Nigel's guest today is Nikk Mager. Nikk is a singer and songwriter who is known to many these days as one quarter of The Fizz, the Eurovision-winning band formerly known as Bucks Fizz. He is also known as a former member of boyband Phixx, who rose from the ashes of the TV show Popstars: The Rivals in the early noughties. I always get excited to speak with a guest who can fill in some of the blanks in my knowledge about food insecurity for Celiacs in Canada. I work with Celiac Canada to help educate foodbanks to be able to serve our community better. Dr. Diana Mager and her team at the University of Alberta have, in the past, taken a great interest in the nutritional needs of celiac children in Canada (Podcast Episode 292 - https://bit.ly/Ep292CeliacKidsFoodGuide). More recently Dr. Mager and her team have completed a cross-Canada survey of families to determine the food insecurity issues in families with celiac children. Her article was recently published in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and even made the front cover! De groei van de wereldeconomie gaat dit jaar vertragen, zegt macro-econoom Edin Mujagic. 'Maar de geschiedenis leert ons dat zulke periodes kraamkamers zijn voor betere tijden. Er is geen enkele reden waarom dat nu anders zou zijn.' Volgens de Wereldbank gaat de economie van de wereld in 2024 vertragen vergeleken met vorig jaar. Op zich niet zo heel schokkend, maar het is al wel het derde opeenvolgende jaar waarin de groei lager uitkomt. Namelijk op iets meer dan 2 procent. Dat is echt heel mager als cijfer voor de hele wereld. De vertraging zie je eigenlijk bijna overal waar je kijkt. Van Europa tot Azië en Noord-Amerika. Overal wordt het minder. Kleine plusjes zijn er in het Midden-Oosten, maar gezien de situatie daar is het ook maar de vraag of dat zo blijft.
