"Art—alongside diet, sleep, exercise, and nature, is the forgotten fifth pillar of health." —Daisy Fancourt, author Art Cure: How the Arts Save Lives Pleasure reading – mandatory. Listening to your favorite music – a have-to, not a want. Dancing – required participation. Viewing something of beauty – a daily must-stop and do. Each of these and so many more examples of the various forms of art that we may enjoy, often are presented as discretionary, or if we have time, or if we have money. But the truth is, just as professor of psychobiology and epidemiology at University College London Daisy Fancourt writes, we would be best advised to view them as necessities for living well. In Art Cure, Fancourt writes to underscore how important the arts are, and reveals how varied and different forms of art can be. We're talking about how they improve our health, something we seem to be obsessed with as a culture, but as a culture often overlook the most enjoyable forms of becoming and maintaining good health. In today's episode, we'll explore what the arts consist of so you can find your choice of art, the many health and life benefits, and explore in detail how you can incorporate art daily into your life. Let's get started. Find the Show Notes for today's episode on The Simply Luxurious Life blog - https://thesimplyluxuriouslife.com/podcast421

Most couples do not walk into IVF lightly. By the time you reach a cycle, you have likely changed your diet, added supplements, tried acupuncture, adjusted your lifestyle, and done everything you were told might help. And yet, stimulation begins, and the outcome feels underwhelming. Here's the biological reality: egg and sperm development are influenced during the 90 days before a cycle ever starts. Follicles recruited at stimulation were already developing months earlier. During that window, metabolic signaling, inflammatory load, hormonal communication, and stress physiology quietly set the ceiling for response. When outcomes disappoint, protocols are often adjusted. Doses increase. Supplements stack. Timelines shorten. But stimulation does not create egg quality. It recruits what has already been developing. In this episode, we clarify the difference between preparing for IVF and auditing biological readiness so your next decision is informed, not reactive. In this episode, you'll learn: Why egg and sperm quality are shaped months before retrieval How metabolic instability and inflammation influence follicle recruitment Why adding support without removing interference often changes very little The difference between execution and systems readiness How a functional systems lens protects time, energy, and future cycles I'm Sarah Clark, founder of Fab Fertile and host of Get Pregnant Naturally. For over a decade, my team and I have reviewed hundreds of low AMH and failed IVF cases using functional testing alongside conventional fertility care. We specialize in helping couples identify the physiological patterns driving poor outcomes so decisions are grounded in interpretation, not guesswork. If you've been moving from cycle to cycle without a clear way to evaluate what's actually been addressed, I created a free resource called the Embryo Audit Checklist. It helps you organize past cycles and labs so you can see what's been looked at and what may not have been considered yet. Access it here.

Dr. Sunil Gupta shared key insights for diabetes patients. Diabetes affects not just the pancreas but blood vessels throughout the body, with the liver being particularly vulnerable. Hyperinsulinemia (excess insulin) and long-term high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and high triglycerides can lead to fatty liver, which may progress to fibrosis or cirrhosis of liver. Dr. Gupta emphasized that human insulin is safe and effective, while insulin analogs (ultra-fast and ultra-long) are more physiologically aligned with the body's needs. Doses should be adjusted based on weight. Every person with diabetes should have a glucometer, as frequent monitoring helps control sugar levels and adjust doses. Diet and lifestyle play a crucial role. Limit sugar, jaggery, sweets, and honey, and prefer brown rice for its lower glycemic index. Exercise, weight management, and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol are essential. Foot care, eye check-ups, and avoiding alcohol, smoking, and tobacco are vital. For children with Type 1 diabetes, parent training, workshops, and insulin learning programs ensure safe management and prevent complications. Listen to the recent CSIS Bipartisan Alliance for Global Health Security book launch of Fair Doses: An Insider's Story of the Pandemic and the Global Fight for Vaccine Equity by Seth Berkley. As the gravity and magnitude of the Covid-19 pandemic became apparent in the first half of 2020, how did the vision for a mechanism to ensure equitable access to new vaccines come together and what role did organizations including Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; the Center for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI); and the World Health Organization (WHO) play in enabling the COVAX Facility to distribute nearly two billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to people in 146 countries, the majority of which were low-income countries, by the end of 2022? This event featured conversation between Katherine Bliss, Senior Fellow and Director of Immunizations and Health Systems Resilience, CSIS Global Health Policy Center, and Dr. Seth Berkley, author of Fair Doses and CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, from 2011 to 2023 regarding the challenges of vaccine equity and the lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic that can inform preparations for inevitable future health crises. This event is made possible through the generous support of the Gates Foundation.

