Hello Guys, Today's episode is a classic entrepreneurial tale of success. Entrepreneur details her journey from starting her hotel consumables business from scratch, landing a landmark client and eventually selling her 99% share of her 20 million pound business. We discuss the importance of sales, goal setting in business and really go in-depth into what made Lara successful. I loved this conversation and left with more motivation than ever!

This is so far my the most energetic podcast of 2019. I interviewed Lara Morgan last year, and her motto is ‘only actions count’ - I love jumping into these ‘cold’ conversation and see how those go. On paper, things have never looked better for female entrepreneurs. "Unconventional, but always efficient" growth specialist Lara Morgan talks with passion about how we can encourage the next generation of business leaders.

This podcast explores the health & fitness insights of a sports medicine Dr. from the Cleveland Clinic. The questions range from the challenges of being a female in a male dominant specialization of medicine to the common challenges she finds working with top-level athletes, including NBA Cleveland Cavaliers and the general population who want to be healthy and fit. Dr. Lara Morgan Oberle, MD is a staff member in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery, specializing in Primary Care Sports and Exercise Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville graduated summa cum laude and a medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Oberle is a member of the AMS for Sports Medicine, where she volunteers on the Communications committee, and also serves as a manuscript editor for the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.  She is the head team physician for Cleveland State University, as well as Independence High School.

When she was 23 years old, Lara Morgan set up a company called Pacific Direct that sold toiletries and amenities to hotels. After hitting annual revenues of 360k as a one man band, Lara employed a team and expanded the company to trade in 110 countries, before selling her majority stake in the business for £20m in 2008. In an intimate interview for the Business Lives podcast, Lara speaks candidly about her career, which began winning the Dorchester as her first client pitching in borrowed clothes, and took her to the Pyramids at 4am before a meeting in Cairo, yet also included what she describes as the “loneliest” years of her life. Since selling her stake in Pacific Direct, Morgan has become a respected investor, released two books, and competed as an elite triathlete – achieving 10th place at the World Championships in Beijing.

Turns out, there is a company called Pacific Direct that acts as a middleman between the hotel chain and the company supplying the shampoo. U.K.-based Pacific Direct was earning £3.3 million when founder Lara Morgan decided to sell. She got multiple offers for her company and ultimately sold it to a private equity group for £20 million. Lara Morgan shares her insights into the strengths you need for success and the skills that helped her build Pacific Direct form just £108 of sales the first year, to England’s 57th fastest growing company with over £4.5 million in sales a few years later.

Her parents lived and worked in Hong Kong, whilst she and her brother would travel halfway round the world to school in Scotland. Her independent childhood and her parents being wonderful ‘leaders by example' all attributed to her understanding of business today.   She finished school at the age of 18 fully expecting to attend university. However, that same year her father was declared bankrupt. As a result, she found herself borrowing her first business clothes from a mate of her mothers and went for an interview. At 18 she taught herself the art of sales, and by 21 she was managing a Yellow Pages sales team in 6 countries in the Gulf. In 1991, at the age of 23, she started her first business, Pacific Direct Ltd, which manufactured and sold brand licensed toiletries and amenities to the hotel industry.  Seventeen years later, she sold her majority share (99%) in 2008 for the sum of £20million. Since then, she spends quality time with her husband and three lively daughters.
