What's something that you wish someone had told you before having children? From challenges with breast feeding, to lack of sleep, to postpartum body insecurities, there are probably so many things that you felt unprepared for after giving birth. What's normal? What's not normal? It's hard to know, especially when you have nothing to compare it to. We hear from doctors that everything looks good, and to just give it time, but that's not enough. There is such a lack of support for moms in the United States, and our system is broken. We're set up to struggle and it doesn't have to be this way.  Today I have Dr. Lara Morgan Lee on the podcast, and we're talking all about these issues. Lara Morgan Lee, MD is a board-certified Sports Medicine Physician and former professional team doctor who after her own pregnancy and postpartum journey realized traditional medical care was simply put, failing mothers. Leveraging her career experience with athletes she turned her focus to providing the education and empowerment one needs from expecting to years after baby. The vision is clear: bridge the gap to elevate the traditional way medicine is delivered for mothers the same way we care for athletes.  In this episode we discuss: Dr. Morgan's journey working with mothers. The link between athletes and mothers. Being a martyr and what that looks like in motherhood. The importance of educating mothers on what's “normal” during pregnancy, birth, and after having children. Changing the broken healthcare system by supporting mothers in innovative ways. This is so far my the most energetic podcast of 2019. I interviewed Lara Morgan last year, and her motto is ‘only actions count’ - I love jumping into these ‘cold’ conversation and see how those go. And this one was just purely amazing.    At the end of the podcast I found out that Lara had actually written a book about her experience, something that I hadn’t been aware of. I now have a copy (thank you again) and her story of building a multi million business from scratch with hard work is utterly mind bobbling. For her success is all about choice and making money to create choice, wanting to be an example for her children.   As a sales and negotiation expert, she has a ton of drive to succeed. She lives by her high standards in business and private life, being very disciplined and an early riser, prioritising things recklessly. Her ambition is to live to 120 years of age, but she couldn’t master that or her ‘work-life-challenge’ without staying fit and having a supporting husband; plus she emphasises the need for a strong mind.    "Be more self-disciplined" is her advice at the end. Only action counts.    Projects she is involved in: Scentered - Restoring Lifestyle Balance Naturally https://scentered.me/ Dryrobe - the world’s warmest and most advanced change robe https://dryrobe.com/ Gate8 Luggage - avoid baggage check in https://www.gate8-luggage.co.uk/ Kitbrix - no fuss, just organised kit https://kitbrix.com/ Yogi Bare - Yoga accessories https://www.yogi-bare.co.uk/ Engage For Success - https://engageforsuccess.org/   Books she recommends are of course her own “More Balls than most” and “Lynda Gratton - The 100 Year Life” - more on my recommendations page.    This podcast is hosted by Volker Ballueder (Ballueder Partners) who also wrote a book on productivity and life improvement #BeBetter.

On paper, things have never looked better for female entrepreneurs. In fact, more than 11 million U.S. firms are now owned by women, employing nearly 9 million people and generating $1.7 trillion in sales, according to 2017 data from the National Association of Women Business Owners. But these numbers only tell part of the story. Women-owned firms are still in the minority, and the hurdles faced by women who have embraced entrepreneurship are vast and often very different than those experienced by their male counterparts. The guest on this episode has not only started one business and been successful but has started many businesses and while raising a family. Have you ever stayed in a fancy hotel and wondered how much they pay Aveda for those little bottles of shampoo? Special guest: Lara Morgan Lara is an active supporter of the EFS movement as a member of the Task Force. Lara began to develop the skills of an entrepreneur at an early age! Her parents lived and worked in Hong Kong, whilst she and her brother would travel halfway round the world to school in Scotland. Her independent childhood and her parents being wonderful ‘leaders by example' all attributed to her understanding of business today.   She finished school at the age of 18 fully expecting to attend university. However, that same year her father was declared bankrupt. As a result, she found herself borrowing her first business clothes from a mate of her mothers and went for an interview. At 18 she taught herself the art of sales, and by 21 she was managing a Yellow Pages sales team in 6 countries in the Gulf. In 1991, at the age of 23, she started her first business, Pacific Direct Ltd, which manufactured and sold brand licensed toiletries and amenities to the hotel industry.  Seventeen years later, she sold her majority share (99%) in 2008 for the sum of £20million. Since then, she spends quality time with her husband and three lively daughters. Lara is the Founder of CompanyShortcuts.com, a source of practical advice and frameworks to enable businesses leaders to achieve accelerated growth. She is seriously passionate about Leadership, Self and Employee Motivation (you might even remember her for celebrating achieving her first £1m profit by taking her staff on an all-expenses paid holiday to Barbados in 2005) and Business Growth; and she regularly talks about these and other specific topics based on her own experiences. They also consider how good businesses are built on the back of mistakes. Evan is joined in the studio by Matt Brittin, managing director of Google, UK and Ireland; Lara Morgan, founder of Pacific Direct and Company Shortcuts; Luke Johnson, serial entrepreneur and chairman of Risk Capital Partners.