In this episode Ben Plumley catches up with Dr. Seth Berkley, founder of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, former CEO of GAVI and amongst other responsibilities, now a senior advisor at Brown University's School of Public Health's Pandemic Center. Seth has recently published a new book “Fair Doses: An Insider's Story of the Pandemic and the Global Fight for Vaccine Equity” and he and Ben discuss the book's topics of vaccine equity, misinformation, and the rapid innovations in vaccine development, particularly the success and future potential of mRNA vaccines. Dr. Berkley highlights the challenges posed by misinformation and the political landscape, as well as the importance of global collaboration in addressing pandemics. They also explore his defining role in Covax's efforts to distribute COVID vaccines, the need for local manufacturing, and the impacts of nationalistic policies on global health. Dr. Berkley stresses the critical role of ongoing innovation and funding in preparing for future health crises and ensuring equitable access to health technologies. And he pulls no punches on the current US administration's failures in supporting global health research and partnerships. https://www.ucpress.edu/books/fair-doses/hardcover 00:00 Introduction and Guest Introduction 01:05 Current State of Misinformation and Disinformation 03:56 Challenges in Public Health Communication 09:19 Reflections on COVID-19 and Vaccine Equity 12:44 Global Health and Future Pandemics 16:41 Vaccine Nationalism and Local Manufacturing 23:38 Preparedness for Future Health Threats 31:01 The Future of Clinical Research and Innovation 36:03 Seth Berkeley's Current Work and Future Plans 38:13 Conclusion and Closing Remarks Join the Conversation! We've been taught that “the dose makes the poison.” But what if that's no longer true? In this episode of Practical Nontoxic Living™, Sophia Ruan Gushée unpacks how low doses of toxic chemicals—like PFAS, endocrine disruptors, and heavy metals—can create powerful biological effects, especially during critical stages of life. You'll hear why the Endocrine Society warns that there may be no safe dose for certain hormone-disrupting chemicals, and how these exposures can interact like a “toxic cocktail” to amplify harm. Most importantly, Sophia offers simple, practical steps to reduce your exposure at home—because if small doses can harm, small changes can heal. Plus, stay tuned for next week's episode introducing Sophia's Household Repeat Offenders™ framework—a commonsense way to simplify detoxing your home and avoid dozens of toxic exposures at once.

Today's guest and I discuss the nuance of relationships and spaces where love and harm coexist. Lauren Smallcomb is a certified Mind-Body Practitioner whose journey as a healer began at 20 when she became a registered nurse, dedicating a decade to caring for patients in the ER. She later expanded her expertise to become a birth doula and, eventually, a nutritional therapist. In 2020, after making the difficult decision to walk away from a dysfunctional family system, Lauren embarked on a transformative process of rebuilding her mind and body through brain retraining and trauma healing. This journey inspired her to become a certified Mind-Body Practitioner. Her newfound sense of empowerment prompted Lauren and her therapist husband to establish Flourish Therapy, with the intention of helping others heal and thrive after childhood trauma. Born and raised in upstate New York, they now make their home in Northern Thailand with their children, two dogs, and a cat. Golden Child is available on Amazon and at flourishtherpy.co. You can get Lauren's "101+ Doses of Courage" on their site as well. Follow Lauren on Instagram and Facebook @flourish_therapy.
