What happens if you take two humans, both with some sort of calling to catalyze change, sit them down together during the Lion's Gate Portal while spiders spin webs overhead, and then release that recording into the world on a Full Moon in Pisces??? A helluva magical, fiery, and loving conversation. Pull up your chair, your log, your rock; get your tea, your hot cocoa, your popcorn - whatever you need to get comfortable because joining me around the fire today is Katharine (Kat) Hargreaves: “the woman in the boat who meets others on the threshold,” a shamanic practitioner, ceremonial guide, and initiated medicine womxn who provides spiritual mentorship, apprenticeship programs, and psychedelic integration support for those on the healing path. And when it comes to many of the big questions we face on spiritual journeys, within the plant medicine world, as soulful entrepreneurs, or as humans in ‘white' bodies aiming to ‘do better'… we don't hold back. You'll hear our thoughts on things like: finding friends and relationships with the wild ones, our non-human kin; tending the earth means tending the body; definitions of ‘medicine' beyond something we put in our bodies; humans are not a scourge, nor are they supreme; Kate's shift from being in service to the wounds to being in service to the old ways; Kat's experience learning to hold her own medicine and the medicine of “you're not ready yet”; what plants can offer us, as teachers in their own right; colonialism, ‘white' culture, and being rootless; ritual, divination, and accessing the wider web of wisdom; unlearning greed and power-over hierarchies to find initiations and integrations as natural gatekeepers; taking more responsibility (in healthy ways) the challenges and process of ‘finding your medicine' and living your purpose… and so much more. This conversation, while potent for any listener who loves complexity and spirituality, will probably feel especially powerful for you if you spend a lot of time in spiritual and wellness spaces or consider yourself a healer, yoga teacher, herbalist or server of plant medicines, etc; and especially if you hold those sacred roles while navigating the world within a ‘white' body and grappling with questions of doing it the honorable and ‘right' way. If so, or even if you're called for another reason, let yourself be moved into place around this fire. I think you'll find something awakening, grounding, challenging and affirming here. On this episode, Kristin hosts Jessica Lorren and Kat Braman from Lorren and Braman who are luxury wedding photographers and the creators of REED which was born out of a longing to reclaim creativity by evoking, embracing, and developing the artist within. Jessica and Kat share about the beginning stages of their business as photographers and how becoming a mother shaped and changed that. We dig into some interesting topics like the bullshit of balance, surprising feelings once you reach a certain goal, burn out, the major role of community, and so much more. The two photographers also share more about the details of REED and how you can become involved and connected. More about Jessica and Kat and their Reed program: Reed is our solution to a common but often-overlooked problem from which many creatives suffer. We come into this world as artists, full of inspiration and ideas with space and capacity to create freely. As time goes on we experience challenges, seasons of life change, and demands only increase. The artist we once were is asked to step aside and called upon only when needed. Neglected and uninspired, she has little to draw on when summoned and thus our connection with her diminishes. Complacency replaces creativity and burn-out ensues but her spark within us can never fully extinguish. Reed was born out of a longing to reclaim creativity by evoking, embracing and developing the artist within. Our desire is to offer a place of hope, healing and harmony for inspiration to flourish and our inner artist to thrive. We hope you'll join us. In this episode, Kat shares her story about how a personal tragedy turned by losing her brother by suicide, which lead to her life's mission, as she steps into her purpose and fights for an end to gun crime in the US.Kat was born in Ocean City, New Jersey, and has lived briefly in West Germany as well as various parts of the United States. Her first loves were singing and drawing, and she modeled briefly in her late teens and early twenties. Unable to complete her degree in Fine Arts, she worked in many assistant roles over a span of 25 years until she became unemployed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With her own #MeToo story and as a suicide and gun violence survivor (her brother Ryan was lost to suicide by gun in 2009), Kat founded Katseye Innovative LLC in 2020 to give back to the world through her music, writing, and art. While helping her son Aidan who is on the Autism Spectrum navigate distance learning, Kat used her time in isolation to tap into her creative gifts of singing and songwriting and released “Broken Moon” and its video in November of 2020. Fifty percent of net proceeds go to organizations working to stop gun violence and raise awareness for better mental health and suicide prevention. Kat is currently illustrating a children’s book she authored with plans for release through Carnelian Moon Publishing in 2021. This project’s philanthropic focus will be on autism. She continues to work on her singing, songwriting, and activism and resides in Minnetonka, Minnesota with her amazing son Aidan and Garfield, their lovable, mischievous feline companion. Her Fearless Hustle | Stories from Entrepreneurial Women on Overcoming Self-sabotage
Kat Sloan Feeney empowers women through nutrition & mindset. She is a nutritionist, writer, speaker, and spends most of her free time in the mountains. Her gift is helping women develop a positive relationship with food and their body: Helping you fuel your body and feel absolutely gorgeous, and without fad diets, juice cleanses, calorie counting, or feeling restricted. After recovering from an eating disorder in her 20’s she realized so many women of all sizes struggled with their body image. It didn't seem to matter what they'd accomplished, how smart, caring, loving they were - they struggled. She’s on a mission to help women see the beauty in themselves, and conquer their fear of food.
