history, the mentorship he found in John Finlay, Fairfield days, the three-headed snake, and much much more. Justin's story is compelling to say the least, and a powerful reminder that adversity can always be overcome by maintaining hope, and working hard to improve yourself. Justin Cox is a brilliant musician, songwriter, and former youth student of mine. The band he is in, Fireflight, performed for student ministries in our area churches and later would become a worldwide name in the music industry. He volunteered in our student ministry program, went on mission trips, and many of our other student retreats. All of this after he graduated from college. His story keeps going on but now, instead of Florida, he resides in the state of Michigan with his wife and 2 children… with another on the way! His parents were educators and his older brother is brilliant in his own right. Justin became a believer in Jesus Christ at a young age and was consistent in our student ministry. He was so much fun and relatable with his peers that when it was announced that he was valedictorian of his high school, people were shocked! Students rushed to the school office demanding an explanation as to how that could possibly be, because surely this funny guy could not be as smart as them…but he was! Justin is a genius when it comes to his family, music, ministry, technology, and his love for Jesus Christ. This interview will inspire you to go farther and longer to change the generations present and to come. Follow us, write us, and let us know if we are giving you what you need to run the race in ministry and personal spiritual growth! In addition to the terrible loss of lives, the tragic lines of refugees and brutal war crimes, Russia's invasion of Ukraine is upending the auto industry. Automakers and suppliers felt the impact immediately, and the long term implications could take years to resolve. Joe McCabe, the CEO of AutoForecast Solutions, and Justin Cox, the director of Global Production at LMC Automotive, go through the details of what we're likely to see.
